Proximity sensor problem - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My hd2 proximity sensor is not working (or i think so at least). When i bring my phone near my ear while phoning it's not turning the screen off. I tryed it with my finger too (the sensor is located left of the speaker) and again nothing happened. Is there a registry tweak or anything to re-activate it?
I searched the settings and i couldnt find it.

I have quite an issue with mie too but not exaclty the same.
i posted but no one seems to have an answer.
When I dial out a call and take the phone to my ear, the screen turns off ok, but when the person takes the call, the screen turns back on. I have to take the phone away frome my ear and bring it back to be sure the screen turns off again.

I know it's not what you've asked for, but maybe this app can help you decide whether your sensor works or not.

At the bottom you'll see how many lumens your sensor is detecting.
Goodluck,
Fred

thanks, i'll have a look

Hi,
i didn't had this problem with my old 2.07 radio.
The same problem came with the 2.14.
Right now installed 2.15 and the problem is gone.
I use artemis 37 and cht 2.0.

Phone screen turns off.....

Ok... I apolagize in advance if this has been muted before, but I really dont know what to search for.
My problem is, that when i make a call the screen turns off, ( As it should ) but when Im asked to tap in an extention number or 'press 1' etc I cant turn the screen back on, all the soft keys light up but the screen refuses to come back on untill I end the call.
If I dial in the number and the screen goes blank on connection, some times im able to turn on the screen if I move quickly enough and press the sta key.
Im running a htc hd2 with an the latest energy rom.
ditto
have the same problem, would love to find a solution...
Same problem here so I D/Ld Phonex from Iconsoft. Really like this a lot better and is so much more user friendly.
I'm not sure if you're having the same problem I was, but it sounds very similar...
What I discovered is that at the upper left of my screen protector, there are two round cutouts for the proximity sensor. The screen protector has never adhered very well at this point, and it was pulled away from the glass, causing the phone to belive that it was constantly near a face, and blacking out the screen.
I discovered this after being so frustrated that I removed the screen protector, and *voila!* the telephone worked as advertised. I used a hair dryer to warm the screen protector to re-adhere it, and the phone still works properly, but I don't know for how long.
I understand that there is a registry setting to disable the proximity function for the phone, but I haven't gone to this length.
I hope this helped!
I had the same problem till i change te Radio version to 2.10 or above then it disappeared
I have the same problem, screen protector causes this problem for me....

[Q] light sensor broken?

Hi guys,
Ill start with saying that my english is veryy bad
But my problem is:
I quess my light sensor on my hd2 is almost defect.
why?
When i start a call (or got an incoming call) the screen turns black
(as its suppose to be when you hold it to your ear)
But it turns black all the time, no matter how i hold it.
So i did a quick test, i called a number, and took a very bright light (100w) just next to the sensor. and after that, it doenst turn black for the first time!
So the sensor isnt working correctly anymore?
It is since my telephone has gone back to the shop for a new screen.
Can i make it better with software? Cause it works.. But only with a very bright light.... Or do i need to get back to the shop?
thnx
try a soft reboot and then if needed a hard reboot/factory reset. don't forget to back up the phone first as it wipes the phone
Sorry, i was forgotten to say:
Ive tried different roms, and even Android. Results are always the same!
That is an odd problem. Especially since the ambient light sensor is not what is used to black out the screen during calls. That would be the proximity sensor.
If you look very carefully just to the left of the speaker at the top of the phone you will see the proximity sensor. Do you have a case on your phone that may be blocking/interfering with this sensor? Do you hold your phone in a way that your fingers or hand may be close to this sensor?
Another thing to try is put the call on speaker phone, this should disable the proximity sensor and keep the screen on. If it does not then you may potentially have a hardware issue.
I haven't got something blocking the sensor. But because my screen was broken, they placed another one. (And since then it happend)
Ok, i did some tests..
I cleaned the screen very proper. And i was sure there was no spat of dust or whatever. so i called again.. And it worked properly!
But.. When i put my finger on the sensor.. (So its not 100% clean anymore) it turns black again. So its veeeeery sensitive..
When i turn on the speaker.. It doesnt turn black..
So conclusion:
It turns back way to fast. Only when the screen is 100% clean, and there is enough light in the room.. It works properly..
Aren't there any settings for windows or android to change the sensitivity? Cause this is very annoying..

Not that I'm aware of. It sounds like they didn't do a proper job of replacing the screen. The ammount of light in the room should have no impact on the screen turning on/off. Also, my screen is often quite filthy and I've never had that trip the proximity sensor. It is possible that the sensor was moved or misaligned during the repair.

[Q] Proximity Sensor settings too high?

