i see all these nice incons and i have no clue how u install them , i really would appericate it if someone could list step by step how to install them thank u so much
Here my friend take a look at this thread! I don't think I can explain it much better!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567080
What are those "Help me!!!!!!!"-Threads always supposed to be? Is it so difficult to choose a proper ThreadTitle which informs a potential reader about the content of the Thread. And why the hell must it sound like you have bricked your phone completely when u just want to ask a minor standard-question (without even using the searchfunction by the way... ). Please Guys keep this forum clean and informative.
Thanks
Yes, it's crazy to see all those questions without people make the effort to use the search function!
im not that good on here sorry for the quesions but i have one more how do u flash your cabs and xmls again im sorry and thank u alot

Flash is fore Rom's!!
Cabs are installed!!
Just download the cab's you need, copy to your SD and pres on install! Don't see the difficult in it!
Oh yes fore your safety, install the cab on the device's memory!!
no i understand all of that , im talking about when i save my new icons to a folder then go in and copy them , i needed to knw where i paste them so they will show up in the start menu
^^^ Did you actually really read the answer in posting #2?
I kind of doubt that. Because your new question implies you haven´t.
Please follow the link, read everything, download and try the app - and there you go.
so friendly
Wow xda-developers is so friendly!! Whats with all the jumping on people. If someone is new they dont know how it works in here. So just let them know , in a nice way. The responses here sound like you dont want any new people here. Fine any new person who reads this head over to www.ppcgeeks.com . The people are much nicer there and wont get pissed if you ask a question.

Sometimes (a lot of) people just don't read nor search and expect to be spoon-fed the information they need (because they would not spend the effort to do/find it themselves). I don't know about the majority but to me that is just laziness and quite annoying.
AS FOR THE QUESTION POSTED, if you actually do go to the link posted above, the information is there and any questions you might still have is better directed in that thread rather than creating a new one such as this with a SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!! subject line.
I thought moderators are deleting threads such as this.

Nobody is jumping on anybody.
The truth is harsh sometimes. Obsolete and redundant questions and answers are definitely not something any forum is searching for. It´s called spam.
Ignoring the correct answer (which in this case was given in the very first answering posting) isn´t a beginners mistake, imho. It doesn´t show respect to the user who posted the link.
If me pointing out this very fact was too rude, I am sorry. But to be honest, I am tired of recurring subjects which could easily be solved using the search function. I did the same when I came here as a beginner. Oh, and btw, please check the forum rules and the new stickies.
Last, but not least, in the other forum you mention, it might be a different story sometimes. People get ignored there, and some statements are much harsher than anything I have personally ever seen here.
We are all human beings. Cool down.
info
Ok yes the link provided was good information. I personally just PM someone when I have a question. I been here for a while so i have that option because people will PM me back.
My point is some people or smarter than others. Iam a developer myself, so alot of problems or questions I can figure out on my own. But some people are not that smart and this phone can very easily expose that fact. So some new people might need more help , and sarcasm wont help anyone. They dont call this a smart phone for nothing. Whats simple to you and me , might be complicated to others.

I don't see what's your problem Sr.
First of all the moderators have create a special sub-forum fore this Q and A.
secondly I can understand that maybe using the searchfunction is not easy to everyone, and certainly not if you don't know what to search!
But after the moment I post him the correct link to his question, a hole thread that give you bay the way a hole step by step explanations I don't know how we can give a better treatment!?
but after that the person came back with a question what is tread in there!!!???
I don't know sr but there is a end on everyone's goodness!
nice is a good word
Ok I understand its annoying when newbies just dont get it. As for a problem I dont have one , and maybe I came off harsh. My mistake too.
When the OP said flash a cab , that alone told me he isn't computer or phone savy. He obviously is way over his head with this type of phone. He probaly got lucky when he found this website. Iam sure he was excited that he could ask a question because he was lost. The comment that pissed me off a little was telling him its safer to install to the phone. Thats definitally not right at all.
The only reason I said anything was because I could tell the OP was really lost and confused. By reading his comments I could tell he never had anything like this before. So for his 1st venture into the wonderful world of windows mobile, I just didnt want him to be discouraged. I want him to enjoy the phone and mod it to the fullest extent.
the reason way I have wright "installed cabs on your device" is because there are some cab's that don't have a correct installation pat. And like I saw it was a new member who posted this thread I give him this tip, to be sure he don't installed it on SD.
I don't see what is wrong with that!?
installation
1) Installation on a unstable OS like windows mobile ,will cause slowdown in the future after alot of apps are installed. Its nobodys fault but HTC who made the phone.
2) If there is a virus , you can delete it easier on storage card.
3) If you have to hard reset the phone , you lose everything. Thats why I recommend storage card.
See how nicely I spoke , I gave point by point reasons without sarcasm. We are all happy now.
It´s a bit sad to see the development of this thread.
Something which was not "bashing" turned into bashing after a posting was made, citing the "bad word". In the meantime, there was even a thread opened to discuss that very question.
I think both threads should be closed. They don´t belong into the "HD2 Themes and Apps" section anyway.
And, imho, it is recommendable to install system relevant items like icon cabs to the device, I definitely second kurt-willems´ advice. On the other hand, CSMI or JWMD Icon Changer, the possible programs to change icons manually, can go onto the memory card.

