Hello all. I'm new to the world of kaosfroyo, and different types of roms, etc. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to fix a couple of problems i'm having with my droid eris.
I traded an old blackberry for it. The gent i got it from said it is running kaosfroyo v31. I was playing around with it before activating it, and realized that when i try to use the camera, the phone turns itself off, then back on again. And when i dial *228 to try to activate it, i cant get the dial pad to come up to select my option.
I apologize if this is in the wrong area of the site, but i'm not as tech savvy as i'd like to be, but would appreciate any help and pointing in the right direction anybody could give me.
Thanks to all in advance. And I apologize again for my lack of knowledge.

to program the phone, hold down the menu button till the keyboard pops up hit the numeric key and press one, you probably need to update your rom
Thanks, I appreciate the help. How would i go about updating my Rom?
Search for how to flash a custom ROM. theunlockr.com has good info. You don't need to worry about rooting, so it should be easy.
First download the rom you want on your computer. Then plug the phone into the computer. Pull down the notification bar on the phone and press where it says usb connected. Mount the sdcard. You should now be able to open the sdcard on the computer. Move the zip file of the ROM to the sdcard. Not in a folder. Unmount the sdcard and wait till it says usb connected in the notification bar again. Unplug the phone from the computer. Next, turn off the phone. Then while holding the volume up button, press and hold power till the phone restarts. It will boot to recovery.
From there, wipe both data and dalvik by using the trackball. After that push the down volume button to return to the main menu. Then flashe zip from sdcard. Pick the new ROM and press the trackball. Wait till done and reboot phone.
Enjoy.

Well i need some get. this is not my 1st PPC since i have had thr 6700, titan and not the touch pro but i guess i dont know what im doing...
so i downloaded a few cabs, nothing big. i dont mess with a lot. got some themes, lumos, touch response etc.
i the problems started when i downloaded my last theme but im not 100 % sure that was what caused the problem. i did use advance config and change some things but nothing major, just some setting on the program that said "advised"
well, i had problems and i wanted to delete everything and start over but i couldnt delete a theme.
to make a story short, i was at the mall today and stopped by the sprint store to see if the tech could help me...
some how files got delete and from what i was told the tech couldnt even do a master reset!!! she couldnt figure it out... the phone works but its missing some things.
can i fix this? download a custom ROM? and use that?
i wouldnt think advance config can delete something, or a theme.... i dont know what i did but something happened.
any help would be great
thanks
hold power, down volume and ok button all while pushing the reset button. release the reset button but continue to hold the other three untill the phone reboots into the hard reset menu. hit the volume up button and tada bobs your uncle. if that doesnt work selet clear memory in the settings menu and follow the prompts
the sprint tech couldnt get it to work. she tired a master reset and nothing. they said files where missing.
she has the same phone and tired a lot of things
i dont get how i can erase files like this, i didnt mess with any files... the only thing i have done is download simple cabs
i did use advance config but once again i didnt delete anything. just selected what it said was best.
If I'm hearing you correctly you need to do a Hard Reset....
To do so there are two ways:
First way:
While phone is OFF, press volume down, cener d-pad, and power button until message comes on. Press volume up to complete.
Second way:
While phone is on, press volume down, center d-pad, and stylus-reset until message comes on
it wont do a hard reset
i have done it, sometimes it beeps... i get the htc logo and thats about it. i never get a message or anything, it just goes black like a soft reset
the only diff is that it wont show the sprint logo like when i have done a soft reset... it shows the htc logo
now im worried about downloading cabs. i never had this problem. and i didnt delete anything from the phone. so i dont know who those important files they say are missing got deleted.
the guy at the sprint store on base dialed ##786# and hit the call button, he says that will do a reset or something... and it wouldnt work
nothing else? no one else has a idea of what happened
this is my 3rd ppc and this is a 1st, it would be nice to know what could have cause this problem so i dont do it again.
you guys are no help
Have you tried flashing the ROM over on it? Will it connect to the computer via Activesync?

