Hi,
I have been using the HD2 since christmas and other then the updates from HTC i only have 1 or 2 apps on it.
for a while now the phone has gotten all sluggish, studdering when scrolling through the "windows" or taking a few secs to unlock etc.
another problem, dont know if they are related, is that the sluggishness is very noticable when writting text messages or emails. Often it feels like the phone is trying to catch up with my typping. Another annoying thing is that the coursor will jump around, i.e. writting a sentence and then pressing "," and the "," will all the sudden be at the beginning of the message ...
Anyone experience this kind of problem and know a fix?
Any help is greatly appreciated
What rom are you running ?
Have you tried using task manager and cleanram to free up memory and make sure the phone isn't working on other things in the backround ?
Sometimes if twitter is updating when im typing i get an issue like you've mentioned but generally its not that bad, but there's always the little few milliseconds delay which doesn't sound much but does hinder the typing...
you probably have a load of txt messages built up. The hd2 doesnt perform at all well when there are more than a hundred or so txts saved.

Just noticed DCD 4.1 is up on his site. Will probably try it this weekend. Anyone try it yet?
I posted this earlier a couple people have tried it.

I agree DCD, and I'm sure a lot of others do too. Post here or somewhere else. If you go somewhere else, leave us some breadcrumbs so we can find you.
I gave it a try, seems to run well. About 23meg on start up. Anyone else?
same here 23 mb on start up - with app. s2u2, GPS, TomTom, call calendar, s2p,and more .....
runs smoth ...thanks DCD
Gonna try this NOW....
SDAutoRun issue?
has anyone else had a problem with UC? this rom seems awesome 27.32mb on clean boot, but UC seems to hang and isnt installing anything. anyone else?
EDIT: nevermind. 1 damn symbol missing from my code.
I'm using this rom now and I don't have any problems yet. I'll post updates if I do.
same here. loving it so far
Were the vouge dialers calc and comm manager removed? They seemed to be when I flashed...
I also had a HUGE text msg problem where it tried to (and did) resend a TON of my unsuccessful texts and from months back...this was just after I did a simple restore with Pim Backup, it never happened on any other release.
My free mem was also less than 3.3.4, and 3.3.4 has 48.25 total whereas 4.1 only has 47.45MB total.
So, I'm still rocking 3.3.4 and loving it. I'll wait till DCD officially releases it as sometimes, he just posts things up there as beta tests for friends.
so heres a new one. my phone just HARD RESET itself. i noticed my text messages didnt have contacts anymore, tried opening my contacts and it said it oculdnt be found. i opened resco explorer to restore my contacts, and it said it couldnt be found. i soft reset the phone and it loaded the calibration screen and went through UC again. ****.
Text messages that have been read show up as NOT being read. I'm using Manila 2d, so I have to scroll through them a few times and they will finally be marked at read. Pretty annoying. I had to flash back to 3.3.4.
Neurom3 did that same thing, plus battery life with Neurom3 is horrible.
I don't see any problems with text messages, I don't see why people are complaining.
a) no one is complaining. just reporting
b) the problem is, every text message must basically be selected in order to save it as read. if you get 2 txts at the same time from 1 person, and open it, the 1st txt received will stay in bold us unread, unless you scroll up with the pad, passed the second text, and let the cursor land on or go above the contact's name. so this also means that if you have a pretty old text message that you never selected, you either have to delete the chain, or scroll up through pages to find your 1 unread text.

Hmm, I haven't that problem really, though maybe I just automatically do that. But I have BAD (black hole) reception at my house so if I try and send a text it usually says message not sent, click to try again. So it's never automatically resent texts and this time it was apparently successful sending 50 texts over hours of time - which I didn't know about.
I tried his one from Dec25th but it had the new IE app which I didn't like since I use lots of websites that work nice and fast with older pocket IE. The dialer and connection manager skins were also ugly. Haven't seen those in a long time...
After I flashed the new 4.1.0 ROM, everything seemed to be fine except the number 1 button on the dialer keypad disappeared. Has anyone experienced that? Is there a solution for the problem?
I've read earlier posts that had the same problem I do, but most of them were old (and hopefully the problem has been fixed now)
Swype makes the messaging lag because the client has to load a certain amount of messages before you can start. is there a way to either fix this, OR make the client not load as many messages?
i experienced the same problem so had to ditch swpye a few months back, great substitute for typing making fewer mistakes savng time so if anyone does have a solution please let us know
nope, apart from regularly deleting your texts theres no way round it....
swype has its own issues with lag though whether its htc messaging or winmo messaging... even right now ads I try and type this reply swype is making me want to smash my face into the phone and scream "why wont you type? why wont you ducking type!!"
Go to settings tab, then More.
then go to 'Personal', and go to 'Input'.
When your input methode is Swype, tap on the button Options.
In the options scroll a bit down, and look for the part called 'Operation'.
Slide the slider of Speed vs Accuracy completely to the left (fast response).
Then tap ok, and it should work better.
Let me know if it worked for you, because they told me here on XDA it can possibly work, but I dont have received enough text messages yet to test it.

Nah, that's how I always keep mine, using it any either way drives my crazy-er! thanks for trying though.
What do you mean, it works exacly the same
had same problem for a long time , only affects swype
On the hd2 their are temp files the msging app uses i noticed its bassicly a giant debug log. When I saw mine after only having my phone for 2 months it was about a gig or so...I highly suggest deleting that. I am not sure if the HD2 opens that or its just an appendage type thing.
the best "solution" I've discovered is just turning off threaded messages. it's kind of frustrating, but there is no lag now...
I've found that custom keyboards are laggy for me too. The best solution that I have found is to simply make my phone faster. when I overclock or install a custom kernel on my phone, it usually decreases the lag caused by custom keyboards.

