not sure if this belongs here but i bought a tmobile 3g streak and i love it so far. it's running firmware 1.6 baseband gausb1a111100-aws with kernel 2.6.29-perf build number 6267. my question is that i see everyone talking about build number 4917 and i was wondering if i'm running an updated version since i can't install this build.
another question is all my mms come in small, i've tried changing the settings to no avail. if i send them using a diff sms program , chomp, they go out at decent size but return small so i'm guessing the ua string is what i have to change but i;m not sure how to do that. any suggestions.
ps dell streak rocks!
explain to us how you happened to get a "t-mobile version" of the streak, when it hasn't even been released yet in the usa. and the uk one doesn't support t-mobile 3g either, i could be wrong there. Just curious.
Please can you clarify if you are in the US or UK
In UK the streak is exclusive to O2 and direct buy from Dell which is unlocked.
So how did you manage to pick one up with T-Mobile???
Yup, thought tmobile wasnt supported on streak

For those of you who didn't know... Dell did have T-Mobile 3G USA versions of the device in beta testing along with AT&T 3G compatible devices.
There were a few of them on eBay at one point. All gone now though...

he's right, i bought mine on ebay and made absolutely sure it would work with tmobiles 3g bands before the purchase. since it works with tmobile on this side of the pond i'm guessing it's a us version.
if someone can tell me how to get a copy of the build i can upload it. i have not yet rooted but will soon. also any ideas why i get the small mms downloads??
thanks guys.
also, i put up screenshots on this other forum of the firmware and such. here's the link

I can attest to this as I bought one locally thinking it was an AT&T beta but turns out it was a T-Mobile test unit. I sold it to another local buyer who is on WIND Mobile in Canada which also runs on 1700/2100 UMTS/AWS. We tested it with his sim card and it worked perfectly fine including 3G data.

hi,
planning on buying an unlocked version from Dell direct once the firmware update is out. Was wondering on your t-mobile streak, do you get the H icon for HSDPA?
What data speeds are you getting? and is your MMS working ok?
thanks.
In avg I get 2000 down and 700 up, not bad id say. My mms works but the pictures come in very small about 5kb in size. Very frustrating. If anyone has any suggestions if greatly appreciate it.
Ps I'm in chicago

In chicago also, the same for me...I have worked on trying to get bigger MMS, but no luck so far. I remember we had the same problem with the HD2 EU version when it came out. I have tried some of the things i learned from that. I am sure there will be a solution soon.

having the small mms problem always happen to me when i get a phone from the uk and use it on tmobile. it's such a pain in the ass. what does it matter what the ua string or whatever is as. almost all phones nowadays are able to get pics way bigger than 5kb which is why it was imposed on from the beginning. really annoyed at tmobiles stupidity. great service but stupid mms issues.

it's worked on 2G, when I turned 3G on, can only make phone calls but cannot receive any and the R is on.

Did you follow the original instructions to re-put the sim in an unlocked phone with all data and 3g turned off? The rebelsim only communicates with the phone to trick it into thinking it has the correct sim, apps shouldn't interfere at all?? There was a problem with the old v1.1 due to the baseband being incompatible which caused no 3g/data and some call problems (same problem now when upgrading to 2.2). I'm waiting for my programmer to arrive then i will try it out

I dont think you can coz theres no UI or anything to check, i would run the update and try coz if it isnt 1.3 then you can always easily update the rebelsim after froyo using v1.2 doesnt interfere it just doesnt work

Strange stuff here!!! Long story short, I got an O2 locked 2.1 (6941) Streak. It was working perfectly fine with my Rebel SIM. Voice, 3G, everything. I upgraded to DJ Steve's 1.1.x, official Froyo and then to 1.1.4. As expected, the Rebel SIM stopped working with the start of these upgrades.
A couple of days ago, I put my non-O2 SIM in an old unlocked 2G phone. Made a few calls, sent a couple of messages and left it at that. A few hours later, I put the SIM along with the Rebel SIM in my O2 (Now on official 2.2) and I had a working signal!! I could only make calls and send messages. Couldn't receive any. No data either. No 2G, forget about 3G! Figured it was expected, and left it at that.
Upgraded to 1.1.4 yesterday. After resetting and rebooting and everything, I put the non-O2 SIM + RebelSIM back into the Streak. The non-O2 SIM had been in an unlocked phone for a while before this. As expected, I got a signal. Just for the heck of it, I put the APN settings again. They had gone after the reset and upgrade. Turned off wifi, and I've got working 3G!!!! Of course, if I loose the signal or reboot, I loose signal and don't get it back till I do a SIM shuffle, but the point is, it's working!! Getting some good speeds via 3G, so I know it's definitely working!
This gives me hope that the 1.3 firmware for the RebelSIM might give us a proper working connection. Yeah, my RebelSIM isn't on 1.3 beta! It's probably still on 1.2 like when I first got it! Going to order a Rebel SIM programmer now!

