Goldcard G2 won't sync - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I recently goldcarded my phone, and now have 2.73.405.5 running on it, but it won't sync with my PC, and I can't import contacts from the memory card either, can anyone help me out?
Thanks,
Kev

Reinstall latest HTC sync from HTC site?,... update drivers?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App

If you have goldcard downgraded to 2.73.405.5 I assume you're going to install a custom rom so there isn't any point in syncing the data now because its about to be wiped again. Wait until you get onto the custom rom then put the data back.
Also contacts aren't stored on the memory card AFAIK...

Contacts are on /data. Use Google contact sync if u want then backed up.

For now I'm not going to install a custom ROM, as it sounds like 2.1 for Hero is round the corner, with the 1st part being released etc, I'll probably get frustrated and do it in the next few months, but right now I just want to be running standard HTC software, and the possibility of custom ROMs in a bit. I know they aren't installed on the memory card, but you should be able to import them from the memory card, no? That's what I've done in the past...
I've tried re-installing the drivers, but I'll try re-installing Sync.
Thanks
I've been messing with it, and after re-installing the T-Mobile software with the goldcard in, and doing the update to the 2.1 part 1 update it all works fine.
Thanks for your help/
Kevin

2.1 is already fully released officially.
You can backup the contacts using HTC sync, or if they are google contacts they are automatically synced.

HTC Hero Update using Mac...help!!

I am using Mac, and i see that they do not have sync program for Mac. So, how do i perform my HTC hero ROM Update??
Also do i need to put in my SD card while updating my ROM in the phone??
Thanks...
[ EDIT: Sorry, I see your question is specific to HTC Rom update - not sure about the answer for that ]
I use a mac - and do the following.
To sync contacts and calenders, I had to set up a GMail account, and it then worked no problem when I activated Google Sync on the phone.
For Roms and rooting I followed these guides:
Root:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-root-your-htc-hero-in-one-click/
Rom:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-your-htc-hero/
All files can be loaded onto your SD card from your mac ( mount sd and copy over required files ).
The important bit is to root first - then make a Nandroid backup so you can always restore your phone to how it was before you started. The nandroid file is copied to your sd card - and I then copy it over to my mac as insurance in case anything goes wrong with your card.
Hope this helps
ps. Modaco has done a lot of work on releasing Roms - his latest is 2.2 and rocks!!

As far as I can tell, there is no need for the HTC Sync program. Also, you have to have your SD card inside your Hero when doing this ROM.
For a little bit better explanation, use these video links at The Unlockr:
Rooting
After step 12, MAKE SURE YOU DO AN NANDROID BACKUP JUST IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG! YOU WILL SEE THIS IN THE RECOVERY SCREEN!
Flashing Hero ROM
If anyone has anything to add, please do so! I don't want this guy to mess up his Hero!
EDIT: Dang, I guess I was too slow =D

Do you want to install the Official ROM and no MoDaCo's or Drizzy's ROM? If so, then I'm not too sure what the process is.
But if you want to install the MoDaCo or Drizzy custom ROMs, you must root your phone first, and with those videos, it should be an easy process.

I am talking about installing official ROM update that is released here in Nordic. HTC has not released any Sync programs for mac still. That is i am very aware of. Back some years when i had HTC TyTn_II i used to have desktop running Xp as well. So it was not problem. Maybe i go over to a friend install HTC sync in his pc and run the update.
But do i need to have SD Card in my phone for this??

Ready to flash my first rom, have a few questions please

I am getting ready to flash my first rom on my rooted aria and have a few questions and clarifications. I am considering liberated R012 or FR007. Thank you in advance for your help.
Based on what I have read, if I flash FR007 HTC Sync will no longer work. If so, how would you sync Outlook contacts and calendar events with FR007?
If I flash R012, will HTC Sync continue to work and sync Outlook the same as it does with the stock rom?
If I backup all user apps + system data with Titanium Backup Free version before flashing the new rom, would I simply restore missing apps + system data from Titanium after flashing the new rom to completely restore all of my previous applications and data?
Since I am flashing a rom for the first time, do I need to wipe data, cache and dalvik cache in clockwork before flashing the new rom?

1. Can you link to what you have read? As far as I know, Sync will work with FR007 and I'm basing that off of this. FR007 is just a liberated froyo rom. HTC Sync will not work with cyanogen based ROMs.
2. Should do.
3. Yes.
4. I believe the answer to this is yes. It will not hurt if you do as long as you back up your apps and stuff like that. Otherwise you'll need to redownload everything.

Hi zervic, thanks for your response. You may be right that FR007 and HTC Sync are compatible. The post I read is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840242. It says "HTC Sync will only work with HTC Roms". I read that to mean that it would not work with FR007. Perhaps someone else will confirm this.

