Schedule power on and off app? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know of an app that can power off the phone at a certain time and then power it back on?

How would this app be running when the phone is off? I'm sure profile settimgs or tasker could put it in airplane mode for a a certain period.

Im not sure if any app could power back on the phone, but if anything could it would be Tasker, i just got it the other day and i LOVE it, you can automate just about anything your heart could desire. Check it out here:

Tasker is the whole reason I am looking. The developer of tasker said that running commands as root is not yet supported. So, I just need to run an app that will shutdown the phone at a specified time.

Just asking. Years ago, my blackberry could do a full power off and back on at specific times.

Just an app for unrooted phones that restarted the phone at a set time would be great. Anyone seen anything.

i imagine the app would be phone specific? Idk about other android devices, but when the captivate is off and you plug it in to charge, it boots up a screen showing battery levels. Following on that line of thinking, why not replace the battery meter with a timer and fool the phone into thinking its always plugged in charging? ofc, this is a very crude way to do it but it may set people on the right line of thought.
I bet the blackberry that did it had some special hardware though that held some minute charge and timer.

Shut off / Wake up
I had a BBB 9000 and it came with a native program to set a time to wake up and shut off the phone at a time you would set. It had it for through the week and weekends. I really liked to be able to do that,

this owuld be a great app!

I am looking for something like this too. I used to have the native app on my blackberry and miss it. Any programmers out there want to take it on?

i realize this is quite the old post but many chinese phones support this and the scheduled option is in the settings menu to turn on and off the phone so it appears to be built into the rom

Yes, most Chinese android phones come with this feature. It has its own tab "scheduled on and off" in the settings section.
I had a meizu M2 which ran on FLY-OS(Android lollipop) and it had this feature. It was able to power off and back on again by itself. Even if I removed the battery after powering off the phone and insert it 20mins later, it would still power on at the set time. Also, blackberry phones were able to this also.
From what I've read about this online, some people claim that a few Chinese companies have patented this feature and have exclusive ownership over it. Currently, no other phones or custom firmwares have this feature.

Can we all together request the community for porting this feature?

Bump!
LeEco x722 stock Banggood 20s version has this feature too.

Schedule power on and off in android as a native feature NOT an app
Schedule power on and off in android as a native feature is possible as some Chinese phones have it for years (decade?).
Why is still not yet widely available this feature on Android by 2020, is it really patent problem or is it due it needs specific hardware which most phone don't have...............?
As once I had it on Chines phone I never stop miss it.
Please can somebody clarify this subject for good.
Thanks!

Didn't see this mentioned in either changelog or any Android Nougat reviews - finally has a schedule power on/off option!
HOW-TO: https://www.technologyhint.com/schedule-power-on-off-android/
Note: In Android 7.1.2 this setting is in Battery menu.

What is the article trying to say? I don't get it! (yes I seen it and used it before)
Seen actually few articles like that but it doesn't answer my question.
The pictures in the article shows an Android KitKat probably on some Chinese device.
Exactly as my old Chinese phone THL L969 (TECHNOLOGY HAPPY LIFE) LOL but I giving them big credit!
And I didn't find it on my Asus Android 7.1.2 anywhere in Settings nor in Battery menu.
So again, why is it not on nearly every phone and Android version by now 2020.
What is it so mysterious about it......................?
Thank you.

@Robexuk
My last 2 cents:
Once a device got powered off, not any piece of software running on it can perform a power on: should be obvious.
What can be done is to programmatically put Android device timer controlled in stand by mode ( means display gets switched off ) and to reawaken it. On rooted phones ( with BusyBox installed on ) this is very easy to realize.

Currently i power off my x722 manually (and i see myself that the phone is been really powered off after a while) and later, on the next morning it switches on automatically just to run the AOSIP's 9.0 default alarm.
I don't know if running that apk (extracted from Titanium Backup) helped me to retain that old 6.0 feature but before that my 9.0 phone was not able to automatically power on to run that alarm...

It's to try it on my blackview bv6100 chinese phone which doesn't have this option.... (my old mann zug 5s had that with its stock rom...)

NORDICTRACK ELITE 9500 PRO Treadmill w/ 10" Android Tablet

I recently purchased a Nordic Track 9500 Elite Pro. This bad boy has a 10" android tablet built in. They really don't want you messing with the android part much, but I am sure there are plenty of other users out there like me that want to do more!
This is my first post so I am unable to show the pictures via the link. Hopefully you can copy and past the text to view the images. I will try to repost on my website so it all flows.
I don't see where a post like this would go, I am not sure if at some point it would gain it's own device forum... That would be exciting. So for now I will post here. I will also post my initial findings for others in the community that may want to purchase this treadmill and can't find any information regarding the built in Android Tablet with WiFi.
This image shows the version information. From what I can tell it looks like they purchase an APAD from someone and then stick it inside of their device. They also must have wrote some special drivers and software to interface with the equipment and hardware. I was very happy to see a mainstream current android OS.

Here are the pre-installed apps. Pretty basic. (note: I was able to find an APK and install Last.FM that wasn't included) Also a major bummer to see was that there wasn't a market application.

This is the typical workout screen you see.

I also noticed that the device doesn't have very much memory. This could be due to the built in applications taking up so much space. It only had about 57MB of internal memory free, but it had a built in 2GB SD Card. I have not gotten to the point where I have needed to take it apart yet to see if there is a replaceable SD card. I may wait another 5 years for my warranty to end to do that.
I have tried to install some apps but have not had very much luck. The only app that was I was able to install was the Last.FM.
I tried the follow apps, and they didn't install:
1. Market
2. Angry Birds
3. Pandora
Other disappointments:
1. Designed to not be in the Android Interface. They have an application that runs, and makes it tricky to get to the android desktop. It takes about 3 clicks to get from the main workout screen back to the Android Desktop.
2. The screen is not capacitive, it is resistive. I don't know how much more I need to say about that.
3. Only 3 buttons. Back, Menu, Home. Home takes you to their software not the android home screen. Long press on home does nothing.
4. When i go to the desktop the Time is all over the place. I have tried changing settings in every spot possible but something is telling it what time to think it is, occasionally it is correct... Just don't get it.
Even with the disappointments this thing is sweet. I wish i could install more apps, stream videos from a PC over the WiFi connection and stream music from a PC over the WiFi connection. Maybe with the help of the community we will figure some of these items out... Or I will be the only one who has this that knows about this website!
ntsteele,
How is your experience up to now with your 9500? I am looking at getting the c1250, which is the same as the 9500, but with a smaller motor and no decilne. Is the 10" screen worth it? The rep at Nordictrack told me the only differcence between the 7" screen is the web browser, the google maps display, and some basic apps. But overall the workout system is the same as the 7' display of the 1750 commercial and that you can view the google maps by logging in on ifit.com. Thanks for the info and screen shots.
iFit Android App
Have you or has anyone else been able to pull the apk files off of the NordicTrack Elite 9500 Treadmill. I would be interested to see if it works on any adroid phone to view the menu system.
I played with this today at Google IO. The rep said that the integrated tablet was rev 1 and that they wanted to eventually let users connect their own devices.
what do you need to press to get to the android home screen?
Where I work at there is a Proform Trailrunner 4.0 treadmill that has 10" Android tablet screen. From what I have been told nordic track and proform are made by the same manufacture or something. It was returned because of a broken display unit. Of course I wasn't going to let them throw the old one away so they let me keep it. I trashed the main display and now I have the 10" tablet but cannot power it because the treadmill doesn't operate without a magnetic key. How could I power this thing and see if it works?
I got the new incline trainer x9i which has the 10 inch android interface. I am interested to get in and try installing apps as you have but I am unable to even get to the android home screen. The only time I see it is when I turn the machine on and it is booting up, the screen comes up for a few seconds to where I can hit on the applications button and see what is on it. But within a second after I see the apps it automatically gets routed into the machine exercise interface and I have not figured how to get back to the android home screen from there. How did you do it? It would sure be nice to install a different browser. I hate the fact that I cannot create my own shortcuts. Anyway, love the machine.
How to get to the Android Home Screen
Any luck finding out how to get to the Android Home Screen? I am wanting to do that also. I was able to get to it one time accidentally, but haven't figure out how to stop the machine interface from loading since.
Home Screen
Ok, same question. I just got a C2150 which is a similar model to the 9500. Slightly smaller motor and belt, but same basic thing with the 10" tablet. I believe it's capacitive now, but still not great as far as that goes.
I too have hit the setup icon when it's booting and it goes to the Android setup screen for a second and then continues to boot into the Nordictrack IFit proprietary stuff.
So I can't believe the posts with the images and no explanation of how you got there? Please share with the rest of us.
Also, my console has a USB connector at the top of the thing. Any idea what if anything that'll let me do?
Thanks!
Anyone figure this out? Seems a shame to have a 10' screen and not be able to install apps on it. There must be some button combination that the Icon service team would use to stop the auto load of the iFit interface.
Internal Pictures
I took the tablet apart to see what information can be gathered. Apparently, HANNSTAR (TAIWAN) manufactures the board (HANNSTAR J MV-7); which uses a Samsung ARM8 CPU(5PV210AH-A0 1044); has 512MB; and a 4GB SANDISK FLASH (SDIN2C2-4G).
I haven't been able to find sufficient info to track a compatible ROM, yet I can't imagine for the life of me that HANNSTAR would design this just for Nordic. I am posting some pics hoping that someone might be able to id the hardware, which in turn might help point to a more fruitful search for a workable ROM.
Try to upload pics but not sure if it worked. It's late, and I can't figure out how to do it smoothly yet.
I'm gonna do another bump. I have a similar treadmill (or maybe the exact same one, I lost the the manual with product name). It is of the X9i series and when I saw it in the store, I had to go for it. I was a bit irritated to see that you are locked to the iFit application and you cannot return to the launcher. I need a male to male USB cable to see if I can get a bit of ADB on it.
From the (crappy) performance of it, I can tell it has about 512 MB RAM, a dated CPU clocked at around 600-800MHz, the screen looks like a crappy TFT display at 1280x700. Lastly, this thing runs Froyo. Mine features a full USB port and an Audio in port. Not much to screw around with. Downloads are disabled in the browser, and the Menu key does nothing.
I think something can be done though. The application that controls the treadmill can't crash as it is, and if it ever does FC, the motor shouldn't stop. NordicTrack doesn't have a recovery image up for some reason (thanks, NordicTrack -_-) so that's even less to work with.
Nevertheless, something can be done. It's not really a fun thing for an Android enthusiast to pick up an Android device with such dated hardware (the tredmill itself, as just tredmill is amazing).. Plus, it was $2,100 at Sears.
---------- Post added at 08:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:43 PM ----------
here is a video of the Treadmill and the board;

USB and Audio in is on the right side of the console.
I've had my Nordictrack 9500 Pro for about a year now. Still working well for the most part (I do have messed up deck tension adjuster that I need to call support about).
Would love to be able to unlock the Android device to at least install Netflix, Pandora, etc.
I have had one over the air firmware upgrade that went pretty smoothly. Was hoping more updates would come from Nordictrack, but it has been a long time since that one.
Has anyone else noticed that the Speed Calibration utility under the iFit controls says that it isn't enabled yet? Maybe there's hope for future updates.

