[Q] App2SD - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'v jst got the 2.1 update for my hero on orange, uk. I want to be able to install to my sd card, but I have no idea whatsoever on how to go about it. any help would really be appreciated

Follow the guide "complete newbie guide to install a custom rom" thread in the android development section. You will need to put on a custom rom that supports apps2sd, which most of them do. Im not sure if your hero needs a goldcard tho, but if you dont, follow the first 3 steps and the apps2sd section. Took me less than 30 mins and i dont know anything about android

You're not able to use Apps2SD on the official releases. It has to be enabled on the ROM itself AFAIK. You'll need to root and install a custom rom.

This is the stock ROM, with A2SD added.

Flashed the new official rom for hero, but want Modac rom instead?

So, i've heard that when installing the newest official rom for Hero, you cannot root it the way we used to, do this prevent me from installing the modaco rom? If so, what do i need to do to install the modaco rom instead?
The Modaco custom ROM is pre-rooted so you don't have to do anything else after flashing.
Yea, that's fine, but can i just install it over the rom i already have? Or do i need to do something to prepare the phone for the new custom rom, since apparently after installing the new official rom, a new hboot get's installed which makes rooting impossible, almost, or so i've heard.
Have you look at the following thread already?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559613&highlight=hboot
That has instructions that you need to follow... And then you can flash Modaco custom.

T-Mobile G2 ROM updates, How to...

Hi Guys,
I searched the threads for T Mobile G2 updates but i couldnt find the right information.
I have the T-Mobile G2 and i wish to install custom ROMS for HTC Hero, or the STOCK ROMS. but i cant. How can I install? Can anyone help me or send me links to HOW TO's...?
Do I first need to Root the G2?
Is it even possible to install Hero ROMS on the G2?
Thanks in Advance!
gr Haru
If u wanna Install custom ROM then go for MoDaco http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552591 Read it and fallow the instruction. I have got T-mobile G2 with MoDaco ROM and its much better than factory one. I don't think there is any different betwen Hero and G2. Hardware should be the same which is the most important.
If you want to go official then you need to wait for t-mobile version ROM. Just check sometimes www.htc.com --> support.

Having root on stock rom

Hey guys,
Sorry if this is a dumb question but Evo3D is my first android phone and I'm trying to learn...coming from the good old world of winmo lol
I was wondering, is there a way to have root access on the stock rom? I basically want to be able to make use of all the great themes and apps that require root access but I want to stick with the stock rom as the base. Is this possible? Thanks a lot!
Yes there is. Go to the Development section and there are many topics on how to root, depending on if you've accepted the latest OTA update or not. Most are step by step and some even with YouTube tutorials.
so do I have to install a homebrew recovery thing to be able to install the superuser file?
Depends. If you still have 1.3 or 1.4 hboot/bootloader because you haven't done the new OTA update then you can easily use the Revolutionary tool and then it will install Clockwork Recovery for you after root.
If you did do the update already, head to Development and check some of the instruction threads.

[Q] Query on ROMS for P500 (to flash or not?)

Hey guys
I have a query from a friend who is in India (so indian ROM). Now he has a P500 with 2.2.1 android on it. He is visiting and asked me to upgrade the phone software after a year of usage. I feel the phone to be but sluggish. On connecting the official software upgrade it says V20 available or something like that BUT will wipe all data to do so. My friend is a noob and does not know much. He is pretty much set and forget. We were also looking at customs ROMS here. Now our questions are
1. Should I just upgrade via the LG software available?
2. How to backup and restore device after upgrade for this non rooted phone?
3. What is the latest android version provided by the update?
4. Should we go for stock / custom ROMS available here?
5. Which on is most stable with features?? He is pretty much set and forget.. Won't be able to troubleshoot and will possibly want all basic phone features working without (much) bugs.
More questions will trickle upon the answer of above queries
Ta
1. Not recommended
2. You'll have to root first, read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
3. 2.3.3
4. You should go for the custom roms
5. Many available here on XDA
You should visit this thread by Bytecode which is answer to most of your queries:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
And one tip! keep on reading again and again if you don't understand anything. Some things might not be so simple for you in first go.
Thanks
I have rooted the phone via Gingerbreak and installed RA recovery 1.2
now
1) Which ROM is most stable out which I can install and forget.. I m currently thinking between 2.3.7 Oxygen and Cyanogenmod port?? any thoughts
2) How to backup the current apps / data and then restore on the new custom ROM?? Is it recommended??
Ta
Ra recoverry is outdated... I recommend that you instal rom manager and get CWM Recoverry.
About which rom you should flash....I highly suggest that you wait for andy's phoenix rom next release... it should come out soon

Is it coming out within 6 days?? My friend will not be with me after that.. what thread is it??
Any alternates can be suggested which is fast and stable with all basic features working..
Ta
cosmicxperia is a good choice
stable and good rom is miks cm7 no doubt, other roms are still in repair mode
I suggest you flash CM 6.5.8 (mik_os) first.
after 3 months, you will be sick and tired of it. So then you should flash Oxygen.
I hate CM
For apps you can use Titanium backup or just copy APK files from data/apps to SD.
For SMS and call logs there are software available in market.
Sync your contacts with google account.

I was told to redirect my question here. My original post is :
Hi, my name is Anthony and I have a T-Mobile S5 running the latest version of android (I think it's 5.0.1 or 5.0). I'm kinda a newb with flashing and rooting. I had my phone rooted using towel root a while ago, but I lost that root in an update and it is no longer supportive of my phone.
I'm looking to install custom roms but before I do so, I would like to make a full backup of my current stock touch wiz so I can revert to it in case I don't like the new rom. I also would like to root my phone. Oh, and before anyone tells me that I need to install Odin, I have a Mac running Yosemite.... A lot of people have told me that I need to install clock work in order for this whole process to work.
Recap advice/how to:
1. Make backup rom
2. Root phone
3. Teach me how to flash roms using a Mac.
4. Include any other important info and links for downloads.
I mainly want to install CM12, but I still want a backup rom to revert to later
Thanks, and please don't post any hate

There is well written instructions on the web already. Maybe I could find a link for you.
That would be great. I've tried a couple with no success
Just use a windows pc... borrow one its 5 minutes to root.
Use odin.
You can downgrade to kit Kat also if u want u don't have to stay on 5.0
there are not many 5.0 roms or even customization for lollipop ,you will discover that fast.
