hello everyone
i upgraded my evo 3d to ics last night. i did a full system backup using 4ext before the upgrade (incase i wanted to go back to gb) but i forgot to backup my contacts to a vcard and i added a lot of numbers since the last vcard backup which will be lost to me
my question is can i use my backup from gb rom to restore my contacts (and/or apps) to ics?
i installed 4ext on ics too and when i choose the backup there are options to restore boot, system, data and cache which one(s) should i choose?
i also have some general questions.
1: facebook imported pictures of my contacts are low res, i had this on gb and still have it on ics. how can i fix this?
2: why doesn't the delivery report notification on the notification bar disappear on its ownafter a while? (it does on my friend's sensation xe) it stays there until i clear, is this normal for evo3d?
3: when i install a new rom on my tablet my apps are synced through market when i sign in with my gmail account. why didn't my evo3d do that eventhough the option was selected on the gb rom?
thanks
Unfortunately it's not that easy to import data from incompatible ROMs. I think the best option would be to keep your contacts synced on Google instead of on your phone. But that doesn't help you right now.
Unless there is magic I don't know about, backup your ICS, restore the GB, backup the contacts, and restore the ICS again.

It was never really meant to work on GB. On ICS, it's fully working.

yeah that's what i thought but i am looking for an easier solution (if there's one)
isn't there a way to extract contacts from the backup?
or what happens if i restore the data part of the backup for example, can it cause problems with ics rom?
If data file is zip, you could try to unzip it on your cpu

ok i got it
if anybody else has the same problem:

for the second time in the last two months, I have begun not receiving texts or calls on my HTC Droid Eris running KaosFroyo v38. I hesitated and eventually decided against posting it there because I can't be sure it's anything in his ROM causing the issue (I may have been running Tazz's Froyo w/ Sense ROM the first time it happened).
I can send texts fine, and people are receiving them, but when they reply, I get absolutely nothing. I can make calls fine as well. When someone tries to call me, their phone says their call cannot be completed (this has only been tested with one phone).
This is becoming quite debilitating because I don't even know when people are trying to contact me, so any help would be appreciated.
NOTE: I have already tried activating the phone through Verizon. Hasn't helped.
I had a similar problem I wasn't receiving text messages. I ended up having to use the flashback21 rom. Everything is fine now.
what does that ROM do?

Any 2.1 sense based rom should fix your problem. You can make a nand of your current setup, flash any 2.1 rom you want boot it check text or phone call and then restore your nand backup for froyo. This should solve the problem but doesn't actually fix why it happened in the first place. How did you get them to start working again the first time? Most people that I've seen with this problem did this "reset" and I hadn't heard of the problem reoccurring but I wouldn't consider it a permanent fix. I personally have no idea what could be happening...not sure if Verizon is not seeing the phone as active since it doesn't have official software or what but I'm pretty sure it's something happening on their end and would have no idea of a way to prevent it unfortunately.
Edit: And you are correct it's not really a KaosFroyo issue as much as just a Froyo issue.
I'll use this opportunity to ask this: how does the NAND backup work (I think I've seen it in the recovery menu, but never used it), and also: whats the best way to backup/restore my apps and settings?

If you boot to recovery and you will see the nand option then you can choose nand backup....it will backup everything on the phone in it's current state including apps, settings, text messages and all. When you are ready to restore it you go back into recovery and back to nand and choose restore. You will only have one if this is your first time doing it but it will say BDS-XXXXXXXX where the x's are numbers that represent the date and time you made the backup(note the number of x's i put there is not the exact amount there will be). Anyway you choose that backup and it will ask if you want to restore it simalar to how it asks when you go to flash a rom. Its really a very simple process and very handy to have a backup. You can make as many backups as you can fit on your card. You can also copy the backups off the card to your pc if you want too.
wow. no more "app backup" apps from the Market for me! thanks for being so quick and helpful! Luckily, attempting to make a call just a second ago caused the phone to crash and reboot, which apparently fixed the problem (I got a boatload of texts as soon as the phone rebooted). Weird.

lol yeah rebooting the phone is always the first thing to try....nand does not replace backup apps though. It only backs them up for that current rom. When you restore a nand it restores the rom that was on the phone when you made the nand so you can't use it to back up info going from one rom to another or upgrading to a newer version of the rom because the nand will just reinstall the old rom.