Greetings,
I have been following this thread as a 9500 owner as well, and looking at what has been posted and see if there is any follow up.
1.) like everyone else what startup combinations may have disabled Nordic Tracks proprietary software.
2.) the usb socket on the top of the console, has anyone had anyluck attempting a usb male to male connection on a laptop? If so what has been tried?
3.) any idea of maybe porting something over via the Ifit updates or account? I noticed the HDvideo inside of the program is pretty descent from what I've seen, and looks like the video plays in the center of main app..just a thought.
I'm looking at getting the male to male usb cable and trying to interface it with the below. .. at least curious if the cable will talk, and most likely this unit is not root so view only but maybe a start if it works.

Did anyone figure out how to get android home screen????
I read somebody was able to email themselves an apk and install it? The tablet enables sideloading? Ding ding ding! I'm going to try sideloading launcherpro or any other replacement launcher to attempt to hijack the home screen
Update: Didn't work on my c2150's tablet. Bastards.... I did however get my c2150's to boot into "safe mode" which I have no idea what that entails. While it was powering on, I held down home and back I believe was the combo.
Update: SUCESS!!! So by booting into "safe" mode, you can hit the preferences launcher while the device is booting to interrupt the ifit loading. From there, go enable unknown sources. Then launch the browser and google "z4 apk" and download it and run it. Did permanent root on mine and it worked.
ENJOY
I forgot. Once you get the device into safe mode, install "smart taskbar" by sideloading. It'll make you able to view a task bar over ifit.
EDIT: Since we don't have a custom recovery, or for that matter even a recovery at all it seems, I've not attempted gapps. Could anyone give a detailed response on how to install this? I assume just unzip it in the root directory? I'm worried about permissions, I always forget what to set there. Also, the device comes pre-bundled with busybox, fyi Another must have for this is adbWireless. I tried editing the init.rc but it seems those changes were for nothing. I'll keep people updated as I discover things etc. I'm by no means a dev, but do know a little.

Sorry - can you tell me the exact steps involved here. How do I get to safe mode and then what? I tried Home Back while powering on and it still goes to the ifit screen
You know I'm really not sure what trick it is to make it stay. I had good luck getting it to stay in android rubbing home/back/menu while it booted and as soon as I saw the android home screen, hit the preferences launcher and then grabbed the top menubar and half pulled it down. All I know is that when you get it to stick in android, its always in safe mode which is triggered by some combination of those buttons on boot. Even then it will boot into iFit, but if you go to the settings first, in safe mode, it wont exit that screen.
Nordictrack commercial 2150 Android Safemode
Very simple folks. Turn treadmill on and once you see ANDROID appear in the center of the screen, begin pressing the dashes button that is between the home and back buttons on the console. Not sure if holding down works any better. An "unable to load widget" will be seen in middle of screen once the I-FIT software has stopped and safe mode will appear at the lower left hand corner. You'll then be able to check out the various Android options etc for your tablet. Be careful in editing anything unless you know what you are doing! Wouldn't want to brick your treadmill unnecessarily. It took awhile to find the key to safe mode access, due to limited info out there, but I hope users will continue to make some progress on exploiting this device and maybe we'll be able to use it to our liking. I would like to stream my dish television to the tablet like I do on my i phone or i pad. Being able to install the dish app via google app store is what I'm looking forward to. I want to be able to watch tv on my treadmill while exercising. Please keep this thread going! I'm sure that future software updates may allow for a better user interface. The challenge is certainly in the storage capabilities in the tablet itself and the sd card inside.

[Q / development idea] Empty battery, but I still need to make a call.

