Recovering Contact List - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I reset my phone to factory settings. Is it possible to recover my contacts by using ActiveSync?
Does my computer have my contacts? If it has, when I say synchronize will they also be gone?
Thanx in advance,

did you sync them with outlook on youre pc?
did you use the myphone app that comes with the phone??
did you use any other form of backing them up, pim, spb??
if not hhmm you may have lost them

i use a program from www.lookout.com its also anti virus and backs up all your contacts and pictures, music etc

Thanks for replies,
@Demon_man

need help! contact list wont sync after upgrade to new rom!

Please help! im dying without my contacts. this is what happened (typing with my 8525 so bare with me)
I had black satin on my 8525. I have done a couple rom changes and the contact list always resynced automatically everytime.
I had to reformat my computer but I had saved my WM_James_Klafe2 file.
a few days ago I reflashed my 8525 with a new rom and when I synced the phone to the laptop it created a new phone name and folder WM_Owner
when I try to sync contacts through activsync it says I need to disconnect phone, install outlook, run outlook and resync.
I haven't lost anything from reformatting have I? I had a microsoft office 2000 cd but its all scratched and won't install. I downloaded a trial version of student office but it didn't help my situation at all. and I didn't even see outlook in the office student 2007 edition anyway.
in the name of god please help im lost.
just now, with my 8525 disconnected from my laptop. I changed the name on my 8525 from WM_Owner to WM_James_Klafe2 which is what my cell was before and that's the name on the folder on my pc that is holding all my info.
but everytime I connect my cell to my pc via activesync it defults back to WM_Owner.

Try this,
Copy the contents of you sync folder to another folder.
delete the partnership and create a new one.
sync with the new partnership.
then copy all the contents that you saved to that folder.
This worked for me....I sync between two laptops and do this quite often.
Hope that helps.....

still no luck. I tried it and it didn't change anything. still no contacts added to my phone.
I think it has something to do with me not having microsoft outlook installed to my computer but I don't know why it matters. I never used outlook anyway.
on activesync, "contacts" are not one of the "information types" that are sync'ed. On Activesync, when I go to Tools, Options, then try to select Contacts as an item to sync I get a message that says "Activesync cannot synchronize Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes, because outlook is not installed on Windows PC. To Sync Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes do the following: Disconnect the device, Install and run outlook, and then reconnect the device and try again."
I have outlook express on my pc but that doesn't seem to be good enough.

Sorry dude - Contacts are stored within a file called "outlook.pst" on your PC and not in the syncronised folder(there is sometimes a backup file too called backup.pst), this is a file for Microsoft Outlook NOT Outlook express and it usually lives somewhere around c:/docs & settings/<profilename>/local settings/application data/outlook (varies a tad from OS to OS)
If you still have this file or a backup *somewhere* on your PC (use your search facility) and can re-install Outlook - then you will be able to import this file into Outlook and your contacts from the outlook.pst file will resync to your phone.
If you have deleted (or no longer have) this file on your PC - and you have not used something like PIMbackup on your Hermes then sorry - they've gone.
For information - Outlook contacts is a 2-way sync - ie, scrub your phone and it gets them from the PC. Scrub your PC and it gets them from your phone. Scrub both and they're gone for good unless you've made a backup of either one or the other. Same goes for email, calendar and tasks.

To fix this you need to go to settings>system>About>device ID. You can change the name of your ppc that way (or you can for the Hermes).
Cheers...
Awsome!

