Forgive me if I'm sounding thick here but I'm a newbie. I have a vodafone locked htc desire and want receive the froyo 2.2 ota now, would I be right in thinking that if I root the phone using the method on xdadev ( I had to remove the link as new )
and then unroot it using this method also listed on xdadev and flashing it with the htc generic stock rom listed in on xdadev
would this then allow me to find the froyo 2.2 ota via the check now on the software udate menu of the phone,
Thanks in advance for any help

Take a look [here] and if you can't find answer to your question post it in Desire Q&A.
As this is not really the right place ask.

you should post questions in the Q & A section...
to answer your ? revolutionary is best way, and you can run a RUU to "un-root", you currently need H-Boot 1.40 or lower to use Revolutionary. Search button here will find Revolutionary and other info needed. There are only 10 or so guides on the subject.

Your question can be answered by reading the "ROLL-UP STICKY THREAD" by Lufc.
It has all the guides/files needed to root.
If you want to root got to HTCDEV.COM. They are very godd in helping you root your phone. Rooted my 3D to the WarmTwoPointThree ROM. Very good in battery usage and quick load time after reboot.
hello, i just bought my tp today, for the last week or so i have been searching the forums for info on it. right now i would like to install classicnerds butta rom. however, i cannot find a single tutorial on how to install it, there are plenty for the others roms but even the ones on youtube refer to a much older version the the current. if anyone can link me to a guide i would be very gratefull.
You can follow the guides in my signature. You just replace the CyanogenMod ROM with the Classicnerd Butta ROM and you should be good to go. Double check to make sure that you are using ACMEInstaller2 instead of ACMEInstaller during the install. In the future if you require help you should take closure looks at the different sub forums for your device, especially the stickies, otherwise you may find it hard pressed for replies as the information you seek is actually quite easy to find.

I have been lurking this forum for about a month now and decided to post and get some help....
I have just a few questions
questions
If I use toolkit V4.0, does it come will all the files needed to flash/root my device?
If not what files do I need....and could someone link me please...
Do I lose my text/sms/contact data?
Is there a safe way of rooting without loosing all my data?
do I have to install the drivers that come with the toolkit for it to work? or can I just have the phones default drivers to let it work?

No you dont loose anything with rooting your device. Only when flashing a new custom rom
Use Odin to flash cf root

I just followed these steps:

Worked for the latest updates too.
Very easy to do and all files included.
Hi,
I have an Atrix that I bought in China, it is a Korean device from what I can tell, branded Tworld (?)
Anyway, I am currently working in China and bought it here and it is unlocked and rooted. And it is running Froyo. I have wanted to at least update it to Gingerbread but the threads with the ROMs are not easy for non-experts and mostly seem designed for ATT models. I never checked for OTA update because I figured it is some kind of hybrid that is not supported by any carrier or anything. Just today I checked and it says there is an update, but I am not sure if it will upgrade to GB and if so, will I lose the root? I took some screenshots, that I hope can be displayed. Should I accept this update?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance
