[Q]: HD2 reboots serval times - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi @ all!
I've bought a HTC Leo yesterday.
If my HD2 is connected to my W7-PC there are no problems, but:
If I use it only with the accu, it reboots sometimes.
I tried to hard-reset - but no change.
What could cause this soft-resets?
The accu, the hardware or the radio-rom or ??
Thx in advance!!
peter
I have a shipped version:
ROM 1.66.407.1 Ger
Radio: 2.07.51.22_2
protocol: 15.32.50.07U

It may be overheating
USB power from PC only produce 500mAh,but from other source (car charger,3rd party charger or something similar) may be around 1000 - 2500 mAh
With that much power, can surely overheat your LEO
Also avoid using your LEO while charging to minimize overheating problem

Maybe I was missunderstood?
I have NO problems with charging, but with the all-day-use of my HD2!
If my HD2 is NOT connected via USB, it reboots sometimes.
thx
peter

Try TBattery apps to monitor your battery temperature.
If it is over 40 degrees Celcius then it over heat

The temperature ist NOT the problem!
I've got between 34 and 36°C

i'v same problem (reboot sometimes), since i flashed the hspl.

WM2003SE Eng 2.06 battery consumption

Hi fellas,
Seems to me that my battery level goes down faster (not much faster, but considerably faster) after I upgraded my XDA2 to WM2003SE 2.06, specially if I leave my BT on for sync'ing or play Movies/MP3s.
Any of you guys share/noticed the same situation?

Yeah i felt that too...Just upgraded to 2.06. At first i tot that i'm only over sensitive but you prove me right there!!!
Bugs! i guess. Anyone encountered this.
I really hate this coz my warranty already void and i dun want to look back....Hope there is an improved ver of WM2003SE English ROM
Battery life much shorter
Battery life much shorter , not deadly . But something to think about .
(I am not using BlueTooth).
I'm using Hack Master in which you can set a CPU scalar band, so when CPU idle it downgrades to a tested and stable 100mhz and when requiring heavy duty processing running at a stable 531mhz. Program allows you test all sorts of Ram configurations and does a benchmark comparison. So I've found my unit can be as fast at 299mhz as at 398 mhz which is the standard saving on lots of battery power. 1 full charge gives me a full days use from morning to evening including, idle, phone calls and emails etc etc.
Battery life
Yup .. me too
With the bluetooth on ... my battery goes down faster ... I thought I was sensitive ... but I guess a few of us noticing it could only prove it right ... previously using 1.72WWE ...
just as a matter of comparison, I'm using WIN2003SE CHS (2.20) and do not see any difference from my previous 1.72 ROM.
Guys, my battery goes down even with the device connected to the USB cable!
It says "charging", but the charge level drops.... :!:
Angel, some usb cables will do this if you have a low battery to begin with, try charging it to 70% then plug it in to usb cable, you may find it will charge. Is the usb cable an early one? It seems the xda 1 cable is wired differently.

Hi, I use this cable since May 2004: this odd behavior happens since this morning, as I flashed this WM2003 S.E. ROM.

Hows ur BATTERY LIFE in YOUR present WM6 ROM?

