Assign program to camera button (Q) - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use Vignette since a while and am very happy with this program.
Now i want to assign Vignette to my camera button so it will open when I press it.
I searched everywhere on my phone but couldn't find it. It sounds to me it should be extremely easy but for some reason I can't figure it out.
Does anyone know how to assign an app to your camera button??
Cheers,
Arnold

Open Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, (wait for it to load), Camera.
Click "Clear Defaults". The next time you press the camera button you'll be prompted as to what application you want to use with it.
The same feature works for other apps, for example Messaging, you can choose another app to handle SMS.

Thank you very much for replying, but I can't clear defaults as there aren't any selected according to the system. Strange thing is however, after I been in this camera settings, my camera button does nothing at all anymore when I push it...
I have the feeling I move further away from what I wanted than coming closer...

You have to press it hard for 2 seconds.. try it... this button is kind of hard to press...

i pressed it so hard for about ten seconds, it almost came out on the other side but the button has now no function at all

Didn't work
Didn't work for me either. Followed the instructions and it just took slightly longer when i mashed the camera button.

Try uninstalling the vignette app rr install and press camera button it should ask which one you would like to set by default

[REQUEST] Long Press to Launch Camera in ROM

Not sure why this was deleted last time as users were already discussing this topic. I'd like to know which moderator deleted it and why.
I think it'd be nice for devs to build into their rom a long press of a hardware button to launch the camera app.
If this thread should be in the APP/Themes section, a mod should MOVE it there not delete it entirely. Retarded.
So is this long press of a hardware button (i suggest one of the volume keys) possible to link to launching an app specifically the camera?
i was wondering where it went myself .ah well i like this idea and would use it if it became available.if its even possible
Look for an application on the market that lets your configure the long press on search softkey.
It'll let you load any application by long pressing the search key.
Thank you, works great.

I could be wrong, but i don't think the mods owe you any explanation. If you knew where you went wrong, why ask the question?
Anyways, back on topic, this would be an awesome mod on stock froyo, one I'd like to incorporate into my rom
OOORRRR.... You could long press your "seach key." To my knowledge the long press comes unassigned to anything. If you press it, it will give you an option of which app to use for it.
Search for the camera and VOILA! Again.
Personally, I have it set to QuickDesk.

Is there a way to disable the SEARCH button?

I have a rooted Samsung Vibrant, running Eugene's R2 Ginger Clone. My search button keeps causing search to randomly pop up no matter what I'm doing on my phone. It's becoming very annoying please help.

Can you clarify? Are you pressing the search button and the search is popping up? Or is search randomly showing up without you touching anything?
If it is randomly turning on, then the button is not your problem.
I know there is a mod to change which buttons do what. I saw a guy who changed his so that the search capacitive button actually opened his camera, so he'd have a dedicated camera. If you are interested in changing or disabling that button, I can try to hunt down the thread for you.
Id like the that mod for sure

Not a bad idea....try "button remapper" from the market....it allows you to toggle the function of the hardware buttons...which leads me to believe you can probably deactivate them
report back if you try (it says theres only partial support for Galaxy S variants)

SEARCH. FORUM FOR CALKULIN'S DISABLE SEARCH I USED SOME TIME AGO. WORKED FOR ME.

just tried button remapper on my vibrant running nero v5 w/voodoo. worked fine to re-assign the search button as camera. didn't see anything to completely disable it.
button shortcut didn't either.
fyi
Could you remap it so it does the same thing as the "BACK" button ? Or one could make an app that does nothing. An empty main() method.

Camera button not working

Anybody having trouble with the camera button not working? Camera works only if i click the app. No ota updates installed. Doesn't work to launch app or to take pic or vid.
can HTC install a trackball on this thing?
Mine seems to work just fine, I did install the OTA's though.
Well, maybe a hardware problem. The first phone they activated for me had a non functioning power button. They caught that before I left the store but never checked the camera button.

I know I have to press and hold to launch the camera app from my homescreen.
You have to press and hold the camera button for about ten seconds before it opens

Home Button or Back Button?

What does everyone use when exiting apps, home button or back button?
It's my understanding that pressing the home button leaves the app running in the background so more battery would be used?

Back button to close app indeed.

I use back buton as home buton is waaaaaaaay too laggy.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Depends! If I want to check another app quickly then return I use home (multitasking). If I don't want to use again I always press the back button to kill the process.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Since they have different functionality, your question doesn't really make sense. You use both, depending on what you want to do.
Also, the back button doesn't kill the process, afaik there are cases when the application could remain still running.

Yep, messaging and the stock browser...there are others too...
I just stopped trying to close apps one way or the other. I just "do what i want" (e.g. surf to a website, check an app) and then leave the phone without exiting any apps. After some time I'll check the same site/service anyway, and if I want to do something else it's still just a few presses away.

Use camera button as multitasking key Sony xperia s

Hi everyone
can anyone please help me find a way to use the camera button of my sony xperia s as a multitasking key
i have upgraded to ICS but i still have to long press the home key to launch recent app list which is very annoying.
Thanks.
Its like gingerbread, long press to show recent apps, as far I know it can't be done yet
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
Im not experienced in this field but my logic tells me that its only use is for the camera since its a hardwarebutton.
Good idea though.
In case you want the soft buttons that ICS provides there is a thread called on screen buttons mod in the dev section.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Don't you think changing the function of camera key would be a bit weird? Everytime you have to switch between apps, you'll have to reach the cam key. Waste of time, if you ask me. And I don't think it has been done.
You'd better enable the default on screen buttons of ICS.
Just follow this link:
