I can't figure it out, but in the last two-three days, I've had considerable slowdown on all apps and ADW menus and homescreens. Is there an easy way to figure out what is using all the resources and remove it? I have gone over everything that I have installed in the last few days and deleted most of them, but I still have the lag and I can't figure this out. From the time I rooted and updated to 026, the phone has been great and pretty fast and the batt life has been pretty good as well, but now all of that has changed, so something is killing my phone slowly. Any ideas/help/similar stories??
Thanks for your help guys..
"spare parts" gives you various stats under battery usage, you could check what apps etc have been using up CPU time - could give you a clue?
Also bug reporter will let you email the log files to yourself for inspection.
Thanks for the quick response... I totally forgot about spare parts. It was helpful and the problem has been resolved. Back to normal and fast again...
Thanks for the help...
I find that if I leave my phone on too long without restarting then it tends to start lagging up a lot. I usually have to restart every 3-4 days.
agreed.. I find the same issue-- a required restart every few days or the phone begins to lag quite a bit. Not sure of the cause though.

Could you tell what the problem was and how you managed to isolate it? Thanks

The problem seemed to be with fancy widgets, so I figured the update didn't install right, so I uninstalled it, re-installed it and rebooted the phone and everything is a-ok..
But, I did use spare parts to isolate the usage stats..
where is everyone getting fancy widgets? cuz i'm not seeing it on the market
edit: kk so i found a download for it on google. next question. you said your's recently updated.... to what version? i just got 1.2.4..
I'm sure 1.3.0 was the last version they made before they stopped..
here ya go!!

The laggy problem after long time not reboot which your guys mention was caused by applications running, i think. Did you try Task killer? If not, after a day, there are many running program in the cache and your fone would soom run out of memory.
I do use advanced task killer pro and some cache cleaner as well, but even so, I still have to reboot every few days or the slowdown problem re-emerges..
I am keeping my eyes on the usage stats in case I have some rogue program that just eats memory too often.

I have gone through countless battery reconditions, following various methods, very tediously, various roms (nero, bionix, trigger, etc.) trying to get acceptable battery life. After a lot of detective work I finally pinned down the problem to the 'mediaserver' process within the system processes. It runs CONSTANTLY and drains the batter within half a day from a full charge. This problem has been documented on google code: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6765
The process cannot be killed via any task manager as it seems to be a sub-process. So I finally mustered the courage to move the file from its directory into the parent directory to see if that would do the trick and restarted.
Now I'm stuck on the boot screen.
Can someone please help find a solution for this issue? I think I can recover from the boot screen issue but I know I will just encounter the same issue again and again.
I am currently on trigger 2.6.1.
Help?
I should also ask if it is possible to even ODIN back to stock from a ROM that has the voodoo fix enabled?
Just odin back, root, flash a rom, freeze the app with titanium backup.
Edit, n/m, just realized you weren't talking about an app. I'll read the link you posted.
I'm on trigger 2.6.1, no issues here. You sure it's not a bad app man?
As far as I can tell, no. It certainly could be but the I've been having battery issues since bionix 3 I think.
However I did read on that google link that certain media centric apps can cause it to go nuts. I am using the winamp beta app and youtube pretty heavily (although thats obviously unlikely to be the culprit).
I thought about freezing it but ya, its a sub process under the 'system processes'...process so I can't freeze it without taking down the whole thing and probably causing way more issues.
Thanks for the response though, appreciated.
Dude, winamp and youtube are going to use a lot of power.. How long is a full charge for you?
About 8 hours. I pull it off the charger at 7:30am, use winamp for music for about 1 - 1.5 hours and other moderate use. Dead by the time I leave work at 5. Get home, charge it up until I hit the gym (usually get it to roughly 50%) and listen to music, watch a couple videos and its begging for the charger by the time I get home.
Furthermore, I use the system panel app to find out exactly what is eating CPU cycles. That 'mediaprocess' thing is exponentially above everything else. So either a bad app is causing it to run and keep it running or something else is triggering it. I formatted both SD Cards per some of the suggestions elsewhere, but no dice.
seems like your getting normal battery life.
heavy usage on your phone will eat up the battery. especially watching videos.
So what do I make of the mediaserver process that is using up 40-50% of the battery? Watching videos, listening to music or not, I get the same results. I really don't think its that.
Are you sure you're completely killing the apps when you're not using them? Use the task manager and be sure the app is not running. Otherwise, be sure to freeze media hub and the DRM storage with TB. It should help with drain while the phone is on standby.

Ya I'm sure. I don't even have mediahub installed on the phone however I am going to try freezing / removing the DRM storage thing.
Mediaserver constantly running is the reasons the battery drains. I didn't know if anyone has any solution as to how to kill it, or how to keep it from running continuously. This is a known bug as shown in the link in OP.
I'm guessing everytime I open up winamp or something it starts, then never stops after that. Who knows.

Do you have allshare installed?
running Trigger 2.6
W/ dragon kernel uv/oc to 1.28
and Adw launcher ex
No sir. I've deleted pretty much anything DRM, Mediahub or Allshare related. Most of it is already removed with Trigger (ROM I'm using right now) and I removed a couple more services / apps in the quest for better battery life.
hi guyz,
my x10i is a couple of weeks old.
i updated to 2.1 and rooted (1 click) with z4root.
i installed lots of apps on it but didnt do anything to the ROMS(i dont know what those are) or increase CPU speed
my problem is that my phone reboots by itself at least once a day and i dont know why. please advice
i love my x10
There might be a RAM issue, when your phone doesn't have any free RAM it will reboot automatically. Do you use multiple heavy programs at the same time or have a lot of often refreshable widgets on your screen?
It also can be an app which doesn't react very well on your phone. For instance I had desktop visualizer for a while and when I added to much widgets my phone rebooted from time to time.
Its hard to say from here what's causing this for you....

