[MOD REQUEST] Please move em - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been a long time lurker here and one thing that I always liked was the different boards on XDA for q&a, help, mods, themes, development and so on..it seems that these much needed rules have flown out the window here since I have been spending more time on the LEO/Android side instead of the Nexus side..any chance that the boards can be cleaned up..I mean looking over the Leo Android Development section is a mess.

Sub forum for Android / Linux development?

Hi All!
Do we need a sub forum for Linux / Android development for the HT2 now? The old thread in the HD2 ROM development sub forum is starting to become very cluttered. The amount of topics discussed in that single thread could definitely benefit from being split in many separate threads. I guess the information will be easier to find and the amount of "stupid" questions reduced.
I understand the need for cleaning up some of the sub forums here on XDA (that is actually the reason for this post), but I don't think moving thread out of their context is a good idea. The question asked in my post relates heavily to the ongoing development for the HD2, and will not get the right attention in the Q&A sub forum. People interested in (or having an opinion about) splitting Linux and WinMo ROM development does not frequently browse the Q&A forum.
This post is not of that type where I'm interested in getting a single clear and cut answer. The reason for posting the question is to hear peoples opinion, and maybe getting a discussion going regarding the subject. If I'm not totally wrong, discussion is what the other sub forums are for, right? If we are not allowed to ask questions in other forums than the Q&A, how are we suppose to be able to discuss and debate then?
Could any MOD pleas consider moving the thread back to a forum where the question would have a fair chance of getting some qualified feedback?

100% with you , it will lessen the clutter and make the project look even more serious !!!
I don't think they're far enough along to really need a whole subforum for it. Maybe once we get a halfway usable version of android in a couple months, but for now I think the one thread is enough. I mean, how many different threads could be made for it right now? All we have is a bootable android with no drivers so far, so there's not many different things or subjects that could be made into threads right now.

I agree. Once the wheels are in place and we have workable drivers, then creating a subforum would be ideal.

Well, then we disagree
I think it should be locked so only the guys working on it can post

Right now one thread is fine, but when things begin to get underway we will need another subforum for alternate OSes for the HD2.

NO WAY is it fine take a look in there now and look how many pages been posted asking the same crap in like 40 mins n00b retards
maybe something like this could work in the future:
---HTC HD2 Android
--------------------Information (locked forum)
--------------------Questions
--------------------APPS & tweaks
No use the wiki for the android project not more forums
answer:No, I'm fine with the single thread in HD2 ROM dev sub forum.

i would be fine if it were a single thread, but it isn't, people are starting threads every few minutes 'why cant android run' 'how to install android' 'help, bluescreen' and on and on and on.

i agree 100% , of the 2898 posts there are probably 800 posts " i get a black screen "
Its all about whats hot now
6 months ago alot of posts were when is android going to be working on Hd2?
a month ago nearly all the posts were new cookie clocks
now there all blue screen, once its fixed and more stable releases are brought out the posts about this will drop down and the next new thing will be flooding the boards. its all about whats hot at the moment and in the future android wont be the hot'st thing

Broken out by CDMA/GSM?

I understand not having two whole sections for the RAZR, but man, it's hard to look at the Dev. forum and not think a separate sub-forum for CDMA and GSM respectively would be massively useful.
The forum layout isn't the greatest layout for this kind of information to begin with.
where would u put the CDMA&GSM-compatible threads?
I think it would be a big help. I think the Dev section seems to be very cluttered and could do with a good spring clean! There's quite a bit of irrelevant stuff and duplicated stuff also (probably due to it being difficult to find answers without spending time looking through it all).
Could do with deleting duplicate stuff, having a tidy up and a few good stickies with maybe a FAQ forum.
Previously I had a HTC Wildfire and the forums on here for that are quite well organised (still not perfect but better). Don't know if there's anything we can do about it though...
I think there should be two development sections for the RAZR. CDMA and GSM.
Its to Cluttered mixing them together
Xperia x10(Feralabs Rom) After trying all roms it was my Fav.
Now on the RAZR.
I see you Drinking that ¥Hateraid¥
Not hating. Love this place, just a tidy-freak

[Q] Why not use android versions instead of development and original development

Hey guys. I know I may be a noob but I've been doing android development for the past 3 years and following your forum for quite some time.
Now that ICS is out and there are quite a few developers building roms for it, why not separate the the forum into ICS roms and gingerbread roms? It seams a lot more sensible and organized to me than organizing by android development and original android development.
Any thoughts?
Been asked probably half a dozen times over the past few months & the answer has been no every time. As to the why of that, search for those other threads & you'll see a moderator or two explain.
In a nutshell if you have not read the stickie .
Android development
One Original development
Two Not Original development takes bits from others and stick them in a rom and usually heavily themed .
Eventually GB development will die off so that's going to be a dead forum .
What the point really just like the OP posted in the wrong section .
jje
I understand the difference between original development and non-original development but at the end of the day they're both ROMs for the same phone and the same software version of Android.
The big differences come between android versions. I think in terms of organisation it makes a lot more sense to organise forums by what users will be interested in finding and I believe people are more interested in which version of android a rom is running rather than if its an original development or not (not that this isn't interesting by itself but versions are more interesting imho).
As for it becoming a dead forum later, I think everything eventually dies as technology advances, not just roms but the phone models themselves so sooner or later all forums will be replaced by newer ones.

Your suggestions would be fair enough if this was a users forum. But as it's a developers forum, the way it's setup now works just fine.

Xda rudeness

I know many may disagree. But I need to get this off of my chest. I get tired of people that don't want to help or or are just rude about giving advice. I thought forums were supposed to be a community of people that are here to help each other, not belittle them.
I understand that some questions are obvious and sometimes people don't do enough research before asking questions. But here is my opinion: if you don't want to give an answer other than the typical "do you know what Google is?" Or the ever present rude comments then keep it to yourself.
The whole idea of how a person can be rude on the internet without any sort of consequence because they are sitting behind a computer or a phone or what have you is disgusting to say the least.
The concept of being kind to each other is nearly gone in this world...

It has a lot to do with placing a tremendous amount of value in something that really doesn't mean anything all, one's ego. If some people got over themselves and spent the same amount of energy to help as they did to be snotty and cocky, this would be a much better community to learn together. Instead some would rather hold on to their knowledge as they think it elevates them. Get over yourself and contribute. This is a community, not a place of worship.
Thank you for taking the time to create this thread.

Also these ppl fail to realize is that even tho the question has already been answer it makes easier for noobies to find the answer without sifting through 500 pages.

This doesn't belong here.
This section is for General topics concerning the device itself, there is an actual xda General section to post general topics concerning all of xda.
this is a development site first and foremost, not a help desk, you're perfectly ok to post your questions in the q&a section, and most roms should have an accompanying q&a thread so as not to have the same questions come up making reading the thread to see what DEVELOPMENTS have occurred get buried in a mess. If that were adhered to more it would go smoother.
Furthermore there has been a depressing shift in the user attitude as of late that is kinda burning us old timers out.
Instead of working with devs and getting a nice feedback, a vast majority is demanding and entitled.
Like the post a couple above me
...You know the answer just answer me, otherwise shut up...
Whereas it should be
"You've worked hard let me put forth a bit of effort so you can have some spare time"
TL;DR
you say they are rude for telling you to search.
Whereas you're being rude by not searching.

Ah, the old prickly problem of internet ego. I can say anything that I want because I sit behind this keyboard and am not face-to-face with the actual person. I love you!!, I hate you!! You are a genius. So stupid, smh. So easy to type these things. Very few have the cojones to say these things to someone's face. Hence the dawn of the e-peen.
Sorry to say that it is here to stay. I believe it first showed its head shortly after Al Gore invented the internet. In fact I think that his e-peen was the one that first broke through because, well he invented it.
When I first came to XDA, I knew very little about Android. I knew what Root was and that was about it. So I read and read a bit more. The phone I had was released and abandoned on Éclair (no app2sd), a locked bootloader (wtf was a bootloader) and only had 256 RAM and 512 ROM. Not a lot of space. So we had to repartition our extSD card to create a partition to where the apps could install. That meant learning how to partition/format an SD card, learning the scripts to run it and then the actual install with terminal. It took time. Fortunately there was a few people in that forum that helped as much as they could. No one was spoonfeeding but rather spurring a possible future dev. Plus they we just being nice.
Fast forward 2+years. Android has gone from a niche market (Donut/Éclair) to a superpower in the market (GB/ICS/JB). Everyone knows someone who has an Android. Before this boom, it was all about Nokia, HTC and Blackberry, none of which used Android as a platform.
With fame come the masses. Like I said above, everyone knows someone with an Android device. Teenagers, business people, grandparents,...heck I've taught my two young sons how to root their Nook Colors and they are in K & 1st grade. Guess what site is almost alwasy at the top of any Android Google search? ---> XDA-Developers.
The best thing that I can tell you is that if you can help, then please do in one of two short posts. Anything beyond that, then they need to do more research and reading. It doesn't cost anything to answer, but if someone responds with a snarky remark and then it escalates, well that could cost you your privileges of being able to post here via infractions and bans for flaming. No one wants that. Steer the questions to the Q&A section and out of the Dev section(s). The Q&A sections is a "dumping ground" so to say. It was created to relieve the non-development posts in dev threads. It works, if use correctly.
Searching is Rule #1 but there is also Rule #2 about being Courteous and Flaming. Just because they are #2 doesn't make them any less important.
tl;dr Answer if you can in 1 or 2 posts. If not, then direct to Q&A. No flames but try to be nice about how you respond.
Didn't mean for this to be so long but I see this thread at least 10 times a week.
Thread Closed
Oooh wait, I forgot something. One way that you can help people that are actually using the Search function is to put thread tags at the bottom of the threads. That way when someone searches, maybe that thread or issue will pop up. I just checked the Dev section (not OrgDev) and in the top 10 threads in there, not a single one has any Tags in it. Could be useful to put some in there, don't you think? Fixed a problem with GPS, then put a tag in there like "GPS fix on pg 152". BT now works, put a tag in there that "BT is working on this ROM".
Al Gore didn't invented the internet? And Woody Sir...I love You!:silly::silly:

Q&A Bot

I would like to direct this to the Moderators or any other higher ups that need to get involved.
This Q&A Bot thing is rediculous.
It is posting in seemingly every device for every rom. Stating to direct all questions in regard to a rom in Q&A sections in order to keep development from getting clogged up.
All its doing is clogging up Q&A.
I thought the concept was, if it is a question within regards to a specific rom, that's what the thread is for?
If it is a device specific question, then it goes to Q&A?
When you click to view Q&A Bot profile, it comes up invalid. Is this a new system generated thing to organize the threads better?
Not working. To me it is just as bad as having an ad pop up.
Honestly, I find myself wanting to come on here less. I come here in attempt to help others if I can. An attempt to return favors that others have done for me. What is the point of Q&A Bot to create a thread it cannot support or will not respond to?

The Q&A bot only comes into action when a new user tries posting in the development section. As you know, new users can't post in development threads. So the Q&A bot makes a new thread in the Q&A section so the new users post can be read.
I can see where xda thinks this is a way of getting newbies heard and keeping development threads clean. But when you boil it all down it actually creates clutter and disarray. Because after all isn't XDA a development site? Therefore all threads here are considered development threads in my opinion.
In my opinion only recognized developers should be able to post in development threads. All development posts should have links to respective Q&A threads. Leaving development threads clean of everything but the dev's posts. This way the dev can post tweaks, bugs and tips that are easily found without going thru 100's of posts to find solutions. The dev can monitor the Q&A thread and answer questions there. When a valid question arises the dev can answer it in the Q&A thread. Then make an update post in the development thread.
What do you think?
If only people with "RD" status can post in the dev section this device and a lot more others would be pretty boring to own. I agree with @captemo those threads are cluttering the place up and are a bit annoying, plus I thought there was a 10 post count rule that prevented new users to post in the dev section? is that rule no longer in place or something or is it being circumvented in some way? I get the point of those threads in order to help out new users get the advice they seek and all but honestly its seems like a lot of users now a days don't bother to read a few pages of a thread let alone use the search function , and want to be spoon fed. Not trying to be a d-bag or any thing like that but it gets a bit out of hand at times seeing the answer they seek is just usually a few pages back from the last one. OK my ranting is over lol....

i agree with some of what all you have said...but with that said.
our Q&A section is already a mess. The only one ive ever seen that wasnt is in the epic 4g touch forum, and thats because they had a member create a noob friendly support thread for all questions and roms. And the members, myself included, made sure questions were posted there and not just making a new thread for questions that have been asked and answered. It also allowed the more experienced members to have a place to help that was easy to find and point noobs in the right direction.
if you guys are interested in starting and supporting such a thread. i would look at the e4gt thread for ideas how to set it up...or u can look at the one i made and support in the galaxy tab 10.1 forum. Here is the Link to mine, as i cant seem to get a mod over there to sticky it.
These threads should give you all a nice idea about how a similar thread here would help, if used and a mod stickies it so it is always seen by new members.
as im soon departing this forum for a new device..i will not start such a thread. But will always stop in to help support it.
Have a great day,
Gil81 ( John )
