That's exactly why I think the fact he ran Android from SD allowed it. Even then, if its possible id switch back and forth between the two, not try to run both. We'll see tho.. NOTHING is impossible with these crazy lil phones lol

well to start is there anyway to even port winmo to an android device or something that will wipe android and run just straight winmo because after that would be the easy part
how bout an iphone port?

Lol Yup! Exactly why I want to see if its possible/probable. Even if I have to pay a dev to see this. Wouldn't mind at all.

They prob could. Apparently HTC winmo phones can dualboot android or winmo during the startup... so there has to be a way to dual boot winmo on an HTC android device. I watched a video on YouTube that named 3 different devs that made this happen. Thinking about finding them and asking

what videos are these? i was able to find the ones that had android running off the sd card and then you were able to choose autoboot fastboot winmo and android?

That's the one I watched. It's like you said, android on the SD with a winmo phone. Theres an exe that shuts down winmo, and apon reboot you can select either.

Lol ive seen some of your posts, and you clearly hate Android so I know your def trying to find an answer. The HTC tilt2 on tmobile is a winmo phone. Apon running an .exe that shuts off winmo, you can dual boot into either OS. My theory is that if an HTC phone can have its main OS shut down, and run another OS (android) from the SD card, then couldn't an HTC android phone (eris) somehow have android shut off, and then dualboot either winmo from the SD or Android. It seems/sounds like a plausible theory, and really is just the reverse of something that can already be done, but want I need is insight from both OS's devs as to how or why this can work, if at all, and how or where to start. If it can and its an issue of time, id be happy to pay or help in any way possible. I could care less if I mess my phone up, I just want to see a dualboot function for HTC android phones. Doesn't even have to be winmo necessarily (although preferred lol), I've even seen some ppl trying to work on Ubuntu for Eris. The possibilities are endless, its just a matter of figuring out whos capable of starting a project like that.

You don't NEED a data plan , but TMO will make you get one ...
WinMo is not , well trying to say this without insulting you, as "Fisher Price" as the Iphone is, the interface is more powerful but not as intuitive.
The HD2 is a great phone, but it really is not a toy/media player , not like the commercials tend to make it sound, it is more robust and customizable , but requires more "digging in".
My first piece of advice to you if you get one, is to get rid of the stock TMO ROM and find a custom one that fits your needs, most are much faster than the stock ROM.

Android at this point just runs as an app on top of winmo, so will not hurt your phone and pretty easy , it either works or it doesn't usually ..
The current Android builds are fun to play with , but that is about it, nothing but testing right now, no stable ROM replacements yet, could be quite a while for that ..
Ok do I have to install Linux then the android wait what's the first step coming from a stock phoneno roms flashed

NO, Android at this point RUNS on WinMO as an app, linux is not fully working yet either, and also runs as an app on top of winMo ...
Sounds like you need to do some reading on the custom ROMs and , how to flash , poke around the site , there are very good tutorials on flashing your first ROM ..
The look through the ROMs thread, find one you like that is compatible with your phone, and follow the tutorial, I don't think I could help you any more than one of the good tutorials ...

Just wanted to point out that Android and linux DOES NOT run on top of winmo... When you run HaRET, it completely shuts down the windows ce kernel and loads the linux kernel. WinMo is no longer running in the background when you're running android.
WHen a good stable (witch there alreay kind of is) android version is out with everything pretty much working, when would an atcual ROM be out so we can get rid of winmo completley? after a stable version is made, it is easy or hard to do that?

obviously android will run much faster and better with winmo not also running.
THAT is what i meant...why run two OS's?
and if android will have a full port...why change??

From what I know both OS's are not running, hence having to shut down android and reboot winmo. But Im probably wrong.
Though I too would like to know an answer to your question about a rom!

fair enough, but when i read "so we can get rid of winmo completley" it kind of makes me think your not at all happy with the os. android on hd2 is never going to be the same as having a dedicated android phone, so why not just sell up and buy a phone with the os you want the most...?

NO NO NO NO NO NO
do we have to have this **** every freaking day
Only 1 or 2 other winmo devices have flashable android roms for them out of over a dozen that have android ports, and it took years of development. And the ports running from nand don't have much of a performance boost, if any. In fact, sometimes the nand versions have less functionality because the ports still use winmo to initialize some hardware until they develop the right drivers to initialize on there own. Thats why some ports for some winmo phones need you to run a 3d app before running haret to get 3d working on android or similar things. The windows kernel is shut down from haret... its not running at the same time as linux. I neer understood why people want to flash over winmo when you could have a phone that runs both. You can have a powerphone that runs 2or 3 os's, or you can have just an android phone that is buggier and less stable than a native android phone. If you want just android and nothing else, why not just get an android phone. I would much rather have a dual booting phone.

Yeah, it will run just as well off our sd card as the nand once they get it stable and working well... that's whats great about these ports. That's why I never understood why people are so gung-ho about getting a rom flash with android... that takes away the beauty of having the android port on a winmo device... you get to pick which os you want to use... you can have apps for both. I love android, but I love winmo, also. Android can't play playstation games, which is my main method of entertainment on my phone... but there are many other games for android... AND WE CAN HAVE BOTH!!!
And yes, I think a faster memory card will speed things up during some processes, but I don't know how noticeable a difference it makes. Probably not that big of a difference, but maybe for certain actions or apps it might if lots of data trasferring is happening.

What about the increased battery consumption because Android is running off SD card? I for one love having the option of having a dual boot device, but from everything I have read so far, it is not possible to have both Winmo and an Android port installed on the internal memory of the phone. It's either one or the other, is that correct?

im using the july 22ns zimage with the v5 desire...if i m using the phone, i get maybe 4 hours...sitting there,i get at least 10-15% drop per hour..sitting there..
what do you get? what do you use?
Battery life should improve some with more development, but even the ports that are flashable to nand suffer from poor battery life... we will probably never get nearly as good battery life from an android port as we will with winmo. The port that flashes on the kaiser eats the battery 2-3 times faster during heavy use and eats the battery 7 or 8 times faster during standby. Charging can be very unstable, also... it'll randomly stop.
Once there is a flashable port for the HD2, assuming there will be one eventually, it will probably have less functional hardware at first (may be missing wifi, 3g, bluetooth, camera, or gps for example) because we won't have winmo to initialize the hardware... it will take more development to make a nand port as functional as the "haret" port.
I'm not saying that a good flashable port won't neccessarily happen, but by going on the history of these ports, I wouldn't expect it too soon. But these developers have already surprised me with how functional they have gotten this port so quickly, so they may prove me wrong. I still wouldn't flash over WinMo, though... I like having a phone that can run 2 or more operating systems. I have my 2 favorite mobile os's on one phone!

Wow, 4 hours on the newer builds is just awful...
You might wanna try a reformat of your SD card and just start all over. If that doesn't work, maybe look into the type of SD card you are using.
I have tried just about all the releases, but currently I am on:
Desire v5
Zimage 23th Cotulla
HSPL 3
radio 2.12.50.2.2
Miri v17.6 rom
Well, Im a bit new to this, but how many android ports have been developed this quickly? How many have been made with the benefit of an open source kernel and hardware that is very similar to device running android?
Seems the me that the HD2 is a bit of a special case...
HI!

is it possible? android does not run as smooth as I want it to from the sd-card, unfortunately.

Has anyone here tested the Android boot from nand? How is the battery life? When i boot android from WM it's less than a day of life, and that's with everything turned off. Didn't know if booting direct to android saved battery life.
a better rookie question is: how do i search?

There are devs actively working on it and it will be released in the next week or so. It will require installing a new bootloader called MAGLDR. I wouldnt recommend asking about it here in the forums as it's still a touchy subject. Search & Read (search for magldr) there's a LOT of info about it here on the forums. Happy modding!
thanks everybody
Be careful discussing MAGLDR though my friend. It's guaranteed to turn XDA members into epic idiots.
So I'm right about to get a new phone(and provider), but don't want to just throw my trusty Eris away. I was thinking there should be a rom that has everything but phone radio on it. Does anyone else think this is a good idea for a rom?

As everyone has pointed out, Cookieman's rom does just this. I haven't viewed the forums from a computer in such a long time, instead relying on my subscriptions in the phone app(and even then, only caring if a new version was out), that I completely missed Cookieman's thread pop up. That covers this base completely. so....I guess ignore this.

I saw that too, but i wonder if CookieMan is working on a Gingerbread build of the MP3ROM? Considering it seems GB is much better than Froyo on the Eris AND we have a AOSP GB ROM now out. That would be cool!
Hey friend, nobody says you can't make another music rom if your so inclined. I'm sure plenty of people would enjoy that.
DINC|CM7|SLAYHER#27
considered.....
I have considered it, and probably will once i have some time to actually go through the AOSP ROM AND look at Cookie's to get some starting ideas.
Also already running other ideas in my head on what i would keep/trash....
we'll see if i have time next week to start working on it.....
I think the radio should be left intact because I'm sure you'd still want to connect wifi. Just take out the phone and message apks.

That i agree, and was my first though regarding an updated ROM). A lot of media related apps use Wifi.
I wonder if there is a way to keep just the 3G/cell signals disabled this way you can still toggle the wifi and bluetooth. 3G/cell would be useless since you can't get a data only package with these phones and the intent would be NOT to use it AS a phone.
Things to think about, Peoples brains to pick...
I suppose all somebody would have to do is open up the radio file, do the modification then rezip and sign it. Modifying a radio is way above me and could be slightly dangerous but I'm sure one of these high speed devs around here could handle it. If we could get a modded radio then the rom build would be gravy.

Looks okay , But was hoping for more a Honeycomb GUI , as ive just got rid of a 2.3 Tablet to get the HP touch pad to flash to 3.0 but will 3.0 ever happen for the Touch pad ?
The general consensus seems to be that HC will not appear on the TP; as the source code was never released by Google.
What is more likely to happen is that 2.3.5 will be on the initial CM release for the Pad; with ICS being the next logical step, once it's released.
I may be wrong,
But I believe that is the long and short of it.
Hope this helps.
ugh! I would settle for 1.6 just so it is not the ugly webOS cripple.
I actually kind of like WebOS.
The not-having-multiple-screens-to-swipe-left-or-right thing takese a bit of getting used to (I'm not sued to it yet).
But I do like bouncing apps away, to close them.
That being said,
I definitely favor Android over all other O/S.

if you want to O/C again, you have to doctor 3.0.2 back on, then redo the preware etc.
as for the apps, put them in that folder and they will auto install, thats what i did, and got titanium installed (even tho its useless/keeps crashing, i had it available)
