I bought my Vibrant off-plan, then swapped in my SIM from my G1.
This means Android doesn't know my phone number. Does anyone know how to set this? Apps like Nimbuzz complain about the missing number.
What? Are you not able to make calls? I took my SIM card from my G1 to a Vibrant and worked fine. What happens when you try and put your SIM card in your G1? Does the # appear again?

Yup, that's it. I'll try the OTA activation message thing. Thanks!
I had this problem on my MYT3G. TMO support was not able to assist.
I finally found a solution here on XDA. (cant find the link right off hand)
I removed my SIM,
powered up the phone
shutdown the phone
installed SIM and voila.... My number now shows up on the phone.
I had this a couple of years ago with my G1. I called T-mo, let them know... 5 minutes and a reboot and it was showing up, no problem. Just call T-Mo...
Thanks again smerff, that worked and the T2 support lady fixed my friend's missing number on the same support call. Can't argue with that!
Mine had always been like this, in my old G1 and now. Figured it was my sim card, I never looked into it though. Maybe I'll call Tmo and see what they day.

This was like this for me with my old SIM card (had it since the days of the first PocketPC Phone Edition from like 2002). Replaced the SIM for other reasons with a brand new one and now my phone number shows up. Don't know if that was the reason or not.
The tmobile rep told me that they were duplicating old sim data to new sim cards for issues just like that. Don't know how that would affect anything or why. Just an idea.

Hi Folks,
I was having the issue with my Vario II (on my 3rd Handset) where the phone enters standby and never wakes up until a soft reset.
When the 3rd handset arrived I decided to bite the bullet and go for WM Black and see if it made the handset any better. Unfortunately, as good as the new ROM (now on V2) is, it didnt solve my hanging issue.
The next thing I decided to do was change the radio ROM. I first went to the 1.38.10 and then to 1.38.11 and then to 1.27.00, as the later was decribed as being the most stable.
As you have probably guessed by now, the issue still plagues me....Even more so since the radio upgrades. The symptoms are as follows;
- Some calls I answer go silent after around 30 secs and I need to soft reset
- The phone can show full bars of signal but the phone diverts to answering machine
- When connecting to the internet, the icons shows as connecting but then drops to no signal (showing a !) then after a while will start to reconnect. Sometimes I need to soft reset to get the connection again
I am wondering if there is something else I am missing that could be causing the issue. I am using it today with no apps and still have the same issues as above plus the freezing issue.
Is there anything else I can change???? or am I just cursed?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers and thanks in advance
Aidan
I would say, try your SIM card in a TOTALLY different phone (not just a different Hermes) As you would have to be fairly unlucky for it to happen with THREE seperate devices, especially with different ROMs also.
If there is a handset available to you that is either a tmobile or SIM unlocked.....give it a go.

I belive it's your SIM card also..ask your provider to replae the SIM card for you. Just tell them your issues and it happened to three handset with the same SIM. I bet they will able to replace the SIM card without charge.

Yep SIM cards cost JACK ALL to the providers. If they do charge you then thats gotta ring alarm bells!!!
Hanging on wake-up was my big disappointment when going from Vario I to Vario II.
It decreased after upgrading to WM6 (first black 1.2, now black 2.0). In my case the SPB mobile shell also did not seem to do the problem any good, probably because it starts the 'now' screen on wake-up.
I have not much software on my device and have very few hanging issues.
I work for a Cingular retailer, and I just signed my fathers business up. Someone had told me that the IMEI on the account had to match the phone on a 3g phone or the exact same symptoms you are seeing would occur. I confirmed it with my pop's business. the three people using 3g phones had serious problems with calls going to VM, not getting txts, and poor service in general. Once i fixed the serial numbers Cingular-side, everything was peachy. This happens to be my first post (longtimelurker) so if I'm full of ****, feel free to tell me. Check with your service provider and make sure they have the right IMEI on file. If not, you'll prolly have to go to a store to have a clerk fix it, but it'll be worth your trip if im right .
Hope I helped.

I don't think IMEI is the issue here. I just signed up with Cingular and got a Motorola K1..but the SIM is a 3G sim. I simply pop that into my Hermes and it's been working for 2 month now without any issues. Another thing with Cingular...the IMEI on their database is automatically updated..it's not like you have a Motorola phone and switched the SIM to a SonyEricsson phone and still using the Motorola IMEI #....it will not work that way. In fact, all GSM providers will automatically update the IMEI in their system once the SIM is registered in their network. I can confirm that with my HTC tytn with the Cingular's online account. You can check the online account pretty much on what type of phone you current have. If I use the Motorola K1, the online account will be updated as unknow phone due to it's new I guess...but when I use the HTC tytn..it's automaticlly updated as HTC 8525...even I manually change the phone type to other phone...after couple minutes..I log back on and it will show the HTC 8525 again. Base on this, I am sure IMEI is not the issue here. One thing to note is that I did get that hanging on wake up when I have the SPB software installed.
i can concur about the IMEI... i havent changed my IMEI on my account since i had a sony ericsson a few years back... and i have no data problems.. i take that back, i had some when i first got the 8525, but then found out i needed the white 3G sim, since then it has been flawless.
Awaiting Sim
Thanks for all the advice. I tried the phone with someone elses sim card the other day and it seemed to behave itself. I am going to phone t-mobile and ask them for a replacement SIM.
Will let you know how I get on.
Cheers

AGGGHHHH!
It doesnt get any better....
I just phoned T-Mobile and asked them for a replacement SIM to be sent out. The girl I spoke to said that she could order me a new SIM which would be out in between 1-3 days but she would have to disconnect my current SIM when the new one was despatched! This means no phone for this time, which I need for business
I asked whether I could phone for activation when the new SIM arrived but this she tells me is not possible.......AGGGGHHH!
She did suggest that I could pay 15quid for an 'interactive' swap over at a T-Mobile store but I have issues getting to a store during the week and they are then going to see that VM6 Black edition is on the phone!
Any suggestions?

What the hell?!?! Thats bullcrap if ive ever heard it, when i got a replacment USIM from O2 my existing one worked until i called O2 to activate the new one? Maybe T-Mobile has a backwards way of provisioning them?! That sucks dude. Suggest you call them again (if you havent already got an order through) and do another request...you may hit the jackpot with a different operator?!

As far as I understand how GSM works...The T-Mobile lady is correct. You can't have the two SIMs having the same #, one has to be deactivated before the new one is active. But if you are sure the new SIM will get to you in a day or two, you can have them to schedule deactivation of the old SIM two days later, schedule the new SIM to be active in two days..the only donw time you have is probably a an hour or two if the timing is correct. If you are able to go to a T-mobile store for direct swap, you can get the new SIM working within an hour but they shouldn't be charging you $15 at the store even you have WM6 black on the phone becasue the phone is not faulty, the faulty part is the SIM and they should honor their warranty.

Agreed on the warranty there dude.
O2 simply sent out a replacment USIM, obviously not activated yet. It arrived and i called them, they took the sim card number and said I should lose reception on my existing sim (it wasnt 3G ready) and thats when i should put the new one in, as soon as i lost reception i swapped and it was working (got the U symbol straight away).
I figure T-mobile would do the same?!?!
Bit the bullet yesterday and paid 15 quid for a new SIM card. It has made he haw difference. Still got major issues. The phone has no signal most of the time and even on the rare occasions when it does, the calls go to answerphone.
The signal shows an exclamation mark (!) and the only way I can get rid of it is to do a hard reset and it works for a couple of hour (or less). It is as though it is constantly in flight mode.
Ok, so I'm totally used to CDMA, obviously, but I've lived abroad and appreciated the beauty of just swapping SIM cards in when you're in a new country.
Is it possible to just swap SIM cards like GSM cards, or do you still have to call Verizon to activate? The reason I ask is, my father and I were going to swap Thunderbolts, but I didn't have time to call Verizon and do the ESN swap thing. Could we just have swapped SIM cards?
SIm card
SIM cards are for GSM technologies.... Verizon LTE is a GSM tech... And yes thats the theory, with Verizon announcing some day you will be able to use other networks LTE SIM cards in VZW phones. Sim card in your fathers phone gives you access to his google account and contacts.. unless you have transferred all google contacts to your SIM card.
It will only work with the sim you are given for the TB.

Got it. So the SIM is tied to the ESN somehow? Either way, they don't work like GSM sims.
they would most likely if the phone were entirely gsm, but since it's not. Like if you ruin the one you have, the only way to get a new one is directly from verizon and they can only be activated for the phone they are first put into.
dude no one here knows what they are talking about. if you swap sims with your dads phone then it should work fine. the phones will activiate with the respective phone number tied to your sim card. that is how you activate a replacement device as well. i just took my sim from my old phone and put it in the new phone and that is it. works JUST like GSM

If that was true, I wouldnt have to replace my SIM card both of the times Ive sent my phone in for repairs. My service is still on, just switched to a different phone. The verizon rep I spoke with yesterday(One of the few that actually know what she was talking about) confirmed that the moment that a phone gets disconnected the sim card gets retired. I dont know why, and I dont understand it, but thats the way VZW is rolling with it for now. As long as I dont have to pay for it, IDC. lol.

that must be because whoever is disconnecting the phone is killing the sim also for some reason. i have used the same SIM card in 2 thunderbolts and a samsung charge.

That's just it. That rep doesn't know what they're talking about. If you get a replacement TB, nothing should be changed on the account - no phone gets "disconnected." You simply move the SIM to the new phone. Sounds like that rep thinks it should be like a CDMA phone, where the account is changed to reflect that the phone's ESN has been changed when swapping phones.

Did you activate an old phone while waiting for repairs? That's really the only way your SIM would be deactivated.

