Android 2.1 on Titan - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Wondering if anyone has been able to do this, and if not, if they'd be able to get this working on the device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619285
I tried a few things based on my limited knowledge, but I had no luck.

I am trying the same thing as you are trying, only trying to get Android into the Mogul's internal memory (to replace WinMo), per the instructions found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636024
Would love any thoughts folks in the know might have.

Yea only one really big problem with running NAND Android on the Mogul (Titan). That link is for the Touch (Vogue).
We are stuck with the SD method for now. And anything above 1.6 runs really slow.

Good to know. I was wondering at the speed of the higher versions on the Titan. I think it would be cool to dual boot one of your ROMs with a 1.6 build.

Is anyone working on a NAND Android for the Titan?

i hope so... i got myns warm donut to work fine on my titan, but i had to do it from the sd card.. i figure all we need is a .nbh file, and we can nand this!

I have mssmison's eclair v7 (android 2.1) running off my SD card at a decent speed, i was suprised. its just about as fast as mym's warm donut build. im running a custom default.txt file and the eclair zimage and it seems to work well, not the fastest (fastest is probably the 1.5 ion build) but it works.

just outta curiosity (im a vogue user)
trying to help a friend with a mogul out.
You guys have a class 6 microsd? or is it class 4.
Speed ok with anything below a class 6 microsd?
Also did you guys partition it? ext2 or swap?
I really hope someone can add nand to the mogul.

im using a old class 2 microSD card, slow as hell but it dosent run extremely slow, i partioned ext2 and it ran at decent speeds, i want a better SD card so i can really see how android would run on the mogul but i dont have the money to (odviously or i wouldnt be using such a out of date piece of hardware)

Did you have to flash the NBH file to your phone to use this? If not could you post all the files you use?
I'm currently using the initial 1.5 version which is basic. It doesn't require flashing any files. All the files you need are just placed on the sd card.

um i dont think you can flash android on moguls yet; therefore no nbh can be used. I know nbh is becoming the newer way to have android on either nand or sd but the support isnt there yet for moguls.
The way the person above is using androind on the mogul is through the sd card. You have to (similar to the way you're using android on your phone now). I believe you are using haret.exe. Anyways to FULLY maximize performance for android on sd card, you have to partition the sd card (divide the sd card).
They way you're using it right now is only 1 partition (lets say you have a 2GB SD card formated to fat32 or ntfs).
However to make android run at decent speeds, you have to partition (divide that 2GB SD Card into 3 parts).
2GB SD card gets broken down and split up into:
*256MB formated to ext2 (instead of fat32)
*Another 256MB formated to ext2
*1536MB formated to FAT32 (where you put your data normally)
After you partitioned the sd card..... you now install android (instead of running it like you've been)
You run haret.exe as usual but theres and option to copy data and systemto the ex2 partitions you made on the sd card.
the 2 ext2 partitions above will be contain the android data and system files
and will make android run faster because android files are all in that partition and it doesnt have to search and filter through your user files.
In my signature theres a video on how to partition your sd card.... but you have to figure out how to get your sd card to detect on your computer..(via card reader or other methods)

Thanks for the info intimidatorx31. That helps out tremendously. However, on the newer builds of android that are posted, instead of having the traditional system.img and rootfs.img files there is an androidinstaller.tar. Do I now use that? Also, which files go on each of the 3 partitions? On all of the directions I've found have only stated to put the downloaded files in the "andboot" folder.

You're right; forgot everything has moved to andboot folder setup with no more roofts as well.
Well the android rom im using (Myn's warm donut for the vogue) has
the classic sqsh files which is what YOU need to run it off sd card using haret.exe (running off sd card).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619980
this is where the thread is
Heres the direct link to dwonload:http://download203.mediafire.com/9k22dfx80ymg/kzyxtqkzcwa/myn-WarmDonut-03-16-2010-SQSH.zip
for additional instructions go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648045
Remember if you are using off sd card its highly recommended to partition the sd card; so it doesnt have to search the entire sd card...itll just have to search within that partition you've created (ext2 partition which is recognized by android)

