Hey everyone i am having a serious problem, i have a hardware problem with my evo and i am in need to unroot and send my phone back to sprint. but everytime i try with the RUU.exe files it says either that the it is the wrong version or it keeps failing to connect. I was wondering if there is a better way to unroot or alternate way to unroot. By the way i had to root using the 1.47.651.1 method since my phone was updated without me finding about all this.

Hey guys, I followed one of the tutorials on how to unroot your EVO 3D and bring it back to stock. Before I unrooted my phone, I kept getting a notification that an OTA update was available, specifically version 2.08.651.2 (August 18, 2011). Right now, my software number is 1.11.651.2. I want to update to the newer version, but when I go to Settings > System updates > HTC software update > Check now, it shows no updates are available. I've tried rebooting the phone and checking repeatedly. I'm kinda lost here and not sure what to do. I was wondering if the PG86IMG I downloaded to return to stock disabled OTA updates, but I highly doubt that since it's just a stock image. If I could find a download link to the updates, I could apply them manually through the bootloader. If not, I might suck it up and take my phone into Sprint and get them to see what's up and update my phone there. Either way, what do you think I should do? I want it updated though. Thanks in advance.
so u unrooted using the approved method and then tried to update to 2.3.4 via HTC but it would'nt find the update? Just wanna make sure u know that if u take this update ur only option is to root via HTC's unlocked bootloader which isn't a true unlock... secondly if that is ur desire and the stock image won't find the update then i would check ur source and make sure it's not missing something. I turned off my update check cuz once it checks and finds an update that little icon stays in ur taskbar unless u factory reset and i was waiting to root with teamwin's method so i didn't take the update. if i knew how to pull the image without updating id post it for ya...
Yes sir! I understand that updating my software to version 2.8.651.2 will prevent my phone from being rootable until somebody figures out a method to make it rootable. I have no need for rooting my phone actually. I tried out a few roms, and I would rather stick with a stock unrooted rom in case I ever need to take my phone into Sprint for service. The Sprint store where I live won't do any service to a rooted phone, so I need to be on the safe side. I went to the store today, and unfortunately the only people available at the time were sales representatives, so they were of no help. They just told me to wait and keep trying to update the phone periodically. If it doesn't show any updates within the next month, my only choices will be to either call Sprint and see if they can push the update to my phone or find an update image, transfer it to my phone, and manually update it through the bootloader. I also read on an EVO 4G thread that the phone won't update if it's missing SprintUpdater.apk. I doubt a stock rom would be missing that app though. I had the update notification when I was rooted, but I didn't download it because it would break my root, and now that I'm completely back to stock, I should get the notification. What gives? I wish Sprint would send out the updates all at once instead of in waves. Anybody wanna chime in?

Having the same problem. But i havent tried unrooting the phone.
I just unrooted my evo 3d and got s on. I am now unable to get the ota's. It says software up to date. I've done a hard reset and still same issue. I want my phone to be completely stock and up to date. I've followed the the guide to achieve s on. What has to be done to recieve ota's again?
You have 2 options either take to a Sprint store and tell them your phone will not update and they will manually update it for you or find an unaltered manual update here in the forums add it to your SD card rename it PG86IMG.ZIP and boot in to the bootloader. When asked to update select yes. Look for 1.3**** Update, not 2.****. I recently had to do this my self so I can take in a phone due to hardware problems.
And if you have any problems finding the file send me a PM ill see what I can do about sending you the file.

Alright, so over the last few weeks my phone has developed touchscreen issues, with large parts of the screen now not registering touches. The phone is very close to unusable and I plan to have it exchanged on warranty. HOWEVER, I was rooted back on Froyo (I lost root access with the Gingerbread update) and now I'm stuck with Superuser as a system app (unremovable). I need root access to remove SU, but I haven't been able to find whether or not rooting via .zip flash is reversible or not. I need an answer on whether or not it is, and if so, how.
Also, I'm not simply flashing back to stock because I've heard rumors that the phone keeps track of how many flashes it recieves. How credible is this?
Thanks for any help!

it is reversable download root uninstaller from the market if you are worried about it. me personally i have returned about 4 rooted phones ony to have them fixed and updated when sent back.
dont worry about it, its not unlocked so no harm done
I have an LG spectrum and I want to root it very badly. However, with an android 4.0 update in the near future, I am afraid that rooting my phone will not allow me to get ice cream sandwich in about a month or so.
I am planning on rooting manually, using an article I found.
Before I root though, I would like to know if I can (or need to) unroot in order to receive an OTA update to android 4.0 from verizon or if I need to take my phone in to get fixed for any reason. Any input is appreciated.

I find it hard to believe that nobody has ever rooted this phone. It's ui is ugly as hell, it's full of bloatware, and it's battery life is awful. Someone help me please? I just need to make sure I can get back to stock if I need to before I root.

Yes, there are several (universal) way to root/unroot ur phone. Just to mention some: superoneclick (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682), or doomlords method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582). Personally, i used the second one, and it was sucessful, so big thanks to him! both of them have an unroot function, so dont be aware, just follow the instructions and wait
Alright thanks I saw both of these in hours of searching but I think I would rather root and unroot manually through command line just so that I know what's going on and how I can fix it if something goes wrong. I figured so far that after I root, I can just make a nandroid backup immediately so that I can always go back to that point and manually uninstall su and superuser and busybox. The only thing I can't figure out to do without somehow obtaining a stock rom is uninstall clockworkmod recovery. If I figure out how to do that I think I can completely undo everything and go back to stock by flashing my initial recovery, removing su and superuser and busybox, and removing clockworkmod recovery.
So, my questions are:
How do you remove clockworkmod recovery and get the bootloader back to normal?
Am I correct in saying that I can unroot by following the steps I have stated above?

Depends on what rom you have, if it has OTA capabilities then you don't need to unroot, if not then you do. The easiest way to root the lg spectrum is by using mtmichaelson's one click tool, its on android forums
I am attempting to root my SPrint HTC EVO 4g LTE with software version 1.13.651.1 710RD. my hardware version is 0003.
Ok, my phone is currently normal. Normal meaning no Root, no S-OFF, no nothing. its completely factory. I am trying to root it and am stuck because i have questions, and i have scoured this site and the internet and can not find my answers ANYWHERE. Here are my problems...
I am trying to root my device with the one-click-root that i found on this site. Before rooting, it tells me to back up my device with Titanium or another method. However... i cannot use Titanium unless my phoone is ROOTED so how is this possible?? How can i possibly back up my phone when im not even rooted yet?
Also, it says to clear my google wallet settings. When i go to google wallet, it says this app is not yet supported on my service or device... how do i clear my google wallet settings if i cant even access them? Ive looked on other sites telling me to change my phone into thinking its another device but it all requires a ROOT!!
Please help, ive been so frustrated that i want to just chuck my phone at the wall.
I managed to install all the drivers required to connect my phone and my computer.
All im asking is how do i back up my phone without a root and how do i clear my google wallet settings without a root?
1) I think Titanium Backup actually does allow for backing up some stuff without root access now. Otherwise just bite the bullet and start fresh. You only have to start fresh once. After that you can backup your apps with Titanium Backup for future events.
2) If you've never setup Google Wallet than you have nothing to clear. You'll be fine.

If GWallet says unsupported and you haven't opened it ever then don't worry about it. There's some new feature with TBackup that let's you backup apps without root. I haven't tried it and idk if it's just with the pro version. If you don't care about backing up anything and can reinstall all your apps later then don't worry about it. You might lose texts that you have sent tho.
Edit: louched beat me to it...
