[REQUEST] Long Press to Launch Camera in ROM - Nexus One Android Development

Not sure why this was deleted last time as users were already discussing this topic. I'd like to know which moderator deleted it and why.
I think it'd be nice for devs to build into their rom a long press of a hardware button to launch the camera app.
If this thread should be in the APP/Themes section, a mod should MOVE it there not delete it entirely. Retarded.
So is this long press of a hardware button (i suggest one of the volume keys) possible to link to launching an app specifically the camera?

i was wondering where it went myself .ah well i like this idea and would use it if it became available.if its even possible

Look for an application on the market that lets your configure the long press on search softkey.
It'll let you load any application by long pressing the search key.

Thank you, works great.

I could be wrong, but i don't think the mods owe you any explanation. If you knew where you went wrong, why ask the question?
Anyways, back on topic, this would be an awesome mod on stock froyo, one I'd like to incorporate into my rom

OOORRRR.... You could long press your "seach key." To my knowledge the long press comes unassigned to anything. If you press it, it will give you an option of which app to use for it.
Search for the camera and VOILA! Again.
Personally, I have it set to QuickDesk.

Assign program to camera button (Q)

I use Vignette since a while and am very happy with this program.
Now i want to assign Vignette to my camera button so it will open when I press it.
I searched everywhere on my phone but couldn't find it. It sounds to me it should be extremely easy but for some reason I can't figure it out.
Does anyone know how to assign an app to your camera button??
Cheers,
Arnold
Open Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, (wait for it to load), Camera.
Click "Clear Defaults". The next time you press the camera button you'll be prompted as to what application you want to use with it.
The same feature works for other apps, for example Messaging, you can choose another app to handle SMS.
Thank you very much for replying, but I can't clear defaults as there aren't any selected according to the system. Strange thing is however, after I been in this camera settings, my camera button does nothing at all anymore when I push it...
I have the feeling I move further away from what I wanted than coming closer...

You have to press it hard for 2 seconds.. try it... this button is kind of hard to press...
i pressed it so hard for about ten seconds, it almost came out on the other side but the button has now no function at all
Didn't work
Didn't work for me either. Followed the instructions and it just took slightly longer when i mashed the camera button.
Try uninstalling the vignette app rr install and press camera button it should ask which one you would like to set by default

[Q] Is this feature available in CM7??

Is there anyway I can ADD an application to the recent app list (the one you get when you hold the home button)?
I dont want to assign the button to just a single app but to more than one...
I want it in a way that I get the app i want (in the top left corner) and also get the list of recent apps?
I am on Galaxy ace CM7 <grif_07>

But you could find an app that groups apps you want together and bind the app to the long press of home button. The setting is in cyanogenmod settings.

yah, thats what I am doing right now,
But it'd be better to have recent apps + an app manager on the list.

Reminded me about that feature. Tried it in B3 and it didn't work. Works now in Behrad's CM7. Long press menu still doesn't work right now though.

you mean what grif compiled for 2.3.7?
Long press menu is actually a brand thing. Didn't have this function with some other android phones.

You can try QuickDesk on the market.

Theres also wave launcher on the market too. QuickDesk is free however eats into RAM makes the phone a little laggy but its awesome.

Mod menu button!

Hi guys!
I new to this forum section because I'm coming from Nexus S.
I want to ask if is possible that instead of the voice command when we double click to open the search app. or recent tasks.I know that we have the recent tasks by hold the menu button pushed but with the double click is a little quicker.
Maybe it answered but I did not found it yet.
Sorry could you be more clear? i didn't understand what's your problem

I think he asks if its possible to set double tap home button as task manager. He already knows long pressing works as task manager but he wants the double click do the job

Yes something like yhis. Or the double typing could be the search button. So is this possible or not?

I havent heard
I havent heard of any rom that does this. Usually all roms ive seen and flashed..(and trust me.... ive flashed almost all of them....), have taskmanager set to long press on the home button... ill search around and see what i can find.
Im saying this because when i had Nexus S I could use the search button for the recent tasks.

you need a modified rosie.apk
which means you have to be rooted

Its not that you have to be rooted to use the menu button. Its just that the sense launcher i.e. Rosie.apk, doesn't have the menu button unlocked on stock. Really no need for it. So you have to edit the apk to use it on home screen.

[Q] Reprogram "Recent Apps" button

I've done a bunch of searching but haven't found an answer yet. Is there a way to remap the recent apps button to be a menu button? And long press for recent apps? I am stock, s-off, rooted, if that matters. Thanks!
Settings, display gestures buttons, recent apps. You can change it there

It is a recent apps button, not a menu button.
Op, mist roms allow you to change it, but you can't on stock.

Just get a new launcher from Market.
Its easier (and more safe) than mucking around with the stock one.
I know Holo Launcher Pro (HD as widgets, also my all-time favorite launcher for some reason) has the ability to rename drawer tabs, and load either most recent, most frequent, widgets, and custom list in them.
I am sure that there are other launchers that do the same.
If you want to change anything in the stock launcher, you must have root privleges.
Use at your own risk. Havent ever modded a launcher before, only other apps.
Copy the apk to another location (and make a backup if anything goes wrong).
Change the extension to .zip
Explore the zip, and modify anything that looks safe to change.
If you are brave enough, rename the extension to .apk again, and place it back in the "system/app" directory.
Reboot the phone if nessisary.
Use at your own risk.
Please thank me if you found this useful.

Many roms now support this feature and there is also a mod that when you flash it, it will enable this feature.