Thanks again for the info.

have a few questions if anyone can help:
1. when i go here to get the myns warm donut version post am i supposed to use the SQSH version? if not i should be using the NoMoRootFs 240x320 version correct?
2. how do you install the mssmison's eclair or myn's warm doughnut? I just come back with errors each time.
3. what is the correct setup of the 3 partitions? I used partition manager 9 and made 3 partitions, but when i tried to install android there was no option to choose a partition.
4. is mssmison's more stable than myn's doughnut?
Sorry for all the questions, i'd love to mess around with android, but my last install was the myn's warm doughnut sqsh version, and it was installing for like 2 days....scrolling a bunch of files repeatedly it got up to 53276.1234 until i finally just said forget it, and rebooted. If anyone can help i'd be GREATLY appreciative!!
Thanks Gang!

miraclmoore, read the post a few above mine, it explains how to partion the SD card, and how i did it? custom default.txt, zimage for the mogul and a little technical knowldge, prettymuch all you have to do is put the androidinstall.tar in the andboot folder and run haret.exe then as soon as it vibrates press and hold the center button til the install screen appears, select to put data and system on ext2 and install it, runs with no errors (except completely randomly tty access errors when it first starts but those dont matter)

just wondering.....
nyterage..where did you find the custom default.txt and zimage for the mogul? considering all builds are for vogue, kaiser, and polaris? also when I use myns sqsh the system tries to create a new dataa store instead of just using the sqsh files like i've seen in others installations. I used partition manager 9 to partition my card. also do u need to give the 2 ext partitions drive letters? hope I am not asking stupid question as this is all a little new to me.

So am I completely boned if the down direction on my d pad is doesn't work? I can get to the install menu but then I can;t do anything at it

can someone provide a exact instructions on how to get a ppc 6800 titan.
i have spl-2.40
ppck 23569 image installed.
i couldnt get the android 1.5 to work from the "android packages" thread.
can someone say if this (android 2.1) or if android 1.5 working on the ppc 6800 titan thread.
if it is working please provide an exact instructions on how to get this working with the exact files needed for the sd card method im guessing.

I have the same problem

Any build I use when I get to the install screen to select where I want to install it, I cannot select anything. Only 2 things I can highlight in the list are install to NAND and quit.
The proper options are selected by default buy I cannot get to menu option 1 to do the install.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Does class 6 SDHC card make much difference

Hey there folks.
Just a quick one here. But does using a class 6 sd card in a G1 make much difference to the running of it?
I am talking of a rooted phone using A2SD.
I currently have the class 2 8GB card that came free with the phone but can grab a class 6 one pretty cheap off ebay.
Would it make a noticeable difference?
For A2SD alone, I think it won't make a big difference, especially if your reading speed is good enough.
I have decided that I will go for a class 6 card but I have a few choices and not sure which one to go for:
http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?sea...archstring=8gb+micro+sd&page=search&pa=search
The samsung one looks pretty good.
These prices reflect very closely the ones on ebay for the same/similar products so I would probably just buy from them.
Many Thanks

Get any class 6 you want but if you have alot of apps class 6 would be better or if you plan on using a hero rom or something that uses swap.
Cool.
Yes I am using a swap partition and have a fair few apps too.
I have just ordered the Samsung one as it had a higher transfer speed than the trandcend one.
Thanks
i just have a quick follow up question, as i have been wondering this exact same thread topic for awhile now (hope the OP doesnt mind)
something that says "10mb ram hack" means it is using the swap function right?
and also, if i buy a new sd card, do i need to just stick it in and (if A2sd is already installed on the custom rom) it will work? ive been holding on buying one because i didnt know whether i would have to go thru the whole root process again or something
many thanks
If you already have root access, you shouldnt have to do the whole process again.
I just got my Class 6 yesterday and switched it over with no problems (running SuperD).
I did it this way and it worked fine (senior members might have a better method):
I put in the new card and booted to recovery. Im using Amon recovery. I then just did a full wipe, and then partitioned using the command in the recovery window. After that, I enabled USB access from recovery and dragged the radio, spl, and rom to the newly partitioned sd card. I flashed radio, then spl, and then the rom and all worked fine.
I did have to install all my apps again, so if your wanting to save the apps you have installed now, you might need to do it a different way. I dont even think you actuallyl have to even flash the radio and spl again if you have already done it. I just did it to be sure.
Hope that helps a bit.

