I was just wondering if upgrading to Froyo will replace the camera App that came with my Vibrant. This camera has the best options. The panoramic creator itself is worth NOT upgrading to me. I just want to know what the upgrade removes from stock Vibrant with Touchwiz. I have rooted and OCLF. Could I backup the camera App and restore it in Froyo?

I would imagine that if you backup the original camera app to your SD Card, you should be able reinstall it. Although, if the update DOES change it to a new app (which I highly doubt), you will still have the option to install the other one.. just like how you can use FXCamera from the Market as an alternative...

Samsung is likely just preparing all of their custom apps for froyo, so the camera app will likely be the same... maybe with some improvements by Samsung.
There its no camera in froyo... They took it out completely to save space... They figure you will be spending all your time playing farmville anyway...

I am new to this android world, but I love it. I recently did the no PC needed root (which is working great) and the lag fix (2200 quadrant score).
I was wondering what is a good app to use to back-up my Vibrant? Also, will rooting stop me from being able to getting Froyo?
Thanks for the answers!

You can try My Back up Pro or Titanium Back up which you can find on the Market.
santiemanuel ported the Nexus S livewallpapers.apk to 2.2. I made a standalone apk just for the Nexus wallpaper.
This is the one that has the simulated depth (squares are different sizes).
Works great nice job as usual
Vibrant + Heathen's 2.2.1 <3
Doesn't work. Had to force close.

Works awesome on Nero v1. Thanks!!
You think you can make a 2.1 version? I downloaded this one but it force closes. I know it's for 2.2, but hoping you could make an apk for 2.1. Thanks.

I'm not trying to flame or anything...
But if you frequent XDA and know how to get LWP from here etc...
Why are you still on 2.1 when there are plenty of excellent 2.2 Roms here.
I use my phone as my primary device, I don't want to take risks yet because it has already been sent in for repair because of a faulty motherboard. I'm trying to put my confidence in for something official, but I eventually will cave in and root my phone.
Go ahead & root Chechen.
Do you really think the "official" build won't be buggy?
Back to stock (for warranty claims, etc) is easy & relatively painless.
Trust me, you'll be happy you did.
Alright. I'll take your word for it.

Just odined myself back to stock and installed Trigger. I was going through market and can't find several apps I had before loosing all my data. I'm missing Clockr Evolution, wolfram alpha FSU login (school app), and possibly more.... Those were some of my favorite apps, if anyone knows how to fix this, I'd love any ideas.
I had the same problem with stock froyo and so did a lot of people, but all my apps showed up on the market when I flashed bionix-v.

Not sure if this would work, but visit the android market website on your computer. It lists all of the apps you have previously purchased with the option to download them on your phone.

I actually tried the website. It tells me those Apps are vibrant incompatible... I'll try Bionix-v later on.

What app is best to freeze apps with ? Thanks
I use Antek app root manager but I guess everyone will tell you to go with Titanium backup.
I like bloat freezer it works nice
Can you just delete them? Instead of freezeing them?

It is possible to delete them from what i understand... but from what else i understand, if you delete them, you'll need to put them back if you intend on doing any of the OTA updates in the future. So... yea.... po-tay-to, po-tah-to.
titanium backup....
the best bang for your buck on any android device
I use titanium backup and just delete them if for some reason you need them back just reflash a rom.

Titanium backup all the way!

I used to use titanium backup pro up until about a week ago. Then I found Antek which does what I need it to do, all I ever really used titanium backup for, which is freeze bloatware. Never really used it to back up much stuff cause unlike most people I choose to reinstall everything fresh when I flash a ROM. It just feels newer. If all u wanna do is freeze bloatware, I would go with Antek.

Bloat freezer works well, there's also app quarantine and tB
TitaniumBackup pro is best for me

Don't delete.
It's a real PITA if you need to restore an app for any reason.
With the processing power, ram, and storage why would you need to delete?...

As for OP's question, Titanium Backup Pro by a landslide.
IMHO everyone should own this app since its like the "Swiss Army Knife" of Android apps...

System Tuner can freeze app and much more!
System Tuner now allows freezing/unfreezing apps very easily and much more features.
You can check its details here:

You should add after they have root as well seeing as i tried to install and it doesnt work on my phone(no root/unlock yet)
I normally just rename the apk in my system folder using root explorer. App.apk_fro

One of the many reason I prefer System Tuner Pro, much more features than just app management, and it's still being updated with new features very frequently.
And not the least, it's still cheaper than Titanium Backup Pro! It can actually replace both TBP and System Panel Pro for much much less bucks! And still offer more features than both apps united!
STP should be the 3rd app on any Android phone if not the first considering it offers many features without root requried!
The first 2 could well be ClockWorkMod and root for those wishing to have extended control over their phone.
I use bloat freezer and love it. It seems to be much more descriptive on the thing I'm freezing than TiB which usually reports com.something

Bloat freezer doesn't come up when I search the Market..Where is it?
In my first post I posted when I joined this website I asked about a camera app for cm7 that was like the stock vibrant camera app. I now want to know, after some info given to me in that post, what are the best camera apps that can be flashed, by rom manager or odin, and are compatible with cm7 that closely resemble or are nicer looking than the stock 2.1 camera. I think my biggets thing is just that the 2.1 cam looks like it takes the whole phones screen rather than cm7 which has a black line at the bottom which makes the camera look smaller. Again any and all help welcome and thanks in advance
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Actually you could really just take any 3rd party camera app and push the .apk to the directory of system/app/ with root explorer. The app will then become a system app. You don't neccesarily have to flash it via Odin or CWR.
Sent from my SGH-T959 (Samsung Vibrant)
Ok thanks so my new question is if I was to rip the camera.apk app with root explorer and replace it in cm7 would I keep the 2.1 camera? I know you can do it to remove or add apks to roms but I didnt know if the firmware versions would be an issue (ex 2.1 cam on 2.3.7)
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Although it should work, I'm not 100% as I've never tried it. So make sure you're play it safe and do a backup... I would suggest you do a backup in CWR (or a Nandroid Backup) just in case as you can never be to safe. Plus I wouldn't delete the 2.1 camera.apk, just move it to another location like to your sd card. This way if the CM7 camera doesn't work you can just switch it back with the original one.
Ok thanks for the info im actually gonna try it sometime today ill be sure to post if it works or not