I don't want to wade in on the bashing, but to make a comment like your first one, "unstable OS", sounds to me like you have something against windows mobile, and to post in a thread of someone looking for help that their os is just "Unstable" is not really help ...
I am sure there are a lot of people that use WiMo daily and would not agree that it is "Unstable"
I personally install almost everything to phone memory because this phone can take it, and my phone runs just fine...
With this phone there is a bigger chance of the SD card getting corrupted than the OS ...
life is funny
Its very funny to me now. I just responded and I didnt bash anyone. Its funny how people can talk to someone anyway they like, but cant take it when someone talks to them the same way.
If you didnt like the way I responded, maybe you shouldnt that way to others. Very simple have a nice day!!!
I would appreciate some guidance with my question. I have a G-TAB that is running the Android 2.2 OS. I am aware that there are better OS systems available for the G-TAB with more capabilities, but I have heard that some of them disable FLASH and the CAMERA capabilities? I was wondering if there was a better OS upgrade out there in the development world that would not disable some of the origianl G-TAB features? Also, since I am a novice in this area, is there a service available that will perform this OS upgrade for me for a price? Please advise as I would like to move forward with the suggested upgrade. Many thanks!
There are some good froyo roms such as brilliant corners, mountain laurel, And a couple more that don't lose any functionality. There are plenty of guides to follow to change roms. Just read them carefully and follow the instructions. Don't pay someone to do it.
I'm more than happy to do it but I'm expensive. Considering that it costs 200+ more to buy a unit with Linux on it, I would charge the same for any possible version of Android. The majority of the price is the liability and time. I can fix anything, that's not the problem. The real problem lies in how we're forced to upgrade devices. It's a pretty straight forward process but if anything goes wrong it could take hours of research to figure it out.
If you're willing to pay $200 and ship it to me with a return label, I'm more than happy to help you out. Honestly you could do the same things I'm going to do if you put a little time into the research here on XDA and the other forums out there. If you're too busy or not technically inclined I can understand that. Daddy needs a new pair of shoes as they say...
PM me if you still need someone to help.
I'm not aware of any real service for flashing tablets. But we aware that if you pay someone to flash a new ROM you'll have no knowledge of how to fix it when things go wrong. And things will eventually go wrong. If you want to run anything other than stock, it's absolutely necessary to understand at least the basics of modding android devices. Check out http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/ to get started. Good luck.

Obviously not an illiterate one, though.
Does anyone ever read first, then ask questions anymore?
I know that it can get confusing, but really. Before I got my Gtablet back in April, I read just abotu every thread on here, and watched just abotu every youtube video available.
Was I fearful when I flashed my first rom? Absolutely. Did it work flawlessly? Absolutely. Did I read, re-read, watch videos, re-read, read step by step as I was doing it, then read again when I was done to make sure I didn't skip a step...YOU BET YOUR BIPPY I DID.
The reason that I get blunt when I see these questions is because this tablet has been available for almost a year. There is more information available for this device on several forums that there should be no reason to ask questions that have been answered at least 50 times.
If you seriously need a "service" to flash a rom for you, then you REALLY should have bought an iPad, and have been stuck with whatever Apple provides.
FORUM RULES:
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
I had rooted my Nook Color and then was running CM7 off the SD card. Eventually, the screen had issues, so I returned it (still under warranty) and got the Nook Tablet. I'm pretty much liking it stock, but would like to root it. (Ideally, I'd like to run an OS off the SD card again, but I understand that's not available yet.) I'm a little lost with all the different threads and links floating around. I want to be sure I'm using the latest, and most problem-free, method.
Can someone point me to the latest, and easiest, rooting link? Indirect's, yes?
Thanks, Lori

use indirect's root if you still want to keep the B&N experience (apps, books, etc)
use snowball mod if you want an almost pure android tablet (B&N is basically removed)
i like snowball mod cause i don't really use B&N services and it gets rid of bloatware which is always nice...
There is a thread that was just created for Noobs...just read that thread, very informative.
Edit: core is for...sorry spell checker
Core noobs? What does that mean? Obviously, I know what noobs mean, but not sure what you're referring to. Do you have a link?

