I'm new to the whole Android thing........ I'm not completely happy with a couple of things with my phone... I have the Samsung Vibrant from T-Mobile. The music player is good but not quite up to par in my book and was wondering if anyone knew of a different one I could use? And if anyone knew how to sync the phone with my computer or is this possible as well...... Thanks in advance!
I use MortPlayer. As for syncing, do you mean contacts, music, photos...?
Sent from my Vibrant using the XDA app.
with the syncing I'm just trying to get my calender and contacts and everything..... I guess the normal things you would sync with your computer from a windows mobile device......
It syncs your calendar and contacts to gmail. As of today I'm sure if you use hotmail you can set up hotmail as your ' corporate' mail and sync calendar and contacts
If you want to do old fashioned way and sync to outlook you can use samsung kies program

Thanks i really qppreciate the help! Do you know if there is a way to gey rid of the tmobile screen on start up and power off with out having to root or anything like that? Im not quite brave enough to atempt that yet........

I use MixZing music player. You can specify what folders you want it to use for music, has a homescreen widget, and a lockscreen widget (that actually takes over your lockscreen, i don't like that part).
Thanks I really appreciate the help from everyone........ I'm still curious about the t-mobile screens on start up and shut down and if they can be changed without rooting.....
Tmobile has the double twist app. Looks alot like itunes. Haven't really messed with it to much though to give a solid review.

Thanks so much for the last one! So far the double twist seems the most promising! I greatly appreciate the help with the music player!

First off welcome to Android. In answer to your question, no I do not know of a way to remove the bootup screen without rooting.
Also I am using Zimly player at the moment. Had it for a few days and it works quite well. Love the look and feel of the UI

those are system files, so you will need to have root...... unfortunately.
Thanks.... I was really hoping I wouldn't have to root but everything so far is leaning towards having to root!
Unfortunately, You will have to have root to change those. You can use the One Click Lag Fix in the market. This will allow you to root your phone. I have used it and it worked quite well. If anything goes wrong, You can use the same app to unroot your phone.
Thanks I really appreciate all of the help!
Root is cake on the vibrant nothing to fear. Easiest device I have ever rooted.

Yes it is. I have rooted the G1, the MyTouch 3G and now the Vibrant. The Vibrant is by far the easiest to root.
I haven't tried it but I imagine the Samsung Kies would work the best for any kind of syncing, including calendar. You can download it from Samsung > http://www.samsung.com/ae/consumer/...XSG/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support

+1 on this, the vibrant is by far the easiest phone to root, AND it is almost impossible to brick.....ALMOST.
Also once you root, you can remove all of that bloat-ware curtesy of samsung and tmobile.
That is one of the primary reasons I rooted, to remove all of the bloatware!!!!
About how much app space is taken up bloat ware

I was just wondering if upgrading to Froyo will replace the camera App that came with my Vibrant. This camera has the best options. The panoramic creator itself is worth NOT upgrading to me. I just want to know what the upgrade removes from stock Vibrant with Touchwiz. I have rooted and OCLF. Could I backup the camera App and restore it in Froyo?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I would imagine that if you backup the original camera app to your SD Card, you should be able reinstall it. Although, if the update DOES change it to a new app (which I highly doubt), you will still have the option to install the other one.. just like how you can use FXCamera from the Market as an alternative...

Samsung is likely just preparing all of their custom apps for froyo, so the camera app will likely be the same... maybe with some improvements by Samsung.
There its no camera in froyo... They took it out completely to save space... They figure you will be spending all your time playing farmville anyway...

santiemanuel ported the Nexus S livewallpapers.apk to 2.2. I made a standalone apk just for the Nexus wallpaper.
This is the one that has the simulated depth (squares are different sizes).
Works great nice job as usual
Vibrant + Heathen's 2.2.1 <3
Doesn't work. Had to force close.

You think you can make a 2.1 version? I downloaded this one but it force closes. I know it's for 2.2, but hoping you could make an apk for 2.1. Thanks.

I'm not trying to flame or anything...
But if you frequent XDA and know how to get LWP from here etc...
Why are you still on 2.1 when there are plenty of excellent 2.2 Roms here.
I use my phone as my primary device, I don't want to take risks yet because it has already been sent in for repair because of a faulty motherboard. I'm trying to put my confidence in for something official, but I eventually will cave in and root my phone.
Go ahead & root Chechen.
Do you really think the "official" build won't be buggy?
Back to stock (for warranty claims, etc) is easy & relatively painless.
Trust me, you'll be happy you did.
Alright. I'll take your word for it.

I have an AT&T X10 on 1.6. I rooted to remove at&t apps, add tether, swype, etc. I pretty much have it running exactly how I want, I think. Question is, should I mess with upgrading? What will I gain? Will I have to re-install all the apps? I assume I'll have to re-root to get the root apps to work?
Thanks in advance.

use your brain little or just simply google it
2.1 is way better than the 1.6
You get HD recording for the camera. Better user interface. Better keyboard. Snappy time scape and media scape. You also get live wall papers. There are many more things which I want you to discover yourself to make it interesting.
The bottom line is to get an update. Its really worth it.

What app is best to freeze apps with ? Thanks
I use Antek app root manager but I guess everyone will tell you to go with Titanium backup.
I like bloat freezer it works nice
Can you just delete them? Instead of freezeing them?

It is possible to delete them from what i understand... but from what else i understand, if you delete them, you'll need to put them back if you intend on doing any of the OTA updates in the future. So... yea.... po-tay-to, po-tah-to.
titanium backup....
the best bang for your buck on any android device
I use titanium backup and just delete them if for some reason you need them back just reflash a rom.

Titanium backup all the way!

I used to use titanium backup pro up until about a week ago. Then I found Antek which does what I need it to do, all I ever really used titanium backup for, which is freeze bloatware. Never really used it to back up much stuff cause unlike most people I choose to reinstall everything fresh when I flash a ROM. It just feels newer. If all u wanna do is freeze bloatware, I would go with Antek.

Don't delete.
It's a real PITA if you need to restore an app for any reason.
With the processing power, ram, and storage why would you need to delete?...

As for OP's question, Titanium Backup Pro by a landslide.
IMHO everyone should own this app since its like the "Swiss Army Knife" of Android apps...

System Tuner can freeze app and much more!
System Tuner now allows freezing/unfreezing apps very easily and much more features.
You can check its details here:

One of the many reason I prefer System Tuner Pro, much more features than just app management, and it's still being updated with new features very frequently.
And not the least, it's still cheaper than Titanium Backup Pro! It can actually replace both TBP and System Panel Pro for much much less bucks! And still offer more features than both apps united!
STP should be the 3rd app on any Android phone if not the first considering it offers many features without root requried!
The first 2 could well be ClockWorkMod and root for those wishing to have extended control over their phone.
I use bloat freezer and love it. It seems to be much more descriptive on the thing I'm freezing than TiB which usually reports com.something
