[Q] Pure, 100% vanilla 2.1 ROM? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there one out there? I mean straight up stock. White notification bar, no extra dev mods, just purely from Google's code.

i'm pretty sure that's what framework's Senseless is. although, it may not be fully functioning (however, you can find the "fixes" to most of the non-workings around these forums).
perhaps a project someone's been working on? shhh
in any case, i'll start packing my bags... i feel a move coming

Thanks, I'll try it out.

myTouch 4g Port

Has anyone ever worked on bringing this port to the Vibrant? I really love the Espresso rom, but haven't seen it for the Vibrant.
Please be kind enough to let me know if there is the Espresso port running out in the wild or at least why it hasn't been done? Is there a lack of demand for it or is it a very hard port to do?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It's the same concept as porting HTC sense. Yes it's hard. And technically, illegal to a degree.
Check out the vibrant dev section.... There is in fact a Sense port being developed at this time... In that thread there are youtube videos which the developer barakinflorida has posted showcasing the progress he has made... unfortunately, he seems to be working solo at this point in time but I have a feeling Eugene will jump in at any time... My feeling is Vibrant owners are closer than ever to having a full Sense port..
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
But when you say sense port are you talking about mytouch 4g or stock HTC Sense? Thanks to both of you for the quick response. I ask because it seems like the Nexus One its the only phone with that port. I tried it before on my N1 and it was almost good enough to be a daily driver.

Dude like I said all the answers you need are in that post, in addition I do not believe it is the mytouh4g sense port but the Desire rom version of sense, which I have heard is superior...

Lol! Thank goodness for all the projects with potential going on....

No offense to you, but I clearly stated that I am looking for the myTouch 4g port not HTC Sense. Thanks anyways. I guess we do not have a Dev working on bringing Espresso Sense to our Vibrant.

Lol, and I clearly stated all the answers including what version of sense is being ported can be found in that thread. Also, this may be considered wishful thinking but perhaps once that sense port is fully working this may open the doors to other versions of sense being ported, however this is not an easy task hence the wishful thinking...

Keyboard Switching App

Hey folks, as some of the custom ROMs for our eLTEvo's have -
a) removed Swype, and therefore removed a relatively easy way to switch keyboards (why did you do it this way HTC, why?)
and/or
b) the notification based switcher
I created a quick app, for those needing it, that I built in Tasker. Install it like any other application. When you run it, you should get the pop-up selection list of the keyboards you have installed.
Tested on CleanROM BE 2.1, and an HTC One-S running CM10/JellyBean (pre-Alpha).
Dev's - feel free to include this in your ROMs if you like. A shout-out would be appreciated. Thanks to Zach D. for testing, to Pent for creating Tasker, and Everaldo and The Crystal Project for the app icon.

Hi. Thanks for stopping by!
Some of the custom ROMs for our devices have "lost" the ability to easily switch keyboards, hence this app.

-Jerry

Well, the definition depends on your point-of-view...
a) Solely for the purpose of this app, any ROM that has been modified to remove keyboard switching functionality.
b) If you ask a Sprint rep, any ROM that didn't come on the phone, from the factory.
c) Basically, most of the ROMs in these 2 threads, even if they have "stock" in the name -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1594
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1686
d) For further definitions, you could ask a (in alphabetical order)
1) Chuck Norris (if you dare)
2) Computer science major
3) Priest
4) Rabbi
5) ROM chef
6) ROM developer
7) Shaman
8) Witch doctor
Sorry, couldn't resist item "d", but it's partially the product of having a shot of espresso in my 3rd coffee of the morning... :silly:
Anyway, thanks for asking, as you've made me realize I built the app to only install on ICS or higher. It should work OK on Gingerbread and up if I make a simple change and rebuild it...
Thanks for sharing. It's beyond me why some devs remove this functionality. Are you sure it's linked to removing swype? I see you kind of blame HTC for the switcher, but I first noticed the notification toggle when running AOKP in my OG Evo, which I'm pretty certain didn't come with swype, and fully certain had no HTC/sense coding, so I assumed it was just new to Android 4.0+

You're most welcome. I believe some devs have removed it due to user requests or as part of bloat removal (at least from what I've read, I'm subscribed all over the eLTEvo dev place... ).
As far as Swype goes - on a stock(ish) ROM, that is where you go to (via settings), in order to switch keyboards. It's the topmost button in the Swype settings. Why HTC put it there is a mystery to me... ...but I'm not blaming them.
As far as removing the notification icon, that's a totally separate mod. As to where it originated, I have no idea. Never looked at AOKP when I was still on my OG Evo - I ran either MikG or CM7, and I don't recall seeing that in CM7. Go figure...
You wouldn't have seen it on CM7 cuz that was android 2.3. But I had it on AOKP on Evo 4g, which didn't have swype or any HTC stuff. So I'm pretty sure it's just native to Android 4.0+.
Just my thoughts. I had to pop in to redownload your app cuz I lost my Evo and actually had to buy a new one. So once again, big big thanks to you.