if you are just swapping sd cards, there is no need to flash SPL and Radio again. Those are flashed to the PHONE.
easiest way to swap sd cards quickly and easily is this...
use AMON-Ra recovery
go to console-
type in switchrom
now type switchrom -s sdchangebackup <---- you can change that name, this is just for demo purposes.
once it creates a nand backup and saves your stuff you have one or two choices.
1)pull that sdcard out of your phone, put it in a card reader
2)boot into android and mount the sdcard
once that is done, drag all the files from the sdcard into a folder on your desktop named whatever you would like (mine is SDSwitch)
now turn phone off and put NEW sdcard into phone. Boot into recovery and partition it using amon-ra recovery.
put the NEW sd card into card reader and drag all files from your backup folder onto the new card.
put NEW sdcard back into phone and boot back into recovery and go to console.
type switchrom
and then switchrom -r (a list will come up if you have other switchroms you can choose them but if you want to go back to EXACTLY what you had before just choose the one you named earlier in this process)
once it restores everything, boot it up and test it out. it should be back to where you were with no problems.
it seems like a long and tedious process but it only takes about 5-10 minutes and your phone is back to normal without having to reflash a ROM and get it back to all your apps and customized stuff.

Yeah I heard...but I haven't seen one, somebody else said they are too big for the sd slot on the G1....can't confirm that though, either way the TOPRAM, sdcard is the top of the line as far as Class 6 goes.
I'm running a Centon 16GB class 6 card (1GB A2SD EXT3, 96MB linux-swap) in my G1 and everything's running lightning fast.
I hope so I just ordered an 8 gig micro sd card class 6 from amazon. I have a class 4. I hope I can tell a difference. I want to run Hero Roms and from what I am reading you need the class 6 to do so.
yes, for hero roms, yes yes yes yes yes. yes and yes

Phone restarts itself when in android

I am on stock 16GB sd card class2 and HD2 stock battteryI tried 2GB class 2 and 8Gb class 6. I am on Radio 2.10 and even upgraded to 2.12.Lot of SODS and phone restarts automatically.
After SOD windows won't load up and hangs at Stick together logo and will never go forward. Need to take off the battery and need to wait for couple of minutes and after wards it loads.
After getting into Android, gets again SOD and will reboot and when I get back into android, will try to check email or make call and then again phone restarts itself.
Any ideas.
I am on Darkstone latest release froyo2.2 with today's update i.e 18th August and tried all kinds of ROMS.
Any help is appreciated.
do you hspl3 your hd2
Yes it says 2.08SPL when I enter in tri-color mode.
Any help on this?
this has happened to me as well, using mattc 1.5b with Cloudy 1.6 winmo ROM
Radio 2.10.50.26. I am unable to provide the cause of this, just seems to be
random.
Could be corrupt files on you sd card. A bit time consuming, but doesn't hurt..
- Copy your sd card onto your pc.
- Format sd card (fat32)
- Copy everything back
I read somewhere that this problem can be caused with mounting your sd card from your phone via usb. I know I had a lot of problems with Android seeing the new files I copied over so I stopped doing it (connecting via usb).

Do you want to me to try still?
Any other suggestions?
Just dittoing. Having the same problem with chuckyrom + mattc 1.5. Seems to happen when i'm not using the phone for a while.
Can I load the stock firmware , and install HSP3 and start running android?
Do I need to have a different ROM to run this? All I understood was earlier there was a sound issue but not now..Can I do the above step?
same
yea i get this very random, I'm not to sure if its bluetooth related for me, anyone's guess i think at the moment

I had this same self-reboot issues, regardless of android build, even after deleting and re-creating the android folder in the sd card.
Following is how I managed to solve it:
Take out sd card and use card reader, mount it on a winxp machine.
Copy ALL files to a backup folder in pc. Use 'xcopy /e /c *.* c:\sdbak\.' for example, as normal copy/paste wouldn't work if it found errors due to corrupted files.
Use sd formatter. Refer to this thread. Do a Full format; a class 2, 8GB will take around 10 minutes to complete.
Copy back each backup folder into the formatted sd card, one by one. Recreate and copy your favorite android build onto the sd card.
Reinsert sd card, boot up and start android from fresh.
Let us know if this works for you.
i did do full format in xp before and have random reboot problems. Maybe something happened since then, ill try this tool.
Did it and no dice, still reboots. Im gonna try another suggestion about uninstalling setcpu.
setcpu
this restart happens to me everytime i use setcpu im on shubcraft 1.4b with the r4 overclocked zimage labeled NewKernels_LatestGIT_r4_BTalternative it just started happening with this zimage. are you using setcpu try uninstalling it it worked for me! i never had this prob with the original zimage! hope this helps!

It doesn't work. It still reboots inspite of doing all the above steps.
I have the same issue with crashing back to windows mobile when inactive, this is only recent for me, previously Android was solid as a rock. Guess I will try a build without adding apps or settings and see if it crashes, then add apps one at a time.
Does anyone know of a way of catching the error/crash reason?

App2SD: Duplicate SD Card

Hi,
I am running Cyanogen 6.1 with APP2SD running, and have an 8GB SD Card with apps installed on it. I recently bought a new 16GB SD Card and was wondering how I duplicate the contents of my 8GB SD Card to the 16GB SD Card.
Any ideas would be VERY helpful.
I never tried, but I think it should be enough if you copy contents from the old one to the new one using a computer.
Sent from my HTC Hero
Unless you are using the native Froyo Apps-to-SD and not the old solution, then you can't just copy the files on a computer. Using the old system the apps are stored on a completely separated partition to what is shown when you mount your SD Card.
You can probably access that partition if you are using Linux, but having never used the old Apps2SD I can't check it myself.
I thought that might be the case. Linux laptop here I come!!
I recently bought a 16GB card and my Hero started to lag and restart SENSE randomly
Please reply to know if you have this issue
Hi,
I haven't put the 16GB in yet, as I have Apps installed to my 8GB SD Card and didn't know what to do (good job I have a linux based laptop really).
Sadly (not for me, but you know what I mean...) my ROM doesn't have SENSE. I am running CyanogenMOD 6.1.0.
What ROM are you running, I may know what the issue is?

I have a class4 memory card, and when i am launching some apps htc sense just force closes and the app i wanted to open just quits, after it is happened several times, htc senses starts to force close again and again until phone starts to lag and then hangs up.
From what I understand, VillainROM12 is a SENSE 2.1 ROM. I can't understand why this would lag, other than the implementation of SENSE isn't the patched version with the LAG fix. Early versions of SENSE were terrible and HTC had to release a patch to fix the lag issues.
The force close issue could either be down to the app timing out or something isn't installed properly. I can't really tell without installing VillainROM on my phone (I have CyanogenMOD 6.1 which, in my opinion, is flawless). My ROM isn't sense orientated, it uses apps like Launcher Pro plus (I think it comes with ADW.Launcher by default) instead of sense. ADW does have a theme pack to make it look like HTCs SENSE app.
I would suggest a couple of things;
Check available RAM
Back up your SD Card and reformat it as follows;
EXT2 = 512MB (You can use more, but you shouldn't need to)
(DO NOT use EXT3 or EXT4, these partition types are kernel dependent, and will lower the life of your card, they are intended for large partitions of like 50GB upwards)
SWAP = 0MB
FAT = The rest
I use AmonRA Recovery 1.7.0.1 which has a very useful partition SD card feature, better than ClockworkMods anyway (Evertime I partitioned a card in ClockworkMOD the phone refused to boot). Unfortunately if you have any apps installed to the SD card you may lose them unless you move them back to the phone (If you go Settings > Applications then click on "On SD Card" this will give you a list of "moved" apps).
Again, if you HAVEN'T got any apps on the SD card this could be the problem, as you are using ALL your phones RAM to store apps in, so like a PC running low on memory, no RAM means poor performance.
Try checking available resources before re-partitioning your SD Card. If you can't see what memory is available to you, try an app ion the market place called App 2 SD Free by Sam Lu, it's free, and gives you a readout of exactly what memory is being used (it also gives you a list of apps you CAN move to the SD card). I'd use it for diagnostics for now, as I don't know if VillainROM12 comes with APP2SD installed by default.
Try these out and let me know how you get on. PLEASE make a nandroid backup first, this CAN restore your SDCARD if the partition goes wrong.
Please be advised that I take no responsibility for any issues that may occur. I have performed all these tasks on my HTC Hero with no problems though.
I have tried these things but nothing helped. I have done everything the same with same type 8GB card and there was no problem, i think that HERO just cant handle 16GB but HTC says that it can support up to 32GB.

