[Q] Android on HD2. help - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I got a mytouch 3g slide when it first came out. Rooted it with the first root method by Eugene, tried many roms, and i finally decided to have stability. So that led me to Cyanogen mod 6, with overclock.
So im asking, if i were to look for a android rom.
Which rom has the best stability, has froyo, anddd sense (widgets, clock animations etc.)?
it doesnt have to be froyo exactly, if its a fast, stable, reliable 2.1 sense rom i will be happy. Thank you in advance.
Also it would be nice to have direction on where to start modding the hd2, theres so much info in this section i got lost lol.

In search for a good Rom

Hi all,
I just got my Hero and haven't tried a custom rom jet. Therefor i want to start with the most "stock-like" and stable 2.1 rom, so no fancy extra's.. only to get the 2.1 feeling.
Which rom would you guys advise?
So to be clear, this is NOT a topic for finding " the best rom there is " (cause posts on that topic are always removed..) but just to look for the most basic , stable 2.1 rom.
Hope someone can help, thanks!
VillainRom 5.5
i didn't get along with villain; sensehero is the only 2.1 that's lasted more than 24 hours on my phone.
m8
try both of them and choose
(personally I like SenseHero)
I use VanillaEclair 2.0.1
Tried Villian, but it felt a bit slow trying to navigate menus, as well as a bit bored of sense so wanted a change

same. tried lots of 2.1 roms and found this one most reliable.
fast, stable, no batt drain and good support.
check it out here.
Hi Guys,
thanks for all of your quick reply's , this should get me started!
Guess i'll try Vanilla's first
You might like the SuperHero when it is released to public. Meant to be as fast as non-sense android with a couple of sense features chucked in for good measure.
For me it's SlideVillain - it's beautifull and very fast&stable. In my opinion it's even faster when you also activate app2sd good luck

[Q] Which Rom

Hey,
sorry for the question, many people may hate me now, but reading about roms confuses me much more than it clears up my problems.
I'm using my Hero with Stock 2.1. Now I want to Upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3. Can you please recommend me a ROM which is stable like my stock 2.1 and has FULL functionallity (with Market, Cam and GPS) and Sense.
PS: Should I use 2.2 instead of 2.3, because it's more settled?
Thanks a lot!
There is no rom with 2.2 or 2.3 that has the things you want.
What is the problem stability or functionality?
2 years ago I tried Windows Mobile 6.5 custom and Android 1.5 on my HTC Tytn II - both are stupid. Android was slow as hell and Win Mobile 6.5 crashed once a day. I don't want that back!
Both. No 2.2 or 2.3 Rom with Sense is stable (or at least what I would call stable), and the Camera never works.
My experience is that only Roms based on actual stock HTC Hero Roms are stable, and that will never come for 2.2 or 2.3. They are based on Rom's for similar phones, and they always have something that is unstable or quirky.
I may be surprised, VillainRom is working on something. But I doubt it will be of the same quality as VR12 or VR13.
Pulser is working on a revamp of FroydVillain, with some new features not seen in froyo yet, although it will be a few weeks before it is released as he is busy with exams.

You can try 2.2 without sense. This roms are working very well and everything is working.
Why are 2.2 non-'Sense' Roms more stable and have full functionallity?

HTC does not release any further updates for the Hero or any device with similar hardware (last one officially supported is 2.1). Therefore, its quite tough, possibly impossible, to get all the hardware working when porting from devices with newer hardware.
CM-based ROMs (non-sense) are fully open source, so it is possible to get them fully functional even though HTC does not support the hero any more. Note, that I am not sure if the GB CM7 has reached 100% stability yet for the hero. I know that elelinux has done tremendous work in this area and I am sure that we are pretty close now.
I am sure that you'll succeed where all others have failed, and am eagerly waiting to try your Sense 2.2+ ROM with all the hardware working.
Until then, please post under Q&A or under the thread relevant for the ROM you are using/interested in....
Mods, please move this to Q&A.
Okay, thank you for your Info. So other way around. Which is the best, most stable full working non-'Sense' Rom for my Hero?
Should I concentrate my searching on 2.2, or are 2.3 Roms settled enough?
If you really want everything working and you don't want to flash a new rom every few days you should try some 2.2 roms. You'll find all roms on my homepage. Read through the description and decide what is the best for you

I've been very happy with Froyd 1.7.2, until I switched back to Sense again. Very fast, very stable.
As far as I know the 2.3 Roms still need some work.
Looks like that last update of [ROM]Elelinux-7.1.0-Hero-v2.3 Android 2.3.4 (2011-05-11) is now offering full (non-sense) functionality, speed and stability.

