I have recently rooted my 2.1 ota 1.49 hboot. flashed cyantazzv2, OC 806mhz. kevlarfroyo v3.
What I am interested in, is learning more about adb
lehmans terms please.
I used an app off the market, a 1 button push root process, so any adb stuff I had bypassed.
Thanks in advance
Man you're going to get crucified....Google is your friend.
Its how most of us figured it out.
I say this because what you are asking can easily be found and figured out with a simple search on Google.

Yes google is your friend quit being lazy and search. It took me 20 mind of read to learn everythong about adb commands
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
Or hell, type adb into your command line / terminal and it will explain all the commands...
Research the old "how to root" and follow some of the steps (the ones that don't require doing anything to your phone). Download SDK and Java JDK to your computer. Set up the drivers. Now.....Google!
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
But if you rooted your phone than surely you must have used adb so as with any command line protocol ie Linux I always typed "help" and learned a lot just from that so try adb help

Don't be douches and flame this guy for asking more about adb and debugging. Yes it may be in the wrong section of the forums but we're all here for the same reason. Only flamers flame, so don't be a flamer.
Here is a link to the adb commands. If you need more information google it and im sure you will find it. Otherwise you're welcome to PM me or come into the andirc chat that is listed in my signature.

Cause no one bothers to google it or search the forums. How hard is it to do it especially adb commands. I would understand if it was something more complicated but its not.

99% or more of the time, the effort that goes into flaming someone could have been more than enough to answer the question in the first place. I am very technical-minded so I easily get frustrated by some questions, but why actually be so negative when you could give some useful information like Andrew did... a push in the right direction AND a hint to Google for more information without getting on a high horse.
My observations leads me to the simple answer that sometimes we all need reminded of our alternatives. I have almost 30 years technical experience and sometimes I still have to take a step back and realize that I can easily solve something myself by taking a different route.
A lot of people aren't being lazy, they just aren't search gurus, which is an art, not a science. I will also say that most forum's search functions lack the power to really effectively narrow down search results for some things. Now I'm going get of my own soapbox and try to continue being constructive.

Well since no one will actually explain ill put adb into lehmans terms, ADB is the Android Debug Bridge and is part of the Android SDK . It allows a developer to push files to certains parts of the phones memory, boot to the bootloader, enter shell commands, and much more. ADB is simply an interface for a developer to send commands and to test things without opening a terminal on the phone or using an emulator
Thanks Cap.... I truly wanted to know why an how it worked, not just told what to do. You gave me general understanding, I commend you my friend
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
yeah, adb just tells you everything. adb shell is direct access to a terminal that is on phones filesystem
No problem, glad I could help
I recommend downloading root explorer. A lot (not all) of the adb commands do the same thing that root explorer allows you to do. It allows you to open and view, modify, delete, and replace system files. I use it to change my boot animations, delete unwanted system apps, change Verizon (or whatever appears) on the lockscreen to my own personal message, and copy system files (i.e. the rom I'm on now has some sweet ringtones I've never had access to. So I'll copy them to the sd in case I decide to change roms in the future).
Beware....like adb commands, if you change or delete the wrong file you can brick your phone. So, like I said earlier, you still need to do some research.
PM me if you need help and I'll do what I can.

Cab someone direct me to the "one click root"? And maybe even to the downgrade if you can?

There is no "xda endorsed" method to "one click root" because such methods for the thunderbolt are prone to screwing up your phone and leaving the person doing it in a world of headaches (since if they're using such a method, they have no idea how to undo it probably and even less of an idea of how to describe what they did to someone who could help them). The methods that are out there though are just a hacked together automated method of doing what the stickied topic in the development section does manually in steps.
You're better off not rooting if you don't want to try that or wait/pray that someone with time/patience will walk you through that method.

I said endorsed (it's listed in the stickied post for noobs in the development section, but it's not on its own like the manual method) and not prone to errors. Not sure what you didn't understand about it since I never said methods didn't exist and weren't posted. However, that does not mean you're going to see it stickied at the top of the development section and recommended using. Just because it works for you (the time you tried it) doesnt mean doing it isn't gambling with everything being configured correctly and something unexpected not happening outside the scope of what the automation script for rooting can do.

The way you wrote it sounded like you were implying that it wasn't on XDA anymore. I don't really care if it destroys my phone. If it does, ill get a new one or just fix it. even the "1 click" root method for the TBolt requires sdk and adb on the pc. It just automates the scripts for you...
I am porting a rom over from another device. I need testers, as my phone is currently in Chicago. I require the testers to have knowledge of ADB and be able to provide detailed information on errors as well as logcat logs (I can help walk through getting logs via logcat). Also, you must have an understanding of the risk involved and have knowledge on how to restore your phone to working standards.
For more info, express your interest in the section below.
This rom is a port of the Acer Stream User Interface. It will be based on CM 2.3.
What rom?

ADB really doesn't have and minimum system requirements. If you are using the Android emulator, that is a different story though.
Wow that does look nice. What kind of features dies this ROM all include? Wish I could help but I've never used ADB.

