Just wondered why you think someone else would do the leg work for you to find a compass APK, when they can be downloaded from the market? Here's a hint - use Google!
Regards,
Dave
As said, use market to get a compass app. Search for 'Analog Compass' for example (or just 'compass' for all).
That's the one I'm using and think is quite nice.

i like "marine compass", shows off the combination of g-sensors and compass
GPS Status also shows the compass.
gackaass, if you don't have the Android market in your country, have a look at slideme.org and andappstore.com. You can also search the Android market on cyrket.com or androlib.com and then try to find an apk from the results there.
tanx for u all
but i forgot to say i can not connect to internet by phone !(ad-hoc problem you know) my carrier is rubbish in internet service as well....
so no market access !
please upload any best u know ! i will pay for it :d

androlib and cyrket (once it works again) are "only" frontends to the market. You could try and use a Google search for the program names that you can find there.
Or use the Website link and see whether the authors have an apk on their site.
http://code.google.com/p/android-ac/ and http://code.google.com/p/eyes-free/ showed up on the first three pages of results for "compass".
Or use slideme (once it's working again) and andappstore. Andappstore has a direct link to a "GPS status" apk.
Yes, that's not very comfortable, and it's a pity that Android cannot use Ad-hoc mode without rooting and some additional work.
You could vote for http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=82 by logging in and clicking on the little star.
Maybe it's easier to convince your PC to act like an Access Point, e.g. with http://connectify.me/ or something like http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2...ain-USB-Adapter-Versatile-Station-AP-Mode.htm.
tank u for ur attention !
i am new in android! and i dont no more about rooting!
would u plz tell me more about rooting!
and what is the advantage of rooting ! what can i do after rooting! does it have risk?
tanx
Sorry, I don't know much about rooting, you have to google that on your own (or look around here in this forum, there are even stickies for it). There is a risk of bricking the phone and also you might lose the warranty. If you don't feel confident to do it on your own and understand the risks, don't do it.
One point I forgot in my previous reply: your (our) Hero was rather expensive, maybe it wouldn't hurt to buy an inexpensive WiFi router or access point. It's the easiest way to solve this problem. At the moment you only want a compass app, but there are a lot more apps that you might find useful in the future, and I wouldn't want to hunt them down one by one like you do at the moment.
Hi all,
I've searched around and haven't found any concrete answers. Is it possible to use my Eris as a GPS receiver? I'm already using PDANet for my internet connection when on the road and now want to use Google maps on my laptop and have it update my location using my Eris's GPS. Is this possible?
Thanks,
William
It should be trivial to write an application that logs GPS data to your computer.

I don't mean to start anything, but are you serious? That reply really does nothing to help me.
I can't even get hello world test application to run, so for me, not being proficient in writing applications, it's not trivial. And I've tried... I just don't understand how the whole application writing process works.
but...thanks
there is an app on the market called GPS tether. should do what you are looking for.

If you live in Montreal, I'd test copilot before buying, I charted 2 courses and the maps didn't detect one way streets. I tried turning on a one way because of it and had to do a 10 minute detour to get back on course... Be careful!
Navigon is another offline gps tool, but it's not out yet... It's great on the iphone though

hi, you should get Motonav, it uses the correct resolution and you can have Igo maps on it, since it's basically Igo for android
it's not free though, but you can always find a cracked version if you know how
Navigon 2.6.1 works great on my X10. I've tried almost all. Most of them look like crap or are laggy. I dont like the 'new' iGo. I've always used Igo in WinMO. The Android version kinda sucks.
Have a look here.. http://forum.mobilism.org/viewforum.php?f=653
Navigon is imo amazing great.
The full version needs no internet connection and i´ve never had lost the GPS-Signal (without by driving through a tunnel, but then it takes your last known Speed and it navigates you even there, provided you don´t increase your speed)
^^Sorry for my bad english ;-)
NDrive is great.

for nDrive, can you tell me how to navigate from 1 location to another. i can only navigate from home to a location
I'd prefer Sygic mobile maps
you dont need any internet connection, just your gps and a sd-card (for your maps)

Good website. I now use iGOMyWay_8.4.2.139242_Android_SLO app and TA-Q2.2010_us-can maps. It works wonderfully without wifi or cellular supports. You need to turn on the "Use GPS satellites" in Locatio&security settings.
I bought this phone on ebay a while back and i'm just wondering can anybody give me some information about the phone e.g. Best GPS program , best audio player etc .
This is my first time having a Windows Mobile phone and also my first time even having a smart phone ..
As mobile browser I got Opera mini, works great. Think you can get it from m.opera.com.
For movies use CorePlayer. Best mediaplayer IMO.
I got NoData for when I'm traveling, and don't wanna end up with a huge bill.
SMSBubbles is a tiny bit buggy but it works. It allows a popup with the incomming text to appear on your screen, so you can read what the text says without having to navigate.
McGuider: great navigation; make sure you get the smartphone version
If you intend to use your own headphones to listen to music; use this here. There's a coupon; SH5OFF which will give you 5% off everything. Free shipping worldwide.
For the software I suggest you use the search button to get the most recent versions.
Good luck
thanks great reply !
I checked out McGuider earlier but didnt see this phone in the list of compatible devices ?
you just try to go to ---> http://www.freewareppc.com/download/utilities/cabinstl.shtml there you can find many free applications that are compatible for your device
Can anyone tell me does Google Maps have a sat nav feature or is it just like basic maps?
I think it is just basic maps...to be honest im too lazy to check it now...
Btw try sygic mobile 10...best navigation software for this phone imo...also includes camera alert

Hi
I was wondering...
If you have an action camera like a GoPro, you can connect it to your tablet and see in life what the camera is seeing/recording. Without internet.
Could that be possible using the Z5 compact? I mean, to connect it in some way (wifi?bluetooth?usb wire?magic?) to my tablet. So in my tablet I can see in life what the Z5Compact is seeing/recording with the camera. Without internet.
Is that possible?
How?
Thanks
(I am not quite sure if this topic is in the right subforum. if not, feel free to move it)
Yup its possible
mmmm... how?
the only way I knew was to be both devices (z5compact and tablet) connected to the same wifi. and then transfer the lifevideo from the z5compact to the tablet via IPcam (or an app call like that)... otherwise... doing like a life streaming online, or a videocall..
but I mean... how can you do it without an internet connection? like you can do with a go pro
if it is possible.... is everyone going to keep it like a secret?!?!?! hahaha
My buddy uses an old phone as security camera, I'll ask him what he's using but I'm sure it's wifi.
yes please. still havent found anyone saying a way of doing that without internet

A quick play store search pulls a couple up. There's gotta be an app for that.
