Would it be possible to have Sense as a seperate download? I'm using darkstone HD2Froyo V2.1 and would like to give Sense a go on it without having to download a(nother) complete Android version.
From what I understand, Sense in Windows Mobile is a seperate GUI. Is this also the case with Android?
no .....you cant add sense....pssssst josh
Sense is integrated into the frameworks, cant simply be added into another build.
this is not a development thread.

Hi,
About 2 weeks ago I downloaded the Android ROM for my HTC HD2, it works great, I really like Android more then Windows Mobile. Although everything works and seems fast enough, i have the feeling my phone can do more. If i look at videos of a HTC Desire HD it runs much faster, though the hardware is almost identical.
As I understood my phone is still running Windows Mobile but it is running in a state that emulates the hardware for a Android phone, so i can run Android. Now for my question, is there a way to run Android directly on my phone, without using Windows Mobile in the background?

this question is in the wrong section
ATM its not possible for none DEVS to run Andriod directly from you phone NAND memory.
DEVS are working on it but there are still some issues to solve before it will be launched you can follow the progression at the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817261
When you switch over to Andriod as a native OS you wont be able to run WM anymore, you can multi boot Android OS and Unbuntu of your SD, so if you want to use WM also then running Andriod of your SDcard is the only option

Thanks for replying, what do you mean with ATM? and DEVS?
For what I understand from you post, they are working on a native android rom for the HD2, but it's not finished jet... And when I would install it i can't boot windows mobile anymore... Is that correct?
Will there be a posibility to revert my phone back to windows mobile when i would like to sell my phone...
-First winmo is shutdown when booting android.
-At the moment booting right from the hd2 memory is only possible with nand (from internal memory) . Wich is currently not for public release because it contains bugs.
-The reason why it is not at same speed as desire hd is that the kernel for the hd2 is not perfect and maybe nand can do a little speed increase. But it is getting better current kernels are much faster than a month ago.
ATM= At the moment
DEVS= Developers

Witch section should it be in? Q&A or something? Can I change that right now?
What I understand is that it actually doesn't make a difference when I would boot android without windows mobile, only a minor speed increase because of faster memory? The real speed increase would come from a better kernel, witch the developers here are working on... Is that right?
Do you happen to know a ROM with this newer kernel? (so i can see if i already have it)

You can't change that right know but that is not a real problem. And what you are saying is right. We have to wait for a better kernel.
In terms of rom with kernel newer roms have most of the time newer kernels.
You can select [Everyday Builds][latest linux_on_wince_htc][PPP] CM6.1+ from michyprima this ones has no sense but are really speedy compared to sense builds. They use latest kernel. Anyway if you pickup a build from the last 7 days you can put any kernel that you want of it my favorite kernel at the moment is this. And contains a patch wich resolves screen freeezes wich happen sometimes. The most recent kernels are mdeejay S4 & hastrin r8.2. Or the CM6.1 build I said above because it have the latest kernel. The hastarin where I link you to contains the touchscreen freeze fix. Wich is not included in all hastarin 8.2 kernels.

Thnx for the reply, all is much more clear now...
I only have 1 more question, can update only the kernel of a ROM, so i don't have to install a hole new ROM and keep my preferences?
Yes that is also possible.
Is there something like a guide for it? url?
Installation:
1. Copy zImage to the "Android" folder on SD card
2. Copy "root" folder to "Android" folder on your SD card (overwrite files or combine when needed never delete the current one and replace it with the new one always overwrite files if folder structure already exists)
Sometimes the folder root is not included by the kernel then create
root/system/lib/modules
inside put :
tun.ko
bcm4329.ko
cifs.ko
and create:
root/system/lib/hw
lights.htcleo.so
If the file is not inside the package then don't create a folder for it. You should always have this file bcm4329.ko The rest is different for different kernels.
Edit:
You can download a kernel in different threads.
For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831585
For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787588
VBN files should also have latest kernel without tweaks but cant find it now.

