Hey xda, ive been have trouble with my rooted froyo eris. im not receiving text messages at all from anyone, even when i know they just texted me. i know this problem isnt related to the rom or froyo itself, as ive tried both tazz's rom and kaos's. plus i havent had this problem on froyo before. any ideas?
You probably do not have the correct APN files anymore. These let your phone know which towers to connect to. You may have used a ROM that was based on a ROM from another carrier (like Sprint). Try this:
1. Boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
2. Download a ROM with the correct APN files, like Plain Jane (basically a stock ROM with root). One version of Plain Jane can be found here:
hxxp://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718092/ ( I don't think I can post links yet so change hxxp to http)
3. Do a full data wipe in recovery and then install the Plain Jane ROM.
4. Reboot into the new ROM.
5. Make sure 3G and Sync is on and you should get all your missed text messages, once everything is finished syncing.
6. On the market, grab the app "APN Backup & Restore".
7. Run APN Backup & Restore and bachup your APNs. The app will create a folder on you SD card with the APN files. Hold on to those files and if you wipe your SD, make sure you back them up somewhere.
8. Then you can restore to your nandroid backup or load any other ROM. The just run "APN Backup & Restore" and restore you APNs.
I hope this helps you.
Instead of going through the trouble of nand backup, flashing a generic ROM, etc., just stay with your current ROM, download APN Backup and Restore from the market and paste the following XML into a text editor like notepad, name the file original-apns.xml and put it in /sdcard/ApnBackupRestore/. Run APN Backup and Restore from the phone and restore the apn from there.
Below is the code for Verizon Droid Eris (won't work for Hero).
Code:
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='yes' ?>
<apns count="3">
<apn name="CDMA" numeric="00000" mcc="000" mnc="00" apn="0" user="null" server="null" password="null" proxy="null" port="" mmsproxy="" mmsport="" mmsprotocol="" mmsc="" type="*" />

Hi people
All you know that we can use Operator tab as second launcher. Also there is an application from HTC called Action Screen. So I have an idea to transform operator tab to Action Screen tab. But I am not a programmer, so need help.

I created cab, test it and leave feedback. All created though the registry. I know it is not comfortable. So maybe one Hero-programmer will realize my idea to complete application??
About cab
Before install please make a backup. Why it is necessary? Because in the cab there is my HTC Homesettings.xml file and I have non-htc device (HP Ipaq 614c), so I don’t know how it will work on your device. Also want to say that I have TouchFLO version 1.0.1818.3719 cooked in ROM
As you can see now it has six icons:
Message (Start new SMS)
Mail (Start new Mail)
Alarm (don’t work (how to create direct shortcut to start new alarm???))
Appointment (New Appointment)
Task (New Task)
Note (New Note)
If you want to change an application to open with, go to registry HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\Operator\2\ and change Path (for example I use G-Alarm to start New Alarm or ThumbCal to start new Appointment and new Task)
Also there are two softkeys: Calendar and Setting. Now don’t work, it is for future. (it can be changed through the registry)
TEST IT AND LEAVE FEEDBACK
PS Sorry for my English ))
great work!
Works great. Thanks. You were right. I had to use my own HomeSettings xml file. After installation TF2D didn't start up.
Another usefull addition to TF2D.
I think you made a backup

This looks promising. I'll give it a try tonight after my son goes to bed. Thanks for the innovation!

I also wanted to re-use that tab, for the m3d weather remade on flash:

Here M2D Action Screen tab with BT, WiFi and phone sound/vibrate.
Awesome !!
Thanks for sharing !!
Sweet work! I need to try this out later! I can't have anything wrong happen with my device now, but I'll try it tomorrow!
I'm happy to say that it works fine for me, after manually editing my original xml file. Any idea on what reg keys I need to look for to get the softkeys working? And could you either make a contact icon in the style you're posting, or could you provide the blank icon background so we can make our own?
Thanks, and nice job!

It's no strange.....
Operator widget have rectangle built in, but if you set btnicon to 68 image overwrite it.
Try to change this row in xml
Code:
<Property name="IDOPERATORWG_BTNICON" id="11" value="[b]45[/b]" />
Thanks for sharing.
Now I have it on my Omnia: with 240 x 400 resolution i can use 3 rows (total 9 buttons)

Hello,
There are way too many versions of iGo all over the internet and I have tried several ones. It looks like iGo folder structure is shared across many platforms and the .apk for Android is the one that manages its interactions with the OS.
I managed to get iGo and LoquendoTTS (v7, I guess) installed on my phone and they both seems to work fine, except for one problem. Whatever language/voice I select inside iGo has no effect to the TextToSpeach engine. In other words, it will ALWAYS get the system default language/voice. Why is that?
Let me be more specific: I want my phone language to be set to English, but I need iGo use the TTS engine in Brazilian Portuguese. If I set phone language to English, then I enter iGo and choose a Portuguese voice, the TTS sound will be spoken in Portuguese words, but with English pronounciation and voice. On the other hand, if I choose Portuguese in Android's settings then Portuguese in iGo, everything is spoken in Portuguese.
It seems to be an iGo problem, not Android's. Every other app I have that uses TTS will allow me to select the language/voice to be used, except for iGo.
I found out a few things:
1) Loquendo installs its language/voice settings to its default folder (usually /sdcard/LoquendoTTS/) and here is an example:

As you can see, iGo voice file has redundant settings to tell the system which language/voice to use.
The thing is: I tried a lot of combinations to these settings, but none got to work. I wonder why.
My only guess was to assume that these settings are specific iGo For WinCE, not for Android. As for I've heard WinCE comes with a loq_tts subfolder with some .dll and .exe files to make the LoquendoTTS engine to work.
Is anyone capable of giving me some directions on this? I am totally lost.
Thanks in advance.
How would I go about adding a different companies APN settings to a ROM so that it can be autodetected? Or maybe make a flashable zip?

add a file named apns-conf.xml in /system/etc and add data according to this file http://pastebin.com/cY5vE7ji.
apn will be automatically selected as per carrier's mcc and mnc code
I found the settings for the carriers in Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Qatar if anyone else needs them.
Code:

HELP!!!
Hello, I am currently in Afghanistan trying to get Roshan Data working on my Unlocked, Rooted, T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4. I have been looking everywhere to find out how to do this. Some posts lead me to believe I have a hidden T-Mobile APNS in my phone that I can't delete which is affecting the ROSHAN APNS. It looks like that you figured it out to me. Please lead me in the right direction. Yes I am a noob to this stuff, but I would really appreciate any help.
Open /etc/apns-conf.xml (root required) and add the lines from my prior post. Or, attach your current one, and I can make you a flashable zip

XML editor that will work?
Hello again and thank you for your quick response. So I downloaded a root browser and found the apns-conf.xml file. I used the Axel App to open it up and tried several times to add the new lines. After saving with Axel the file has issues opening up again. The current apns-conf.xml file is a read only, so I am having to open and save as then add lines, but again, I am trying to find an app that will do this successfully. Thank you again for bringing me closer to my goal.
I managed to add the APNS for Roshan using 920 Text Editor to the apns-conf.xml file. But still no data.
APN flashable zip

I have attached required APN config file Kindly provide flashable Zip.
I tried to copy via OI file manager but I cannot as it does not shows respective folder after selecting copy function.

Sagar