You can use Titanium Backup, which is extremely popular. There's a free version on the market but I think the free version only does one app at a time. There's also My Backup Pro. Also here on xda you can find QtADB, which, while the phone is connected to the computer, you can use to backup and restore apps and their data. I actually like this way best so far. The backup files are still on your SD card, you just control the backup and restore from the computer.
It sounds like it may be stuck in EVDO only. If your ROM has EPST maybe you can change it.

Yes, exactly. There are other ways, but that's the simplest. You're welcome!
Pretty simple question, i want to upgrade to the latest build by mik. Will this basically wipe everything that isnt on my SD card ? i.e. everything on my desktop, all my settings, all my apps etc.
thanks.
Yes, you will have to wipe everything...
If you want, you can backup your data with apps like "Titanium Backup" or something like those...
U will lost all ur settings,sms,contacts,apps..nd u will lost ur data in sd bcoz u hv to do partition for aps2sd..Its recommrnded to do backup of all ur apps, contacts, sms, nandroid before flashing
oh ok. so ill install apps2sd, move all my apps across, backup contacts and what i can with titanium , flash.
what is this google sync business with contacts ??
so i just flashed to the latest, and its booted back in, and everything is still on my desktop ? like nothing got erased.
i did a full batch titanium backup. did it automatically restore everthing ? even my desktop settings ?? im lost

Haha so luckily you got me and my patience on your thread lol and you questions are simple yeah but not short to answer!
For your question, yes! flashing any rom will exactly wipe EVERYTHING on your phone.
BUT IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM OLDER VERSIONS OF MIK'S 2.3 ROM, it will NOT wipe anything except your google/facebook accounts information.
By the way, for the manual action of "wiping", it depends what android version you are at.
If you are using Froyo 2.2 NOW, yes wipe everything on the list of your custom recovery.
If you are using Gingerbread 2.3 NOW, then you dont have to wipe anything except [cache] and [dalvik cache]. <- You must wipe these two!

I dont get what you mean by "install apps2sd". But whatever you shouldn't do that before flashing a rom. If you mean the Non-froyo App2SD+ (What the hell is non-froyo a2sd?), you should flash it AFTER you have flashed the rom in order to let it activate in the new rom.
Yes. backup all the things with titanium is necessary.
For the google contacts syncing. It is a service provided by Google and it is for you to sync the contacts between your Gmail and your phone. So you can view all your contacts anywhere. You can sync your contacts to gmail and then after rom flashing, the contacts are gone. Simply login back to gmail with the newly flashed rom and then click auto-sync. All of your contacts will be back after a couple of minutes.
But remember one extra point, its sort of a new feature in gingerbread but BE SURE TO UNTICK THE OPTION OF "BACKUP MY DATA ETC TO MY GOOGLE ACCOUNT" after you login your gmail with android 2.3. Why? It actually doesn't backup your data (well for me, i couldnt see it anywhere) but DUPLICATES YOUR MESSAGES WITH NO REASON!

IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.2 FROYO
NO. After you flash, every single thing will be GONE COMPLETELY. You will have to perform a titanium batch restore to get everything back in order.
IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.3 GINGERBREAD (older versions of mik's rom)
Then Yes everything is still on your "desktop" (I think you meant launcher) and ALL SETTINGS WILL REMAIN. However in some cases, home screen widgets will have problems and you will have to place them again. Information in widgets (such as your city for weather widgets, your to-do-list widgets) are NOT BE ABLE TO BACK UP USING TITANIUM OR ANY OTHER METHODS. So make sure you have written down what you have wrote in your widgets!
And finally if you have missed or made mistakes in any step, dont panic! You can always restore your phone back with KDZ UPDATER (Picture guide in this link)!
And when you are using mik's rom, and you would like to have a try on franco.Kernel which provides excellent performance, dont forget to discuss them in the thread The fantastic combination of mik_os' CM7 and franco.Kernel!!
Hope I was clear enough and if any parts of my post have helped you, dont forget to hit the thanks button at the bottom of my post
Good luck! Happy playing with mik's roms!
Thanks alot, makes it clearer.
I will definitely put francos kernel on, the phone still could do with some imporvement in performance.
next thing i need to learn about is the launcher. is it essentially just the UI ?

erm for the launcher its totally simple - ur phone can have multiple launchers, but you usually only use one. and they gives you the app drawer and some screens for you to place your shortcuts and widgets. how are they? what are their performances? differ on different launchers. they all can simple be found on the market, and after installation you will be able to choose the one you want to use, by clicking the home button.
ADW launcher and Launcher Pro being the most famous ones and you may try GO Launcher as some people are using and appreciating it too.
new users if i have given some help you know what to do and happy androiding.
Titanium has been giving me problems for awhile. I haven't flashed anything for a couple months so it hasn't been a big deal, but today when I upgraded the firmware and wound up with some "issues", I really needed to be able to let Titanium do its thing and restore my stuff back like usual. No go.
I'm talking with the TB development people, but in case any of you masters out there have run across this, I thought I'd share.
After a new flash, TB doesn't access my backups. It sees them; they are all crossed out and the summary says I have none to restore. I can tap one and it opens up, but all of the boxes are grayed out. (See pic). Then, if I re-download the app from the store and install it, TB will access it and allow me to restore data only.
So in order to "restore" my apps, I have to download them one at a time from the market first. Any ideas?
I'd force close TB, move the files to a new folder, configure TB to use the new folder

Strange, I have never had a ROM flash wipe my internal sd card. That's where my TiB backups are stored. The only time it got wiped was from the s-off procedure and a radio update.

Well it doesn't really wipe the whole SD card, but clears key folders. I store my backups on my external card and then also back them up to my computer. Just in case...
I had the same issue at first. Moved my backups from internal to external sd. Used dropbox to upload and sync to a folder on my account. When flashing a new ROM I just download TiBu, open it up, make sure the directory is right and then open the menu, hit the reload titanium option and after that hit the menu again and hit the refresh apps button. Works for me every time.

didn't think either of these restored app data though. That is why people use titanium.
I know I had problems with it earlier this year, but it seems to get updated every week here lately and no problems at all. I switched my backup folder to the sd card and it restores apps and data no problem.
I just flashed Venesaur, and I haven't had an issue with TiBu.
In fact, I don't think I've ever had an issue with it. Except when I didn't know how to do something.

Has anyone tried this APK to see if it's compatible with Rezound? I downloaded the free version but want to know if the pro works like it should. I believe the Pro backs up APK data.

Edit:
I just flashed a new ROM and tried the free version of the APK. It worked with the exception of a couple APK's having FC's. I had to Re Install Swiftkey 3 and Titanium backup was giving me a little problems but it corrected itself. I'll report back any other issues I find but so far this APK is a winner.

Also curious to see whether this works reliably on Rezound. There is one review from Rezound user in Play Market.
Also curious what makes this better than just restoring the \data partition via Amon Ra after flashing ROM update (wouldn't do that between different ROMs, but within ROMs, I have).

I have the free version and it is very easy to re-install all your apps. I did notice that when I went from GB to ICS some of the apps didn't work so I had to re-install from the play store (4-5), much easier than trying to re-install 60 apps manually.

Maybe I can make a flashable zip for some random app and you can see if you can flash it?