Android - A Linux based operating system created and mostly designed by Google. The major revisions are 1.0, 1.1, 1.5 (Cupcake), 1.6 (Donut), 2.0/2.0.1/2.1 (Eclair), 2.2 (Froyo) 2.3 (Gingerbread), and 3.0 (Honeycomb - tablet only). The majority of Android major revisions are named after desserts.
APK - Android PacKage. These are, basically, Android applications and all of their data. They are run via the Dalvik Virtual Machine on your device.
Bootloader - The part of a computer that loads the operating system. If this is damaged/deleted you are screwed.
Flashing - The act of installing a ROM onto an embedded device or emulator.
Overclocking - Increasing the "clock" of a processor to increase its speed at the expense of battery life and possibly your phone. Not all processors overclock the same, even if the hardware is identical. One phone with a Hummingbird SoC will not be able to overclock to 1.2ghz, yet another would be able to overclock to 2.0ghz (very unlikely).
S-ON/S-OFF - S-ON is a "security" measure put in place by HTC on their newer phones that read locks /system and /recovery. Switching S-ON to S-OFF disables this protection and allows you to replace the stock recovery, and modify /system while the phone is in Android.
Radio/Modem - The parts of a firmware that allow communication between the operating system, the telecommunication hardware, and a mobile network. Some radios give good battery life, some good signal, some neither.

Hi all!
I know J and lately rls190687 tried and failed to port Sense to our X10. Afaik the problem was that HTC didn't release their SDK right? Well, it looks like this is about to happen now:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/attention-sense-developers-sense-sdk-coming-soon/
Hope this is useful for our devs here. Sense 3.0 on our then GB-updated devices would be a nice alternative to the existing ROMs right?
Heah these are good news
I think it must be possible too. When official GB is released for our phones it should be easy because of the new kernel and new resources!
sent from my x10i with wolfbreaks CM 6.1.3 v006 undervolted, bb67
..htc is releasing sdk, but not sense sources.
Sent from my Premium Xx
Sense SDK (Software Development Kit) means that devs can make apps that make use of the Sense framework, not port Sense to another ROM. For that, we need the source code.
Moved to proper forum.
The Sense SDK is for apps for Sense as earlier stated in this thread.
Bummer. Thx for clarification though. Will adjust thread name tomorrow when i come home.
Sent from my rooted X10i using awesome custom roms
Is there a custom ROM with HTC sense removed?... I know there are tricks to remove HTC customizations but I was wondering if there is an already precoocked ROM...
thanks!
Look in the energy rom thread, there is a titanium version. (Titanium is what winmo is when there is no sense)
as far as i remember aside from not havinge the htc sense theme it has anything else HTC related... i mean dialer, notifications etc...
You can download my oskitchen, and remove sense very easily by unchecking a folder then remove any packages you dont want and simply build the rom! Links below
I was looking for such a ROM too.

would be nice , but why does NRG titanium ROM has many bugs reports if it's so easy to do?
I asked Sir Sternas (proven chef of astounding Artemis ROM series) to release a pure winmo ROM and that was the answer

To remove HTC Sense and Libraries is not simple.
About 65% of phone drivers are custom drivers from HTC.
WM 6.5.x Dev Kit, has only the "basic" programming files , to build custom drivers for every phone.

hi
i tried win 7(nand), and android 2.3.5 and few more(sd) on my hd2.Had some battery power issue with win 7 and android ROM's. i liked android,But i always miss that HTC Sence (weather Widget). so i went back into win 6.5.
i saw some good looking ROM on page..... HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development..... many of them even have htc sense weather widget... the one I like most..
now my question is, why I should use these ROM. they are pretty much like original ROM, and what is the diff. between them and original ROM.
why should i go 4 these Rom,instead of original ROM.?? is there a very big diff. and what??. Many question in my mind, but don't have any answer, if some of you can explain it to people like me, its very help full for me and other people..
thanx in advance..........
The Problem is that there is a lot of software on the stock ROMs we do not need. On custom Roms this software is removed. In the stock Roms there are also some cool features disabled (Camera modes, 567mb Ram...) and the devs of the custom roms are using a better compression and other tools to make the rom faster.
Many reasons to use them such as:
Better support for bugs & personal preferences
Removing of network software & limitations
Newer firmware/software such as WM6.5.3 & camera app ect are only available via custom ROM.
NRG rom transferred my device & further setup by myself of WM6.5.3 based ROM has made a very practical & elegant platform far better than Android unless gaming is a priority.
