[Q] iGo 8 doesn't work. Specific problem - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I'm using an HTC HD2 with newest Energy ROM.
I downloaded iGo but when I install it, it says:
There's an older version of the program on the storage card. Do you want to downgrade now?
I don't even have an older version on the storige card and why downgrade?
And then, it only makes a shortcut for uninstalling iGo and not a shortcut for running the program.
What to do?

I'm running this on mine, but i use a seperate sd card, formatted and then copied the data across, there is protection in the software. Try coping it to the sd card and then running it from within the phone

This means that you have already installed an older version of the igo, there may be on your sd card a folder named igo, but check also in the device memory (program files) for igo folder. Also u may delete the save folder.

something dodgy found regarding SD cards?

Hi,
I upgraded to the 4.01.00 build of 2003. I decided after a bit that I missed the stuff I could add in from the kitchen and also for some reason when I tried to install something to the SD card it would just create a cab file on the card... So I manually started the cab installer from the location and it automatically installed the software into main memory?
I went back to a new brew of yorch's kitchen using 4.00.16 with hopes that this would be resolved...
I dont seem to have any problems accessing the SD card.. the data is transfered over fine... although I set Activesync to use the sd card it only ever copies the cab file and then shows the program not installed.... if I go to the SD card I can see and run the cab file copied over by activesync... but it only copies it to memory
I thought cab files installed relative to your current location (i.e) you run an install from the SD.. it gets installed to the SD.. run it from the main memory and it gets installed to the main memory.. etc.
But I'm totally confused as to why activesync refuses to install anything onto the SD card itself.
Has anyone else recieved this problem? know how to fix it? any ideas?
currently it appears I can only use the SD card for music/files or whatever I want to store rather than install other programs...
cheers for any help,
Ian.
I would uninstall your current version of activesync and install version 3.7.1. If you have 3.7.1, I would do a reinstall. It sounds like the issue isn't your SD card or the ROM that is loaded.
upps, on my XDA I everything works fine ...
I mean installing software to SD card and running the software from SD card, others things are not that smooth .... but the above mentioned is ok
I do use WM2003, version 4.0.21 T-Mobile ROM
regards,
monika
Just thought I'd add how I fixed the problem...
I stopped using this
http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/fg/dockware.htm
everytime I hard reset my device the first thing I'd do was install 3 programs...
Iliumsoft Dockware Pro
Tillanosoft Small Menu Plus
Omega One Battery Pack 2004
On that build (4.01.00) of the ROM Dockware would pretend to install by activesync... but it wouldnt even copy over or anything...
After doing that, the rest of the software would follow straight into main memory whither I asked it to or not.... the exception to this case was a few programs like Resco explorer and a few games that did install to the card.
Everything else just copied the cab files over to the sd card.. and then when you installed the cab files from there, they went into main memory.
So.... I hard reset the device and didnt install DockWare at all.... every piece of software installs fine now without a hitch...
Strange huh?
MOTD: dont use Dockware on later builds of 2k3 heh

Backing up - Completely

Hi gang,
One quick question, I wish to back up the current image on my device (Rom, settings, installed apps). Can I just use the bootloader and back up to my SD? If not, what's the best app to use for a wallaby running WM2003?
Thanks!
Hi linger1974,
The method I used is as follows.
Get the XDATools from this site.
Install the XDATools.
Now you have the XDA OS Image Tool.
Use this tool to read the current OS, and save it to your PC.
You now have a backup (*.NB1) of your XDA OS.
Make sure to have about 15MB of free space on your SD card.
Use SDBackup on your XDA and make a Backup to SD.
You now have a backup of your 'working set' of installed applications on the SD Card.
Use a card reader to attach the SD Card to your PC.
(Your PC probably sees it as a removable harddisk).
Make a Windows Backup of the SD card.
(RightMouse> Properties> Tools> Backup Now>)
Burn a CD with the downloaded XDATool, the XDA OS backup (*.NB1) and the Windows backup of your SD card (*.BKF)
Store the CD in a safe place .
In case of a severe emergency, find the CD which you created above, use the XDA OS Image tool to write the XDA OS NB1 back to SD Card. (If necessary install the XDATool which you burned on the CD).
All existing information on the SD Card is lost forever (but we still have the *.BKF on CD).
Perform a Soft Reset with your Stylus while holding down the On/Off button.
Release the On/Off button and perform the OS upgrade.
Now you have restored the XDA with the original OS.
Use a Card reader to attach the SD card to a PC. Format the SD card.
Perform a restore of the *BKF on CD and be sure to restore it to the SD Card.
Place the SD Card back in your XDA and use SDBackup to resore the 'working set' of installed applications.
Perform a normal Soft Reset and you are completely restored.
Hmmmm... your quick question did not result in a quick answer from me.