I'm principally interested in whether the app enables persistence of Exchange data across ROM flashes by enabling a backup. Right now, every time a new ROM is flashed, or even if I switch slots in Boot Manager, I have to completely resynch (i.e. recreate) all Exchange data. With 1700+ contacts, that's a serious impediment.
Frankly, I'm not sure where that data is stored...whether in an app or in a setting, or even if it's in the data partition. Maybe I should go hunting for it....
I know MyBackup Pro will back up contacts, but every time I use it to restore contacts, then sync with Exchange, I end up with two of everything.

I used to be big on using the exchange server for contact sync. I never found a way to restore contacts without duplication errors.
Maybe if there was a program that would use pst or ost files you'd be able to install contacts via sd card but it would also have to sync with Exchange server.

CWM is not a reliable recovery on the Rezound (and this is a Rezound thread).
Try with TWRP or better still Amon Ra 3.15 which is the most reliable recovery on this handset.
That having been said, I did try flashing this through Amon Ra immediately after flashing Newtoroot's XxX Sense 4.0 ROM (but before booting the ROM, then returning to recovery) and I got bootloops. Had to rewipe and reflash, then didn't try restore this way.
Hello guys
I need your help here. So I flashed this new ROM, and the Google Push service seemed to have stopped working completely.
1. Gmail not pushing.
2. K9 push not working
3. Google play store not pushing as well
I have played around (sync on,etc) but I can't seem to find what's wrong with it. So I tried to restore a previous Nandroid backup, but the md5 checksum was mismatched!
I then tried to wipe everything, reflash new ROM etc, and yet the Google Push services aren't working as well.
Can anyone help? I am stuck, I can't go back due to md5 checksum error, and I can't move forward because I don't get Google Push services

Yup I read about that too. The thing is I'm still on ICS, and I have never flashed a jb rom before. The error happened when I flashed hyper galaxy 0.7, which is a ics build.
I have given up on that rom, and I'm not on other rom and the push problem persists. I'm not sure what I did wrong, it's like the problem sticks despite me wiping cache, and everything else.

Sure, here it goes. I have been flashing ROMs etc since 2010, so I am quite familiar with the concept, but this baffles me, before I can't seem to wipe everything clean and restart from point zero, because the problem sticks even after a new ROM is flashed. Is there more to this? Like modem/baseband etc? Thanks in advance for your help!
Baseband I9300XXLH1
Kernel Siyah s3 v 1.5 beta 4
Build no IMM76D.I9300XXBLG9
WanamLite ROM XXBLG V2.2
Thank you!!!
Ok I got it figured out already.
Previously I was on a full feature rom, then I flashed to a stripped down rom. I was short of a few apps, so i flashed additional apps, extracted from titanium etc, without checking their compatibility etc.
When I flash a new rom after that, I'll restore all system data via titanium, and that's why the problem persists. If I flash a new rom without restoring system data, then it's fine.
It's strange though, you'd think that titanium would be able to pick up on that if they aren't compatible.
Anyway problem solved and thanks for your kind assistance!

Yea I realised that with SGS 3. With HTC Desire on Froyo/GB, the issue was nearly non existent, I never had a single issue, be it from Sense to AOSP, back to Sense etc.
Flashing is quite a pain then, if system apps can't be restored via Titanium, having to re apply settings like ringtones, widgets etc?
u can make a nandroid backup and restore

to get it working, i have to open up the app (eg. Whatsapp, hotmail) and i get all of them at once.
did a nandroid rollback to stock kernel and it was working fine
Q. is there a specific setting to kernels that may affect push?
probably Android ID problem
i didn't want to open a new thread for same kind of problem.
Problem occured when i fresh install DLIB (with wipes and everything). After installation complete, i've restored apps + systemdata with titanium. While restoring, it asked me to whether use new android id or restore the old one in backup. I choose to restore old one. then problems started.
- I can't use Google Play on the web. It says "there is no phone connected to this google account"
- none of my notifications are working. and i assume it is about android id. (today using Titanium i switched to new android id but nothing changed)
any guesses?
