yes the famous warning storage is full.
what is it with this? yeah i've deleted everything out of the youtube folder and ran cleanRAM, even soft reset and still get it. had it before but nomally working again by now. just what the hell you suppose to do.
while im on the subject of storage just suddenly getting the phone memory critical warnings too which appear random. dunno if its anything to do with it but youtube hasnt worked for week whereas this only started today.
why the hell do you get the storage space warning when you havent put anything new on your phone? i dont even touch the phone storage only use sd card anyway. cleanRAM always tells you youve saved x amount of space even if you run it twice?! i dont believe it because it doesnt help anyway.
It sounds a little bit like your under the impression that clean ram will free up storage space?
Clean ram will not free up any phone storage or clear your youtube cache...
Sorry if you already know this, it just sounds like that from reading your post.
If your phone memory is low then I would guess that youtube will throw up that warning even when the youtube folder is empty...
Do you reguarly clear things like the album and opera cache??
If not then I would try that and see how it goes....
Hope that helps...
magic, emptied the opera cache, cheers. just i have heard people say to run cleanram if youre having problems with it with youtube.
how do you empty the album cache?
Im not sure where it is im afraid, I use sktools to clear all that crap.....
Theres a free program called cleartemp, try searching for that.......
You might need to actually find the cache and add into the list of places to clean though...
the cache is in
mydevice/application data/htc/htc album
that should give you some room
great help thanks - emptying the opera cache did the trick

hi,how do you clear the opera cache? thanks in advance.
as mentioned cleartemp will be your help.
Want more control, prapared to pay? use SKTOOLS, I use the full version $19 , well worth the money for me, There is a free version, I do not know if that is not limited somehow (trial of full version is... only first 6 items will be cleaned))

After finding out my internal storage available space was getting low much faster than it should, I deleted the cache from google maps, opera (and moved its location to the storage card), but I can't find a way to move the cache from the HTC Album.
It takes around 30Mb on my device, and if I delete it, it'll just get back to that size in a few days.
I know I can just delete it every time it's too big, but I'm guessing it makes the albums loading faster, so if it's possible, I'd prefer not to delete it, but to move it to the storage card instead.
Is it possible to change the default location of the cache?
Thanks
This would be good, I too ended up wondering where all my space had gone only to find the HTC ALBUM cache folder taking up 20MB
Ditto^^
I find it strange because this would ultimately lead to a completely occupied memory over time (given you take enough pictures). You'd think they thought about that...
I can't seem to find anything about this, and after looking at the registry, I didn't find any key that seems to control this either.
Is there so few people bothered by this?
i am as bothered as you (and running with very few storage left), and wait for a solution. Putting the cache not on the storage card was quite dumb from HTC given the very limited storage. Unfortunately, I am a solution leecher, not a seeder.

Sorry, probably a noob question but how did you do it for Opera ?
Thanks in advance
It's in the camera settings. Start the camera; select the strange box on the bottom left with an arrow on the side; hit the "settings" wheel - looks like a cart wheel; then you should have a big box in the middle of the screen with settings options; now select the lower left hand box labelled "storage". When you have the "storage" option with the picture of a SD card then that's where the photos will go.

For Opera, it's not too hard.
Open Opera, and type "opera:config" in the address bar.
You'll then be in the config page, find the section "User Prefs".
In there, you should find something called "Cache Directory4". Just change that path to any directory in your storage card (for example : "\Storage Card\OperaCache").
Cheesy Dave : Thanks for the answer, but as johncmolyneux said, it's the cache I'd like to move to the storage card (which contains the thumbnails of your images along with other information).
The pictures are already going to the storage card.
Thanks for the reply !
Hi, whoops - sorry I misunderstood the question. Now where is the cache kept ?
I did think the question was simple; but, I thought it might help to explain the settings in the camera.
Confession: I've no idea where the cache is kept. Must explore ...
It's kept in \Application Data\HTC\HTC Album\Cache\ in the internal storage.

LoL
A bit off topic; but the same cache problem applies to the google maps and youtube applications. Offcourse we could always empty the cachefolders manually now and then, but I would still like some kind of tweak to solve this problem.

I wish I knew
Concerning Youtube I don't know how to do it, but for Google Maps, if you get a new version of Google Maps and chose to install it on the storage card, it will put the cache on the storage card as well.
this came to my attention last night when my phone totally ran out of storage when i wasn't actually storing anything on it. i had about 50 mp3's and 10 pictures but all on the storage card. as i didn't know what to do i reverted to clearing the storage which essentially reset it.
i cant believe this problem isn't topping the forum its a massive issue for me. i monitored the storage during a web browsing session this morning. i lost about 10meg of storage in 20 mins and this wasn't cleared when i ended the session. what i dont understand is opera is set to have a 4 meg cache limit. even if someone works out how to transfer all the cache files to the sd card it wont really help as it will eventually fill that up. is i did very little with my phone in the 1st week of owning it other than surf im fairly sure it must have nearly all been browser cache. 130mb of it1! so in fairly sure it will just keep munching and munching storage.
i now have a very tough decision to make i love this phone but i have 24 hours to send it back to o2 and swap it for something else. whats everyones opinions is this likely to get fixed and how long will it take? or should i give up and get an isheep?
Surely htc could just add an option in settings to empty all cache, or auto empty
@jimsteach
A few posts back up this thread there are instructions for moving the Opera cache to the SD Card - it's pretty much an essential in my book given the storage situation on the device.
I too have trawled the registry trying to find where the Album cache is set, but it looks like HTC have modified the architecture and/or use of the registry in building Sense. I'd also love to be able to move mail to the SD Card, but the normal tweak doesn't work for that either.
The location of album cache seems to be hardcoded in HTCAlbum.exe. The Unicode string "\Application Data\HTC\HTC ALBUM\Cache" occurs 7 times when searching in the file with a hex editor. This weekend I will try to modify HTCAlbum.exe and insert a location to storage card.
What puzzles me most is the size album cache can grow to, it seems almost unlimited. I mean, I have never seen any complaints with other devices. The only reg key I found is "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum:cache_serial". Does anyone know what this does?
And another key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory\FATFS:EnableCache"
Anyone?
Is there ANY way to increase Device storage on HD 2 (Windows 6.5), and not to hard reset the phone after that? I really love apps, and I've installed pretty much all the neat cabs that I've found among tips and tweaks here (and elsewhere too), and when it was possible - I've installed them on storage card, but some of them doesn't work that way, so I had to install them on Device...And add to that bunch of programs as Freda, BsB, Cookie Home Tab and Editor, SlovoEd Dictionary etc....And, I've already taken care that all of my music, videos and pictures are placed in SD, My documents. But, whatever I do, THERE'S JUST NOT ENOUGH MEMORY ON MY DEVICE STORAGE ((((((((( !!!!!And it's always critical...HELP ((please.....
you need to clear the cache memory of opera , HTC ablum ..... etc ...
Use the Clear temp .... it takes care of all this temp memory ...
I too had same problem .... its so buggin with no storage memory space in the device ...
Since I am not able to post outside link ..... ask the same question in facebook ,,, in HD2Apps link ...
Thanks for the advice! I've found Cleartemp, installed it, and cleared junk...gain about 7MB of space :/ :S (OMG, I'm going to kill myself)...and just found out that the international HD2 (the one I have) has only 448MB of RAM, and 512 ROM, that can't be increased ... While USA Version has 576MB of RAM, and 1GB ROM which is much more cheerful..And what's the point of my SD 16 GB (with 6 GB of free space), when my phone isn't working properly with critically low Device memory...Now, that's sad ....

don't get depressed, you can install most of the apps to the storage card (and keep in device memory only the system ones, as e.g. cookies home tab etc.), then search xda forums for tweaks to move internet explorer and opera cache files to storage card, use clearttemp from time to time (or invest in MemMaid), and you should not lack memory any more

you should install cleanram as it helps free some ram...also get cleartemp as it'll show you what's eating your space up like googlemap and youtube caches so you can delete them easily...and finally don't forget to soft reset
the next tip helps MOST
one more very important thing which saves a LOT of space if you're on stock rom or your cooked rom doesnt have it(highly unlikely) is moving the album cache...read the thread here and look out for 4tune's cab
you should also read tboy200's thread and look at tips 65 and 67
Thanks, this was very helpful ... I'm happy again ! I've already got tired of reseting my phone..twice a day minimum
I am new to android , being a WM ex-pat, so forgive my ignorance. Had this new phone a couple of weeks now and have encountered a big problem with it. At first it seemed fine, but after a week it ran out of internal sd memory, despite only having 250mb worth of stuff on it, the1.7 gb was full.
Cut a long ..etc. Seems sd/android/data/com.cooliris.media/cache/hires-image-cache ,is the culprit.
Every time media scanner runs it fills this cache folder with DUPLICATES (I suspect) of what has already been scanned, instead of adding only new stuff.
consequently the internal sd memory fills in less than a day.
I figured that rooting was the answer, so have successfully rooted, (with help of this forum, ) and tried using autostarts to disable media scanning , but , of course that means I cant access any media without it running. Since i havent been able to find an answer to this anywhere else, wonder if someone could tell me how to
sort this problem,?? (as its driving me nuts!!) Thanks folks.
sorry,don'know why
I don,t know why but since you know how to root then maybe this can help :
1. Install Titanium Backup from Market, the free version is suficient for the task. From backup/restore tab above, find "Gallery". Tap on it then select freeze. This means your Gallery app is still intact but won't run anymore.
2. Delete your culprit cache
3. Now as an alternative to Gallery app, you can use QuickPic from market.
Well, hope this solves your issue.
Thanks Distan7, - Took your advice and it done the trick!! (so far at least!)- (Had to get Tb full tho, as lite doesnt allow freezing!) This method beats my recent solution, hands down, which was to use prog called "gallery lock" to hide media from m.scanner, but its a long winded pain to use.! Tianium backup is a brilliant app! Many thanks for your help.
You're welcome mate, sorry I forgot that you need TB full to freeze apps. You could backup then uninstall Gallery using TB free, but I fear something bad might happen. Anyway TB is a great app with lots of useful features.
Hope the trick lasts
Hi a golden rule, as long your phone is rooted, a smart idea is that if you have TB and want to unistall a system app make sure at least to back it up before you unistall it!
Nothing is true....everything is permitted...
I own an 8GB Player 5. And after I downgraded it (I came from GB then upgraded to JB and back to GB), something seems to eat all the memory... I only have 1.66GB left, and I only installed a few apps! Something is eating my memory, and I tried deleting useless stuff, but I can't seem to find what's going on!
Help me!

try d/ling App Cache Cleaner and/or SD Maid from Play and see how those help. If they don't clear yr thumbnails, try looking for and deleting those.
Downloaded SD Maid, I found a lot of unused data that's hogging my deice. I also saw a lot big-sized files in LOST.DIR, deleted them, and now I have 2.23GB left. It's a good thing, but I have 3GB used, and I still don't know how it got there. But thanks, I guess I'd better live with that.

do a format of the storage
First of all, I know this have been asked numerous times but I only got more confused of the threads that were aboout this...
My S2 has been showing the message "Insufficient storage available" for the past 8 or 9 months, but it has gotten worse since. At first I couldn't download any big apps, now I can't even download apps that are small (like 5mb). Anyway, I don't exactly know how it started but it probably has something to do with Android 4.x.x ... It has gotten really annoying because I needed to do some necessary updates on certain apps (WhatsApp for example) and I can't use them anymore because of this problem.
It's probably something with System Data. (yes I know I still have about 600mb of apps, but those are either apps I really need or apps that are on my phone as a default.) But as far as I know, I can't reach that System Data... It's just a chunk of (useless??) data that's just there. I don't really what it consists of, because the app (DiskUsage) I used to look into me storage won't let me open that map (as can be seen).
I WANTED TO SHOW A PICTURE HERE BUT I CAN'T SINCE I'M A NEW MEMBER BASICALLY, THE SITUATION IS LIKE THIS:
DATA [2015 MB]
- APPLICATIONS [574 MB]
- SYSTEM DATA [1397 MB]
- FREE SPACE [what's left. this ranges between ~90mb and ~10mb since I clear cache now and then]
I've been to a store with this problem and they basically said that there is nothing I can do... Is there really nothing I can do? I tried wiping my cache but that didn't do enough. I usually clear 90mb of cache when I do this once in every 3 days (after those 3 days I have about 5mb of space left), but like I said, this doesn't do enough.
Any suggestions? Sorry again as I know there are some threads already about this, but I looked into them and didn't really got a lot out of them...
Thanks in advance.
Did you try *#9900# on phone call menu?
From what I think, it's because of your application files. For example if you always use whatsapp(what I mean here is, if you keep on chatting), it'll store your chat messages into your phone memory which will 'eat' your memory bit by bit. And also, this is from what I've experienced, whenever you uninstalled an application, let's say TubeMate, you'll see tubemate's folder(s) is/are still inside your phone.
So what I'm trying to suggest here is, whenever you want to clear some space, try to delete some of your whatsapp chats or maybe other chat apps that stores chat messages if you don't want to uninstall other app. And when you want to uninstall an application, make sure you delete the app's folders inside your phone.
I'm don't know much about phone memory, so if I'm wrong about it, correct me
p/s: If you can't post link your image since you're new here, you can put your images as attachment.

Why haven't I thought of that 2 months ago... I thought that option was only for clearing my storage of calls and texts and since I don't call or text a whole lot, I thought it wouldn't be beneficial.
I've cleared over 1,2 GB by this. Thanks for your help, really appreciate it!
