to make backup sms, contacts, and appointments you can use PimBackup

1. can this be done - xda allows manage folders to select folder for syncing but then it does not work through to outlook win CE inbpx transfer in outlook does not seem to be able to allow manual transfer of messages
Q - how do you store received and sent SMS? possible
2. have run the sms fix - seems fine when first receive sms but when you review the sms messages in received folder it nows shows phone numbers rather than contact name - have i installed badly or does it only show linked contact name when first received?
The outlook ce transfer doesn't work with sms unfortunately. I have been trying ways to export sms and its all linked to a hidden databases folder that you can't seem to access.
Outlook and active sync, etc only deal with email related messages. I assume this is fixed at the outlook end rather than the xda end. But doubt much will be done.
Sms fix for me displays the name within my inbox, but only on messages recieved since the update occured, previous messages were unaffected, as expected. If your device doesn't show the name of received texts i'd say try to reinstall.

thanks pete2you - shame but i agree - more things that could make xda good
ie link an appoinment with a contact - ie make xda more integrated like outlook. we live in hope
cheers

Hi all,
I recently bought a XDA and i'd like to transfer all my SMS from my old SX45 to XDA...but.. HOW???
There is any way to move SMS from SMS Account to Active Sync Inbox?
Or how can I backup sms db from SX45 and restore it on XDA?

So I currently use PIMBackup to backup contacts/call logs/messages etc every time I reflash.
My question is...is there anything out there that will backup my email accounts and settings too? Currently, if I use PIMBackup and backup my email messages from all 5 of my email accounts, when I go to restore them with PIMBackup afterward, it errors out because the email accounts are not set up yet. So, in order for it to work, I have to create all the accounts again, then restore the messages.
Any ideas?

Sign up for their free push email and never have to use pimbackup ever again. It'll sync contacts, calendar, tasks and email on a push basis. You can use m2w as aggregator for your 5 email accounts.
Or, use IMAP and just leave the data on the server...

You can also use Sprite Backup and it will do the same as PIM backup and restore your message accounts and messages. You can also restore OS and programs or merge Roms and programs at varying levels. Downside I have noticed is the average backup file is like 30mb each, but is self loading and even if you dont have the program on the phone, it will extract and be fully functional just with backup file.
I want to do a factory reset so my data works so can someone tell me a easy way to backup my contacts and sms
And if i remember right the market kind of backs up my apps, but if i am wrong please tell me
Not sure about SMS, but Gmail and Verizons Backup Assistant both can backup your contacts.

the backup assistant gives me an error about not connecting to server, and how do i use gmail for it?
There are apps for backing up texts. They all have generic names like SMS backup. I've used them a few times then realized I don't really need to save my texts. Your contacts should be synced to your GMAIL account though.

When you are at the start-up screen it will ask if you are a new user or have an existing Google account. Once you sign in it will start syncronizing your mail and contacts.
When you make contacts on your phone, you are given a option to make a phone contact or google.contact. always choose google contact. Check options>accounts and sync, make sure all is set to sync, which it is defaulted to sync on its own...doesnt hurt to check.
But when you wipe your phone or get a different android phone, during the setup process you enter your gmail info to setup your phone. Your gmail will sync, you can browse the market...but the best part is that the calander and google contacts will auto download.
So log on to your computer and check gmail and see if your contacts are there, then you should be set
easiest thing to do, and I am amazed noone has mentioned it, is to use an app called MyBackup Root.
You can backup call log, SMS, MMS, Contacts(if you have ones google doesn't save for you), apps, and app data.
I have always preferred this to Titanium Backup
ok, got it all backed up, but where is that factor reset option, i cant find it anywhere but i know i saw it earlier.
I'm on Project Fi and want to move from Hangouts to Messages but want to keep my SMS history. How can I do that?
I already tried an app called something like SMS Backup + that synced it with GMail but the restore option didn't restore any SMS on to Messages.
Thanks.
