I'm new to the Adnroid family and just got my Aria yesterday. I had been gearing up to set up my email, root it and download HTC Sync but once I got my Aria I got so frustrated I was almost in tears!!
No matter what version of HTC Sync I download and install at the end I keep getting an "error 1722".
I've tried several ways to root my Aria, even watched tutorials that show step by step and STILL it won't root.
and lastly I'm trying to set up my email (it ends in mail.missouri.edu but i have to go through live.com to sign in and get into my account).
Can anyone help, PLEASE! I'm at wit's end!

Did you try the linux live cd method. It was so easy!
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
I have Windows 7 (64)
Using the Linux live CD is the best eaisiest method . Do it that way.Windows+android phones = headache.
Ally - you don't have to "quit" using Windows to enjoy the linux live cd method. Don't have the link handy but look for it under Android development section - you boot from the cd to a demo and you just "try" linux. Does not make and changes to your OS or hard drive. Just follow shad0wf0x's instructions to root and then pop the cell out and reboot when you are done!

There is the link... Download the CD image, burn it, then boot from the CD. Follow the instructions in the post. It was very easy...
Thanks you guys! I got it all situated!

Hey Xda-developers. Just quickly, I found this Forum from a few links on other websites (gizmodo, engadget) and some youtube videos of your awesome custom ROMs.
I for my HTC Hero in March, and I should be upgrading around christmas 2011. That's a while, and Android grows fast..much much faster than HTC update my device, so I'm thinking a custom ROM is what I really want.
I've done my research, but honestly I'm pretty much a noob here. I know I need to root the phone, but I've been unable to find any specific instructions for 3 UK, and as far as I can tell all the different carriers use different instructions (a different ROM to downgrade to?), so I don't want to use the wrong ones.
-
Phone Spec
Okay, this is a standard HTC Hero on a 24 month contract carried by 3 UK.
There has been no rooting, no major changes. I have done no more than officially supported. A complete from scratch root would be required.
Currently running 1.5.
UK, 3 Mobile, GSM.
No hardware replacements and no known issues with the phone.
-
I think that's about all, is somebody here able to point me to the right place for a 3 mobile root?
Thanks in Advance,
Callum.
I'm also on 3uk and i rooted my phone using the following guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-hero/54802-how-root-install-custom-rom-backup-more.html
Hope this helps.
Thankyou very much for your help! I'll be giving that guide a go later.
No probably m8, SenseHERO is a good custom ROM.
Any trouble just post up and ill try and help you out.
Hmm, if I could ask you to take a look at a post, that'd be really helpful. No worries if you don't have a clue though.

Sorry that link is so bad, but they won't let me post a proper one.
That thread was alternative 2 for the 3uk guide you gave me (goldcard section). I'm not sure whether you'll be able to help me, but if you could take a look that'd be massively helpful.
Cheers,
Callum.
I posted a reply to more or less the same problem earlier.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6701261&postcount=268
Let me know how you get on.
Thankyou very much for your reply, but I have already done all of this. I've successfully performed a goldcard on my SD and I'm really close to getting a working custom ROM, but it's dying somewhere there. I have already installed the x64 drivers though.
HTC Sync works perfectly, picking up the phone and synchronizing on demand.
Thanks,
Callum.
What guide are you using, i used this was one to create a goldcard and downgrade:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5855697&postcount=1
The only problem i had was syncing after installing the latest version. I fixed it by downloading a driver manager and updated the drivers for it.
I take it it lets you mount the SD card on your computer?
One thing that might be worth a try is to download the ROM again, it might be corrupt, a shot in the dark but worth a go.
That's the guide I ended up at, after following a link within the guide you provided above.
It does indeed allow me to mount the SD card, everything syncs perfectly. I'll give re-downloading the ROM a go, though. There was two available, so I'll try the other download.
Hmm, I've tried everything I can think of, and nothing is working on this Windows 7 machine. My brother's XP machine is broken, and my dad's away with the XP notebook.
Is there any way that anybody knows of to run XP as a virtual machine temporarily?
Here's a link for a virtual box:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/VirtualBox
I dont know how to run it though.
Someone had a similar problem on win7 yesterday and sorted it by getting a new gold card. Might be worth a try?
Aha, I re-downloaded goldcard, and switched the driver to My HTC once with it normally plugged in, then with bootloader open. And it downgraded!
I've got the Scenehero on the SD card now, I'm just unable to launch the custom recovery screen. It will start normally by hitting power, but while the home button is also held it just loops the first hero screen. Is there any way past that, because I need to perform a wipe and flash scenehero.
Thanks so much for your help so far, you've been amazing!
If your all set up properley you should be able to connect your phone via usb to the PC,
then open a command window and type>"adb shell devices"
your phone should show in the window something like HTLK12345
now type> "adb shell reboot recovery"
this should boot your phone into recovery mode.
Hope this helps.
Thankyou very much for your help, I solved the problem by re-installing my recovery. Not sure what went wrong but it worked after that. All looks good now!
good stuff m8, glad your sorted.
what rom are you running?
I'm currently using the latest version of Sensehero. Really pleased with it so far.
I'm on branch 3, waiting for branch 5, should be here soon hopefully.
If you have'nt already m8 check out the site:

Just wondering if this is working on our devices? its working on the desire now

and if so what steps do we need to take to get it working? thanks guys.
According to a discussion on a different forum, a few people have tried this on the Eris but it fails to flash. So still waiting on our phone, sadly they don't list the Eris on their compatibility list. They do list the HTC Hero but I'm not sure if they use the same USB Controller or not. Someone far more educated in this field can help with that.
Googling around a little pulled up a few discussions that appeared to indicate that the eris is a compatible usb controller. But I tried flashing it (one KayosFroyo v32) and as mentioned I get a error during flash... Hopefully someone can get it working.
What exactly is this?

According to the PSFreedom compatibility chart development for the Eris is "In Progress." It appears that a custom kernel will have to be built to support the exploit, presumably not too difficult.

well from what i read from the github tracker @ http://github.com/kakaroto/PSFreedom
he says: This linux kernel module should work on the N900 (RX51 machine).
It uses the musb driver to access the address of the usb and modify it.
If you want to port this, have a look at psfreedom_machine.c and implement the
missing functions for your device. Make it compile-time #ifdef and modify
the Makefile.
To compile, type 'make' inside scratchbox.
dont know how to do this just hoping this will help someone with porting it
UPDATE: just found a small how-to on how to port it if anyone understands this and/or how to do it all ps3+eris owners will forever be in your debt
Q: How can I port it to a new device.
A: Well, first, you need to figure out what controller your device uses, in the case of the N900, it’s ‘musb’..
Then go to the driver code for that controller (probably in drivers/usb/gadget) and look for ‘SET_ADDRESS’. In the case of musb, it was in drivers/usb/musb/musb_gadget_ep0.c. In there it was setting the address to the USB device, so just copy that code into the psfreedom_machine.c to allow setting the address, and add a similar function to be able to retreive the address.
Then add a function to return 0 or 1 depending on whether the controller supports HIGH, FULL or LOW speed mode (go to usb_gadget_register_driver for your controller, and in the first lines, it should validate the speed argument, it will tell you which ones are acceptable), set LOW speed mode to return TRUE only if FULL speed isn’t available .
Finally, add a function to return the endpoint names.. it will usually be something like ‘epXin’ and ‘epXout’ (where X is the endpoint number), or “epXin-bulk”, etc.. look at how the driver initializes its endpoints or grep for “->name” in the file to find where it sets it…
Edit: the controller the eris uses is MSM72K
any new developments on this? i see it's now listed on the PSfreedom compatibility list as in progress.
h t t p://psfreedom.com/wiki/index.php?title=Device_compatibility_list
As of this morning the website psfreedom.com is not available as well as the link for the chart is broken. I did many tests with my eris, using a CM6 Froyo rom to Other roms that were ported from other phones with different pse-enable zips. The best I was able to get to was the boot screen with the 3 skateboard androids. That setup was a CM6 2.2 rom with the zip files for the HTC Wildfire. Every other setup the zip failed to flash thru recovery. Thats the best I got so far.
EDIT
cant sleep so I tried to get onto psfreedom website and it is back up. It has been ported to the motorla droid. hopefully soon we will be so lucky
posted in another thread but here it is again.
I dont think we will be seeing this on the eris for sometime as the USB driver used is actually the msm_hsusb driver. This was verified last night when i was in #psfreedom where someone was trying to get psfreedom on an eris and kept running into a problem and it turned out to be because of the msm_husb driver was in use. so until that msm_husb driver is working with psfreedom we are probably SOL.
This is now working on the Eris i tested it for the dev waiting for him to officially release it should be this afternoon.
If what your saying is true I will name my children after you and the dev LOL

