This has been happening for as long as I can remember on various ROMs and versions.
Once I add my Hotmail account, when I go to settings -> incoming and select to delete messages from the server when I delete from the phone, the app FCs.
Anyone else notice this/know what's going on?
I don't use Hotmail but every now and again someone sends to the account and it ends up getting ignored. Would be nice to be notified but not a big deal at all!
Not the answer to your problem, but this is what I do.
I just go to www.hotmail.com in the browser. Keep yourself logged in, and when you're logged in, add that page to your bookmarks. That way you can access it fast by opening your browser and the mobile hotmail page looks better than the email app I think.
Ofcourse, you won't get notified when you get new mail.
Thanks for the suggestion - but not really what I'm after.
I would literally get 1 message every 4 or 5 months and it's usually one I'd like to have known about 3 months before remembering to check hotmail.
More than anything it'd be good to know if this happens for everyone else or just me
Have you set up Hotmail as POP3?

I configured my phone with Gmail out of the box, it functioned perfect for a few weeks, and now for some reason it will check and download my email, but will error when trying to send any emails.
Any idea why this could be?
Yah, that's happened to me too, I just deleted that gmail account, made another one that checks the same account, and it worked again...kinda annoying, but it's a 2 min process.

I have seen so many repoorts of this over at PPCG and from firends of mine with the TP.
Maybe a GMAIL issue? Not sure but your not alone.
i've tried remaking the account on the phone to no avail. good to know at least I'm not alone!
I started seeing this problem with IMAP servers on WM 6.1, have compiled some info on it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374663
I haven't had to recreate any mail accounts after applying the MS WM 6.1 patch linked in that thread. A soft reset is all that's been needed since.
I've got my fingers crossed for WM 6.5 to be a real fix. I'd like to give that 5.2.21014 a try too if it ever comes around again...
go to mail2web.com create a free account (Exchange Support)
go to Gmail settings forward ur gmail incoming mail to [email protected]
now setup push e-mail on ur phone through active sync
ull get the e-mail within 5 seconds of it being received, and u'll save some battery juice cuz ur phone is not checking for new e-mails every now and then.
IMHO it works flawlessly, i have my hotmail and gmail going through push, as u can forward as many e-mail accounts as u want
MOE
As it turns out a second soft reset and delete>remake the account on the phone got my email working again.
For some reason, all people I email ends up in my contacts. Even if I emailed them just once and not even from the phone. This never happened on my Nexus One... Any ideas? Thanks.
Go to contacts, menu, display options, select only show contacts with phone numbers.

Ok but what if I have some contacts that are only email addresses. It seems the phone is getting contacts from within gmail's "all contacts" instead of "my contacts"
The only thing you can do is stop synching your gmail contacts.
This has happened on every android phone I've owned since the G1. Google remembers anyone you send an email to and it becomes part of your address book, even if it's not on your list of contacts. To show this, open up gmail in on a PC and type the first couple chars of that email address and it will pop right up.
I know what you're talking about but it didn't happen when I was running cyanogen or kangorama on my nexus one. Maybe it has something to do with Samsungs contact app instead of stock, I don't know...
nope same thing happened to me, i just deleted and move on though...
this is so annoying. Every android phone I have had syncs with 'My Contacts' (G1 and Nexus)...but the Vibrant syncs with 'All Contacts'...I haven't found a fix yet, or a good work around.

In the gmail web portal setting there is an option to turn that off. I remember seeing it just three other day.