I don't like to hold hands for anyone. Yes we were all new to things but before you jump in the water you should learn how to swim. People get on these forums, see root files and jump in and when they are drowning or have drowned expect to get a quick fix which isn't fair to those who do their homework and research...just saying. If I'm posting from my phone or tablet, I don't go out of my way to provide links; hence the reason I say search.
If I post asking a question it's after I did all my homework and once I don't locate, I'll ask because no one knows all the anwers.
man, sometime i think it is more effort for us to copy and past a link than it is for noobs to just take the initiative to read... ><; Not to take it out on this one poster, but i have seen many people post a question like "hey everyone I am new, update me on whats going on"... instead of just reading.
First, let me say, "Thank you," for your video, which was very helpful.
In response to what you wrote, I do read. I read quite a bit. Perhaps you've forgotten what it's like to learn something in a language you don't speak. When you're new to this stuff, every single thing you read contains something you don't understand. And you look things up and look things up, until you've got 20 windows open on different topics, in the hope that you can piece it all together, and remember what you were looking up in the first place. If I've spent more than 45 minutes merely trying to "find" the information I need, which is no small task with a search feature that doesn't let you search phrases, and another couple of hours sifting through the confusing information, I don't think it's a stretch to then turn to those in the know, on a newbie forum, for help.
Again, I appreciate very much what you guys (and girls) do. But you post it up here for people to use.
I don't know about other newbies, but sometimes I feel like I'm going to be flogged if I don't word things the right way or perform the prerequisite quantity of searching beforehand. I do my best.
Again, thanks to those of you who have helped me out.

I'm posting from my phone and providing a link would be a LOT of work, so excuse my lack of linking.
There was a new method posted up that allows you to keep root and update to 1.4.1. The problem is that 1.4.1 will not allow sideloading from the browser, and the author doesn't hold your hand through the whole process. Its nowhere near as nooblet friendly as Indirects root method.
The learning curve is STEEP, some of us are still working on it. The faq sticky is AWESOME and has a ton of link to helpful stuff, incuding my own ADB guide.
Thanks for the new info!

Hello there, Since I am somewhat poor and I´m still under my parents wing... I upgrade phones about every 5 years, (well at least until I start working) so i was really outdated with phones but i did my homework and got to the conclusion that Android based phones are the best price x performance/ features.. specifically Motorola brand around the $200 mark so my decision was between the Droid 3, Photon 4g & Atrix 4G.. I decided for the Atrix with the lapdock which i think is the best feature until now!
This it my first smartphone ever! laugh at this.. I´m upgrading form a Motorola Rokr em35 which i remember that i bought for $180 because it was a music player based phone that had a 3.5mm headphone jack! and now i bought the atrix with the lapdock for $250 on eBay.
Im just learning how to use the phone I´m hoping for some guidance on some things i should and shouldn't do!
first off.. My phone is blocked.. so Im thinking about buying an unlock code for about $2 since its blocked in my country (Dom. Rep.) ,, hows that about?
i want to learn all about the cool stuff i can do with the phone.
learn about custom roms and themes... Ive heard theres roms that are really optimized for the Atrix 4G and even overclocked!! but i dont want to loose the webtop ability?
I heard that you can make a partition on a micro sd and install a Full Ubuntu OS ... which im most exited about! even thought ive never used linux!
Luckily im into computers since I study computer science/engineering and these things shouldn't be hard for me to learn.
im really eager to get on to this stuff and I hope i can get somebody to guide and help me though all this! i hope this is the right place
Before doing any unlocking, or custom roms, etc. READ, RE-READ IT, THEN READ IT ALL AGAIN. until you understand what you are doing.
as for ubuntu ( linux ) on your phone, you said that you never used linux before. I would learn the basics with linux, on a computer, before slapping it on your phone and not understading the OS. But thats up to you. its just easier to learn it on a pc from start, rather than on a phone that you dont even understand yet.
No question here, is a dumb question, so ask away, ( just remember to search before asking so ya dont get the crap flammed out of ya )
once ya start learning linux, you will love it. its better than windows.
Good Luck!

