Greetings
I have officially flashed Amon Ra onto my 1.49 Bootload Eris. However, once the recovery menu appears, I gave no access to change the menu selection. Neither the volume buttons nor the trackball will change the highlighted menu item. As such, I can not select anything except restart. Any thoughts? I am sorry if this is a double post, I have had some trouble locating any information on this issue. Thanks!!
Its been a very bittersweet evening...
I think it is trackball issues. Test this out when you reboot.
I noticed my trackball doesn't go down anymore rendering Amon's Recovery useless.
Just got root a few minutes ago too lol.. FML

were you having trackball issues before ? (my phone has them) if so it makes it hard to use amon ....but it will usually work if I do not have the usb cord plugged in
I've searched but can't seem to come up with any other way to control the recovery without using the trackball..

Tried unplugging the USB and rebooting.. still can't get the trackball to go down.
I'm having the same trackball control issues. My trackball works fine once booted into "normal user" mode. Several reboots have not fixed the problem.
I've been searching to see if I can do everything from the adb recovery shell. All of the commands seem to be there (wipe, flash_image, etc) I just need to find the right usage of the scripts.
EDIT: I take that back, I AM having trackball issues in normal mode. I rarely use it.

Did that too... Its funny that we've gotten so far on this root, but now are stuck with a useless recovery image. I have rebooted several times, USB in and out, and all have resulted in the same end situation.
I am continuing to search it out, and will keep this posted on any ideas.
I know there have been some issues with alternate recovery images, but have there been any developments? (its something I have not been entirely following)
Edit: So this may be completely ridiculous, but I noticed when I leaned on the USB cable, the cursor moved down. If you continue to "jiggle" the cable a bit, it will move down. This is most certainly not a permanent fix, and most likely a sign of some damage but it got the job done. More detailed, I pulled the cable out a millimeter or two, and tilted it downward. With some practice, I could move it the three clicks down and initiate the root.
Additionally, I found this, but haven't tested it myself yet

Turn the phone off and keep trying to move the trackball it happend to me once. Also try plugging the cord in and move the cord end around. I'm sorry if this does help you but it worked for me. Gl
it may be limited (not sure, never used it)... but i believe you can install a custom ROM using this application:

Thanks but this won't work. Does any one know of anyway to push a root ROM through ADB while in recovery? There has to be a way to do this..
Ok, so I can load ROMS using Clockworks recovery using the Vol Up/Down to navigate.
I cleaned mine using a piece of paper and shaking it up and down on the paper.

Try this

i have the same issue as well but i use my USB cable to fix it. Try holding at different angles while scrolling until you find the right one. "I Believe" that the trackball issue is from moving the phone too much with the charger plugged in. Once i noticed while my phone is plugged in that it would go haywire i realized that had to be part of it.(from my experience at least)
I also have the trackball issue
I have found 2 work arounds: 1. Jiggle the usb cable.
2. Apply pressure to the left of the trackball, between it and the call button, with your left hand and use your right hand to move the trackball. In other words, pinch the phone in that spot (thumb between call button and trackball, fingers on the back of the phone).
Weird, but it works.

If you can get the trackball for even a little while, go through with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725047
That'll let you flash ROMs from fastboot.
I had the same problem. I jiggled the cord till it went to backup/restore then trackball worked when i was at my backup list. replacement phone will be here tomorrow so I'm returning this one to stock before i send it back. Not taking any chances

screw all this crap
flash the 2.1 ruu (will lose root and put phone back to factory) and take your phone back and get a new one
FREE
sometimes my trackball in amons recovery is sluggish or doesn;t move at all. If I wait a few seconds it'll eventually wake up and start working. boot into recovery again, wait a few seconds then see if it starts moving. Also i found having low battery didn't help things. Make sure your charged up!

Hello all. I'm new to the world of kaosfroyo, and different types of roms, etc. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to fix a couple of problems i'm having with my droid eris.
I traded an old blackberry for it. The gent i got it from said it is running kaosfroyo v31. I was playing around with it before activating it, and realized that when i try to use the camera, the phone turns itself off, then back on again. And when i dial *228 to try to activate it, i cant get the dial pad to come up to select my option.
I apologize if this is in the wrong area of the site, but i'm not as tech savvy as i'd like to be, but would appreciate any help and pointing in the right direction anybody could give me.
Thanks to all in advance. And I apologize again for my lack of knowledge.

to program the phone, hold down the menu button till the keyboard pops up hit the numeric key and press one, you probably need to update your rom
Thanks, I appreciate the help. How would i go about updating my Rom?
Search for how to flash a custom ROM. theunlockr.com has good info. You don't need to worry about rooting, so it should be easy.
First download the rom you want on your computer. Then plug the phone into the computer. Pull down the notification bar on the phone and press where it says usb connected. Mount the sdcard. You should now be able to open the sdcard on the computer. Move the zip file of the ROM to the sdcard. Not in a folder. Unmount the sdcard and wait till it says usb connected in the notification bar again. Unplug the phone from the computer. Next, turn off the phone. Then while holding the volume up button, press and hold power till the phone restarts. It will boot to recovery.
From there, wipe both data and dalvik by using the trackball. After that push the down volume button to return to the main menu. Then flashe zip from sdcard. Pick the new ROM and press the trackball. Wait till done and reboot phone.
Enjoy.