have fun guys all credit goes to the Dev rgov and the other devs working on psfreedom
I've carefully read the directions on the PSFreedom Wiki site for Droid Eris. My first question is this:
How can I achieve S-off in the bootloader? My Eris is rooted and I am currently running KaosFroyo v34. When I reboot to bootloader, it shows S-on and I cannot fastboot.
yeah i had the same exact issue that's why i made the note in the wiki. i essentially had to go through and redo the root following jcases post here.
hope it's not against the rules to link this......
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/121597-how-install-engineering-bootloader.html
Trying now... will keep you updated. Thank you.
Question: Since my phone is already rooted, do I just start at step 6 and flash PB00IMG.zip? To be honest, these directions are kinda confusing to me. I tried this method months ago and was never able to fastboot... maybe I am doing something wrong. coffindancer, I appreciate any and all help you are providing and hopefully you can assist me in getting this PSFreedom up and running.
i think you can start with PB00IMG.ZIP and it will go ahead and reflash the boot loader so it's S-OFF im not positive though. Im a freak and just followed the steps pretty much step by step maybe someone with more experience can explain it better.
So even though you were already rooted, did you still flash the engtools.zip? Or did you skip step 2?
skipped step 2 i believe.
also the dev is redoing the wiki so if you don't see the link for the files just be patient.
I have an LG Enlighten (Verizon Wireless), not an LG Optimus Slider (Virgin Mobile), running Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread). I am in desperate need of a root solution. I have searched the online forums to no avail. I have put the phone up for sale for fear that this device may never be rooted. I am calling on XDA Developers to produce a working root before I ultimately rid myself of this thing. To add, I tried running Android SDK (adb). No go. The instructions threw me even after trying them repeatedly on several different occasions. It could be that my laptop
has no internet access, but I'm not entirely sure.
I really enjoy this phone and have customized it to the point of
exhaustion. All I'm waiting for now is ROOT! Please help ASAP...
Have you attempted to root it? Have you tried Superoneclick, z4root, and/or Gingerbreak?
Re: Have you tried to root it?
Yes, I have. Unfortunately, with no success. Results are as follows:
Z4Root - The end result is my phone takes me back to the previous screen (internet, home, games, music, etc.). It begins the rooting process... acquiring shell root. Then it just sticks for approximately 30 seconds and then closes. I have repeated the process on several occasions in the event that something unusual happened the first time around. But the result is always the same.
Gingerbreak - This app just ultimately hangs, endlessly. Approximately two hours worth before I just quit in frustration. But all online forums claim it should take no more than 15 minutes tops. I should also note that I read Z4Root and Gingerbreak will not work on rooting Android 2.3.4 due to the patching of an exploit. However, I did not update my phone to this firmware. It came preinstalled. And I have not found a procedure for downgrading (sbf'ing) an LG Enlighten.
SuperOneClick - This is the one I'm currently trying still. I can't recall the website, but in addition to SOC, it also requires the use of adb from Android SDK. The problem I'm coming across is the laptop I'm using to perform this action is without internet access (which I've tried feverishly to restore to no avail). And I'm thinking this is what the issue may be, but I'm not entirely sure. The only access I have to the internet currently is on my phone. However, I make a weekly trip to the college library (no restrictions on installing, downloading, etc.). So maybe I can try something there.
For the past month, I've been doing extensive research online trying to find any and all information in regards to resolving this matter. A few sites have blamed Verizon for crippling their Android devices from performing certain functions. For instance, this particular device has no "boot into recovery mode" (which I confirmed with a Verizon tech support person). Had it, I easily could've updated with the .zip file from my SD card (which I've now deleted since it's rendered useless).
I did read today that the next version of SuperOneClick v2.3 (to come out at a later date) will include the option for the forced inclusion of adb debugging/android files which could be the solution to my problems. Possibly.
I apologize if this reply post seems a little long-winded. But I wanted to provide you with all the information I have available in order to better recieve instruction as how to proceed forward. I will continue to try the SuperOneClick in hopes that I will acquire root. But if not, I will rely on the expertise of those in the XDA community.
Thanks,

Hi, I too have an LG Enlighten from Verizon wireless. I was just wondering how your root process went? Did the phone work well afterwards? Also do you by any chance have a link to or at least remember the name of the video you watched which helped you to get your phone rooted.

seeing as there is no link, I would say no.
secondly, the video posted and my own research indicates that root was possible only if it was v. 2.3.3. There isn't anything available for 2.3.4.
I have rooted my LG Enlighten which was on Gingerbread 2.3.4. I made a tutorial over at phandroids forums since xda does not let me post links to outside sources. Just google Lg Enlighten root and you will find it in the first or second link. Enjoy.
PS: If you do not believe me I made a video of my phone rooted on youtube. My user name there is the same as xda and I posted pictures at the end of my tutorial. Gingerbread 2.3.4 is fully exploitable on the LG Enlighten.