Would this be the same method for the XDAII? If not, can somebody explain to me how to do a complete backup, settings and all?
My recommendation would be to purchase a copy of Sprite Software's Sprite Backup ver 3.0. Excellent program! It even creates self-restoring backup files, so you don't need to install the program before you can restore the device.
Excellent program! Indispensable!
Thanks a lot, Palmtest, for your reply. Sure, it wasn't a quick one, but the detail was much appreciated.

Android 2.1 on Titan

Wondering if anyone has been able to do this, and if not, if they'd be able to get this working on the device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619285
I tried a few things based on my limited knowledge, but I had no luck.
I am trying the same thing as you are trying, only trying to get Android into the Mogul's internal memory (to replace WinMo), per the instructions found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636024
Would love any thoughts folks in the know might have.

Yea only one really big problem with running NAND Android on the Mogul (Titan). That link is for the Touch (Vogue).
We are stuck with the SD method for now. And anything above 1.6 runs really slow.

Good to know. I was wondering at the speed of the higher versions on the Titan. I think it would be cool to dual boot one of your ROMs with a 1.6 build.
Is anyone working on a NAND Android for the Titan?
i hope so... i got myns warm donut to work fine on my titan, but i had to do it from the sd card.. i figure all we need is a .nbh file, and we can nand this!
I have mssmison's eclair v7 (android 2.1) running off my SD card at a decent speed, i was suprised. its just about as fast as mym's warm donut build. im running a custom default.txt file and the eclair zimage and it seems to work well, not the fastest (fastest is probably the 1.5 ion build) but it works.
just outta curiosity (im a vogue user)
trying to help a friend with a mogul out.
You guys have a class 6 microsd? or is it class 4.
Speed ok with anything below a class 6 microsd?
Also did you guys partition it? ext2 or swap?
I really hope someone can add nand to the mogul.
im using a old class 2 microSD card, slow as hell but it dosent run extremely slow, i partioned ext2 and it ran at decent speeds, i want a better SD card so i can really see how android would run on the mogul but i dont have the money to (odviously or i wouldnt be using such a out of date piece of hardware)

Did you have to flash the NBH file to your phone to use this? If not could you post all the files you use?
I'm currently using the initial 1.5 version which is basic. It doesn't require flashing any files. All the files you need are just placed on the sd card.

um i dont think you can flash android on moguls yet; therefore no nbh can be used. I know nbh is becoming the newer way to have android on either nand or sd but the support isnt there yet for moguls.
The way the person above is using androind on the mogul is through the sd card. You have to (similar to the way you're using android on your phone now). I believe you are using haret.exe. Anyways to FULLY maximize performance for android on sd card, you have to partition the sd card (divide the sd card).
They way you're using it right now is only 1 partition (lets say you have a 2GB SD card formated to fat32 or ntfs).
However to make android run at decent speeds, you have to partition (divide that 2GB SD Card into 3 parts).
2GB SD card gets broken down and split up into:
*256MB formated to ext2 (instead of fat32)
*Another 256MB formated to ext2
*1536MB formated to FAT32 (where you put your data normally)
After you partitioned the sd card..... you now install android (instead of running it like you've been)
You run haret.exe as usual but theres and option to copy data and systemto the ex2 partitions you made on the sd card.
the 2 ext2 partitions above will be contain the android data and system files
and will make android run faster because android files are all in that partition and it doesnt have to search and filter through your user files.
In my signature theres a video on how to partition your sd card.... but you have to figure out how to get your sd card to detect on your computer..(via card reader or other methods)
Thanks for the info intimidatorx31. That helps out tremendously. However, on the newer builds of android that are posted, instead of having the traditional system.img and rootfs.img files there is an androidinstaller.tar. Do I now use that? Also, which files go on each of the 3 partitions? On all of the directions I've found have only stated to put the downloaded files in the "andboot" folder.

