Hi There!
Can this phone run Froyo nicely? I am considering this phone and want to make sure it's a good phone and that it will upgrade nicely too ?
Thanks very much.

Sorry Froyo is not coming anytime soon from sony, we don't even have 2.1. From what people are saying we might see froyo in first quarter of 2011; if you can wait that long.

Not even with customized ROM's?

Not at the moment. Work is still being done on cracking the bootloader to load customised ROMs.

on villainrom 10.3 i updated ota just a quick update. then when i tried to reboot i got my lock screen and it said network locked, contact customer care.
so i went to recovery and tried to do a nandroid restore, but the same thing happened.

You are on Orange UK i resume? If so, you need to restore to the old radio, as Orange UK seem to be a nuisance with this
Grab the second most recent radio from http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=323 and flash it as normal
okay thank you.

Nice. Just be sure to make sure it's unrooted and running the old Orange ROM first
yeah, i'll play around with the stock rom for a few hours.
then ill root it and try the new cronos rom and the newest villain rom.
eventually i am going to make my own, simple, non sense rom.

Cool. Wouldn't want them to find out our little "rooting" secret
BTW, there will be a new version of SuperHero coming out soon (http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=43 for info on the old version), which is basically a non-Sense ROM, but with a couple of the best sense features added )
exactly

port the captivate froyo?

is it possible to port the captivate froyo leak to our phones? or do we still need a kernel for froyo from sammy?

haha yea i figured reading that commit, lol guessing the froyo is a no-go as of right now
Link file says Kernel
lets hope they can get a rom made using this soon
looks like there is a kernel made
Woohoo! C'mon Froyo!
Trying to build a kernel with the new defconfig now. Will report back momentarily.
I don't know how many times this has to be brought up guys, but we wont have froyo till we have kernel source for 2.6.32. The kernel source we have working right now is 2.6.29
Just calm down and be patient, or get to work and start developing. There is only so much devs can do, and if you want a feature or something, try doing it and learn. We don't need new forums posted everyday about how you want froyo, or tv out, or ios.

TBH, I'm equally sick reading these posts. Guess what, you can say that till you're blue in the face and people will still act in ways you don't want, it's called being being excited/impatient. You kind sir/madam could save yourself some bandwidth (and apparently annoyance/frustration) by just not licking on these links.
*edit* Also, it's great to see another New Mexican on the boards *edit*
Yeah...no licking links!!!

New to this myself. Fascinate is my first smartphone. So I gather we are likely waiting for the 2.2 release from Samsung for the Fascinate? Then someone will likely take the src and remove the bloatware etc?
Is the Cyanomodgen version also waiting on this?
Main thing I want is tether and all the bloatware removed from my phone. I have not rooted and am waiting for a good reason to do so. Don't want to root then have to undo it down road or something to get some other update and risk something going wrong. Thinking of waiting for the GPS fixes to get out etc first. Really want the Cyanomod ROM for this phone.

The root process is easy and shouldn't affect any updates. Removing certain apps could possibly affect any OTA updates - this has happened on some Motorola phones.
Rooting will allow Wireless Tether and the ability to remove bloatware. Make it easy on yourself and just MOVE apps you don't want from /system/app to your SD card so you can easily put them back when it's time to receive OTA updates.

Actually, we have no idea it it removes Bing or not.
Most likely it won't, but stranger things have happened, like Bing as the primary search for an Android phone.

Question regarding X10 ROMs

I'll be getting a Rogers X10 sometime this week and I'm just educating myself on the root method etc before I actually get the phone. Anyway, I've pretty much got that figured out and the one click exploid method looks simple compared to the root method I had to use for my 911 patched HTC Dream, and since my computer is already setup with ADB and stuff it'll be fine.
Anyway, my question is regarding ROMs for this phone. I've only ever flashed Cyanogen onto any device and those are pretty straight forward as far as what version of android it is. I don't see a whole lot going on with this phone as far as good custom firmwares go and it's kind of discouraging me from getting this device. The phone itself ships with 1.6 on it, and I've been using 2.2 on my Dream since the CM update came out... even though this phone totally dominates the dream, I don't fancy the idea of going back to Donut.
I'm having a really hard time finding which one of the "RXXA0XX" firmwares is the newest, and which versions they run.
Any help is mundo appreciate.

R2BA026 is the newest unless you use AT&T, and all run X10 FW as of now runs on 1.6, and as the bootloader hasn't been cracked yet 1.6 is all you can run.

[Q]How to update to version 2.3.6

I have an unlocked SGH-I777 (but not rooted) and i have been trying to update my phone since last week, from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6, but that seems to be impossible. I tried the most common way (settings-> software update) and it says The current software is up to date. I tried using Kies and it says that I have the most recent firmware.
Is there a way to download the update and install it manually, w/o rooting my phone?

P.S. I do not live in the US.
You really don't want to do that. it's a disaster build.
One time at football camp, I put my shoulder pads in my arse.

what really bugs me is that I cannot update. It is saying that I have the latest firmware/OS. I'm a bit concerned, because i don't know if i will be able to update my phone when they release android 4.
Someone will post the update before everyone can update. I froze the updater on my phone so it wouldn't update. I always download updates and manually flash them if I want them.

listen to me when I tell you this: "do not worry about an update that might be 6+ months away". Dont worry about ICS update when its not even remotely close to coming out. I dont care if Samsung said we'll get it in Q1. I'll believe it when I see it. Worry about the ICS update when you get it. Until then, enjoy life and your phone and stop worrying about your update.

Does anyone wish they stayed with 2.6?

My understanding is that once I go to 4.0 I can never go back. Right now my asia retail gsm on 2.6 is working perfectly and I'm loathe to mess up the best phone I've ever had if I'm stuck there forever with no way out!

To each his own but I wont go back to GB after ICS. Maybe you should play with someones phone and see how you like it prior to switching.

Personally I like it. It's super smooth and the few new features are pretty nice. Now I'm looking forward to "real" ROMs that are not broke and can only make it that much better.
It's "go time" for the devs and I can't wait!
My wife is having some issues at the moment with ICS. Im sure we will get them worked out but in the mean ttime she is mad just at the point that we cant go back.

No. I don't wish I had stayed with gingerbread.
While some uses may complain about there not being much difference, there may not be hugely noticeable differences, but under the covers, in less obvious ways, it's worth upgrading