FR007 is an HTC Sense ROM, so HTC Sync should work.

[Q] Verizon Backup Assistant

Hi all. Noob here. First I want to thank all of you that are writing these amazing roms, apps and roots. Top notch.
I am running BAMF Remix 1.5 and love it! I have not had any issues with it at all. My question is this. I need to load Verizon Backup Assistant in order to recover all of my contacts that I backed up from my BB Storm. With this ROM the verizon backup assistant is no longer available. I would prefer to not have to go back to stock in order to recover these contacts, so is there any way to get the backup assistant without having to grenade BAMF, go to stock, recover contacts, then go back to BAMF?
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide me.

Verizon Backup
i had the saem thing for a little bit... all you have to doo is go back to the page that you down loaded the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009876 and then scroll to the bottom of the first link and you will see all the zip files you need to install. along with the verizon backup and some other good ones. you will need to eather use Rom manager and install from your sd card or use appinstaller and still install from your sd card.... hope this helps

I saw all of those but assumed (shame on me) that since I was using the "REMIX" that it did not apply. So I guess it is safe to assume that it can be used on the "Remix" version.
I am surprised that a Verizon store transferred the contacts to a rooted phone?
At any rate, thank you both for your prompt responses.
Downloaded and installed backup_asst via recovery manager from the Das BAMF 1.5 thread here
When I look for it in apps it is not listed. It does say that it was successfully installed via recovery manager.
Any help on this one?
Never mind, figured it out... did not show up in apps, so I went into the "Setup" app and lo and behold there it was. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
You might want to consider backing up your contacts to your Google account since most roms do not support backup assistant because it is... Crap. Then when you flash new roms and sign in your contacts will already be there and you don't have to worry about the extra crapware.
True. I just needed the backup assistant long enough to get my contacts back on my phone. Now that they are there, I have already backed up to google and uninstalled backup assistant.

Not enough posts under my belt... but thanks!
Another way to do it (This is the way I did it):
Download Google Sync for Blackberry to back up your contacts to your Google Account, and when you sync your TBolt, all of your Google contacts should be there. That's the way I got my contacts from my Curve to my Moto Droid...
To aid customer's who were converting from Features Phones (using Backup Assistant) to Android phones, VZW used to have a walk through when BA wasn't available on Android Phones.. It showed how to use VZW's backup assistant web site on your PC, export contacts to .CSV, and import the .CSV into your gmail account.
While that walk through has been changed with BA now being available for most/all android phones, the BA web site still allows you to export to CSV, and Gmail still allows you to import it.

Google Contacts Storage Recovery

Hey guys, my question is a little different from the other forums that ask for the actual contacts backup/recovery.
I was trying to erase all of the contacts stored on my phone, and thought that I could do it in one click by opening Titanium backup and removing the contact storage directory. Of course, now contacts won't work at all and I need a way to get it back on there. I have searched for an apk but haven't been able to find one for the storage specifically. Any help would be great.
I have a Tmobile LG Optimus One flashed with CyanogenMod 7.1.0 w/ android version 2.3.7
Nevermind
Nevermind, I decided to factory reset it and re-flash my rom and gapps installer. That seemed to fix it

ics ugrade, restore, and general questions

hello everyone
i upgraded my evo 3d to ics last night. i did a full system backup using 4ext before the upgrade (incase i wanted to go back to gb) but i forgot to backup my contacts to a vcard and i added a lot of numbers since the last vcard backup which will be lost to me
my question is can i use my backup from gb rom to restore my contacts (and/or apps) to ics?
i installed 4ext on ics too and when i choose the backup there are options to restore boot, system, data and cache which one(s) should i choose?
i also have some general questions.
1: facebook imported pictures of my contacts are low res, i had this on gb and still have it on ics. how can i fix this?
2: why doesn't the delivery report notification on the notification bar disappear on its ownafter a while? (it does on my friend's sensation xe) it stays there until i clear, is this normal for evo3d?
3: when i install a new rom on my tablet my apps are synced through market when i sign in with my gmail account. why didn't my evo3d do that eventhough the option was selected on the gb rom?
thanks
Unfortunately it's not that easy to import data from incompatible ROMs. I think the best option would be to keep your contacts synced on Google instead of on your phone. But that doesn't help you right now.
Unless there is magic I don't know about, backup your ICS, restore the GB, backup the contacts, and restore the ICS again.

It was never really meant to work on GB. On ICS, it's fully working.

yeah that's what i thought but i am looking for an easier solution (if there's one)
isn't there a way to extract contacts from the backup?
or what happens if i restore the data part of the backup for example, can it cause problems with ics rom?
If data file is zip, you could try to unzip it on your cpu
sent on my Evil Evo running the so called developers kernel