thanks, I´ll read as much as I have to.. can you post me some good links on these sfuff.. but first i wanna unlock and root the phone. I seen vendors on ebay that provide you with an unlock code for your IMEI. should i do that¿
edit: btw i am familiar with ubuntus UI since Ive used it a few times but never had it personally for me so i dont now things like commands lines and that advanced stuff. i just like the idea of using the lapdock as a notebook and not being limited by the ROM/OS ... would be good for collage.

the wiki has most the guides, roms, and other stuff listed out, and its mostly up to date.. you should definitely read through the noob guide first because it has all the terminology you'll be seeing throughout the rest of the forums
If you want to keep your webtop the roms I would recommend are darkside or wetdream, both by Nottach..they have a ton of great features..of course there are others and I recommend you go through all of them and find whats right for you..just avoid cyanogen mod(CM7, CM9) based roms because they do not include webtop or any close alternative for now
Just remember, take your time on rooting and unlocking your bootloader, because you can really mess things up, but after that everything else should be pretty easy..
And don't worry too much about your rom selection, if you back everything up properly you should be able to switch roms in under an hour, so you can try out many different roms before settling on which one you like best(such a hard choice!)

thanks so much for being kind with this noob
It can't be overstated though. READ. I've been toying with my Atrix for a couple of months now, and came close to bricking my phone since I didn't read it all. By all I don't mean only posts about the developer, but problems people have encountered with their specific atrix model.
You've got to read a lot though.
The Atrix was my first Android and I have to say I couldn't be happier with the level of customisation you can get.

Hey guys, as you can see I am new to the whole wide world of android. I have had an iPhone since 2007 and recently dropped my iPhone 4 on the pavement which completely wrecked the screen. I seized the opportunity to buy an android. I got this s2 for 350 on eBay.
Anyway... I have absolutely no idea what I am getting into here. I have watched a ton of videos and still am really lost. (Sadly)
I have this s2 at 4.0.3 and am completely lost when it comes to how to flash a rom. I get we have to use ODIN, Kies and your rom. Am I missing anything else?
I want to use this. galaxys2root. com/att-galaxy-s2/aokp-ics-rom-for-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777-best-ics-rom/ << I cannot post links so its just a space in between the .com
I have seen videos where I have to root the thing first- or will this do it for me? I have also seen "roms" that are 400 MB in size but this one I like its 134... Am i missing any files or something? I have done searching but I end up more confused than I started. If someone could give me a push in the right direction that would be a great help!
This is the first phone I am actually confused with... I am sure it is easy, just not for a guy who has had an iPhone and developed for them since then... (I am co founder of whited00r )
Start with the links in the sticky. Be sure to read them all.
You said your phone is already on 4.0.3, which is Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). That means it's not stock (aka factory settings, out of the box, etc). I'd personally suggest after reading all the links, returning to stock and starting over from scratch as it's the best way to ensure you don't have any problems, especially since you don't really know what the previous owner did to your phone. The links for returning to stock and for flashing custom ROMs are also in the sticky. Please don't read just these links, read at least all of the other links posted there. That's just the starting point mind you, you should probably do more reading after that on stuff in the posts that you don't understand. I know this will take a lot of time, but it's for everyone's benefit that you fully understand everything you do to your phone before you do it.
I'll even help you out with a couple other links I think may be useful which aren't in the sticky.
ROM vs. Kernel
Odex vs. Deodex
Please hit my thanks button if I helped you. Good luck and welcome to the forums!

From now on, don't watch any videos. They tend to be incomplete and usually outdated. Also, don't use any files or methods you find anywhere else besides XDA.
Like karate104 said, read the stickies at the top of the forums; they will tell you everything you need to know in detail. Read this one in particular. It has links to a lot of useful guides.
you also need to be wary of what you read and watch on gs2root. com
when i first started i used the rooting technique with the kernel from there and ended up with no wifi and ended up having to flash entropy's daily driver to recover
as the guys above said, read the stickies here and go over it a million times until it makes sense
flashing can open up loads of features, but you can very easily make your phone unusable (easily fixable once not hard bricked) but better avoid the trouble than finding a fix
Another victim on galaxys2root!
Sigh!