You're right; forgot everything has moved to andboot folder setup with no more roofts as well.
Well the android rom im using (Myn's warm donut for the vogue) has
the classic sqsh files which is what YOU need to run it off sd card using haret.exe (running off sd card).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619980
this is where the thread is
Heres the direct link to dwonload:http://download203.mediafire.com/9k22dfx80ymg/kzyxtqkzcwa/myn-WarmDonut-03-16-2010-SQSH.zip
for additional instructions go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648045
Remember if you are using off sd card its highly recommended to partition the sd card; so it doesnt have to search the entire sd card...itll just have to search within that partition you've created (ext2 partition which is recognized by android)
Thanks again for the info.

have a few questions if anyone can help:
1. when i go here to get the myns warm donut version post am i supposed to use the SQSH version? if not i should be using the NoMoRootFs 240x320 version correct?
2. how do you install the mssmison's eclair or myn's warm doughnut? I just come back with errors each time.
3. what is the correct setup of the 3 partitions? I used partition manager 9 and made 3 partitions, but when i tried to install android there was no option to choose a partition.
4. is mssmison's more stable than myn's doughnut?
Sorry for all the questions, i'd love to mess around with android, but my last install was the myn's warm doughnut sqsh version, and it was installing for like 2 days....scrolling a bunch of files repeatedly it got up to 53276.1234 until i finally just said forget it, and rebooted. If anyone can help i'd be GREATLY appreciative!!
Thanks Gang!
miraclmoore, read the post a few above mine, it explains how to partion the SD card, and how i did it? custom default.txt, zimage for the mogul and a little technical knowldge, prettymuch all you have to do is put the androidinstall.tar in the andboot folder and run haret.exe then as soon as it vibrates press and hold the center button til the install screen appears, select to put data and system on ext2 and install it, runs with no errors (except completely randomly tty access errors when it first starts but those dont matter)
just wondering.....
nyterage..where did you find the custom default.txt and zimage for the mogul? considering all builds are for vogue, kaiser, and polaris? also when I use myns sqsh the system tries to create a new dataa store instead of just using the sqsh files like i've seen in others installations. I used partition manager 9 to partition my card. also do u need to give the 2 ext partitions drive letters? hope I am not asking stupid question as this is all a little new to me.
So am I completely boned if the down direction on my d pad is doesn't work? I can get to the install menu but then I can;t do anything at it
can someone provide a exact instructions on how to get a ppc 6800 titan.
i have spl-2.40
ppck 23569 image installed.
i couldnt get the android 1.5 to work from the "android packages" thread.
can someone say if this (android 2.1) or if android 1.5 working on the ppc 6800 titan thread.
if it is working please provide an exact instructions on how to get this working with the exact files needed for the sd card method im guessing.
I have the same problem

Any build I use when I get to the install screen to select where I want to install it, I cannot select anything. Only 2 things I can highlight in the list are install to NAND and quit.
The proper options are selected by default buy I cannot get to menu option 1 to do the install.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

[Q] May i loose the installed IGO after flash?

Hi
I just got from Ebay an used HD2 LEO, with installed IGO 8.3 + maps.
Question: If i flash a different ROM, will i loose the IGO, or i can install/start it from the storage card? Also, if i upgrade to a bigger card, may i just copy/past it there?
BTW, the HD2 is light years above my ex Toshiba TG01.
Depends if they left the installation cab on the card.
To more directly answer your question, the Rom flash will erase everything from the phone.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
There in not any sign of IGO in the device. I looked in all directories, not only in Programs and Windows. It seams to be only on the storage card.
Despite that i'm assuming that there is some copyright protection, which not allows just to copy/paste it from one storage cart to another and another phone/rom.
Nobody?
Really?
So, no one ever flashed new ROM, since having IGO installed on the storage card?