Please POST your battery life in each ROM you installed? lets monitor in each pagepool and each AKU. *Note-i hope in each ROM, you install the same program that you have*
WM6 6mbpagepool AKU 0.7= my batt life is only 1 day
WM6 BETAversion AKU0.7= my batt life is 2 days
WM5 AKU3.3.3 = my batt life is 1-2 days
normal calls a day 20 calls 2min/percall
Telstra JAJAM LIfe
Hi. JASJAM Telstra Australia was:
WM5 - Radio 1.38.00.10 -- Battery generally flat by end of work day about 4hrs calls per day & activesync to Exchange server every 1/2 hour
WM6 Black satin, Radio 1,51.00.10 - Battery flat by/before lunchtime.. Cant get to end of day , even if charging when in the car with usb charger /lead.
I think I need to fix my proper imate car charger (lead broke) as it appears to charge faster when some of the extra pins in the miniusb connector are shorted to (ground?) & this is not done when using generic USB charger & a lead.
I dont know whether its a "feature" of WM6, but when the device syncs now, I see an extra 3G or H icon appear (tiny) next to signal strength indicator & it stays there unless you press & hold "hang up" If data acess remains on, that would make the battery life suck obviously... I wonder if it can be made to cut off after x minutes? I realise this is unrelated, but I have also been experienceing a failure of the windows "Start" icon & key on today screen after using the phone a couple of times & making notes in a call.
I will downgrade to Radio 1.50.00.00 I think & try it. But there were some posts about only versions ending in .10 working in some places ??
8Meg Pool WM5 AKU 3.3F - 4-5% lost overnight (8hours)
4Meg Pool WM6 AKU 6.0 - 25% lost overnight (8hours)
The only software I install is PA for both device. I going to revert back to WM5 as I had monitor WM6 AKU 6.0 for 2 days and I had been getting 25% lost each night.
well now using 4mb page pool... also having 25% lost overnight.... only install HTC home n iLauncher....
good that ur posting here the important thing like this. pls guys, keep on posting..
maybe i will go back also to the beta version of WM6 which give me 2 days on my batt.

what do u mean by percentage 80%. pls elaborate more, im trying to understand ur info.
Guys, are you sure it's not a failing battery or software that's causing the problem? I'm still having only 4-5% at night, which is my normal drain... and I have HTC Home and WBA3 running...

i just want to know where can i buy online , a cheaper but higher capacity batt.
which one ur using @ultimate? mAH?
I'm using a local brand Worcell, 1530Mah, Japan Cells. Tested to perform slightly better than the O2 supplied Taiwan battery of the same rating by me (difference of 1% drain overnight). I switched it because the battery randomly looses its charge, and had no problems since.
4-5% drain overnight, ~40% whole day use, inclusive of RSS reading and 2 35-minute bus journeys of A2DP goodness. ^_^
Without A2DP I get ~29% whole day use.
wm6 atom rom 0.3 or 0.7 = 25% overnight (without any software)
wm5 atom exec rom = 4% overnight (with WA2, HTC Home, pocket brease...)
ATOM WM6 AKU 0.7 8MB pagepool with HTC Home plugin & Touch Cube
ATOM WM6 AKU 0.7 8MB pagepool with HTC Home plugin & Touch Cube
15hours (9am-12midnite) usage and my battery is down to 60-70% of battery power left. I think thats pretty good battery life ( I switch off bluetooth though) - just normal PDA usage, SMS and some short phone calls.
Before, when I was at WM5 (with Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426-MOT0822), I didnt get such a good performance from my battery - battery would drain until 30% battery power left at end of day - but thats when I also left my bluetooth on all day.
I'm still using the original battery that came with my ATOM.
Did anyone replace original battery? where´s buy?

so ur battery last for 2-3 days?
please post also for how many days ur battery last? which batt ur using? and the normal calls duration u have in a day.
exactly what i was shouting about
wm6 8pp
if once fully charged it can work for 1 day + 6 hr
and earlier it was 3 days
I am again getting 25% loss after i hard reset and did not install Phone Alarm.
I can get good battery life.. i will revert back to WM5 AKU 3.3F to see any difference. Let me sync my data first
I am using the 4 meg pool.... anyone using different meg pool like 6 or 8.. What pool did you use to get 4-5 % loss

~2 days at the most with my normal usage. 12 hours if I accidentially leave a game running in the background.
I get pretty much the same results for 3.3F, so no difference there.
Guys, please remember that you have to redo the standard power saving tips (e.g turn off Recieve Incoming Beams) every time you hard reset or reflash your device. Make it a habit.

*Turn off "receiving all incoming beams"
*Turn off all wireless/bluetooth applications if not in use.
*Reduce the brightness of the backlight
hows everyones battery?
i will monitor again my battery for the upcoming release of new ROM. Hope jiggs can finish that soon.
as of now maximum 2 days i can use my atom with normal duration and numbers of calls i have. Im in Bank Sales, thats the reason my phone is quite busy yet i manage to have the battery life for 2days. that's better for me.

no prophet acts the same

Ok strange thing here
I have 2 prophets with same set up
IPL 2.20.0001
SPL 2.20.0001
Radio rom 2.20.21
flashed with the same WM5 the prophet touch IX
dow to the strange thing
prophet 1 26.8Mb Memory ideal at 103mA after soft reset
prophet 2 25.8Mb Memory ideal at 86mA after soft reset
so battery drain is not only related to rom but also hardware and why does one have 1 mb more free memory?
this is just a strange opservation I made
both have the same cell operator ?
If not ... maybe GPRS or EDGE is available for one of them.
Or the date of manufacturing is different.
when you look at their battery consumption ,did both batteries had the same amount of charge ? charge both of them to 100% then soft reset, then wait for os dll to get unloaded .. ( wait for 1 min) then look at their battery consumption

Hi Gullum,
I think it is because of the hardware itself since the manufacture cannot make 100% hardware similiarity.
New hardware will better than old hardware, the operational time will effected to the performance. Just like you have 2 cars with the same manufacture but different production year, the new one will better than old one.
Even they produced in the same time, the hardware not 100% the same. may be only 95% similar.
Twins person not the same also but looks alike.
Because of this hardware, so everyone who is using the prophet will have different problem.
Cheers
Well this is good news for me but bad news for some
now I know that some problems are not software related always.
and then there is no way that I can make rom that has the same power useage on all phones.
the bad news is that if the battery useage is good for some and not for you there isn't much you can do about it

Just additional information for electronic hardware.
Every electronic part has own MTBF - Mean Time Before Failure, so if you use bluetooth frequently, the bluetooth hardware will fail faster than others part.
If you charge your electronic frequently, the battery will be broken sooner.
As i know PDA battery will last after you charge around 500-1000 times depend on the manufacture. Let say you charge the battery every 2 days, so the battery will last between 1000 - 2000 days.
So everybody will get different problem with their electronics because it depend on what they have done to their things.
Cheers
Did you test both after hard reset with SIM card off ? You should give it a try
But consumption differences can easily be explained by different mainboard & components revisions & firmwares..

Well, this is not really a problem. The problem is when the battery drains an additional 50/100mA over another prophet or other ROMs..
That is for sure a driver problem.
The really strange thing for me is that 1mo !!!
Where's it gone ?
For battery drain, i always get more than 1% per hour. Until one day, i removed all my today items(in fact only device lock) and left only home plugin. After a full charge, I experienced only 5% drop over the next 10hours. I was using Crystal V3 and radio rom 2.19.21. The battery drain is slightly more when tested with 2.69.21. I am quite sure it works since I have tested this method on both G3 (mine and my buddy's).
Another thing. While it is achievable, you must ensure Activesync is not running in the background. There was once instance the battery drained 14% within half an hour and I realised it was Activesync that run in the background. Strange it does not terminate itself when i pulled out the USB cable???
Anyway the above is based on my observation so you may give it a try. Hope it helps.

Yes it's a realy strange thing I tried to swap battery and checked then change sim cards but made no differance there is still the same battery and mb differance.
Hey would you test both of them in same config (same rom, HR, sim off & suspend timeout off) with spb benchmark or any other ? Could be interesting..
It's about 1h job (disable built-in applications tests, because they often fail) for main test, the best would be to test battery too but I suppose it will be too long for you.

Another(Really WORKING) battery life hack - temp fix bug in all ROMs

After a lot of playing with T-Mobile US HD2 WP7 i found one interesting thing:
If i start camera with green button and then switch to video mode there, wait for autofocus and after that just simple go out to main screen by pressing windows(middle) or back button then standby Battery Current drops to -5-6 ma from regular -40-42 ma(minus means discharge). (Switching to video is important - if not switched no results found)
It stays -5-6 ma on standby until next reboot. If i reboot and don't do this camera play current is -40-42 ma. But if i start camera -> switch to video -> out - Battery Current -5-6 ma. To measure use Battery Tool.
After hack/trick applied I used phone in different ways - talk internet email - standby still low 5-6 ma. I gave it 12 hours try - lost only about 12-13 % of charge. Checked battery outside of phone with load - real lose of charge was about same as Battery tool shows. Will continue to test longer but can expect at least few days with some usage of phone. Did the same trick with my friend's phone - same results. It looks like really a bug some where.
This problem really exist and found in all ROMs.(a little difference between TMOUS and EU HD2)
Aug 30, 2011
FOR this trick to work on any ROM versions(including all Mangos) software WP7 radio must be lower then 5.62, so only from 5.51 to 5.61 works. Recommend to use 5.51 or 5.51T soft radio and trick will work all the time.
History Update:
As of Apr 29, 2011: Confirmed to work for most people. This has to be done ONCE ONLY if you reboot phone.
Confirmed one phone has low standby current 3-7 ma after reboot without this hack - but model of phone is ORIGINAL HD2, not T-Mobile US. ROM is HD2O 1.04.
One T-mobile US shows low standby at bootup. XBmod 1.04.
If your phone shows 3-9 ma standby after reboot without this trick - then this not for you. Your phone has good standby already.
Real battery life vary from about 4 hours(continues usage of cell data and browsing) to 4-5 full days (standby only no usage at all-just few short calls, location on, data on, bluetooth on, xbox off, wifi off).
May 17
Update:
Tested HD2O 1.12 nodo - trick works perfectly right away getting 3-5ma!!! After a day of use(not much use) - battery life is amazing!!!
Tested original NODO(YukiXDA) one more time(total two times flashed this rom to be sure) - couldn't get stable low standby - unpredictable, most of the time 40-42ma sometimes even higher. Tried so many times. I don't know why results are not so good. Update: Yuki original ROM used different WP7 Radio - 5.66 - which is not working with trick on TMOUS HD2. For trick to work TMOUS must have 5.51 or 5.51T Radio.
May 18
Tested XBmod 1.10 nodo - trick works perfectly right away getting 3-5ma!!!
June 02
Continue using of HD2O 1.12 - battery life is amazing!!!(T-Mobile US HD2) Didn't have any single stability problem for 2 weeks!!! Speaker volume can be adjusted with registry hack.
Jun 07
Update: Yuki original ROM used different WP7 Radio - 5.66 - which is not working with trick on Eu and TMOUS HD2. For trick to work for 100% in 2G and 3G, ALL HD2 must have 5.51(original DFT) or 5.51T(from Ansar) Radio(part00.bin).
From my experiments 5.51T looks a little better than 5.51 overall(not sure 100%). There is no any benefit for me of use 5.66 Radio. Just use any WP7 ROM(even Yuki's ones) and replace part00.bin for trick to work. It was TESTED on all Yuki's ROMs.
Jun 08
Yuki's v3 final works exactly the same for standby current - radio 5.66 in ROM trick doesn't work, if replaced with 5.51T - trick works as usual 3-9 ma in all modes
Jun 09
Tested HD20 1.14. Much better than Yuki's for me(TMOUS) - more stable, feels solid no stability problems at all. For the first time HD2O changed Radio to 5.66, so i had to change part00.bin back with 5.51T to have good standby - 3-7 ma in any mode 2G or 3G with the trick. HD2O 1.14 is the best ROM overall again! Overall best and battery life is amazing after radio changing!!!
Jun 17
YukiXDa made the best ROM now with V4 lang2. I have never had so good battery life before!!! I have used 5.51T(TMOUS) with trick.
Excellent work Yuki!!!
Jun 29
Yuki made even better - V5. I am able now to get to some registry enrties i need!!! Enerything is perfect for me, except too many shortcuts to all setup settings.
Hello
Yes you are right.I´ve tried it out like same way and in that second i noticed that my Proximity sensor turn on.
I mean ive set my backlight to auto, but no proximity funktion. But when i turn on my camera bla bla then the proximity sensor turns on to function and my Backlight turns brightness automaticly, like ive set it before.
Thanks for sharing this info bro.
where are u seeing if the drain is 5-6 ma or 40-42 ma?
In Battery tool - Battery Current. Start Battery tool leave it on screen send phone to sleep. Wait a 2-3 minutes or so then wake it up slide to unlock and wait 10 sec with tool on screen - it will show current when it was on sleep/standby. if you were quick enough. Do it several times you will see it. I did this tests periodicaly last month with different roms - aprox same 40-43 ma with radio and data on(radio off gives 2-3 ma and phone lives forever). I have verified battery tool is correct or not by connecting once real multimeter between battery and phone. tool is correct. If divide 1230ma(battery) by 40-43 can get at best 30 hours of standby.
May be need to wait more than 2 minutes to get real sleep/standby - it depends on previous state. After few tries you will see. Stable average of lowest figures after few tries is your standby current.
intresting....just testing now........
well bugger me sideways, it works! nice one mate
Interesting finding man! But i wished i had my HD2... Still a weird bug but promising..lol
Where can I find the battery Tool? It's not in the market.
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Here you can find. It is XAP and need side loading
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933751&page=9
Dont know for sure what it does.. but semms to solve my problem testing since 6 hrs.. still gonna test it for some more time .. lets see..
Looks like when camera closes from video mode it stops one or more of the running in background process which take some drain all the time. Probably that process should not be running at the begining. Develovers like DFT or Cotulla may be should look at it closer. Big thanks to them for hard work.
I feel like this may be finally the solution to our battery drain issue. Since I noticed that at first, when I install new rom to my HD2 the battery life is fine, but when I take a first picture with camera (or simply restart the device aswell) the battery starts draining itself. But maybe that's just me, anyways I'm gonna try this and if it works I will report back, thanks to the OP
Running already 2 full days with data on, bluetooth on, location on. Still have 30% left - real 30% verified battery out of phone. Used internet, mail, talk - all of them not too much - normal way as i need. Before this trick phone couldn't survive 24 hours.
Forgot to tell checking all the time Battery and current status take enought energy too.
Damn! This just hasn't worked for me! I'll try again, but after trying this trick my battery seemed to drain faster
I normally have it charged when I get up in the morning & have to do another full charge 2/3 of the day through. After trying this trick I had to do 2 full charges yesterday!!!
I'm going to try again as I said, but this could be due to the reg hack that doesn't kill apps, I applied.
I want to add to this post about my experience with Battery tool. It is accurate at least with ROM i have. Charge level, current and voltage. And WP7 charges battery to full. plus minus 5-10 percent(this low margin doesn't make any sence). I have verified it by discharging battery out of phone with known current. Did several times. So battery was charged to good approx 1200 ma in phone to green light in WP7. As i said at least with ROM i am using. Didn't try this with others.
That doesn't work for me neither, it drtains the battery faster than usual....perhaps it is my rom....
Try to measure stanby current as explained above. It shouldn't do anything worse - you just start and stop video camera. Unless really something wrong with ROM.
Strange, it seems to be working fine today! Thanks for the tip! I didn't do anything different, but it's working!
Hell yeah! It actually works, now I'm getting 2-4 mAh, instead of the regular 40-60. For everyone who says it doesn't, try to do the trick, put your phone to sleep, wait for like 10 minutes, wake it up and start Battery Tool again, it should show much better values then. Thanks again. Spread the word!
This definatley works for me ..brilliant find thanks
thank you very much - work for me. after all the battery threads that sounds good but have no effect for my phone.
thank you!

HD2 DRAIN BATTERY on WM7 - HOW TO FIX?

HI GUYS
IM USING RADIO 2.15.10
AND HSPL 2.08 ,
MY BATERY DRAIN VERY QUICKLY , I HAVE ALL SETTINGS OFF , 3G OFF. WHAT I DO WRONG or what i need to to to corrrect this issue.?
anyone are having the same prob??
tnks to all
there are at least 2 threads on the first page about this...
check the first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041912
i read in one of the threads that we should charge the battery in magldr usb mass-storage mode for about 6 hours, and that worked brilliantly for me...
gave me about 40 hours of battery...! (3g on / data/wifi off - data/wifi on when needed)
i try use that mode but the charger light dont show ON , is not charging , i try using the charger directly to ac power and cable directly to pc mode but nothing he didnt charge .
Radio 2.15 seem to drain battery too much (from my own experience).
You can try old radio and see if battery life is getting any better (I recommend 2.12 & 2.14)
omg my phone only hold on 11h today with low usage, i dont know how to make him stay more time alive , the raDIO 2.15 I DONT THINK is the problem because many users are using 2.15 and dont say any... any sugestion??? if i cant fix the prob i need go back to andoroid or 6.5 version

Try to use HD20 1.12 and do video trick - with low(if it's realy low) usage it will easely survive 2-3 days.
i confirmed last night that the charge trick in magldr in usb storage does work to charge the battery.
I found that when my phone starts to get lower on battery that a reboot gives me more power due to the power meter being out.
Also a charge in an external charger helps.
sorry im trying to understand how can users see the MA off batery in battry tools , im trying to use the trick of change the camera mode to video mod and leave , they say the batery consume go to very low usage , like they say here but i cant find the "MA" in battery tools to compare .
this is what they say to do
"i start camera with green button and then switch to video mode there, wait for autofocus and after that just simple go out to main screen by pressing windows(middle) or back button then stanby current drops to 5-6 ma from regular 40-42 ma. (Switching to video is important - if not switched no results found)
It stays 5-6 ma on standby until next reboot. If i reboot and don't do this camera play current is 40-42 ma. But if i start camera -> switch to video -> out - current 5-6 ma.
After hack applied I used phone in different ways - talk internet email - standby still low 5-6 ma.
Please report your results and HD2 type.
Was on XBmod 1.04, 12 radio, location on, data on, bluetooth on, xbox off, wifi off.
If this problem really exist it will be found in all ROMs.
P.S. Tested phone before with most others ROMs - found this one is the best, thanks for this ROM.
Hope this will be fixed permanently in NODO."

sorry im trying to understand how can users see the MA off batery in battry tools , im trying to use the trick of change the camera mode to video mod and leave , they say the batery consume go to very low usage , like they say here but i cant find the "MA" in battery tools to compare .
this is what they say to do
"i start camera with green button and then switch to video mode there, wait for autofocus and after that just simple go out to main screen by pressing windows(middle) or back button then stanby current drops to 5-6 ma from regular 40-42 ma. (Switching to video is important - if not switched no results found)
It stays 5-6 ma on standby until next reboot. If i reboot and don't do this camera play current is 40-42 ma. But if i start camera -> switch to video -> out - current 5-6 ma.

Yes you are right it is not show ma. Electrical current is measured in Ampers or MiliAmpers. So look for Battery Current minus when on battery, nothing(plus) when on charge. Do video trick send phone to sleep mait few minutes, then wake up and fast go to battery tool wait there - you will see. Most important is ROM type. They should be all same, but a lot of testing shows they are not the same(not big difference, but exist in standby consumption).
Want to add - if used proper ROM and this trick you won't need any external charger, because i doesn't give much(internaly battery charged very well - i did a lot of external experiments with battery charged in phone), no need to go any magldr because not help much and dengerous for battery. if you use pfone a lot you may need only charged(in or out) spare battery because it works continiously only 3-5 hours.

I'll try to play with camera modules this WE since they seems the same between HD2 and HD7. But like I've said the bug is certainly due to the flash driver or a dependency with the camera driver or pdd/mdd.
For the rest (Wi-Fi apart) there is a lot of differencies between users with the same rom. Tmous/HD2, revision number of the device, OP/ coutry (for gsm band) etc. all this count to what radio we use (HD2 and HD7 extracted) and some drivers may be not acurated.
The RIL parameters for your OP are important too beside the radio because how your phone reach the GSM network has an important impact on battery consumption.
There is a tool I dindn't know exist before and testing now which I like: WP BENCH.

Yes you are absolutly right - a lot of unknown things and differencies. It would be very good if you will be able to look closer at all this. I don't have tool, enough knowledge and actualy much time to do that. Thank you very much for your work and results!!!!!
Yes, it's true. It worked with the camera bug... Normally my battery would be empty. But now I only used a quarter of my battery life. Nice !!