I used a Gemalto Twin (or something like that) usb programmer.
I've updated rebelsimcard II to 1.3 beta firmware. Unlock doesn't work as it should. I can call from the phone and send sms, but nobody can call me and I cant receive any sms message.
Network strenge icon showing R - roaming. I've also tried update on universalsim card with rebelsim update - same result.
Summary:
~update doesn't work good
~R icon showing roaming
~can't receive calls and sms messages
So has anybody some informations about next rebel update?

My goodness...what a nightmare!
*bought a veho multi sim reader and after many hours trying, found out it definitely wont work. Cost £16.99
*ordered a sm 3320 (official programmer) after watching umpteen youtube clips updated to v1.3 cost £15
*for the life of me I could not get 3g once on 2.2 official or 1.4.5 I read endless threads everywhere for tips to try and hours trying! Resulting in not only "R" but some kind of testing mode (APN settings) which were impossible to work around! cost £0 (sanity is priceless)
*just sent streak off to rebelsim postal unlock service £44.99 but you get £10 discount if you send your rebelsim aswell. I figured that the best option before I ended up paying to fix a broken streak and window in the near future! ;-)
Ordered last night and sent it special delivery today...
Will keep you posted (at least i have my old xperia x10i till its back)

Hi I just bought a brand new aws (tmobile band) streak off ebay. I love the phone but was trying to find info about the build and have had no luck. I know the aws streak has been talked about here a lot but, there's not much info on the phone/ builds.
SO:
what is this build and how is it different from other common builds.
Will something like dj steves rom work on this phone
Whats different about the aws phone in general.
I did not put the 2.2 update on the phone I'm guessing the seller did before I bought it. But it is a new phone or at least a very good refurb. all the acc, were wrapped up like stock. screen had the dell screen protector.
Thanks
im not sure of the build since im a streak/android noob too, just got mine a week or so ago
as for an aws version of the streak, i dont think there is such thing is there? i believe 1700=aws and there is no version of the streak with that 3g frequency, so unless you are refering to 2g/gsm having the 1700 frequency then im not sure what you are refering to.

There is a 1700 / 2100 version, and I have it. I get 3g &H on T-Mobile. Search aws streak there is info on them. But they are very rare and hard to find. And I don't think people with them want to part with them.
you must be referring to the beta units then, i think i heard of them because the were doing field testing in some part of the world that had aws as well
Yes, I believe that this is what the phone is, But it was never used, I looked on ebay for a few months until one showed up. I even thought about switching to at&t to get a streak. but I did finally find one and even better it was brand new. I paid a little over 400 but its all the phone I ever wanted. I have had a lot of android phones over the past two years,(hd2 android, x10i, nexus, cliq, mytouch) I have had android from day one with the g1, and have always wanted a bigger screen. And this is the biggest "phone" you can get I dont think I'm going to switch for a long time.
compared to hd2
how was the data connection compared to the hd2?
everything can be viewed in the official web , or search it in the web. it seems few people get to know the answer thoroughly.
good luck
Can i ask u guy which one is better for us in malaysia n singapore to flash aussie sbf telstra or stick to at&t becouse atrix are not sold in our country.at&t working fine here but are there any differ if flash to telstra sbf?
I'm running AT&T SBF in Singapore, working just fine. The only thing I dislike is that the mobile hotspot does not work - it is trying to check my AT&T subscription and won't enable it if that does not check out; which obviously it does not. But then again, there are a few free alternatives in the market for mobile hotspot, so no real problem.
Not sure if the Ozzie SBF is less restrictive, but you can give it a shot.
Btw, heard rumor that the Atrix is going to be sold in Singapore soon, possibly this month or next.
can i use an unlocked at&t atrix in the philippines?
and can it be upgraded to GB in the philippines?
im new here.. tnx..

