How to unroot Eris to 2.1 ?
How would I do that if needed ?
I can't help but think that there is an easier way that I just haven't seen in my 5 minutes of searching, but I know that you could do it this way:
Follow the unroot process back to stock 1.5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652419
Then get the official 2.1 OTA Rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695593&highlight=ruu&page=2
Once that is installed I believe you should be on an official stock rom. The older posts mention not being able to root this, but I do think they have come up with a couple of other options for rooting if you need to go back to it. Hope this helps...
I guess we could cobble together a new "downgrade.zip" that uses the boot.img and /system/ directory from stock 2.1 instead of the ones from stock 1.5 (and of course it wouldn't need to downgrade the radio.img anymore, so that would be removed).
If you're just doing it to return the phone, I'd recommend just running the RUU for 2.1. The only reason that's never been suggested before is that it upgrades your HBOOT to 1.49 S-ON, which previously meant that it was unrootable. Now that it's rootable, it shouldn't make any difference.

What's RUU ?
If you follow the guide to go to 1.5 stock then get OTA update for 2.1, can you root again later ?
The RUU is the main stock rom that the Eris comes shipped with. You can grab it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=606699 (use the one posted by thenestor 1/2 way down the 1st page) and save it, just in case. Now they have figured out how to root all the versions of roms out there for our phones. More info found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725096 . I do like to help, but most of these threads are right on the first page of the Development forum. Feel free to browse through there and the stickies at the top of the forum to gather some more information. You can't be too prepared when you are messing with the internal information of your phone...
Let me know if I can help with anything else.

I am running stock samsung firmware on the T-Mobile Vibrant.
I had been holding off on rooting/rom-ming it because i was afraid of bricking.
I think i want to root now for 2.2, and have been going over the forums.
However, I need a method of rooting which will also support my upgrading to a 2.3 rom later on when it is released. Because according to what i have read, the safest way to get to 2.3 would be to to go back to a stock 2.1 and then repeat whatever steps are given.
TL;DR: I need an easy point which gets me to Froyo right now which will aslo get me to Honeycomb later without too much brickage chances and complications. Thanks
You can root keeping the stock rom and still receive the OTA updates

There is a ton of info on this site to assist IF you want to install a custom ROM. There is a great video that shows you a lot of what you need to do to be able to install the ROM. Take a look around and read read read. It is a fairly simple task and I have tried to brick my phone and ODIN has always come to the rescue!http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821468

Should be a simple two step process:
1) If you're going to relock the device, follow htcdev.com directions and relock. When finished, top of the bootloader will show *RELOCKED*.
2) Use the RUU (ROM Update Utility) which is produced by HTC and leaked onto HTC. The best location to obtain the latest version is: http://www.goo-inside.me/shooter/RUU.
Sad to see an EVO 3D user go! Good luck!
Hi
I was hoping someone could help me out. I have researched this forum but haven’t found a clear answer to my question.
I currently have an unlocked rooted stock Rezound and am interested in trying out ICS, but want to keep the old radios (firmware) , in case I want to return to original stock/firmware.
Can someone please provide me with clear directions on the exact steps I need to take to flash to ICS. Any input would me much appreciated

Which ICS Rom are you looking at? Most of them have the directions in their first posts. They require flashing one additional patch if you want to keep the old firmware. There's a few threads with exact directions already...
Looking at Clean Rom. It is not clear to me if I need to relock the bootloader or not . Also must I always start with installing the PH98IMG zip no matter what?

If you want to keep the old firmware, no need to lock the boot loader or try to run the ICS leak RUU...
Just follow the directions in the clean rom thread and install the old firmware patch. When you install CleanRom 4.3 or the 1.2 DE, it creates a folder on the SD card and you can find the patch there. Continue on and install the boot image as it states.
Thank you so much. That answers my question.
I ran mine for a couple days bone stock. My radio performance was SIGNIFICANTLY worse than my Tbolt sitting 10 inches from it. I'm running BAMF now on new firmware and my radio performance is much better. Much less data network hunting, holding onto signals longer, and smoother transitions between cells. I'm also getting round about 9 hours on a charge including nearly an hour of HQ youtube on the stock battery. It SEEMS to me the new firmware is a marked improvement, but actually results always seem to vary, of course. Just my 2 cents.
So, I have been reasonably experienced in the Android world with terms to Nexus devices and Samsung but HTC still confounds me. I have an S-Off Rezound, it is on GB Firmware and everytime I flash a ROM I have to flash a fix for old firmware or else is random reboots. I have searched and searched on different occasions for the answer to this but I have yet to find a straight answer. Feel free to flame me, be rude, etc., but can someone please point me in the right direction. My Fiancee loves her Rez, has been running sense 4.1 since we got it (it was s-off when we got it, a happy surprise from the seller we bought it from on eBay.) But she is weary of the extra steps she needs to take to update a ROM. Can anyone point us in the right direction?