TL;DR
If my phone shuts down due to low battery I want to be able to boot up into a reduced OS that would allow me to use a basic UI to utilise basic funtions like (emergency) calling / sending SMS.
I ask if anything like this is in the pipeline, and if not, can I achieve it myself using tools from this site.
Bloat:
Senario:
Imagine your battery is flat, but you really need to make a call.
No problem just boot into a phone only - very low power - mode (OS) that allows you to make a call but has very limited capabilities.
Q1) Is this possible?
I often run out of battery but really need to make a call. I need to either have a spare battery (which I do) or not run out (which I try to do).
But I am pretty sure there is a lot of power left in my battery, I just cannot access it as the Android system is a power hog.
There must be a way to boot a minimal function OS that can make basic calls, maybe as a choice from the hboot/recovery menu.
Q2) Would others find this useful
The best option is a custom built OS with drivers for the key areas of the phone and very basic UI. I think this would be a lot of work, and is well beyond my abilities. Idealy HTC / Google read this and implement one. Basicaly use the phone as a 10yo Nokia.
Q3) Does anyone know of anything like this that exists or is in development?
Another possibility would be a "safe mode" where the Android OS does not boot all the crap it usually does and has a basic black screen interface.
Q4) Does anyone know of anything like this that exists or is in development?
In a world where this stuff does not exist yet can I simulate this using a second dual boot rom. The rom would be stripped bare and all settings to lowest values.
I would also want to undervolt and underclock the CPU in the Hboot/recovery.
Turn off all the boot animations and vibrate on boot.
Q5) Do you think this would work, could I reduce the power drain enough to give myself significant extra life to boot android and make a call or two on a battery that is theoretically dead.
I own an HTC Sensation, from what I can see there is no dual boot kernel for that yet and changing the cpu values can only be done from within Android at which point it may be too late as the large power draw on startup cannot be met. (Bricked can do if from command line if I want to re-flash the kernel in recovery with 0% battery left - not sure if thats a good idea)
Q6) Anyone know of anything for the Sensation I can use.
I am a noob to the site and only rooted a week ago but I have some practice using adb and developing apps in java (none published) and would be happy to develop this idea and share my solutions if people can give me a few pointers.
Of course if you like the idea and want to produce something I can download I could also live with that.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Android tablet will not wake up during sleep

Hi all,
I have a Cube U30GT2. Its one of those cheep Asian knockoff tabs, this one based on the RK3188. I don't think the problem I'm having is hardware specific however. I'm hoping someone with general android knowledge will be able to help me diagnose it. So far as I can tell all the Cube tabs are having this problem regardless of the version of factory rom modified or otherwise they are running. Thier is no 3rd party roms for this tab yet (really hoping for a CynogenMod soon but for that company needs to release source and this is an Asian tab so ya..) But anyway, I somewhat suspect the problem is in the Kernel and with no kernel source its probably not something that can be fixed but on the off chance someone might have another idea I figured it was worth a post. Can't hurt to ask right? So, on to the problem.
The issue is that when the tablet goes to sleep after sufficient idle time, it will not wake up to any Alarms set on the Alarm manager. I wrote a very simple android app to test this just to make certain it wasn't an app specific issue. Set an alarm with AlarmManager and let a sufficient amount of time pass for the tab to go into sleep mode and it never wakes up. Hit the power button to wake it up manually and any alarms that were scheduled to go off during the time it was asleep will then trigger.
In my testing I have the receiver of the alarm modify a txt file with the current date and time. I tried setting a no-screen wake lock first thing and also a screen-on wake lock, both the very first functions in the receiver. No dice. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I have a fair bit of technical knowledge but I by no means consider myself an android expert. That's why I'm asking here right? Thanks again!

Help; i need LG L45C rooted net 10 - no way to change time!

Hey all; Im new here as could not post in this xda develop forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671430&page=3
"ROM LG Optimus Net LG L45C Only"
The bottom line is; Tracfone has altered the android on this NET10 L45C (LG) to NOT ALLOW USER to change date or time setting; only options are format of date or time. No automatic or manual settings. THey are forcing you to activate it in order for their service to make correct time. Otherwise phone is stuck on Jan 6 1980 (i kid you not) and as a result no apps can be download from google marketplace. and even youtube wont work. I just want to use the phone for non-talking purposes. Is there is way to put a normal non messed with android os like 2.3.4? Or is there a program I can use in android to change the clock settings?
THANK YOU!
ps..these were on ebay for $10 a while ago and 4000 were sold lol...so likely a lot of folks have this issue.
A temporary fix is to root the phone (e.g., UnlockRoot for a more automated process), then use an app that can set the system time. I'm not aware of one, actually, but a time sync app might do in a pinch, like ClockSync.
Wow... although who can really set the time on their phone anyways without some sort of mod? I know mine syncs over air but even if I wanted to change it... nothing built in for it.
Automatic time setting is usually a toggle you can turn off.