LMAO!! Now that's funny. The guy at the sprint store doesn't have a clue.
If you do ##786# on the Sprint phone, it should bring up a EPST screen. Which when you press menu, there is an option to reset it, however I doubt that does anything to solve your problem.
I would suggest, trying to flash the ROM back on the phone (if you haven't tried that already)
i have never connected the phone using activesync... i just got the phone like 2 weeks ago ( replaced my mogul)
i was thinking about trying that but havent done it for 2 reasons
1. i have never flashed a ROM
2. im getting a new TP, it has been ordered... if i get to keep the one i have now i will try to flash but i dont want to try it if i have to give up the phone. only to have to change it back
i do want to find out why this happened. like i said, i like to add themes and other programs i like but im worried about messing my new one and then ill be out of luck.
Greetings
I have officially flashed Amon Ra onto my 1.49 Bootload Eris. However, once the recovery menu appears, I gave no access to change the menu selection. Neither the volume buttons nor the trackball will change the highlighted menu item. As such, I can not select anything except restart. Any thoughts? I am sorry if this is a double post, I have had some trouble locating any information on this issue. Thanks!!
Its been a very bittersweet evening...
I think it is trackball issues. Test this out when you reboot.
I noticed my trackball doesn't go down anymore rendering Amon's Recovery useless.
Just got root a few minutes ago too lol.. FML

were you having trackball issues before ? (my phone has them) if so it makes it hard to use amon ....but it will usually work if I do not have the usb cord plugged in
I've searched but can't seem to come up with any other way to control the recovery without using the trackball..

Tried unplugging the USB and rebooting.. still can't get the trackball to go down.
I'm having the same trackball control issues. My trackball works fine once booted into "normal user" mode. Several reboots have not fixed the problem.
I've been searching to see if I can do everything from the adb recovery shell. All of the commands seem to be there (wipe, flash_image, etc) I just need to find the right usage of the scripts.
EDIT: I take that back, I AM having trackball issues in normal mode. I rarely use it.

Did that too... Its funny that we've gotten so far on this root, but now are stuck with a useless recovery image. I have rebooted several times, USB in and out, and all have resulted in the same end situation.
I am continuing to search it out, and will keep this posted on any ideas.
I know there have been some issues with alternate recovery images, but have there been any developments? (its something I have not been entirely following)
Edit: So this may be completely ridiculous, but I noticed when I leaned on the USB cable, the cursor moved down. If you continue to "jiggle" the cable a bit, it will move down. This is most certainly not a permanent fix, and most likely a sign of some damage but it got the job done. More detailed, I pulled the cable out a millimeter or two, and tilted it downward. With some practice, I could move it the three clicks down and initiate the root.
Additionally, I found this, but haven't tested it myself yet
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=716681&highlight=trackball
Turn the phone off and keep trying to move the trackball it happend to me once. Also try plugging the cord in and move the cord end around. I'm sorry if this does help you but it worked for me. Gl
it may be limited (not sure, never used it)... but i believe you can install a custom ROM using this application:

Thanks but this won't work. Does any one know of anyway to push a root ROM through ADB while in recovery? There has to be a way to do this..
Ok, so I can load ROMS using Clockworks recovery using the Vol Up/Down to navigate.
I cleaned mine using a piece of paper and shaking it up and down on the paper.

Dont use clockwork.
Clockwork=brick.
Its happened to a couple people here including myself.
Try this

i have the same issue as well but i use my USB cable to fix it. Try holding at different angles while scrolling until you find the right one. "I Believe" that the trackball issue is from moving the phone too much with the charger plugged in. Once i noticed while my phone is plugged in that it would go haywire i realized that had to be part of it.(from my experience at least)
I also have the trackball issue
I have found 2 work arounds: 1. Jiggle the usb cable.
2. Apply pressure to the left of the trackball, between it and the call button, with your left hand and use your right hand to move the trackball. In other words, pinch the phone in that spot (thumb between call button and trackball, fingers on the back of the phone).
Weird, but it works.