If you just want it without their roms, here's google now. I believe you do need to be rooted for this.

Cool, but really uses the juice. It's a resource hog, at least on ICS. Since it was most likely engineered for JB, this shouldn't be a shock.

Status Bar Icons
Do AOSP roms (namely cm10) not support the google now icons in the status bar like ICS Sense does? Any way to add them with custom themes? I still see the cards listed in my notification drop down menu, just not on the status bar.

I am curious what everyone's favorite new jelly bean features are. I gotta say from using my Nexus I love the clock app. Its finally on par with HTC clock. Which is something I always go back to sense for.

Correct there are no public releases yet, jellybean is as stable as ICS in my opinion for what I use, but the developers are doing very extensive testing to make sure that the average user doesn't have any more risk flashing jellybean than they do with ICS. When it is released, its because Chad and the other guys working at the source level feel it's relatively safe and secure.

That's good top hear I've been bummed buy the lack of updates and stuff for the REZ lately. But its good to know is just because they are all working hard on getting us jelly bean. I'm pretty stoked for it to be released. I'm really thankful for these guys working hard on a device that's been such a pain in that ass

I'm thinking that rezound development is better now than its ever been. We have aosp, senseless, sense 3.6, sense 4.0, sense 4.1 and a sense 4.5 test build. That's just OS versions. There's more roms actively being updated and developed now than I can ever remember. PM me if you have some questions on recommendations or where to find good roms.
I'm currently running Ecliptic Rez with a nice kernel snuzzo and hawknest built for that rom and there's an update getting ready to drop.

I'd love to check out JB but I went back to a Sense 3.6 ROM (Rezone Redux) from Rage 1.9 because of issues with my phone not switching towers properly. I'd often lose data (especially when transitioning between 3G and 4G) and have to turn the radio off and on to get it back without having to wait forever. Airplane mode became my most used quick setting.

Sense6 Preview (no you can't have it.....yet) :P

Just some a little spoiler for those wondering if we will have sense6 ports on the DNA eventually
no, no one is releasing it right away as apparently HTC will go after anyone releasing m8 based roms
but it is a relatively easy port (well to boot and get basic functions) so its still 4.4.2; anywhere heres some screens (below)
Thanks for the peepshow!

im loving that they are bring back the green accents and whatnot. i was not a fan of the jellybean blue
yay for green!
Actually sense 5 looks better IMO, Ive used Tranquil Roms so long I cant take anything else lol.
How can htc go after anyone releasing m8 based roms. Android is open source so anyone can use it right? I understand they don't want anyone putting it out before the m8 drops but can they really go after you if you out a rom out based on the m8 after it has been released?

While Android is open source Sense is not, you release proprietary software before they give the OK and it spells trouble.
Just like when people get their hands on either Video games/consoles before the official release, they get banned or barred from playing online.

While I'd love to post mine early too, there is a bigger reason for all of this regarding Sense 6.0 in particular.
For more info on the subject and as to why this is considered stolen intellectual property, see this link for details.
I love that they added back a few small things and a few additional things as well.
There is now a native no lockscreen option, there are theme options, font type options, and I probably shouldn't spoil the rest.
None of them are ground breaking changes, but mostly well received in my opinion so far.
Anyway, read that link about the ordeal that transpired and you may better understand the legal precedence involved.
At this point the only thing thrilling about a new sense version release is when it's coupled with tweaks in a viper Rom. Sense still to this day, although I love many things about it, is the slowest clunkiest smartphone software I have used. Playing around with AOSP for a couple minutes and you realize just how much HTC has slowed down Android. I just wish it were faster no lagging transitions and such.
I think TouchWiz is the worst skin. That is really slow and ugly imo.

other sense6 roms will be posted this week im sure
since the version of the leak i got had been slightly modified (deodexed) before i got it, i dont want to get in any kind of stupid drama and bickering over who cant use whose stuff (because everyone has to get their epeen on being first out with a rom that takes all of 5 minutes to port) so i wont release the version ive been running personally....but im sure you ll see 3 or 4 other roms from other devs so it will all be good
im going to wait until a stock system pull of the m8 is available before doing anything else....and you will eventually see a viperDNA sense6 version....til then ill continue working on sense5.5 viperdna :good:
