Is there ANY way to increase Device storage on HD 2 (Windows 6.5), and not to hard reset the phone after that? I really love apps, and I've installed pretty much all the neat cabs that I've found among tips and tweaks here (and elsewhere too), and when it was possible - I've installed them on storage card, but some of them doesn't work that way, so I had to install them on Device...And add to that bunch of programs as Freda, BsB, Cookie Home Tab and Editor, SlovoEd Dictionary etc....And, I've already taken care that all of my music, videos and pictures are placed in SD, My documents. But, whatever I do, THERE'S JUST NOT ENOUGH MEMORY ON MY DEVICE STORAGE ((((((((( !!!!!And it's always critical...HELP ((please.....
you need to clear the cache memory of opera , HTC ablum ..... etc ...
Use the Clear temp .... it takes care of all this temp memory ...
I too had same problem .... its so buggin with no storage memory space in the device ...
Since I am not able to post outside link ..... ask the same question in facebook ,,, in HD2Apps link ...
Thanks for the advice! I've found Cleartemp, installed it, and cleared junk...gain about 7MB of space :/ :S (OMG, I'm going to kill myself)...and just found out that the international HD2 (the one I have) has only 448MB of RAM, and 512 ROM, that can't be increased ... While USA Version has 576MB of RAM, and 1GB ROM which is much more cheerful..And what's the point of my SD 16 GB (with 6 GB of free space), when my phone isn't working properly with critically low Device memory...Now, that's sad ....

don't get depressed, you can install most of the apps to the storage card (and keep in device memory only the system ones, as e.g. cookies home tab etc.), then search xda forums for tweaks to move internet explorer and opera cache files to storage card, use clearttemp from time to time (or invest in MemMaid), and you should not lack memory any more

you should install cleanram as it helps free some ram...also get cleartemp as it'll show you what's eating your space up like googlemap and youtube caches so you can delete them easily...and finally don't forget to soft reset
the next tip helps MOST
one more very important thing which saves a LOT of space if you're on stock rom or your cooked rom doesnt have it(highly unlikely) is moving the album cache...read the thread here and look out for 4tune's cab
you should also read tboy200's thread and look at tips 65 and 67
Thanks, this was very helpful ... I'm happy again ! I've already got tired of reseting my phone..twice a day minimum

I have a problem with my O2. In <setting>, <system>, <memory>, I see that the "memory in use" in "programs" side keeps increasing, while I never installed any programs. And "memory in use" in "storage" is OK (no increase). I already tried to use "remover" but there are some files (e.g. MSGQUEUE...) cannot be removed. Any solution? What's the problem?
I join in on this problem. I looked up files bigger than 64K, but the biggest one is CompatcFlashBAckuUpNew (28,7MB). I guess that's just my calender (about 1 or 2 appointments per day) and my Contacts (about 200, but only name and tel.nr.!). Can someone help us out? Where can we get a good manual, where things like memorymanagement for dummies is thouroughly explained? The manual on the pda itself is not enough to me!
Now let me try to give you some answers....

Storage is the memory on your device where all you´re additonal Software appears. Also your files like notes and all this. (when you don´t put it to a storage card.
Programs is the memory that you have free for running programs All running Programs need a little bit of memory, so that is why this side increases....
Just go two taps in front to see the chapter Running Programs. Close them you didn´t use actualy and you will get more free memory....
CompatcFlashBAckuUpNew (28,7MB).

This is like the name shows a Backup from your Data in the file system. I´m sure you picked up at least one time the program SDbackup. I´m also sure, that this File is on your Storage Card...
HTH

LumpiStefan,
Thanks for the fast reply.
1. You are probably right on the point that the CompactFlashBackUpNew is on the sdcard (wiht sdbackup). Doing 'find' files larger than 64KB it only lists files with a little icon of a red box in a little white box beneath it - that probably means that it's on de sdcard. So that shouldn't be the problem. Thanks.
2. There is no additional software installed. When I stop all running programs on the 'Running Program List', I have a total main memory of 31.21MB. Free storage memory = 0.93MB and Free program Memory = 1.21MB. The only removable program is the keyboard driver.
greetings,
Lionel
Don´t know where this came from.....
Probably you´re syncing your emails with your PC and also syncing the attachements. This may be an possibility why your Memory is so low. Have you tried to save the attachements to the storage Card?
I´m using my xda for a while now, haveing also about 200 Contacts and installed the Tomtom-Software. My totaly free memory is about 17 MB...
Regards
Stefan
Many thanks Stefan,
I can now be sure that something is wrong with the memory. I've been wondering about this for a few months now. I have no more mail synched with my xda and before the attachments were indeed saved to storage card. I'll just do a hard reset and start all over again.
greetings,
Lionel
Thanks Stefan,
I managed to fix my problem, but if I explore the content of files, I can see big files which I don't know how to erase??? (e.g. MSGQUEUEDATA/MICROSOFT/...) Any solution?
I see a lot of talk about the memory and how much is available. but I was wondering about installation of apps-
1, Where are they installed to?
2. How much room is there for them?
3. Is this shared with the RAM memory?
I'm keen to upgrade to an Android phone, but if the app storage is small then this would put me off.
So far app storage for me has not been a problem and I have been downloading a few. I have 102MB still free. Not sure how much was there to begin with though...
The memory for app storage is separate from the RAM - like it should be on WiMo and Symbian handsets.
If you root the Hero you can store apps on the SD card, though I have not done this.
I think unless you go on a download frenzy, you will be fine.
Most apps will allow storage of their cache / data on the SD in their settings menu - such as FeedR (RSS feed app), Twidroid (Twitter app) etc.
it really is nothing to worry about...i had to test a magic for my work a few months ago and one of the tests was to fill the internal memory and then try and use the phone...they'd had issues with windows mobile obviously....and it took over 130 apps installed before it got anywhere near full and still it worked fine for standard use.
seriously, unless you are installing EVERYTHING, then you'll be fine!
That puts my mind at rest. Thank you.
If you do run out of memory, you could always root it. Not that im advocating that or anything ;P
Does anyone knows how to reclaim more memory from the phone ?
It is using too much memory without any program running.
This may be obvious, but did you try removing programs from /Windows/Startup?
The best way would be for us to have a cooked rom!
Move IE caché to Storage Card?

As known, there are two memory areas: Storage and Program.
You can save storage memory by installing on Storage Card as many apps as you can.
You can save program memory soft resetting or, less radical, by using a program to liberate memory as MemMaid or sktools.
Don't forget to clean all the cachés from I Explorer, Google Maps, and so on.
By the way, on former devices I was able to move the I Explorer caché to the storage card using MemMaid or Sktools, but I can't on TG01
Any Idea?
I assume he was talking about RAM (Program Memory).

Yes RAM, I was trying to install Manila 2.1.
But thanks to you all for your reply.
Yeh little ram is big problem fir us all
Try rom in my signature FFBOY's 6.1, 110mb free at boot clean, about 70mb with sense installed. Also phone is faster than ever!
With this ROM
the ROM(*) with the dymanic page files seem to be consistantly fast, even though the free ram figures are not the highest, the performance of the device seems good
(*I'm using one of Novembre5's ROMs)
hi there
my hero is showing low on memory icon of the top of the screen
how to solve it
please help
By deleting some apps
i uninstalled some apps but is there any other solution so that it doesnt gives low memory error
If you uninstall some apps you will free upp space on the phone. If you want to keep all of your apps you can use something called a2sd (apps to sd). It will allow you to install apps to the sdcard where you have more space. Search for it. There is alot of good guides out there.
One thing tho, I noticed i got the low space warning, so i clerad som cache etc, and got about 5 mb more.
However when i did a full wipe and installed the exact same apps I had about 15 mb more free space. What took so much space?
Hello!
Well the day came, my phone storage is full. Now I'm asking for some tips on how to free some memory. I tried to install all I could to SD but for example Fpesece didn't work until installed to device. It seems that Windows folder takes most of the memory so is there something not needed by the systems. I have deleted all the wallpapers and music and old opera version exe and everything remotely useless. I now have 22MB free out of 175MB. How much free space is needed for system to run smoothly, Youtube stopped working when I had less then 10MB free.
And I haven't installed all that much programs to device, some minor tweaks and Fpesece so it makes this even harder to understand where the free space has gone. And the obvious, all my mails, txt and so on goes to SD and I have been using the phone for 5 months already.
Appreciate all help!
Download "sktools" or "pocket mechanic", something like that anyway and run the cleanup option, that should give you some breathing room.
I usually only have around 50mb free after the weekly cleanup.....

With my HD2 I found I would continually run out of space. The culprit turned out to be the Opera Downloads directory (/windows/opera/profiles/download).
I mention that because although Opera showed no files in the Downloads directory via Opera settings, when I actually inspected the directory there was about 80mb of files in there.
Deleted the files and moved both the Opera cache and the Opera downloads to the storage card via the opera:config settings and I no longer have a problem with the main storage space filling up.
The other thing that did make a difference was specifying in the mail app that attachments should be stored on the storage card as well.
also googlemaps cache.thats the biggest culprit....install gmaps on sd card and remove the files on device memory