I think it would a great idea to include which firmware you used this on. I kbow for a fact that it fails on v4 and v5.
And its not that I don't believe you (I do btw) its just the lack of specifics are going to excite someone and they'll leave you a nasty message cause they thought it would work. So, just a heads up:

Extremely frustrated and hoping you will share this link. I to have tried everything to root my Enlighten to no avail and would appreciate your help more than I can explain! Please! Thank you and congats!
I had my phone rooted, then verizon put out an update, and now I can't root it. I think we're screwed until sombody figures out a new method.
Model: LGVS700
Firmware: VS700ZV5
im not sure if this will help but here, i found this claiming to be able to root the phone.
First, you need the file hboot_2.xx_soff-V8.9.zip, download it.
Unzip it into c:evoroot on your pc.
Second, put your LG Enlighten into development mode by
going to Settings->Applications->Development and turn USB
debugging on.
Third, connect your LG Enlighten to your computer and set
your USB to Just charge.
Fourth, if you get errors with drivers, install their HTC drivers.
(You can also install HTC Sync, but it is bulky!)
Fifth, open up a command prompt by typing cmd.
Sixth, type the following commands: (Or copy and paste,
easier!)
Code:
cd evoroot
adb push root/unrevoked-forever.zip /sdcard/
adb push root/mtd-eng.img /sdcard/
adb push pc36img/PC36IMG-ENG.zip /sdcard/PC36IMG.zip
adb push pc36img/PC36IMG-MR.zip /sdcard/PC36IMG-MR.zip
adb push root/flash_image /data/local/
adb -d install -r root/z4root.apk
Seventh, go to your phone and launch Z4Root app. Then select
temp root and wait until its done.
Eighth,go back to command prompt and type:
Code:
adb shell
su
If you get a pound(#) sign, that means you have temp root,
which just gives you temporary root so we can now install
permanent root.
ninth, go back to command prompt and type the following:
Code:
chmod 0755 /data/local/flash_image
./data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img
sync
And reboot to bootloader mode by typing:
Code:
reboot bootloader
When bootloader mode starts up, it will look for PC36IMG.zip
and after about 3 minutes ask you if you want to install
PC36IMG.zip.
Say Yes by hitting the volume up button, it should now install
the new zip file, should take about 10 minutes. Go grabs some
coffee and come back.
Eleventh, reboot when its done by hitting the volume up
button.
It will reboot into the OS and we dont want that so takes the
battery out and puts it back in it. Then go back to the
bootloader by hitting the power button while holding down
the volume down button.
Choose Bootloader and wait until you get the triangle sign and
type:
Code:
adb push recovery /
adb shell busybox Cinstall /sbin
adb shell nohup /sbin/recovery
&
Go back to your LG Enlighten and you should see green
menus.
Choose install zip from sd card and choose unrevoked-
forever.zip
After that installs, Choose MS-USB
Go to your computer and delete PC36IMG.zip, then rename
PC36IMG-MR.zip to PC36IMG.zip.
Then power off your LG Enlighten, power back on by pressing
Power Button while holding down the Volume Down button,
this should get you back into bootloader mode.
Simply wait and when it asks to install the update, hit the
Volume Up button.
then reboot your LG Enlighten, your device should now be
rooted with Recovery menu then you can flash new ROMs for
LG Enlighten.

I have lg enlighten running 2.3.4 and it is rooted with super user and rom toolbox working. I used POOT.APK which can be found on google. It worked well and everything went smooth. It is a simple and easy to use application. (You can use either SU or SSU)

Phone: HTC MyTouch 4G Slide
Android version 2.3.4, HTC sense version 3.0
Issue: No HTC Sync on device / Attempting to root.
Either looking for help on getting HTC Sync to complete this guide - or an alternative method to root the phone. Either or. Thanks in advance.
I have an HTC, and apparently to get bootloader / fastboot unlocked, i need to hvae HTC Sync - but when i go to Connect to PC options, HTC Sync is not an option. Doesn't appear to be on my phone.
I have been following this guide, to ultimately root my phone. That's my main goal.
Increase batt. life, performance, and take advantage of hacked mod/apps.
Please help. I am basically stuck at Step 4 of this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1801106
And since step 4 of that guide is another guide, i'm stuck at Step #8 , because it is "waiting for device" permanently. http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/unl...uctions/page-3
I have googled, and well, my computer's HTC Sync program, should be able to read my device, and it does not(Win7, i ran as admin, etc.) I have rebooted phone under fastboot, and I believe followed all necessary steps according to those guides, unless i missed something, but i read it completely before beginning to make sure i understood everything, before actually beginning.
If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it.
This phone is still the best qwerty kb phones on the market, so I do not want to upgrade to a new phone, but increase performance/batt life by rooting.

Still looking for help
Hey all,
I've been trying now for hours trying to root my HTC One UK variant.. I've followed several YT videos but I always seem to get stuck at the ADB stage.. I have many games / apps / settings that I would not like to lose so I would like, if possible to be able to perform the whole process.
The problem arises when I enter CMD, I get one of 3 messages.. ADB Driver out of date (or similar) Device Offline, or Device Not Found.. I've tried a few ways to fix this including ADB Fixer, Uninstalling Sync Manager, downloading the toolkit (v3.1 and 3.1.2), using another USB port, updating drivers, etc and I still have no success. I might add that i'm using 4.3 version of android.
I have to admit, i'm in no way a "pro developer" but I fully understand the risks of carrying out such a process
Any help would be gratefully received..
Thanks in advance..