No, 3G will not work. Edge however, should.

thanks man! appreciate it.. i know that the atrix have quadband for gsm which supports 900/1800 here in the phils and for the 3G, the band here is 2100, why it wont work? ... and other than updating manually, can i update it via wi-fi?
The 2100 band is the problem. AT&T Atrix doesn't support that band.
I don't think the OTA works using wifi but you can download the stock update using wifi and apply it.
CORRECTION: it does support the 2100 3G frequency. I didn't understand the whole WCDMA vs GSM thing correctly
i have read some old reviews when it is still in Froyo and there are a lot of complaints about the laggy pinch to zoom of Atrix.. how is the pinch to zoom of pictures in Atrix GB?
I have not experienced any problems. The zoom is very responsive
well i just hope someone who bought an unlocked at&t Atrix from the US and used it here in the Philippines would post their experience about the phone. i have read from different sites and forums that they have complaints about Atrix connectivity like wi-fi and bluetooth in different countries.
it's just too bad only few people here in the Philippines use Atrix.
I used my phone in the philippines. I was able to get internet on it. Not sure it was 3g but it was the h+ symbol on both smart and globe. I went to their offices to help set it up. Just remember, most places won't have 3g yet especially those place that don't support smartbro or globe broadband which uses the 3g signal I believe. Just ask for help there.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use the same standards around the world. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those complaints.
The issue with GSM coverage is that the phone must support the frequency bands for the local carrier's equipment, and the carrier must support the specific GSM standards (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSUPA, LTE, etc.) that the phone is capable of. The Atrix 4G does indeed support 2100 MHz but as other folks have noted in this thread, the main carriers in the Phils (Smart and Globe) don't support HSPA+.

im quite confused about that 3G thing.. your post was right.. Philippines do not belong to the list of HSUPA networks.. but when I viewed the list of HSDPA networks, Philippines was there.. (i could not share the link for the meantime, 3 more posts needed).. this got me really confused.. im afraid i cannot use internet services by ISP.. maybe wi-fi only..

I'd be interested to see your link, but if it came from the same site as the one where folks think that wi-fi and BT won't work in the Phils. then again, I wouldn't put much stock in that claim. HSPA upgrades aren't cheap and with 1 Peso per minute calling plans I don't think the carriers there have much of an upgrade budget. (My wife is a Filipina and has had GSM phones here in the states ever since AT&T has been selling them.)

No problem with the questions.
I don't recall if my Atrix had an option for SMS delivery reports prior to me applying the OTA update to GB. I don't see that option now, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. In any event that sounds like a feature of the Android OS (if it actually exists). So if it's lacking (or present ) on other Android phones then I would expect the same for the Atrix.
thanks andy for the informative replies. Im quite relieved now after i have read the previous post by mamoranto.
because i have have had 5 GSM phones from the states which came from different carriers and i have no idea on their specific details (because mostly are gifts), out of the 5 phones only 2 phones are used for "all around, daily purposes" because here in the philippines, texting is the number purpose of a phone. does the Atrix have sent items/messages stored after you send an sms?
sorry for my noobish questions.

Well I stand corrected.
The "Globe Telecom" page on Wikipedia claims both 3G and HSDPA support on their networks. Apparently they've just begun rolling out WiMAX in Metro Manila and points south as well. This page reads like marketing copy, so I assume this info comes straight from Globe.
Dang...wish I was in the Philippines again!

I think *every* phone in the Phils originally came from the states, LOL. Or at least that's the way with my wife's family. My sis-in-law just got my daughter's barely-used iPhone 3Gs, and my niece there just got my wife's BlackBerry Curve (wife and daughter had to get new iPhone 4).
Are you gonna buy this Atrix new there? You must be rich...
P.S. The Atrix does keep copies of sent and received SMS messages. It shows them in threads/conversations like iPhone, or Chikka.
It uses the Text Messaging app which I think is part of the Android OS. Motorola also throws in their own messaging widget if you want you want to use that.
My dinner break is over and I need to quit this thread for now...
Mabuhay!
Just got a brand new unlocked dell venue, put in my Att sim,and all I get is Edge??? What gives?? I know this phone doesn't support T-Mobiles 3 or 4g,but it IS supposed to support 3g on Att. If anyone knows the solution for this, please tell. I'm ready to pitch this thing into the wall....

Is your modem version -US or -AWS?
There IS T-Mobile AWS version and it sounds like exactly what you received. Also, check the service tag (under battery) on Dell's website and it should tell you exactly what you have.