If you can get the trackball for even a little while, go through with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725047
That'll let you flash ROMs from fastboot.
I had the same problem. I jiggled the cord till it went to backup/restore then trackball worked when i was at my backup list. replacement phone will be here tomorrow so I'm returning this one to stock before i send it back. Not taking any chances

screw all this crap
flash the 2.1 ruu (will lose root and put phone back to factory) and take your phone back and get a new one
FREE
sometimes my trackball in amons recovery is sluggish or doesn;t move at all. If I wait a few seconds it'll eventually wake up and start working. boot into recovery again, wait a few seconds then see if it starts moving. Also i found having low battery didn't help things. Make sure your charged up!
I was Odining back to stock and then it failed. I turned my phone off then back on and it goes to This sign where is shows Phone caution sign then computer. Way to fix it?
Is this the Download Mode? If it is, I suggest Odining (if that's a word) eugene's Does Not Brick 2.2 (re-partition), and then load up JFD again. That's gotten me out of many a jam.
Dont worry, search in general for soft brick.

It wont show in odin because you are not in download mode, get into download mode, if you cannot figure it out SEARCH or post in the proper thread, its not that hard to undo where you are at.
Your phone isn't bricked...the first time that I used Odin I got the same error message after disconnecting my phone mid-download.
All you have to do start over from step one and eventually you will get back into download. Give time time, be patient.
No i do know how to get into download mode. I'v been in it before, I know i don't have a defected locked Vibrant. My phone will not get into it though. I hold the buttons for almost a minute. I tired so many ways. I searched. But still, Nothing.
post your Skype ID and I will help you
I don't have skype, Baha. Umm, I'll make one?

So, I'm not getting anywhere.
I'm going to call T-Mobile in a bit, And beg for them to send me a new one.
Hello.
I have WB v6.0 2.3.3 ROM, stock kernel.
My three hardware buttons on the bottom of the device have stopped working. Volume, camera, power buttons still work fine.
- Can't use xRecovery, as SELECT button doesn't work.
- Can't use SEUS or flashtool, as it doesn't register me pressing BACK.
- Can't send for repair, as it's rooted obviously.
Was thinking of using the in-built 'reset factory settings' etc option. No idea if this even works.
Any ideas? Halp plz.
do the still feel proper when pressing them? maybe something moved in there, try disassembling it and assemble it back,
this guy has nice disassembly walkthroughs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypmgeoaDURQ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhUa7R2KOTc
good luck
Yah, buttons feel the same as always. I had a look at video, but I'm not sure if there's a connector or something for the buttons.
If need be, I'll just send it back under warranty. But would be good to get back to stock haha.
Yeah, (if you decide to) when you disassemble it, try to get them out and put them back in, maybe it will work, sometimes disassembeling just magically resolves the issue.
If not send it back under warranty although idk how will that work since it's rooted and all,
I hope someone else has a way to solve it,
good luck
(maybe a thx if it works )

Cheers for replies. I don't really want to take it apart, but it's on the list..
Trying ADB commands now. Newbie to it, so if anyone can point me in the right direction, would be good.
Attempting to use ADB commands with xRecovery 0.3-release. (as SELECT button doesn't work)
Hi everyone...
Some days ago, i was trying, OmniROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544790). I follow all the steps and even get the superSU app going. One night, y saw how my nightly got updated, and in the morning, start to reboot randomly. If I push the power botton sometimes, doesn´t appear the blockscreen but the screen with the reboot option and turn off appear...
I put my cellphone back to stock with root using SuperOneClick from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081. Then, I format my sd card and internal storage...The problem persist...
I would like that someone help me, I'm tryin everything and didn't solve it...
Based on your description, it sounds like a hardware issue -more specifically, a failing power button.
I have read that some users were able to fix the issue by disassembling the phone and spraying out the switch with contact cleaner, and I have read that others had the power switch replaced altogether.
Hopefully others will chime-in with their thoughts.