Personally I don't use IGO but a other Navigation Software.
In normal cases the software is storage on the SD (also the protection key) so install a new Rom don't mater!
The only thing you can't do is format your SD because it will remove the protection.
the only thing that get lose by Rom update is the Quicklinks,

Before you do anything, I'd recommend that you backup all your storage card contents to your PC or another storage card. You should also consider backing up your HD2 with Spb Backup or something similar. Then, if you can find a copy of the specific ROM that's already loaded on your system, you will be able to fully restore everything back to its current state, if needed.
In regard to IGO8, I'm guessing that as long as you do not wipe the storage card, IGO should be fine. You will just need to copy and paste a shortcut of the IGO.exe to your Windows\Start Menu\Programs Folder, once you finish flashing your new ROM.
Hope this helps...
Best to all,
R

Check your storage card with a file explorer, and verify that the IGO.exe is in the IGO Folder. If it is, you should have no problem backing it up or moving it to a larger card.

I have flashed many times and can verify that you can reinstall iGO8 from the 2577 folder on the storage card with all of settings in tact.

I agreed...as long as the 2577 and IGO folder is store in your storage card its doesn't really matter either u flashed it or do the hard reset on your HD2. Currently I am using IGO 8.3.4 for HTC HD2.
Thanks
I'm going to look out for new ROMs. I love this game.
OK I flashed and IGO still works.
Thanks for the support.
Does anyone knows how to get a quick-link for it, since it's on the SD card only?

[Q] unable to flash any ROM

Hi all,
cause my HD2 was getting freeze, I decided to flash it again. After few attempts I am in phase, that I can´t successfully finish any ROM flashing.
I tried official ROMs 1.66.405.2, 1.66.479.2, 3.14.479.2 and also unofficial.
Now I have HSPL 3.03 and flashing always ends up with error mostly in 1% or more %, because of "communication error" or "image file corruption" or "old version of DFT". Flashing from SD card does not work, it goes directly in SPL window..
Phone is still under warranty, but I´m afraid they will refuse it due to installed HSPL.
Does exist some another app like TASK29 or low-level formatting tool?
Any idea what could I try? Can it be cause of corrupted flash memory?
Thanks.
Mira
Don't freak out all is not lost you just hit a bump in the road. Did you reflash HSPL after trying to flash via SD card as flashing a official ROM via SD card will revert you back to SPL.
Yes run a Task 29 on your HD2 and make sure you right click it and run it as administrator. You have to have HSPL to run a Task 29 though so make sure you have HSPL before you run it.
I have used HSPL4 app so at this time I have in phone 3.03 HSPL.
Flashing from SD card didn´t work, window with instruction does not appear.
With Task29 is the situation same. Mostly it does not finish successfully and fail after 19% due to reasons mentioned above. I have only one account in WinXP with admin rights, so this is ok I think.
Just to be sure here you copied the RUU_signed.nbh file to your SD card and renamed it LEOIMG.nbh and then powered your HD2 on while holding the volume down button down right? Just double checking is all, plus you might have to reformat your SD card using Fat 32 if you try it again and get the same results.
It does not matter if you have one or more admin accounts on your computer and it does not matter if you are using the admin account still right click it and run as admin trust me on this.
Also go to myphone.microsoft.com/getstarted and download and install the latest version of ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center wich ever one you need according to what version of Windows your computer uses. I tell you to do this to make sure you have the latest USB drivers for your HD2.
- yes I tried it exactly this way, they were 1GB and 4GB microSD formated as FAT32
- as I said, I do not have possibility run exe file as admin, however it was working fine in the past
- I´m using now latest version MS Activesync 4.5.0
still no change

Try Googling for "Panasonic micro SD card formatting software" downloads and install it (it is free) and format your card with it. Sometimes the windows format utility just doesn't do the job. Then place the leoimg.nbh file on your SD card and try to flash it.