I can't really comment until I format my 16GB car and put it in (should be arriving this morning). Have you thought about another ROM? SENSE is notorious for causing lag. The guys at VillainROM also make FroydVillain (I think the latest version is 1.7.2). This doesn't have SENSE though, and you will need to backup your setting/messages/apps/and everything else first.
Backing up settings is slightly different to a nandroid. I recommend Backup Everything, as you can select what you want to back up. The only problem is you usually need to re-download the app on your new ROM to restore stuff, even if you backup apps too.
Update: Take a look at this thread for other ROMs
Sorry I can't be of more use...

Urukdroid Questions

Hi.
1)
I installed Urukdroid using the Easy Installer in internal memory.
Everytime I restart the device, UD wants to install rootfs on the SDHC card, but it is too slow for using UD.
How can I prevent UD from altering the working system
2)
I read somewhere, ext4 is faster than ext3.
Which file system is installed by UD, when usind Easy Installation?
3)
code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/Installation
There is an additional Kernel on this page.
What is this one for?
Is it the OC Kernel?

Every installation of urukdroid install it to an ext4 partition
3)
I think this is the normal kernel of uruk, the oc kernel is somewhere hede on xda
You should try to re-flash the normal kernel to solve 1)
Welcome on XDA!
Thanks for your answer.
Do you mean reflashing with SDHC card inserted?
I did that in one installation attempt, but it took a veeeery long time for the installation to finish.
I took the card out, after that attempt.

Do you want uruk on sd or not? you can decide...
just reinstall urukdroid
No, I don't want it on SD.
I want it in internal.
I got a suggestion in android-hilfe .de to buy a slower but bigger SDHC Card and install Urukdroid on internal.
I did that, but it is annoying when the device restarts.
I would rather leave the SD in the A70 permanently but to remove it everytime it restarts.

Another question:
Is it wise to use ext4 instead of fat32 for the biggest patition used for storing data and readable by Windows?
Is there any speed improvement?
Furthermore:
I installed firmware 2.1.08 and I want to stay there, as I heard it is the most problem-free version.
Can I use the kernel from here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897877
I don't think so, as it says it is for 2.3.20

Another question:
what happenes, if the SD Card is full?
Is UD creating new Partitions while saving the data on the SD?
That could be an answer to the long waiting time.

The system partition of uruk is always ext4, the normal storage partition is alwys fat32 so you dont gonna have problems with mounting under windows

You wanna use Stock or Urukdroid?
Urukdroid 1.0 is the modified version of 2.1.08
Well, I want to use Urukdroid.
I tried the OC Kernel from the thread posted above, but I got a bootloop.
Reinstallation of the original Kernel is in progress.

I don't think the OC kernal works with Uruk1.0. If you want to OC you need to run the 0.7. Not sure if it makes a difference but the few times I have reinstalled Uruk to internal memory I remove the SD card during the whole process so nothing gets put on the SD. I don't think it makes a difference but it makes me feel better . My new 16gb class 10 should be here monday so I can install Uruk on it and hopefully it will speed things up.
Guess I have to wait...
(System is running now, never touch a running system)
I reinstalled UD with SDHC Card inserted. Before that I deleted all Data on it.
Installation was way quicker than before.
Although I think the UD Installer created the rootfs and data partition on both internal and external memory.
How do I out, which memory is used?