I remember the days of the G1, when I had a separate "phone" list setup in google contacts, and I could display ONLY those contacts. Some numbers I do want to keep in google contacts, but only some I want to pop up when making a call.
Why did they change the contacts stuff so much? Does anyone else find this annoying?
any solution to this?
Beside this, can it show the actual group I put in the Google contact rather in the same group "Google"
Gmail is acting kind of funky on this phone...
Every now and then Ill take a look at the Gmail account on my phone and Ill see:
Inbox (1)
But all my emails have been marked read on the phone. So Ill log in on a desktop, and see that one of my e-mails is unread, even though I just marked it read on my phone.
Sometimes Ill get a zero unread count in my app, login on a desktop and see that Ive got 3 or more that were never marked read.
Gmail used to be the best email experience out there on a mobile device, in my opinion. But its now gotten to the point where this bug plagues just about every email I receive.
Am I the only one? Is there even any action I take to prevent this?
Sounds like a syncing issue. Everything works fine for me. Are you on a custom ROM?
Stock rooted.
I seem to remember having the same issue on my G1 and the myTouch Slide, though not to this gravity. I guess it must have something to do with my account itself, but I would really hope not. Starting over with a new Gmail isnt the most elegant solution...
I'm getting this today too. Frustrating.
my wife's Vibrant can't even sync with gmail since yesterday
Hi all. Having been with yahoo for many many (often tiring) years, sadly this isn't a new thing, it's something that comes and goes seemingly based on the whims of yahoo deciding to change their settings, potentially to try to herd users onto their (awful) mail app. Anyway, problem:
All of a sudden, my account (yahoo plus, imap) and my mothers (yahoo basic, pop) have stopped receiving emails on our 2 android phones (samsung S3 with latest ICS, & HTC wildfire with whatever was before ICS, respectively). I've read a number of forums with various suggestions, including:
- clear the app cache
- change to a different server: most suggest imap.mail.yahoo.com but others suggest imap.n.mail.yahoo.com, imap.android.mail.yahoo.com, one suggests using IMAP4 (don't know how to select this)
- delete account & reinstall
None of these work. Peversely, I AM getting emails through on imap.mail.yahoo.com, but very intermittently. I'll notice that, e.g. overnight, I'll have gotten most of yesterday's, but if i click for a manual refresh it'll fail. Likewise if I set myself up for imap.mail.yahoo.com, it'll check the settings & be ok, but then give a connection error.
My mum's phone is a slightly different problem: she can log in fine through the internet, but her username/password combo fails for pop access through the stock email app. She's a .co.uk address, & i'm wondering if this is the reason for the problem. I suspect it's just that yahoo is having a problem.
Any thoughts appreciated for both of these - potentially connected - problems.
Cheers
Dez

Address any prompts or issues you see when signing in on a desktop before trying to sign in on a third-party email app, then send a test message.
Sign in to Yahoo Mail from a web browser.
Compose a new email and add your own address in the "To" field.
Send the email.
Wait up to five minutes to see if it arrives.
Confirm app is configured with the correct POP settings or IMAP settings for Yahoo Mail. Sometimes even if the info seems correct, the data the app saved could be corrupt or contain hidden invalid characters. Delete your Yahoo account from the app and re-add it to be sure. If you need specific instructions for your app, contact its manufacturer.

I recently solved a real pain of an email issue I was having, and wanted to pass along the experience. I had tried searching these forums for several days, but didn't quite find my problem, and didn't find the solution all in one place. With that in mind, I'm hoping this information helps someone, even if a bit of it may be covered in other threads (sorry if so).
I had upgraded recently to JB 4.1.1, and was having a lot of problems getting my corporate/exchange email account to work. The calendar and contacts would work sometimes, and the email never got past the "waiting for sync" screen. Anytime the calendar and contacts would work, they would break after a reboot of the phone.
I also found that sometimes exchange account would stick around after it stopped working, and other times it would disappear (from the Android settings > accounts list) completely. I had set the accounts up both through the stock email app, and through a third - party email app (Enhanced Email, a good app).
I tried deleting and recreating the accounts, with varying settings (port numbers, accepting all security certificates, etc.). Later on, I went to my company's online web access for Exchange, and deleted all the mobile connections so that it would create a new connection for my current phone and ROM. I recreated the account (for what seemed like the 50th time) after that. Still no good.
The thing that made the difference: I finally read a tip somewhere to force stop the (stock) email client, and clear its cache and data. After that, the email app needed to be set up again, but email synched for the first time since I installed this ROM, and my calendar and contacts work reliably. It's been several days and reboots, and no further problems have come up.
I hope this helps someone, and again, apologies if the information is duplicative. I couldn't find it all in one place, and was really beating my head against the wall trying to find a fix.

Hi there, I think im glad i found this thread although not sure it will help with my corporate mail problem. My problem exists only with contacts not syncing from my corporate exchange account. My mail and calendar is ok just no contacts sync.
You mention to force stop the stock email client, can you advise the steps and exact name of the process? Do you mean in manage apps - All - Email ? I cant seem to stop that process its all greyed out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, due to my role i really need my exchange contacts to sync.
Cheers,
Hi guys,
My experience is different.
If you have problems to sync your email you need to clear all previous mobile connections from outlook (via outlook web access) and set up your account from zero on the device.
Quick question why do you use a third party email client? Do you have Samsung device? Got the same problem and had to move to a asop (CM10)
Samsung email client and exchange doesn't work well since the original Galaxy.

solution for me
For me what solved was a solution I found in another post here in the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774978&page=2
In summary:
"Settings --> Data Usage --> Menu --> and check Auto Sync Data
Try setting up Exchange account again and you'll see the prompt to activate a Device Administrator this time. "