Hi everyone,
funny thing happened to my Mozart. Whenever I make a call the screen shuts off like it should, but it doesn't turn on again when i remove it from my ear until the call has ended.
Which works fine if the other person hangs up, but it means I can't hang up. Whenever I reach a voicemail i have to take out the battery to hang up!
First i thought it was a rom issue, i had just gotten my hands on the mango beta when i first noticed it. I thought it might be buggy.
But the problem remains after hard reset and flashing with a different rom (pre-nodo & nodo).
I found out that the sensor still works. The screen is reactivated when i shine a bright light (halogen spot or so) onto it - but only for as long as the source shines onto the sensor, else the screen shuts off again. wierdly enough, direct sunlight doesnt seem to be enough to trigger it anymore.
since i upgraded my phone with a 32GB microSD I guess I'm not eligible for warranty, huh? but im pretty sure it happen long after and i didn't accidently break something while opening the phone.
very weird... any ideas?
I had this problem on the weekend.
I removed the matt screenGUARD, and the problem disapeared.
Also you can reactivate the screen by pressing the on/off button...
thanks for your comments.
unfortunately, I don't use a screen protector and the standby-button doesn't work during a call
I have this problem also, with stock 7392 rom. The sensor seems to work when dialing, but stops a short time after a call is connected.
The power button works for me to turn the screen back on however...
Where is the proximity sensor ?
where on the device is the proximity sensor located?
I have been having difficulty with the screen not switching on during phonecalls and I have to remove battery to end outgoing calls. Pressing the power button doesn't help either. I don't have a screenguard to remove.
The problem started not long after, but not immediately after my daughter dropped the phone down the toilet. It took a few days for the phone to gently dry out and it worked again except for some residual water between the screen and the glass.

The sensor is about 1 cm to the top and right of the htc logo. It's barely visible and it is dark violet. (Or something like that, I am not very good at naming colours.)
Anyway, I sometimes also experience problems with sensitivity with HTC Mozart, mostly during calls, especially when the proximity sensor has been activated. Sometimes the home button freezes after a call... It's a bit annoying.

[Q] problems after touch screen replacement

Hi all,
I have a probleme and i dont know how to resolve it!
i've replaced the digitizer of my htc aria, after that, everything seemed to working fines, but when i want to make a call, the screen shut down, and the screen and button are not responding anymore!! the only way to turn it on again is to receive a call.... it's very strange i know... and if the person that i call respond i hear it and i can hear if someone call me...
any ideas??
There is a photo sensor in the top right corner. When you installed the new screen that photo sensor got covered up. The phone thinks you're holding it to your face so it blanks out. Try pressing on the top right corner momentarily.
There are only 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary math, and those who don't.

Proximity sensor .
sensors/digitizers/ speaker
whats the solution? I uncovered the sensor but the screen still goes black during a call and doesn't change unless the call is somehow ended. Also, now that i have changed my digitizer the speaker doesn't work unless I squeeze the top of the phone. any solutions?
My solution? HTC Vivid.
You can't know your limits until you exceed them.

Same story here - cheap digitizer off ebay
this is nothing to do with the digitizer itself. You've probably hadn't returned the rubber gasket on the proximity sensor during replacement. search for threads on this in this forum.

My screen started being always off during calls regardless of rom

Another thread about this stupid sensor.
My screen goes black when I call or answer a call. If I use a headset sometimes randomly the screen comes on or stays on when I answer a call.
The proximity sensor is working. Looking in *#*#7378423#*#* > Service tests > Ambient Light Sensor.
Putting it to a lamp gives a value of 10.0 and putting my finger over the sensor gives 0.0 .
So its working.
This seems to not be rom related if not for the change after Android 4.4. I flashed roms from cm-12.1-20161016-NIGHTLY-togari.zip, AOSP_N_161207_togari.zip and now I am on hybrid_concept_edition_2.0.zip.
I do have a screen protector on. But with a hole for the sensor. Its not dirty in that area. And the sensor worked fine way before I installed it.
This started happening during the last two months or so.
I tried numerus of apps from play store. None did anything. Of course I could force the screen to be on. But with the risk of pushing some buttons when I'm in a call.
My temporary fix so far has been to enable end call with power button
Do you have any idea what to do?
Thank you
I'm facing this same problem, I'm on stock.

yup.. I had mine apart today. But you need to remove the battery in order to flip the motherboard around to get to the connector.
I don't have time for that. Perhaps the battery will explode if I try to remove it..
So I cut a piece of foam plastic to fit around the usb connector so there is a constant pressure applied to the motherboard when screwed down the NFC antenna because there is a screw just around this area that sets the NFC antenna in place.
Hang on. I just made a call just for the sake of it that you answered to my thread and it freakin works!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the idea from this guy/gal: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...olution-proximity-sensor-fix-z-ultra-t3595525