I think its either a RAM issue or an app issue too, but whats eating the RAM then?
I do have ALOT of apps installed but i need to still download a 'task manager" so i can see which apps a running at same time. i do have advanced task killer though.
The phone reboots when im continuously chatting on "whatsapp" could that be the problem? i dont want to uninstall it, what do u recommend i do?
You can give it a try to not using whatsapp for a while, see if it still happens.. It's a start in your search..

the only way would be to uninstall it which i dont want to do.
i have installed task manager and have "killed" apps running that im not using, will see if it restarts again, if yes i will have to uninstall 'whatsapp".
thanx for your help!!
how did u get to put a picture on ur signature?
it's soon time to refresh that, thanks for reminding ;-)
But it's possible in your user panel to add this.
The pic itself is just some photoshop work...
i think i managed to get mine right
Hi, I run the latest Miui and in the morning when i unlock the phone it's freezed and
many apps are opened. The first one is Opera mini, dialer, mesages, gps software
and many others witch i've opened during the day.
I kill apps about every hour but the problem persists.
if anybody encountered this problem before. THANKS!
Android open the apps to keep them in RAM memory, to start them faster (they dont have to be loaded into RAM every time you want to use them). It's different from the Windows working, where the smoothness of the system depends on the free Ram. You should not worry about the opened apps, it's normal, don't kill them because it will cause those freezes it's difficult to explain, read about it, it was mentioned about million times
only kill apps when system is freezing

I should try to wipe cache and dalvik cache. I solved so many problems this way, but the truth i have never similar as you.
Or it cannot help, reinstall the rom the last stable one (2.4.6 maybe or Wiui 2.3.30 I used the last one without any error)
Hi guys. I picked up a Sony Xperia SX (It comes with Android 4.0.4) a week ago and have been happy with it except for the battery life; it's not quite as good as my old Nexus One.
I've been looking at the battery usage stats and things seem ok except for "Android System." This collection of tasks takes up a LOT of battery and I have no idea why. Does anyone know?
I've turned off all my Google Account syncing and removed some of the pre-installed bloatware (for example, McAfee AntiVirus, but for some reason this still appears under Android System - does that mean it's not uninstalled? If so, is there some way to get into the system and actually remove this process?). The screenshots below are for a full days worth of very light usage: a few text messages, browsed one web page for a few minutes, and a very short phone call.
Are there any apps I can install that track battery/CPU/activity usage per process so I can zero in on what is keeping the device awake so much?
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!

Unless someone's made a build for this device, I have no idea how to do that. :\
I have the same phone and same problem.
Have you rooted it?
If so you can use a root uninstaller to get rid of the bloatware
I installed juice defender yesterday and there seems to be a slight improvement.

For a few months at least now my galaxy ace has been having numerous problems - The main one being that most times when I receive a text I'll get it 3 or 4 times. I put up with that for quite a while, thinking it might just go away - I was wrong! After trying a few things that didn't work I decided to flash onto a different rom... whilst that seemed to work I started having other issues with the phone, until at one point it wouldn't accept my passcode so I couldn't get onto the phone, and so I did a reset, which fixed that issue. But after that I soon reverted back to the stock rom to avoid it happening again, and I have the same issue again where I receive texts multiple times, but over the past couple of days I also find it nearly impossible to write a text message! I'll press on the typing area, and when I type nothing appears... I fixed this in the end by downloading a task manager and killing just about everything - at which point it types (so I've established that it's down to the RAM usage) now the weird aspect I've found with my RAM is that despite nothing running it never goes below 200MB in use out of the 290MB.... Surely that isn't right? My phone runs incredibly slowly no matter what is happening and it's driving me crazy!
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I regret buying this phone so much now, but can't afford a new one at the moment
If you don't care about your data like sms, and are able to reinstall all ypur apps (use titanium backup for example), flash a new rom or the same if you want. It should be really faster, and then take care of your phone, restart it every one or two days to clean cache, don't install too many apps, our phone is not made for intensive use.
Hit thanks !

Hi, I'm backing up at the moment - Do you think it'd cause the issue again if I also back up/restore my data as well as the apps?
I'm backing up now, so I'll let you know how it goes!
Thanks :fingers-crossed:
I think it would be better to not restore all datas, only those that you need (game data and stuff like that) but not all system data. For contact sync with google, for sms use sms backup, but don t restore everything !
Hit thanks !

That seems to have helped with the texting issue! Thanks, hopefully it won't come back again in a few days!
ram usage above 200 is i think normal...
i have 40-45 apps installed on the phone..and ram usage is always just around 200 mb..
but still my phone runs very smooth..
if u want lesser ram usage, i suggest u should use an app called autorun manager and block some apps which constantly runs in the background..!!

Yup it's normal
Mine was 230 all the time before using rafael kernel with domscript supercharger and crossbreeder entropy generator and now
It's 170
It's normal don't worry
Otherwise install the above things like I have done