I did. Im still unsure of why they retire my sim though. All in order to send me another one that will sit here till my phone gets back. Why not just put it on hold or put it on temporary hold?
Sim cards work in any phone that will take them.
Just to put this one to bed--they work just like GSM SIM cards. I swapped my SIM between another Thunderbolt and a Charge, and it worked perfectly every single time.
Hello Problem solvers
I am going to buy an HTC Amaze , but there seems to be a little problem with the network of the phone , below i have stated down the exact lines what the seller has told me. Please suggest should i buy this or not.
The seller says :
"I bought it from someone and everything was unused. I put my sim card in and it worked for a few hours then it was unable to read my sim card. My sim still works on my other smartphone, but I do not have the time to find out what is wrong with the phone. I've tried other sim cards from other phones and also did NOT work. Seems like it won't connect to the network no matter what. Maybe the phone is locked or is not able to be used for whatever reason. Everything on the phone works perfectly as new. WIFI, apps, camera camcorder, games, etc. Everything.. Just doesn't seem like it will get any signal from the service provider. Possibly someone will know what to do and can fix or modify it. Can use it like it is or take it for parts, I don't know. Comes with all original equipment: USB cable/charger, manuals, and will have 8GB micro SD card. AGAIN, THE PHONE IS NOT CONNECTING TO THE NETWORK (SERVICE PROVIDER) AT ALL."

He later adds on to his saying :
UPDATE: Actually, the phone recognizes when a sim card is in, but will not connect to the network to make a call or connect for data. I am almost sure nothing is wrong with the phone and possibly could be a problem with the network or service provider.

Has anyone experienced this before? Please let me know what should i do, The price in which he is giving it to me is very good. If there are any solutions for this problem , please mention.
Thank you forum!
Regards,
Hmmm....the phone is like a month old. It is still under warranty. Why isn't the seller getting it fixed rather than take a loss? I'd be very suspicious. It could have been reported stolen and locked down. My spidey sense is tingling.
My replacement did this, I went into network settings and chose network, search automatically and wala problem solved. But still don't hand over the green until your sure.

Could the IMEI be blacklisted?
You have to call Tmo and have them register your sim. I had same prob when I first got amaze.

it might also be the sim card ... i know when i bought the amaze from the tmo store they said it will not take the sim from my old phone and that it only works with the sim card that came with the phone...
Phone: HTC Amaze 4g
Provider: T mobile
Okay I have been having this problem for about 2 months now and I'm tired of it ! I cannot call or text just one person in my contacts *my girlfriend* and I'm really trying everything possible to try and fix it. I've deleted her contact , I've entered her number manually, I've factory reset my phone. I can call her once in a while but its usually rarely ! I can get her texts but not her calls. And she can't get my texts or calls. Someone please help and thank you
Did you buy your phone on Craig's or Ebay or Backpage?
No I got the phone brand new from t mobile. Before we were able to talk fine and then just one day we couldn't for some reason.
Could be Sim related. Walk into a Tmo store and see what they say.
Is it rooted and Rom'd?

I checked her phone I'm not on the blacklist.
Try your sim card in another phone and call/text her. I'd it works its your phone if not the possibly your sim. You can also try the same thing with her phone to see if the issue is her sim.
Good luck!
I was born in Darkness.....
OK this is my first post and it's a weird one. I've always known phones to be useless without a SIM card except for emergency calls. Well today I purchased an S4 on Craigslist. As I was bringing it home, it started to ring. I didn't answer it and shortly after I received a text. There was no SIM in it so I thought it was weird but left it alone.
When I got home, I did a factory reset, put in my old SIM card and activated it to my number. Everything went well - received texts normally, emails worked great, called my husband's phone and worked great until I looked at his phone and saw that the number that popped up wasn't mine, it was the old number. Tried calling my phone with his and went straight to vmail.
Seems like everything activated correctly except for the phone function. Called Verizon and the rep thought it was odd as well since texts went through, but could not figure it out. The rep said the phone is probably tampered with, but I've never heard of anything that could make phone calls without a SIM or wifi.*I reactivated my old phone and left the S4 with no SIM and it's still able to make/receive phone calls!! Weird!
All IMEI numbers match, physical and in About Phone even on box. Phone is not rooted according to Root checker.
Please someone tell me what this is so I can just can undo it and activate my number to the new phone. Thanks
Maybe Verizon or an emergency service was trying to call you... They don't need a sim for that.
The old phone issue is normal every time they port a number or switch a number they [email protected]#$ it up I've had it happen a couple times it on their end not yours

The Sim is only for LTE service, you use built in CDMA radios for calling.
I honestly don't know about the number issue, take it to a corporate Verizon store (the private stores only care about sales not customer service) to have them properly activate it.

Sounds like the phone is set to nv-only mode. The vzw s4 is fully operational in this mode but it won't pull your phone info from the sim card.
This is the mode we put the phone in when flashing to carriers like page plus, selectel, etc.
If you want, you can PM me the meid of the device and/or the phone number the calls are being placed with. I'll check to see if it's an active page plus account.