None yet, it's just a stock rom from the Acer Liquid Metal. The first step is getting a stable booting rom, then I can worry about adding other things.
holy crap. after watching that video, i may learn ADB just to get my hands on this, lol!
I have basic knowledge of adb. As in showing devices and using it to move stuff into the sd card and what not, but nothing of logcat errors. If you don't mind telling me how to do that, I would love to be your tester. I just need to know if there are any brick warnings dealing with this.
"adb logcat" is pretty much it. I will send you a link to the project page when I get the next release up.

Personally, I always trust the source much more than 3rd party opinions for things such as installation and operation of software. Keep in mind, these are considered developer tools provided by Google. Another words, if you want to properly learn the process, you'll be learning through the eyes of a developer!
Downloading the SDK (where ADB is contained): http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Directions on how to use ADB: http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/adb.html
The next most common issue will be drivers. Windows is notorious for having driver issues with varying Android devices. Somebody else might need to chime in on the best way to get Windows to properly recognize the EVO 3D, such as a proper drivers link. I vaguely remember installing HTC sync in order to get the drivers, then removing HTC sync, as the drivers stayed behind, but this was a long while ago.
Hope that helps!
i will try
thanks joey always been helpfull!

I thought I'd do essential topic for Noobs out there, okay well in here or outside if you're outside.
So these are the essential things you must do after getting your shiny new scratch free powerhouse mobile.
1. Root your mobile
This is essential if you want to learn what your phone can do and believe me it can do loads, I've still not learned everything and already I'm amazed.
2. Download the xda toolkit, I have no link but do a search here. It's like a step by step to rooting and the other things I'll mention.
3. Install directory bind as it will enable you to move some of your apps to your sd micro card if you have bought one and buy one if you haven't it will help.
4. Learn about roms and kernels and visit the developers forum as these are great for modifying your mobile the way you want it, I'm turning mine into a mini entertainment system. It would be great if could modify the other things like the s voice to programme it to say what you wanted it to every time you wanted to do a task and add a sexy woman's voice too.
5. Once you have modified it the way you want and made it your very special friend (okay I'm exaggerating) do a nandroid backup as it will back up the way you have your device and it's quite simple to do.
This is to make sure that if at some point you have to do a factory reset and believe me you will as I had to do one today when this annoying message kept popping up to say something about a Google gapps isn't working so I just gave up and did a full wipe, it doesn't save game sd data but if you've already learned how to use directory bind you won't worry about that.
Oh and install the xda app as it's much easier to to type than using a browser and easier to find your way around this site.
6. Do a search about the things I've talked about as there are step by steps to help you along the way.
I'm sure I've forgotten some things but these are things I've found are essential.
That's all I've learned really so I've run out of numbers.
I'm off now to learn some new things.
Farewell my fellow Noobs.
OP your telling people how YOU like to use your device. All of what you listed is only essential if that's what you want to do. And if you do want to do it, there's guides walking you through all the steps. No need to tell "noobs" what they should be doing. I know users on here that stay stock non-rooted..
OP, I applaud your intent but I am with Coreym on this one.
Any advice to noobs that starts with '1. Root your mobile' is staggeringly misguided and borderline reckless. There are increasing numbers of noobs on this site for whom 'walk in a straight line' would be a challenge.
If you really want to help noobs perhaps your advice would be better rephrased as follows:
Do nothing for now
Read
Keep reading
Read some more
When you think you understand re-read everything to ensure you do understand
Do the thing

Thanks for your well intentioned post.
The posters above you Coreym & Gustopher are right, maybe edit your post with Gustopher suggestions would be sounder advice.
I've had my phone 3 weeks, on the second day I leaned how to root it and I've learned and done everything else.
Found it all pretty straight forward to learn it all and do them, maybe I'm just a quick learner.
Don't know what else there is to learn.

Hi XZU users.
First post here since I moved from the GT N7000 forums.
Just a quick question about achieving root on our devices..........and it isnt "how does I get root".
Maybe someone that is way more intelligent than me can help but............ Every other phone I have used or rooted has been via an exploit found or created by the wonderful people here on XDA. Usually all packed up nice in a trustworthy file, whether it be a handy one click app, a bin file to auto run some adb method or a small auto root windows program.
Why is the only available root at this time via this Chinese websites programme?
Please do not think Im asking for another root method. I understand the complexities involved around android development. Thats why I dont do it.
Just wondering.......
Sent from my C6833 using xda app-developers app
I totally get what you're saying. I was a huge skeptic, and i even talked to Chainfire to see what he though about vRoot (the rooting app in question). He hasn't looked at it, but he doesn't really trust chinese software, and i'm the same. But, i rooted it with vRoot, and i can't say that i've found anything unusual after rooting, and trust me; i've looked -like a mad man.
We have no idea how it works, but it works, so some people have spent a lot of time making this, so it would be kind of weird if it's malicious. If the app pulled info from the device, and didn't root, then it would be a catastrophy.
Im the same.....Just dont trust Chinese software.
Do you think if someone had the skills that the vroot app could be "reversed engineered" as such. Broken down to see what info it takes from our devices.....maybe even see what exploit its running to achieve root?

I did actually try that I found the right tools to decompress and decompile .EXE files, but that was totally chinese to me. I had no idea what i was looking for, or at. We'll need a dev of some sorts to check this one out. You can also install a "tracker" on your computer to see what the app does in real time when it roots your device. There are several free programs that can do this, but i have never used one, so i don't know how complicated it is.