Good point, but it does not work everywhere. If you open a message from the sense preview it always starts the threaded view even if it is disabled in the inbox. Do you know a way how to disable threaded view there too?

Yes, you're right, and no, I don't. I just have to go through all the shenanigans of clicking everything. To me, it's worth it to use swype, and it's still faster and less tedious in my opinion, than waiting for messages to load.
Now I am using the ShapeWriter beta. It does not lag like Swype, however I really miss the vibration and a few other things. like swyping smileys.
For me, the lag only occurs when I use the newer version, 3.9.
If I use the older version of Swype I get no lag. Don't know what the version is but I attached a screen shot of it.
Hello All,
My girlfriend just got a new Orange SGS2. The phone is great, really slim, fast at playing games, high linpack score etc.
However there is a problem that really bothers me, apps load pretty much instantly however when you press the home button they take ~6 seconds to close!
This happens with even the most basic apps such as the dialler or contacts and is very frustrating as I am sure the SGS2 should be performing better than this. My HTC Desire (and even my old HTC hero to a slightly lesser extent) closes apps pretty much instantly
Hope the gurus of XDA can help with this one.
Many thanks,
hopoffbaby
Okay, the reason your old phone shut them instantly was because it needed to free up resources.
The SGS2 is a far superior phone in terms of spec and as such it doesn't need to shut its apps the moment you hit home.
Android is very capable to say the least when managing its resources so stop watching the task-manager and RAM usage, don't use a task killer and just enjoy life with the SGS2 it'll never struggle.
Mine regularly has 15+ apps running in the background with no noticeable effect on its stunning performance.
Hi,
I think you have misunderstood me. I'm not talking about the kernel killing the apps to free memory, I'm talking about how long it take to return to the home screen after pressing the home (or back) button.
For example, I open the contacts app and it loads instantly. When i click the home button I can count to 6 (slowly) before I am back at the home screen.... It is incredibly annoying and I am sure it is not how Samsung intended??
Thanks again,
hopoffbaby
Should be instant .
You may need to factory reset after backing up data .
jje
Hi,
I was hoping to avoid a factory reset. I have read a few people are having issues (none seem to be as long as 6 seconds though) and that it may be related to the voice control or the touchwiz launcher?
Any thoughts on that?
thanks
Hi,
I toggled the driving mode on and off again and that seems to have go the delay down to around 2 seconds which is a massive improvement, although still not ideal I don't think. What I don't understand however is that the driving mode wasn't on in the first place so why did this make a difference?
Does anyone know what driving mode actually does?
Thanks,
hopoffbaby
I'm new to this forum so I really have no idea what I'm doing. And I'm not crazy smart with my phone. I have a Droid Eris and it's super slow. Everything runs slow even when no applications are open. I dont have a lot of apps open because I have the task killer. I got rid of all my texts too and deleted a few apps. When I go to call someone, it's delayed for about two minutes and finally calls. I also have problems with text messages, sometimes when I go to text back I'll type but nothing will show up in the box where I'm typing. I was reading about roots and such, but I have no idea how to go about doing this or changing everything so it can be faster. I need some serious step by step information as I'm not familiar with all the terms and what everything means. I've seen a few posts about this but don't understand it at all. Please help!
These phones are not fast period lol my fiance uses one and i rooted and flashed many roms to it and it still has a lag....shes running cm7 and its better than the stock rom but still laggy....even on froyo its laggy but guess that what we get using a 3+ year old phone

Is your phone rooted or unrooted? If rooted what ROM are you running?
Either way, when's the last time you deleted a bunch of old text messages? I think I've read that when you have a buildup of a lot of old text (and especially MMS) messages, it can slow your phone down.
If all else fails and you're running the stock (unrooted) ROM, you could try a Factory Reset. The phone will be just like when it was new, so you should back up your apps that you have installed, and their data, if you feel you must, then after the Factory Reset only add things back a little at a time. I find that once your phone has less than 40MB of RAM left on a regular basis, that it really causes it to slow down tremendously.
I love Android, I truly do... but there is one thing I just cannot stand about any Android phone I've seen: the SMS app(s). The SMS apps and responsiveness of them are atrocious. I've had my system hang plenty of times when trying to send SMS along with MMS too, is there any reason for it? I don't see such an issue when it comes to iOS... I have no other UI responsiveness issues when it comes to Android other than anything SMS related.
I originally had an Acer Liquid E before, granted it's not the best phone, but I flashed a custom ROM for it, UI responsiveness was increased, however one problem still remained: SMS app(s) responsiveness. I recently purchased a Galaxy S2 LTE thinking that it would be fixed, however the problem STILL remains... and I'm boggled as to why it remains even after ICS.
Is there anyone that can provide some sort of explanation or has a similar annoyance with it?

Same here, HTC Desire, 4.0.4.
Whenever I open a thread which has a larger amount of texts in it, the app hangs on loading and then on scrolling.
I think it's due to the way the interface for reading and storing messages (which is app-independent) has a sub-optimal way of retrieving them, causing the app to hang during operations with the database.

I don't really get lag when opening convos, but only when sending SMS/MMS, not sure if anyone else has this issue or if you do too..
I've switched to Sky-ICS and I still have this issue with a little over 20k+ texts... I really, REALLY wonder if there is a fix to this issue, I'm sure I'm not the only one that experiences huge lag when sending and receiving SMSes (on stock or 3rd party apps).
Obviously removing the 20k texts would fix the issue, but I don't see why this should be necessary? iOS doesn't have this issue...
