[Q] Is it possible my vibrant just doesnt have manual recovery??? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im about to give up. I can get recovery thru adb, quick boot app, rom manager, etc. I still have yet to boot recovery manually. I want to be ready for cm6, which means I need a manual recovery method in case my vibrant freezes up or bootloops so I can restore backup. I've tried every vol-up vol-down combo I could find. Still, after 2 weeks, no manual recovery. I don't want to go back to the unrooted life, but without a manual recovery method, I dont want to chance freezing up. Is there any other method of getting to recovery if the phone freezes up after flashing a rom?

I don't see how that's even possible... Just to make sure you are:
1. Turning off the phone
2. Holding the two volume buttons down
3. Then pressing the power button along with the volume buttons until the "vibrant" logo comes up, goes away and comes back and then letting go of all buttons...
It's pretty easy to do it... But if you did that and you are still getting nothing I suggest you do a factory reset and try again...
If not, try and take it in to a T-Mobile store... This is a function all stock phones should have, and if you can't go into it, that's a defect.

I hold my phone horizontal when powered off.
Both thumbs on the volume rocker.
Press and hold power and volume buttons.
When the Vibrant logo comes up, release power, keep holding the volume rocker.
I've never had an issue. It does seem like a lot of new posts popping up with this issue though. I use Quick Boot now that I am rooted. I also use Clockwork Recovery too.

There's definately a problem with some phones. I had one that wouldn't boot to recovery or download using the buttons. I took it in and swapped it out, and when I tried the new phone in the store I got it first try. It's just not that tricky to do.

Well, after another whole day of research and attempts, I give up. Sending the phone back and tmobile is shipping me another. Only problem is I cant try it out for recovery first. Hope this one works out.

No 3 button combos?

Do you have to have installed one of the kernels, like CWM, from the dev section to get into recovery? With the captivate you could get to the stock recovery with most phones out of the box. Is that not the case with this phone? I am stock (for now) but was just wondering because I tried to get to the recovery screen and can't seem to do it...
Edit: nevermind. Please delete.
Mine goes into recovery without a problem and still completely stock. Vol up/down and power button. When the SGSII screens comes on, release the power button.

[Q] Tell me if there is any hope for this VM lg optimus v, that I bricked?

Long story short, I got all the way to the point of flashing the ROM, after the black screen issue with recovery. So I did all the necessary wipes, the onto the formatting. When I tried to flash ROM, I realized I inserted a sdcard without the ROM I wanted. (THIS IS WHERE I BRAIN FARTED AT) I pulled the battrey instead of just replacing the sdcard that had the ROM. Now when I power on all I get is the lg logo. When I try to go to recovery the lg logo flashes, then just black lit screen and keys lit up. It won't go into emergency mode either, that's my main concern.
Tell me if I'm doing emergecy mode right also, I'm holding down: back arrow key, volume down, and power. Is there an amount of time I need to hold these keys

Does it stay on this black screen with the keys lit up? If so have you pressed the camera button and if so does it reset to the lg logo then back to the black screen? If so if I am correct there may be an issue with display drivers or something. I had the issue as well and it was a pain to get it going correctly again. But anyways what I had to do was to get a different recovery for the phone then have the images of the recovery screen to know what key combinations to press. Once I had that I just flashed the new recovery onto the phone and it restarted and eventually got a new recovery with the screen actually showing up for the recovery. Anyways after I did that I could go from there and I use the latest IHO as it has the necessary display drivers for the phone. I am not sure about other roms as I have only used IHO. Anyways I found how to do this here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...black-screen-custom-recovery-custom-roms.html be sure to register to be able to get access to the forum to see the necessary details. I kind of had to improvise though as I couldn't seem to get access to the phones command prompt always told me waiting for device. Well I hope this helps if you need further details let me know and I will try to help you out.

[Q]HELP!!! I lost clock work mod

HELP!!! I installed shostock rom that worked well for sometime….however yesterday when I went running, I was listening to audio and at the same time I was using an app called Mapmyrun, The phone then suddenly just died. No matter what I pressed it wouldn’t come on. Eventually it did come back on after I pressed the volume up button along with the power button and the home button together and at the same time putting the battery back in. Since then I can’t make a call without using the speaker and while trying to play audio, the audio sticks. I decided I needed to reinstall rom or even try a new one but discovered the phone will not boot into clock work mod. When I try the phone just goes dead again and I then have to do the whole volume up button along with the power button and the home button together and at the same time putting the battery back in again. How do I get CWM again so I can wipe?
So holding down the power button doesn't pull up the boot to Recovery option?
What version of Shostock are you running?
XWLP7-SHOstock2-v2.2.2
Now I've actually got it to go to cmw by holding volume up and down together while pressing the home button and replacing the battery simultaneously. When Itry to reboot however it just goes dead and I have to do the whole process again. How do I get it to reboot?

