Is there any way to replace the touch wiz calender with the default android one? The touchwiz one only lets me set one reminder.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Not only that if/when you put in a location in the TouchWiz version and when you click on your appointment it would show you the location. When you click on the location it would bring up navigation. So now my location is kinda useless. Sure its useless unless you use it, but I would put in my Dr address and often I forget which street to turn on so it would navigate me there.
Here are the Google default calendar apks ripped from the N1 CM5 ROM
WARNING: These will replace your touchwiz calendar (the default one) and your phone could become unstable. I have not tested this, and I don't believe anyone else has. Make a nandroid backup before your try this (if you do)
Thanks! I will try it tomorrow when I wake up.
There is a thread on the I9000 board about this
ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735035
Thanks! All these different versions of the phone make it hard to find these already created threads.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731822
It did it on mine following the instructions in that that thread.
It works just fine if you delete the TW calender and provider, ( I used Root Explorer) and then install the N1 version, but you will then loose a few of the Samsung widgets, like daily briefing, There is 1 or 2 more that use the calendar for input on the widget, so basically anything widget linked to the TW calendar will force close once you replace, but I think it is well worth it to have the stock calendar and widget back.
What if you are running something like launcherPro?

I spent at least one day trying to find some apps that give me some very basic and easy functions and seems they doesnt' exist!!!
Just some examples:
- I want that on my homescreen there is a widget where I can see the latest/newest items in my google reader feeds/account.
I downloaded at least 10 different rss readers apps but NO-ONE has a widget that displays 2-3-4 or more lines with the newest titles The most near is a widget that show a 3x1 square with ONE line with the newest items switching between them every few seconds. I missed something? there is something like what I ask?
- I want that on my screen there is a widget where I can see what is appening in my facebook account. The FB for android widget shows only one/last post. The HTC FB widget shows too many things and you cannot use if you are using a non-sense rom or if resized it look really bad. The only alternative I found is the FB widget included in the LauncherPro... but what if I dont like LauncherPro?
- I want that on my homescreen there is a widget showing me my exchange/gmail mailbox: just sender: mail_object. Can be done with a very simple widget in the market for gmail, but not for exchange. To do this I had to pay and install a different mail client (Moxier) that has a widget like this...
I'm just wondering I will start to lear java to start developing my own apps

use any of the android builds that say Sense. HTC Sense on these ROMs have all of the above functionality for your homescreen.

Can I use the HTC sense widget also if I use a different launcher?

As far as I know, as soon as you disable the sense launcher bar and use a different one such as Launcher Pro Plus you lose all the Sense widgets so the answer would be no you cant.
Mark.

Right.. this was what I experienced.
I dont want to use Sense widgets because
1) I setted up my dpi resolution to 180 to have a "bigger" homescreen
2) I use launcherpro plus to have 6 rows x 6 colums on every home to insert more widgets
In this way I just power up my phone from standby and I see:
1) hour and day
2) weather
3) news from my choosen keywords
4) calendar with the upcoming events
5) what is happening in facebook
So my question still remains... we have the market full of useful apps that do anything.. but no app to do really easy things like show on an homescreen some datas...this is incredible for me...
I have to do them by myself
I just enclosed a screenshot of my Home Screen.. I know, is not "cool" but it's working for me and give me all the informations I need at a first look without having to scroll in different homescreens
But could be better if there were some better widgets available
You know what pisses me off, there is not even a reliable alarm clock app for android. All of them may let you down in a very critical time. But it is very good thet we can find 1000+ apps that does nothing!!!

what you means for "non reliable" ?
I mean alarm apps work most of the time but somettimes they do not. It causes you to be late for your schedule. I tried many apps. "Alarm Klock" is doing okay but still it fails to ring sometimes.
Also there are so many apps which only does one single simple thing. It is like you have 2 different apps for volume up and volume down. That fancy android market is empty in reallity.
I've been using Zeam 2.8.8 as my desktop launcher and think it's great for the Nook Touch, simple, fast. I am having a problem when trying to remove large widgets, i.e 4x2, 2x3. I long press the widget and drag it to the trash can, I'm not that stupid, but when it's in the right spot the widget and trash can are supposed to both turn red. Problem is on a grayscale like Nook there is no visiable change in color. Is there an app I can use to remove the widget? I've been looking for an app the past three days but not lucky. I also am using ES File manager which allow sys access. Is the widget listed somewhere in the system files so I can delete it?
Please don't suggest I update to a new OS, it's not possible. The Nook Touch runs on Android 2.1. While people are cooking custom ROMS nothing's out yet.
Maybe you should just try a different launcher
I like GO-Launcher, much better than my original Sense 3.0 for example..

The widget related data is specific to launcher so you can either try new popular launchers like GO launcher, launcher pro, ADW launcher which are prettu stable and user friendly.
Or else if you want to stick to your older launcher then in that case you can clear data for launcher application. (Goto setting - application - manage application and search for your launcher application. Open it and clear data)
sorry I don't know how to remove specifically a single widget from launcher data. By clearing data all user defined shortcuts and widgets will be removed. (Launcher Reset)
Enjoy!!

