Turning my Eris into a GPS receiver? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I've searched around and haven't found any concrete answers. Is it possible to use my Eris as a GPS receiver? I'm already using PDANet for my internet connection when on the road and now want to use Google maps on my laptop and have it update my location using my Eris's GPS. Is this possible?
Thanks,
William

It should be trivial to write an application that logs GPS data to your computer.

I don't mean to start anything, but are you serious? That reply really does nothing to help me.
I can't even get hello world test application to run, so for me, not being proficient in writing applications, it's not trivial. And I've tried... I just don't understand how the whole application writing process works.
but...thanks

there is an app on the market called GPS tether. should do what you are looking for.

If you live in Montreal, I'd test copilot before buying, I charted 2 courses and the maps didn't detect one way streets. I tried turning on a one way because of it and had to do a 10 minute detour to get back on course... Be careful!
Navigon is another offline gps tool, but it's not out yet... It's great on the iphone though

hi, you should get Motonav, it uses the correct resolution and you can have Igo maps on it, since it's basically Igo for android
it's not free though, but you can always find a cracked version if you know how
Navigon 2.6.1 works great on my X10. I've tried almost all. Most of them look like crap or are laggy. I dont like the 'new' iGo. I've always used Igo in WinMO. The Android version kinda sucks.
Have a look here.. http://forum.mobilism.org/viewforum.php?f=653
Navigon is imo amazing great.
The full version needs no internet connection and i´ve never had lost the GPS-Signal (without by driving through a tunnel, but then it takes your last known Speed and it navigates you even there, provided you don´t increase your speed)
^^Sorry for my bad english ;-)
NDrive is great.

for nDrive, can you tell me how to navigate from 1 location to another. i can only navigate from home to a location
I'd prefer Sygic mobile maps
you dont need any internet connection, just your gps and a sd-card (for your maps)

Good website. I now use iGOMyWay_8.4.2.139242_Android_SLO app and TA-Q2.2010_us-can maps. It works wonderfully without wifi or cellular supports. You need to turn on the "Use GPS satellites" in Locatio&security settings.

Just bought this phone

I bought this phone on ebay a while back and i'm just wondering can anybody give me some information about the phone e.g. Best GPS program , best audio player etc .
This is my first time having a Windows Mobile phone and also my first time even having a smart phone ..
As mobile browser I got Opera mini, works great. Think you can get it from m.opera.com.
For movies use CorePlayer. Best mediaplayer IMO.
I got NoData for when I'm traveling, and don't wanna end up with a huge bill.
SMSBubbles is a tiny bit buggy but it works. It allows a popup with the incomming text to appear on your screen, so you can read what the text says without having to navigate.
McGuider: great navigation; make sure you get the smartphone version
If you intend to use your own headphones to listen to music; use this here. There's a coupon; SH5OFF which will give you 5% off everything. Free shipping worldwide.
For the software I suggest you use the search button to get the most recent versions.
Good luck
thanks great reply !
I checked out McGuider earlier but didnt see this phone in the list of compatible devices ?
you just try to go to ---> http://www.freewareppc.com/download/utilities/cabinstl.shtml there you can find many free applications that are compatible for your device
Can anyone tell me does Google Maps have a sat nav feature or is it just like basic maps?
I think it is just basic maps...to be honest im too lazy to check it now...
Btw try sygic mobile 10...best navigation software for this phone imo...also includes camera alert

[Q] Offline voice regocnition

Hi, I'm having a rather frustrating problem and I was hoping someone could help me out. On my htc desire x, there is no option to download the offline voice packages. My google search and voice search are both up to date and there are no software updates for my phone, so my android and sense are up to date. I just got the app Utter, which is great by the way, but I want to be able to use it without killing my internet cap, since I don't have WiFi at home.
Still no reply?
People please I would love if someone could just help me out here. Not being able to use utter offline really sucks.
Well, I have personaly never heard about any usefull offline voice recognition, everything is using online sources.

Google offers you the option to download their voice packages. The problem is, it doesn't allow me to do that on my phone.
Same problem with my HTCDX

Android 5+ Wifi Repeater / fqrouter2 alternative

Hi all,
I've been looking for quite some time now for a way to turn my phone into a Wifi repeater.
About a year ago I read somewhere about a chinese app called "fqrouter2", which is mainly
used as a vpn tunnel but also has a feature for rooted phones to host a hotspot while being
connected to another wifi network.
The last version of fqrouter2 was released more than a year ago and only supported up to
Android 2.3. While I found quite a few people saying on the Internet that it is possible
on a rooted phone to use the wifi modules for sending AND recieving at the same time,
I was not able to find any alternative app so far.
I have pretty much no programming skills, so I have no idea how hard it is to write such an app,
but I can't believe that I am the only person who wants such a feature for their phone, so maybe
there is something/someone out there which/who could help me?
Regards
Made an account just now to reply, plus xda is awesome.
I hope someone can figure this out, I to need this android 5.0
Bump.
No alternative?! Is this really the only App that can be used as a WiFi-Extender?!
bump.
did my monthly research, still couldnt find any new app/solution to turn my phone into a wifi repeater
Would be great to find an alternative in case this app ceased to update.

At the start i am getting an error,"XX-net exit unexpectedly"
And finally what is the name of your phone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in future.
