Hello.
I have WB v6.0 2.3.3 ROM, stock kernel.
My three hardware buttons on the bottom of the device have stopped working. Volume, camera, power buttons still work fine.
- Can't use xRecovery, as SELECT button doesn't work.
- Can't use SEUS or flashtool, as it doesn't register me pressing BACK.
- Can't send for repair, as it's rooted obviously.
Was thinking of using the in-built 'reset factory settings' etc option. No idea if this even works.
Any ideas? Halp plz.
do the still feel proper when pressing them? maybe something moved in there, try disassembling it and assemble it back,
this guy has nice disassembly walkthroughs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypmgeoaDURQ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhUa7R2KOTc
good luck
Yah, buttons feel the same as always. I had a look at video, but I'm not sure if there's a connector or something for the buttons.
If need be, I'll just send it back under warranty. But would be good to get back to stock haha.
Yeah, (if you decide to) when you disassemble it, try to get them out and put them back in, maybe it will work, sometimes disassembeling just magically resolves the issue.
If not send it back under warranty although idk how will that work since it's rooted and all,
I hope someone else has a way to solve it,
good luck
(maybe a thx if it works )

Cheers for replies. I don't really want to take it apart, but it's on the list..
Trying ADB commands now. Newbie to it, so if anyone can point me in the right direction, would be good.
Attempting to use ADB commands with xRecovery 0.3-release. (as SELECT button doesn't work)

Hello all. I'm new to the world of kaosfroyo, and different types of roms, etc. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to fix a couple of problems i'm having with my droid eris.
I traded an old blackberry for it. The gent i got it from said it is running kaosfroyo v31. I was playing around with it before activating it, and realized that when i try to use the camera, the phone turns itself off, then back on again. And when i dial *228 to try to activate it, i cant get the dial pad to come up to select my option.
I apologize if this is in the wrong area of the site, but i'm not as tech savvy as i'd like to be, but would appreciate any help and pointing in the right direction anybody could give me.
Thanks to all in advance. And I apologize again for my lack of knowledge.

to program the phone, hold down the menu button till the keyboard pops up hit the numeric key and press one, you probably need to update your rom
Thanks, I appreciate the help. How would i go about updating my Rom?
Search for how to flash a custom ROM. theunlockr.com has good info. You don't need to worry about rooting, so it should be easy.
First download the rom you want on your computer. Then plug the phone into the computer. Pull down the notification bar on the phone and press where it says usb connected. Mount the sdcard. You should now be able to open the sdcard on the computer. Move the zip file of the ROM to the sdcard. Not in a folder. Unmount the sdcard and wait till it says usb connected in the notification bar again. Unplug the phone from the computer. Next, turn off the phone. Then while holding the volume up button, press and hold power till the phone restarts. It will boot to recovery.
From there, wipe both data and dalvik by using the trackball. After that push the down volume button to return to the main menu. Then flashe zip from sdcard. Pick the new ROM and press the trackball. Wait till done and reboot phone.
Enjoy.

Hey there,
Everytime I try to activate the front camera I either get a 'cannot open camera' error or just a black screen (even though I can change the settings), sometimes I just get a FC after few seconds.
I tried using different camera application and all I get is a black screen, some application allow me to take a picture but the result is just a completely black image.
I don't know what triggered the problem, it was pretty sudden. I was on CM7. Even after a complete wipe and flashing olympus rom, nothing has changed.
I tried cleaning the cache, rebooting, everything I can think of.
Looking for older threads in the forums didn't result any useful information.
Help would be very much appreciated.
bump?
Have you flashed a full blur ROM yet to make sure it isn't a hardware issue?