I like Go Launcher and would use it, in fact that is the launcher included on the Nook Touch rooting file, but when looking in the app drawer the font is too big and I can't see the app name. The funny part is when looking at the recent app tab and close app tab I don't have that problem.
Anybody else upset that it doesn't come with one ? Any suggestions for alternatives?
Really depends on what info you want to see but I use Simple Calendar myself.

I used Simple Calendar in the past. But now I use the Today widget that comes with the phone.
I'm a big fan of the Pure Calendar, it's a pay for app.
i really like the LauncherPro calendar widget...
I like the business calendar widget, can take up a full page on the home screen if you want it to

I went and installed the TouchWiz 4.5 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883 and it works flawlessly. It has the Calendar widget as well as some really cool features not found in TW4. I highly recommend this for someone wanting a near stock TW experience with some really functional tweaks.

+1 for the business calendar widget, or there is also android agenda widget, which is pretty customizable, and will also scroll if the launcher you are using supports that....
If you just want a list of upcoming appointments, Agenda Widget is awesome. Very customizable, though it takes some work to get it just the way you want. In just a 4x1 space on my screen I can see my next 4 appointments, with little bullets next to them telling me which calendar they are from.

Eh? Am I missing some detail about this question? My device has 2 calendar widgets pre-installed: Agenda and Today. Agenda takes up most of a home screen and scrolls to display lots of calendar appts; Today just shows the current/next appt for the current day.
is there really no month view calendar widget for tw launcher that links up with google calendar?
i have tried go launcher ex and the calendar widget on that is perfect, but i want to run tw launcher instead.
i dont want to add agenda or today widget because i want a month view. any suggestions?

This is a list of bloatware removed from the Cognition ROM:
http://ponack.net/designgears/Cognition777/removed/
The TwCalendarAppWidget.apk listed there has a month view. I believe it's from the Euro SGS2 version of Touchwi but not sure. Anyway, replace the corresponding app on your phone with the one from the link. Worked for me on UnNamed 1.3.1.
Attachment so you can see what it looks like. Not bad.
thanks!
do you know which folder it goes in?
is is possible to theme?
/system/app
same one as your current TwCalendarAppWidget.apk should be in. It should be possible to theme using all the normal tools, apk manager etc.
EDIT: OK, now you got me curious. I was able to decompile, edit some XML and recompile without problems, so yes, I'd say it definitely is possible to theme it. FWIW, I changed the first day of the week to Sun (normally Mon.). I might do a full flashable mod with different themes and what not. But it will take me at least a week b/c I am busy with stuff. No promises!
EDIT 2: Oh, never mind, my changes were superficial. All I did was change the day of the week label, not the display of the widget. Still a good project. Not sure at this point if it is above my head...
EDIT 3: Ok, now this is just getting embarrassing. Using the apk I linked to, all you have to do it go into the Touchwiz Calendar app, go to preferences, and set your First day of the week preference. Widget should reflect this change, otherwise, delete and re-add widget and it should be there!
I SWORE I tried this before and it didn't work.

Pure Grid Calendar is absolutely gorgeous. I have a month view on my lock screen and a week view 4x4 on one of my homescreens.
It pulls from multiple google calendars and displays duration bars corresponding to your events.
Simply stunning. Hands-down one of my best app purchases.
The only bookmark widget I have is the Samsung one (S Bookmarks) that is a pretty crappy bookmark widget, I am trying to get the stock ICS aosp one working as its much nicer looking and allows you to scroll...
I have taken the browser.apk from FJ's "inverted_app_kit_aosp_widgets.zip" and put it in \system\app and rebooted but I still don't have it showing up in my widgets list?
Is there another part to this that i'm missing?
I am running the Stock UCLE2 leak rom from FJ, I think that somehow the update to Chrome (that now includes a bookmark widget) somehow messed this up, I have uninstalled Chrome and I still can't seem to get that widget back and working...
Just to add to this, its definitively Chrome messing this up, it overwrites the AOSP bookmarks.apk with its own, but even after uninstalling Chrome and flushing Cache and Dalvik and rebooting, I cannot get the AOSP bookmark widget to show back up. The .apk is there it just doesn't show in the widget list anymore.
Anyone know how to refresh or rebuild the items that show in the widgets?

Its bookmark.apk, from AOSP, however once you install Chrome it never worked again unless I flashed a new rom. Chrome just messes it up basically...
This may be a dumb question, so apologies up front. I really like the calendar widget that comes with JB (and ICS) ROMs. In particular, I like the scrolling capability it has within the widget window for agenda view; you can scroll through about a week's worth of appointments without having to go to full screen agenda view. With GB ROMs, the calendar widget doesn't have that functionality; it just shows the next appointment in the window, and to see further out in the week (or even current day), you have to go full screen view.
Is there a way to get the JB calendar widget to work in a GB ROM? Maybe an apk that can be installed?
Thanks for any advice.
Unless you have the source, no
If you had the source, you could replace all the JB specific classes with classes that work with GB
But other than doing that backwards compatibility changing, you cant take an app made for something higher than GB and install it, you'll just get a parsing error because the API for JB supports functions that didnt exist when GB came out
You can use Android Pro Widgets (APW) it's free, it does what you want (on all versions of Android) and it's in the Play Store