I was having the same problem as TC, but that did the trick. Thanks Ultra!
sorry to invade this topic but i have a similar problem in the reversed form however .
i recently formatted my PC but being the idiot i am, i forgot to backup the *.pst file from the Outlook folder. now i still have all my contacts in my phone, but i wanted to know how to transfer them over to Outlook.
Resync to pc after installing outlook. When it asks if you wish to combine or replace items on pc pick combine. If you pic replace it will replace with all the contacts in outlook (none) and unless you have pim backup or another backup of your contacts you will loose everything...
Cheers...

how to backup contacts prior to upgrade

the only thing i am concerned with losing is my contacts.
how can i back these up prior to upgrading to wm6 and as importantly restore these after
thanks
sync your contacts with outlook using activesync, install the wm6 rom and syncronize them back to your device.
Use "PIMBackup 2.8",it'll backup your contacts and mssgs to your pc and restore it to the phone after upgrade. You can get it from here :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
+1 on the outlook Ive never used Pim backup but if you dont want to go through installing another program on the phone, just check the box when you sync it will sync them and you can edit in outlook and re-sync to phone.
thanks guys didnt realise that sync saved the numbers too

[Q] Remove ActiveSync profiles?

Have a HD2 which appears to have been setup for the same Exchange e-mail account twice, by the looks of it once using WMDC but not fully removed and not in partnership with any PC anymore and the other setup on the device. Is there any way to remove both of these activesync Exchange accounts to start again as they are causing issues with each other like duplicating contacts etc. and having to manually sync the one that does work for e-mail.
Would ideally like to do this without hard resetting the device but can't figure out a way to remove an account in Windows Mobile - am too used to the Accounts & Sync options in Android
Thanks in advance.

It can be done on device in ActiveSync: Menu / Options / then remove any or each of the accounts. BUT most probably it will also remove all the PIM data from your device
it can also be done manually (no harm to PIM data) by removing all registry entries under the keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Partners
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners
Thanks for this, I remember trying to remove them in ActiveSync but the delete option was greyed out at the time
I will have another go and make sure I wasn't in the wrong bit and if not I will try the registry option. Cheers
I had the problem with active synch but i uninstalled it and then re-installed. Worked for me

[Q] Transfer Stuff from WM 6.5 to WP7

Hello,
before i will flash the WP7 image (many thanks to Nokser!) to my TG01 i want to be certain, that all my contacts and messages can be transferred to the new OS. Is there a method/program like "pimbackup" to do this without an windows live id? I don`t want to upload all my contacts to the internet!

i think a prog no exist, you need a windows live id to sync your contacts. if your contacts are as .csv you can import it really easy (but only if lower as 500 contacts)
I used thunderbird backup, when I moved my contacts to my android phone.
use live services... they are 100% secure and stable.

android yes is no problem- you can directly import the whole .cvs database from SD Card- i do it with my Samsung Galaxy Tab (and i have over 1200 contacts ).
but wp7 and Microsoft is a little speciall
Okay. By Windows Live i only can sync my contacts, not my messages, right?

jop! only your contacts
thats very disappointing! When i have a little bit time i will try it with outlook.
In ActiveSync there is an option to transfer "emails". Maybe, this also means messages. i will report.
I now syncronized my contacts with outlook. So i could put them on the TG01 WP7 Phone. To backup the short messages and transfer them to WP7 actually there's no way. In the past you could do it with Windows MyPhone but this service is gone. Now with SkyDrive it won't work.
I would also prefer a "non-cloud" solution. If someone has a solution to transfer the messages, please help me!
I think it's a shame for Microsoft, not to provide this possibility!

every time you will sync
it will back up your contacts
so sync only one time after deleting extra contacts
That's what I did, but

All I did was the following:
1, Delete all my smartphone contacts (after backupping)
2. Set my MyPhoneExplorer to run unilateral sync of contacts, from MS Outlook to phone
When the run ended, only 50 contacts were written on my LG G2.

What I did was:
1. Backup all my contacts (around 3000) from my smartphone to a cloud service (Avast)
2. Delete all my contacts on my smartphone
3. Connect my LG G2 via USB to my windows 7 pc.
4. Set my MyPhoneExplorer to run unilateral sync of contacts, from MS Outlook to phone
5. Start MyPhoneExplorer
6. Run a sysn
All I got at the end of the synce session were 50 contacts.
What's wrong?