[Q] Urukdorid help.

Hi, i have been searching but have been unable to find some answers..
Completely new to this, before i start.
I installed urukdroid 1.5 using the easy install method on my archos 101.
1. When using urukdroid it is so slow and unresponsive, from what i have read this is probably because i have a slow cheap sd card, sound about right??
2. So if i want to uninstall ud from my card am i best using the recovery menu option (and would that just wipe all my stuff) or (as i saw in a different post) format the sd card on a pc and copy my stuff back on to it?? unsure of what is actually on the card and whats on the archos as far as uninstall goes. and what happens to the partitions
2.1. Secondly, why do people put ud on a sd card instead of the internal memory? (remember noob alert!!) it seems like you limit yourself to only using one sd card and the possibility of it running really slow.
3. So if i want to put it on my internal memory - should i do it? what are the pitfalls? will it wipe all my data like it did on the sd card? (lucky i took a backup eh!)
4. And, last question, i promise, is urukdroid really that much faster once you overclock and get it all running nicely?? for example i tried to run shadow gun on the stock 101 and it tried hard but didnt quite get there, would this run ok under ud? or am i completely missing the point of ud (very possible)
Thank you all for any help/answers.

I also just installed Uruk 1.5 on my A70 last night and have updated to 1.6RC2 then 1.6RC4. I used advanced install and let it do its thing to install to internal memory. I can see maybe a slight improvement over the stock ROM but I now have a problem where I can't install any apps due to lack of space. This method did not wipe all my data and while still on 1.5 I was able to find my backed up apps and re-installed a few. You will still have your original ROM to fall back on. Unfortunately I have a feeling that anyone knowledgeable will not be reading these posts and newbies cant post in the developer's thread where the meat of the conversation is taking place. Maybe we'll get lucky.
Hi,
Yes i agree, anyone who would know the answers prob doesnt read these. Is it possible to bump it up a bit in anyway??

1. If you don't have a verrrry fast sd card ii is alot slower then internal, esp. as the controller is also slower on sd then on the internal .
2. If you remove the sd card, and flash the Urukdroid initram and zimage you can install everything on internal.
The easyinstaller allwas to resize your internal memory so that the original Android and Data stays intact.
2.1. UrukDroid started on sd because it is easier to not do something wrong instead on the internal. Since 0.7 it is stable eough to allways go to internal.
3. Yes internal is the best way, and for erasing read 2.
4. No it is not much faster, how could it be?
Std archos runs with 1GHz and Uruk sometimes up to 1.2GHz ( most of us can't get over 1.1 ) so to be able to play really demanding games it is the wrong tablet.
And yes you are completely missing the point.
UD and every ROM for other devices are there to give you more freedom, like root or the way bigger appspace ( std archos has 300MB ), OS upgrade ( when CM7 or CM9 are done for ex) or other designes ( like MIUI).
My A70 runs much better since I changed to Urukdroid. Less laggy and generally faster. Very few crashes. The ext4 filesytem is much faster than Fat32 and I think that compcache and swap also help a lot.
Don.
Hi Fzelle,
Thanks for your help, cleared stuff up.
Like i said, i thought i might be missing the point of it, i did wonder how much difference overclocking it to 1.2Ghz and the UD system would make. but i can see the point of having a bigger app area, i had the warning of running out of space.
Just to check though, to uninstall it from my sd card you said see 2. but it wasnt clear what that meant. should i go to the recovery boot screen and delete it there or just format my sd card? and i have now got a rootfs.img on my internal storage, is this normal??
Thanks again.
Cheers Lee...
Rootfs.img comes from the SDE installation, as you have installed Angstrom Linux with that.
If you don't plan to use that, you can erase that or save it to your computer.
If you shut down the tab and remove the sd, install the zimage and initram of uruk you will be asked to install again.
Use advanced and install on internal.