Turning HP Touchpad into an sort-of Amazon Echo Show

Hello all,
I love my Touchpad. It got me through College, especially with its completely underrated out-of-the-box office suite. However now it just functions as my Alarm Clock on my bedside table on a Touchstone dock.
When the Amazon Echo Show came out, I think I can saw we all laughed a little. After all, who would would want a tablet with at-a-glance information that they can't carry around with them. Then I realized, that's *exactly* how I use my Touchpad in Exhibition mode. So that got me thinking: how could I transform the hardware I already have and love into a device similar to the Echo Show.
Now, in my mind, there are three ways to do this:
a) Keep webOS and install the somewhat buggy ACL made by Phoenix Communications then install the Alexa handsfree app from the new Fire10 tablet (if I can find the APK). Basing myself on this article: https://techcrunch.com/2017/09/19/a...s-as-a-cheap-echo-show-with-hands-free-alexa/
b) Install Android 6.0+, and make the Google Assistant my Alexa stand-in. I would therefore need to find a way to port-over webOS's Exhibition Mode. Also perhaps the Prelude fonts, as I find Roboto completely unappealing.
c) Install ANY version of Android, and use the same Alexa handsfree app from a), setting it to be constantly on (no screen lock).
Given the Touchpad's aging hardware, any Android ROM would need to be fast, minimal and barebones as I don't intend to use this for much else. It does, however, need to be stable enough to not crash every time I say "Ok Google" or "Alexa".
Any tips on how I should proceed?
Thanks in advance!

Sheik

Good idea! I don't use my TouchPad very much anymore away from it being my alarm clock on the Touchstone dock.
I'd definitely try to upgrade it to an Alexa enable tablet if possible.
Will follow this thread with interest!

Quick Update:
Option a) does not work. As I suspected, the ACL simply doesn't work well enough to run the Google Assistant and listen for the Ok, Google hotword. I didn't run the Alexa app, but I suspect I'll run into similar issues with it.
This leaves me with options b) and c). I've been installing all sorts of different ROMs for the past day and I keep running into a recurring issue: the WiFi on my tablet doesn't seem to be working. It works fine in webOS, but in every single Android version I've run it gets stuck on "turning WiFi on".
I suspect I have an issue with the ath6kl driver, but I can't find a replacement driver updated for anything past CM9. Can anyone help me? I seem to be having the exact same issue OP is having in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hp-touchpad/help/wifi-wont-clean-flash-t3612062

That's what I'm currently running. I also changed the Kernel to see if that's what was causing the issue but it isn't.
I know for a fact it's not the hardware, because webOS's wifi works perfectly.

All I can tell you is that wifi works perfectly for me (and most others based on the devs-base forum). I have no problem with Google Assistant and "OK, Google" voice recognition.

Hey !
Thanks to kernel and settings found here, my TouchPad is now usable.
I plan to use it as a control screen for my home automation system, and a echo show / google home like.
You told that the Google Assistant was active, and usable on your TouchPad. Could you please explain me how did you activate it ?
I tried some tricks found on xda dev, but i'm stuck with google now...
Thank you !

Get Assistant - Root works
I still haven't been able to fix the WiFi on my Touchpad. It works perfectly in webOS, but it just remains stuck on "Turning WiFi On" on every single Android ROM iIve tried. I'm not quite sure what to do at this point
