Install SetCPU and lower your max. It will buy you a tiny bit more battery life, in theory, if that is what you are after.

I have SetCpu already, and with all the profiles and changes in advance settings, I get incredible battery life, compared to other eris, rooted and un-rooted. I just want to prolong it even more. and from what i hear, the under volting would help in doing that alot. Plus, no reason heros should have it and not us

I think he was referring to trying a hero kernel on an eris, not undervolting the eris.
The reason we dont have such features is nobody has gone in and done it. The Hero has more market penetration, so there will be more users/developers by nature.
The source for the kernel is out there, we just need someone with the knowledge and the know how to do it and post it.
Im too busy atm to think about it, got to move + work + vacation + alot of other stuff, but its an idea i have pondered, but honestly i have never compiled a kernel, and lack the time for awhile into the future to even research it.
It definitely would be cool though

I take it you have not looked in the Android Development section and seen all the Froyo ROMs for the Eris.
We have froyo roms... we dont' have froyo compatible kernels, our kernels from 2.1 will work but only with tons of workarounds to fix the roms. It's very different...

Yeah, I figured that's what we're waiting on, I just felt like being impatient today though. ;-)
If its like the inspire, you can get to 1.6 easily on it stable.

Can start once HTC releases the source packages which might be next week - could be a month - but we're at their mercy.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what overclock speeds we can get out of this.
I find it funny that we all want overclock for it tho. What can't we do with our phones right now that a 2ghz overclock will fix? ...I think I just like knowing its there.

Smartass scaling and undervolt go a long way for improved battery life.
Can any developer explain how it is possible to make a CPU faster and more effecient on battery, and why don't the manufacturers just do this before they sell it?
I understand the basics of how kernels work, but I wouldn't think you could safely double the speed of a processor while keeping it undervolted (coming from the d1)
Do they purposely underclock the kernel and used the same processors in "new" "faster" phones?

Very true. The Thunderbolt is my tenth Android phone since November 09, and in every single case, scaling and undervolting have made worlds of difference in battery life as well as speed. I'm sure that things won't be any different on the Thunderbolt. Of course, the other thing that makes a huge difference is not playing with it for hours on end. New toys always drain batteries pretty fast.

Part if it is what the industry calls "yield", that is just because they produce 10,000 1.5ghz cpu's in a batch, doesn't mean all 10,000 can run at 1.5ghz safely and stable, so manufacturers have to go with the fastest common speed In order to not waste those processesors that can't handle the full speed. Its the same thing with computers and videocards.

I have noticed so far that running SetCPU for just the scaling now is helping with my battery life, so that's at least a bit of awesome.
Hey guys. I was wondering what kernel and or ROM is the fastest availible at the moment.
I've been following the Android Developement pages here for a while, and I consider myself somewhat proficient at flashing firmware, etc.
I'm running CM7 on my Vibrant right now, and I was wanting to flash a different ROM. I considered going back to stock, but I wanted to get input on what is the fastest availible right now.
Also: what lagfixes and overclocking tools do you use? I am trying to make my Vibrant as fast as possible.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Malice is the fastest. Bullet kernel is the only one which can do 1.4Ghz so i am assuming its the fastest.
Agreed! kernel/ROM (imho) Bullet1.42Ghz/Malice2.3.1.
Another good kernel i like is Tigersbloodv3
Both those kernels OC well if ur phone can handle it.
If your phone doesn't play well with OC my personal favorite is CwK
Also, download Spare Parts from the market and set both animations to "fast"... this makes the ROMs appear much faster.
The real test is going back and forth between apps and the load time.
"fast" is kind of a floating point. As someone already mentioned, fast can sometimes be as easy as speeding up the animations.
I've had great luck with the SimplyGalaxy roms due to their ability to remain fast months after flashing.
Cool! Thanks for all the input, guys!
What about overclocking and lagfix utilities?
I heard there is an app or tool that you can overclock, but set to underclock when the phone is not in use...
Also, I was using one click lag fix on stock, is there anything like that I need for these ROMs, or does it come built in?
For over/under clocking, try setcpu from the market.
OCLF is nowhere near as good as Voodoo. Most ROMs that are available in the dev section come with a voodoo injected kernel.
Try vibrace overclocked. I guerentee you will love it!

Malice or Bi Winning W/ Bullet Kernel.
Then spare parts to adjust animation speeds. <3
I personally found MIUI to be the snappiest at 1.3 ghz.
I've been running custom ROMs on my vibrant since the day it became possible, and every time I install something other than one of Eugene's ROMs I come to regret it.
CM7 with a custom OC/UV kernel gets a 2100 Quadrant that translates to a really snappy UI and 3D faster than any 2.2 ROM.

Though, High leakage is probably the safest to start, but still could be unadapted to your device.

Awesome thanks. I'll flash now. Besides overclocking to 1.7 ghz (something I will not do) what advantages does this kernel offer over nemisis2all's OTB kernel?
First off lemme say the color change at low backlight setting is BEAUITUFL.

Yes now I see that! The color is great.
My gosh this kernel is absolutely brilliant. My phone is flying and has SO MUCH memory.
I highly recommend running the Kernel Cleaner before flashing.
Downloaded all three and testing each one. I thought my phone was smooth before, this takes it to another level. I like the color screen change in the Voodoo Control App. From what I can tell so far, this kernel is phenomenal.
If the phone froze immediately when I set the max CPU to 1400 on LL, it's probably not right for me, right?

careful with trying too low voltage because we don't have the three button cwm so if you can't even boot, you are screwed and have to flash CM7 again.

Yes guys. Please try High Leakage first. Most of us will have to use that as our primary kernel so don't get too greedy.
Can't download from xda app. The links appear to be inside quoted text and therefore are not followable
Also, how is audio volume with this kernel? I'm curious if it will do anything to help the known audio issues with cm7..
I know I'll likely get railed for this, but can anyone post a link to the most recent stock HTC kernel. I'm not near a computer and let's face it, searching from the app sucks lol. Thanks are in order of course...