RUU http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
1st flash RUU(it will give you new firmware permanently)
2nd flash any rom with new firmware
Or ....
Download this
http://old.androidfilehost.com/main/-Support_Files-/SuperChilPil/[ICS][2.27][STOCK][8-12]PH98IMG.zip
but don't run it as a PH98IMG just yet, replace the hboot in it from this
http://old.androidfilehost.com/main/-Support_Files-/SuperChilPil/[ICS][2.25][STOCK][5-7]PH98IMG.zip
You will be soft-bricked until you flash a new rom/re-flash your current one.
Thanks guys, appreciate the info. She is going to run the RUU today and probably just go back to newts one xxx for global. She was getting tired fo forgetting to flash the "fix" everytime she updated.
You don't need to RUU if you're s-off, you can flash just the firmware, keep in mind you'll need to reverse the old firmware patch, that's available in the link below too..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366
Global would be - [ICS][2.27][STOCK][8-12]PH98IMG.zip, follow the directions in the post to install it.
Back up your rom just to be safe but you should be ok just flashing the combo you want along with the "new" firmware patch.
EDIT - Just realized Snuzzo posted the same thing, it's linked from the XDA post above which has directions in it.
Hi All,
Been an Android guy since the G1, but that was also the last time I had anything HTC. Picked up a One yesterday and I'm so happy to be back.
Did a bunch of reading before getting the phone. I wanted to make sure I didn't do anything irreversible. Before I received the phone, I'd read that you couldn't get S-Off with 1.27.531.11, as they'd patched the HBOOT (even though it's still 1.44.) So once I got the phone and confirmed it was on 1.27.531.11, I performed my first step:
1. Downgraded from 1.27.531.11 to 1.27.531.8.
Next:
2. Unlocked using htcdev
3. Flashed TWRP as recovery
4. Installed Android Revolution HD 4.0 Google Edition
All went smoothly! Because I had no issues with this, I decided it was worth it to push on and get S-Off and SuperCID. I read Vomer's guide many times over, and was about to get rolling with revone, when I found another guide ([GUIDE] PRE-S-OFF - IMPORTANT INFO - Read Before Going To S-OFF Threads!) which contained the following:
You are on or flash a STOCK Sense 5, Android 4.1 ROM! (NOTE: 4.2 Software may be OK however for your best chances use the oldest you possibly can!!
But as a result of #4, I'm now on a GPE 4.3 Rom. This gave me pause.
So, two (and a half!) questions really:
1. Should I flash back to a 4.1 or 4.2 rom prior to trying to get S-Off through revone? If so, what rom should I use? My best guess, if this is necessary is Team Nocturnal's Stock Rooted 1.27.531.8
2. Is there anything else flashing Android Revolution HD 4.0 might have done that would cause problems when trying to use revone to get S-Off? I still have Hboot 1.44, and I don't *think* flashing that rom would have somehow made this the patched version present in 1.27.531.11, but I just want to be sure of what I'm doing. (That question sounds so noobish! But better safe than sorry, I'm thinking.)
Thanks in advance, guys. Really didn't have a great community around my last phone, and I'm psyched to be back amongst a big group of tinkerers.
And from that same guide:
Are not using a GE ROM, 4.3 Rom or on stock 4.3 software
So it definitely seems like I should flash something older first. Just want to confirm what would be best (and make sure there's nothing else I need to do as well prior to using revone.)
All set. S-Off and SuperCID achieved.
For anyone who finds this thread down the road:
As long as you've downgraded to 1.27.531.8, just make sure you're on a 4.2.2 or earlier rom. Multiple reports of revone not working with 4.3 roms. You're on an older rom after doing the downgrade, so if you don't flash anything after that, you're ready to use revone.
Thank you for the info! I had wondered the same thing!