Lets say I go back to motion blur rom and nothing changes, will it confirm that it is certainly a hardware issue? Thanks for the respond.
I haven't mentioned it but the LED doesn't work too.
Its possible that a cable was knocked loose. If you verify it is a hardware issue, you can void your warranty and take apart your phone to try and fix it following instructions here: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Atrix-4G-Teardown/4964/1
I dropped my phone in some water, and the volume up button was acting like it was always being pressed (really annoying when rebooting as it kept kicking into RSD mode). I managed to disassemble it and clean the button, and now it works great again.
Is the only way to verify is to install motion blur rom? If so, is there any recommendation for a specific rom that might give me the most accurate indication that it's a hardware issue?
Thanks for the quick respond.
I would say that as soon as you have tried a ROM with a different kernel, you have verified a hardware issue.
Changed to motion blur based rom, still dead.
I guess it's a hardware issue.
Btw I dont know why I wrote it's the front camera but I meant the back camera so if it's BACK Camera+LED Light and switching roms/format/hardreset didn't help so it's a hardware problem.
I'll try and contact Motorola since I still have warranty.
BACK and MENU buttons on my i9100 are no more working. Actually, sometimes they do all of a sudden. I tend to believe that this is not a hardware issue. Otherwise, they should not work at all.
...
I have no reliable repair shops around. None of the technicians in my area gaurantee a proper fix. They want me to let them try their luck and i am dont want any experiments as they were not able to show me any replacement parts. I'd rather install on-screen buttons like original android 4.0. However, i cant find any for latest CM9 nighlies as they are android 4.0.4 yet.
.........
I have tried flashing customer/official ROMS via ODIN/CWM. Nothing works. After Odin flash, they work for some time and then stop all of a sudden.
I have a gut feeling that keys stopped working properly when i left the phone on charging overnight last month. Does that sound sane? if that indeed is the cause, only battery should be fubar. Right? I should replace battery? Battery seems very healthy by the way.
Could someone help me make some progress?
Weather is hot. So i dont think it got any moisture in it.
...
I have tried many obvious steps.
Installing various stock ROMS (2.3.3, 2.3.5), restoring my NANDROID backup (CF root's CWM Manager 4), restoring efs (using kTool), trying custom ROMS without keeping the kernal that was already provided with the ROM, wiping stuff from recovery...... nothing worked so far. I did not try any custom kernals like siyah, NEAK etc.
.....
is there some sort of debugger type utility which would scan key codes for me to see if keys are generating any hardware interrupts? (sorry im using pc terminology).
In other words, i want to see key codes when each of the hard / soft keys are pressed. It will tell me a lot.
For on screen button i think there is a thread about it. A flashable zip(dunno if it supports the latest cm9) to install on cm9 and Paranoidandroid(based on cm9) has an option for that. I know it is not the answer you are looking for but i think it will help for the time being.

I have flashed a zip to CM 9 to enable Android 4 touch keys, like the ones we see on Galaxy Nexus. However, my expedition to fix the capacitive buttons is still 'on'.
Hi everyone...
Some days ago, i was trying, OmniROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544790). I follow all the steps and even get the superSU app going. One night, y saw how my nightly got updated, and in the morning, start to reboot randomly. If I push the power botton sometimes, doesn´t appear the blockscreen but the screen with the reboot option and turn off appear...
I put my cellphone back to stock with root using SuperOneClick from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081. Then, I format my sd card and internal storage...The problem persist...
I would like that someone help me, I'm tryin everything and didn't solve it...
Based on your description, it sounds like a hardware issue -more specifically, a failing power button.
I have read that some users were able to fix the issue by disassembling the phone and spraying out the switch with contact cleaner, and I have read that others had the power switch replaced altogether.
Hopefully others will chime-in with their thoughts.

I had to replace my power button. this is a known issue with the s2.
I recommend this guy's services: http://stores.ebay.com/t989-refurb -- he can do the i777 even though it's not listed. He's a very nice guy and will do a fine job.
here's his video demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0xMMn1DRWs
Hello Everyone
I have a small issue with my S6 basically what it is that the Recent apps and back button do the same thing open Recent apps. I have a look online everyone says its a software issue but i done everything Hard, Soft, Factory reset and still same. So now I know that its not software it will be the hardware. Maybe any one know witch part of the phone is responsible for the back button functions and would I be able to replace it? Without replacing the phone?
I tried to replace the one of the boards of the phone( the one that has charging port headphone jack and sothing else) but that didn't help. I cant get phone in for the warranty do to i have voided KNOX .
So any ideas would help.
Thank you all
:good:
Acutally this is software. There is a file in the system that controls what those buttons to. You can try and flash your firmware via odin to see if that fixes the issue.

Same problem here!
Back button thinks is recent apps , sometimes work sometimes not , think is an software bug or something.
The problem started after android 6 update.
Downgrade to 5.1.1 dont make a difference.
Some ideas to solve that?
I'm having the exact same issue with mine. Have a solution yet? Cleared cache, checked safe mode and factory reset. Same issue.

Hi, I have the same problem with te back key. What solved problem for me was installing the app called ,, all in one gestures'' ( free on the market),
in the app, go to the ,, hard keys'' , enable de the app from te accesability tab, at the back key tab select single tap and select the ,, back '' from the submenu.
Hope works for you guys !