Whilst in download mode, my S2 makes a clicking sound!
Anybody else get this? Or am I going mad
Your not going mad, I've noticed it as well. It seems to happen when using an app like quickboot or CWM Manager to reboot into recovery/download. Using the extended power controls theres no clicking.

Yes, I think you are spot on! Used CWM Manager to get into download to flash a new fw, and heard the clicks. Used manual method to enter download mode to re-apply cf-root & didn't hear it.
Guess I can't phone in sick at work tomorrow now then due to dementia! lol
Cheers mate
i heard the same thing. i thought it's the static somewhere near the usb connector. was gonna send in for service until i saw this post. can we get rid of it somehow? it's very annoying
Yes even I hear the sound while booting to recovery mode from CWM Manager. But i think its nothing to panic since S2 has no moving parts like HDD. Its some static produced through speakers I guess...
Nope, not static! Just clicking. It's fine, nothing to worry about. It's just lots of little gnome workers wearing tap shoes having to change direction each time you decide to change ROM. Think little relays resetting - why should it be annoying? It's rather endearing to me! Like an old analogue power station...
the clicking sound is actually the camera shutter that's programmed to open at every boot; the sound is normal and nothing to worry about

Well, not sure if there are any other options for our phone, but issue one would be the fact that we don't have any physical buttons on our phone.

Turn on your phone, restart, or hot restart > as soon as you see boot animation hold down volume down button. Keep it held until you get a long vibrate. After the vibrate you can let go. You should be in safe mode then.
To get out of it you can hot restart.

I think he means on the face of the device. Like, the old HTC Hero has physical buttons for home, menu, etc and a trackball .

A WORD OF CAUTION TO ALL ...
I tried this when I was having trouble connecting to my SDcard via USB and it did work, BUT... for some reason, it completely wiped out all of my widgets and home screen shortcuts.
Maybe this is an isolated problem with my phone, but be aware of this possibility before you proceed.

Did you have that issue after you exited safe mode? I remember that after I exited safe mode on my thunderbolt everything returned to normal.
I booted into safe mode once by accident, same thing, everything on the home screens was almost like a factory default, rebooted and it was fine again, everything came back to normal... Pretty sure Safe Mode on the Rezound is just like in Windows, it essentially just skips a bunch of custom and non-essential startup configuration parameters.

All the widgets and shortcuts were gone after I rebooted into normal mode. The same thing happened once before but I was in the middle of trouble-shooting some issues so I dismissed it as a system glitch.
Hello,
About two months ago I factory resetted and fully recharged my Acer Liquid MT.
Didn't use it for quite a while, but recently I wanted to but apparently the battery was empty meanwhile.
Charged it for hours but it didn't go on anymore (tried most basic stuff: changing battery, reset button etc)
Didn't show 'any sign of life' however. No screen, no sound, nothing at all.
Yesterday I did hold the Power Button and both Volume Buttons for a few seconds and it quickly vibrated a few times + one (normal) vibrate afterwards.
I think it isn't completely bricked since it did vibrate.
However, how am I going to be able to get this thing working again?
Many thanks in advance!
PS: Rooted, no custom ROM.
Edit
Forgot to mention, but my PC doesn't detect the phone anymore when connected to USB ...
i'm sorry...
it sounds your phone is bricked... i don't know how u could fix it

There is a liquid metal forum on modaco.com, maybe you should look there. If it was working before, maybe it fell down once or got some hardware fault? 3 vibrations were SD download mode AFAIK

Also, what do you mean with 'device manager' exactly?

It needs good charging as the battery has drained completely and will take time , may be couple of days. If it doesn't fix the problem then take it to a mobile shop and ask them to power charge it. It will fix the problem. I had the same issue with this phone...
I hope it helps...

Or just hit the Windows Key (next to Alt by the Spacebar) + the letter R together then type : devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
When the Device Manager is open and you plug in the device, you should see it blink out for a sec and reload and show you the device - probably will see a yellow warning symbol next to it - if so that means the PC sees it, just not loading the correct driver.
Hi everyone...
Some days ago, i was trying, OmniROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544790). I follow all the steps and even get the superSU app going. One night, y saw how my nightly got updated, and in the morning, start to reboot randomly. If I push the power botton sometimes, doesn´t appear the blockscreen but the screen with the reboot option and turn off appear...
I put my cellphone back to stock with root using SuperOneClick from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081. Then, I format my sd card and internal storage...The problem persist...
I would like that someone help me, I'm tryin everything and didn't solve it...
Based on your description, it sounds like a hardware issue -more specifically, a failing power button.
I have read that some users were able to fix the issue by disassembling the phone and spraying out the switch with contact cleaner, and I have read that others had the power switch replaced altogether.
Hopefully others will chime-in with their thoughts.