What phone do you have?
EDIT: XWLP7? I9100?
You're flashing a I777 rom on a I9100?
Alright, you get closer.
At first you said you lost CwMR, then you described how to get into CwMR a totally wrong way, then you got in CwMR eventually.
I suggest you spend time and read more on those threads created by creepy. He shows you everything from how to get into the Download mode, how to get into the 3e, .......
Also, fundamental thing, do list your device info if you want more useful help.
Back to your stage, you said you got into CwMR successfully, then reboot???
Have you done anything when you got there? reflashing? wiping? ...... or just got there and reboot and did nothing else?

[Q] Re-installing CWM Recovery (or getting to it)

Guys,
I'm rooted, with MDK base, and THOUGHT I had a working version of CWM (maybe 6.0.2.3?)
I was in the process of getting ready to try out a new ROM; going through the usual motions, formatting system, data, cache, and for good measure, I finished with a Wipe Data/Factory Reset (which I believe just does the same things again).
The phone suddenly rebooted and froze at the samsung custom screen. When I try to get back to recovery, I can't (hold down up-vol and power; blue message appears and disappears quickly in upper left, and back to Samsung custom lock screen.
I'm stuck. In the past, I always got into recovery by rebooting with ROM Manager, so I haven't really had to use the power-on/ vol up method (thus it may never have worked).
I can get into download mode. So I'm thinking - assuming - that the first thing I should try is to Odin CWM. But I'm admittedly confused, because all of the posts that relate to installing CWM seem to be in the context of the rooting process, and assume you have the ability to place certain files in rooted directories (like loki), which I obviously can't b/c I can't boot.
1) Is re-flashing CWM the right approach ? If so, is there a .TAR file somewhere with just CWM? I can't find an Odin-flashable .tar. EDIT: I found one, but it's designated for i9505. Same thing?
2) If that's not the right approach (or I'm just an idiot and don't know how to get into a working recovery), please advise
Thanks!
Turn the phone off.
Hold volume up and press the power button until it vibrates.
When it vibrates let go of the power and stay holding volume up until you see the recovery splash.
I've found that sometimes continuing to hold the power button will cancel the call for recovery boot. Not sure why.
You can always Odin if that doesn't work.
And I don't know of an Odin package for vzw recovery.

O - M - G !? Unbelievable. Thanks a BILLION! You just saved me a ton of time.
EDIT: Cr*p. Not out of the woods yet. Now, when choosing 'Install from SD Card' I'm getting 'E: Can't mount /sdcard/'
I'll post this issue in a separate Q.

[Q] Bricked after installing Safestrap, please help!

Alright, so I literally just received a replacement phone after having my Galaxy s4 broken for about 3 months. So naturally the first thing I do it is try to root it so I can get CM on it, but the factory the updated my phone to the VRUEMJ7 build, which apparently you can't actually hard root... so whatever, I do the saferoot, and use Hashcode's Safestrap recovery. But, for some reason I always feel the need to test **** that I don't understand, so in his recovery I switched the active ROM to the stock rom, then tried to reset to factory default, deleting all the data and whatnot, thinking I would be able to get more space for my CM partition. Welp, now my phone is stuck at the Samsung/Custom lock spash screen, and I don't think I can boot into Odin (it's still volume rocker up + power button, right?)
So, is my phone now hard bricked, or it there anything I can do about it? I'm downloading the image from this thread as I type this, but I'm not sure I can use it considering when I try to boot into Odin the blue text flashes in the upper right corner like normal, but then the screen goes black while I continue holding the buttons, and doesn't do anything until I release them, which causes it to just go back to the bricked splash screen.

You reset your stock rom My advice is to read up on what you can and can't flash, and if you have even the slightest doubt, ask someone on the forums for, help. That saved me loads of time and stress.
ODIN/Download Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Key(s): Volume Down
While holding this key down simultaneously press the Power button until you see a disclaimer on the screen
Then let go of both buttons and press Volume Up to accept the disclaimer
Once the green robot is visible on the screen this indicates that handset is in now ODIN/Download mode
Recovery Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Key(s): Volume Up
While holding this key down simultaneously press the Power button
As soon as the phone vibrates, let go of the Power button but keep holding Volume Up
When you see the "Samsung Galaxy S4" logo (not just the word "Samsung"), right after that, the next screen you should see is your recovery
Don't let go of Volume Up until you see your recovery

I know, I'm an idiot. :/
When I try to boot into Odin the android doesn't pop up though, the screen goes black while I have the buttons held, and just goes back to the boot screen after I let them go.

Sorry, not to sound ungrateful for the help, but I feel like you're not reading what I'm saying :/. I would love to be able to do that, but as of right now I'm unable to get into Odin. Unless you can get into Odin using ADB or something of the sort that won't help me.

ah my fault
You can always enter download/Odin mode. Hold the HOME button and the volume down button when powering on until the screen turns on.

Take the battery out and wait ten mins then put it back then try to boot in download mode. If you didnt flash over sbl 1-3 and aboot you should still be able to get into download mode. If not boot into recovery mode then clear cache and then try to boot to download mode. And what blue text in the upper right corner are you talking about? Download mode doesnt display that and recovery displays blue text in the upper left.

I posted in the Safestrap thread asking for help too, and someone pointed out that you need to hold the buttons for Odin and release them when the phone vibrates, and I was keeping them help. Thanks so much for the help guys, I should be able to flash the recovery image and save my phone now.