[Q] Official Gingerbread ROM?

Hi,
I just bought a vibrant from ebay and waiting anxiously for it to arrive.
Meanwhile I would like to check if the official GB rom is coming soon?
If not, I will like to seek your advice a good ROM that you will recommend newbies to flash.
Thanks!
CyanogenMod 7 is pretty amazing if you are looking for a good gingerbread ROM
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
MIUI or CM 7 but it still in Beta some bugs and no GPS
But there a lots of Great 2.2 Froyo Roms for vibrant
Hope that Helps
If you're a true noob who's not flashed a lot before I would suggest any of the 2.2.1 roms. They are all functional and a bit better than 2.2. The only thing you'll lose is wifi calling which is a huge battery drain anyway.
Right now the gingerbread roms don't have working GPS and require a little bit more experience with flashing.
My teammate and I have the Simply Galaxy/Honey series. 2.8 is very fast and stable and its 2.2.1. Team EDT also puts out quality work and you can always count on their roms to be fast and stable as well.

yah stick with 2.2 or 2.2.1 until u get experienced enough for cm7 or other gb roms! So id listen to explodingboy70
Thanks for all the advice! You are wonderful guys!
One more thing, will Samsung update the vibrant with an official GB rom?
I read that some said it could be done through Kies?

Simply honey 2.3.3 gb.By far the best gb for the vibrant.flawless, and easy install.

At this point we don't know when and if we're getting an official gingerbread from T-mobile. Samsung released gingerbread for the international version only - the GT-I9000. It is not completely identical to the Vibrant. It's up to the carriers when and if they release it and put their touches on it. Once Samsung releases some source code for Gingerbread, you'll see a huge jump in gingerbread development and improvements in those roms. Until then, stick to 2.2.1 like the others have said. I stick to team whiskey's roms, and every month or so I flash to a gingerbread rom for like a week to get a feel for it, then go back to 2.2.1 since I can't deal with the bugs in our GB roms for too long at once
Hi,
Finally my phone has arrived. Its already on Official 2.2 (I guessed) with Kernel Version 2.6.32.9 with build number FROYO.UVKA6.
If I want to remain like this for now (awaiting the official GB), what are the improvement that I can or should make to the phone with the current config?
eg. Voodoo , Other kernel, modem, rom?
I would give it a few days before you starting flashing etc etc. Get used to the phone with froyo, learns the ins and out of all the settings and stuff, will come in handy when you are ready to start playing.
If you haven't already, you should read the myriad of info in the vibrant bible, focusing on rooting, flashing and the things needed. I def would get a good handle on understanding programs like titanium, busy box and rom manager as all will eventually need to be used in one way shape or form.
To be honest, after my few days of learning the ropes, you should consider after learning the phones ins and outs, using ODIN to get back to 2.1 that normally comes with the vibrant (I am not 100% sure that all vibrants came with 2.1 stock, not sure if yours is the new model or outgoing model), rooting, installing titanium backup, busybox and rom manager and make a NANDROID backup of a nice clean OS so that should you run into issues flashing, you have an emergency back up to fall back on. I just did this over the past 2 days and it was a great learning experience.
I did my first rom flash today and was pretty cool, not as hard as I thought but really teaches you the ins and outs of all this cool stuff.
The ppl here were great in helping me and answering my questions, truly a great community.
My phone came with 2.1, then upgraded to 2.2, rooted and removed all the bloatware and never backed anything up. I then realized after help here, it was better to go back to 2.1, do all the right steps to root, install the right apps above, then make a nice clean emergency backup. It def will save your ass sooner or later.
With regards to changes, with my phone when it was at 2.2, I did alot to help improve battery life, I use a black wallpaper, I only turn on wifi when needed, I don't enable GPS at all. I set brightest via power widget to lowest unless in bright sun at which time, you can easily brighten it, you can change how quickly the screen goes dark, etc etc. There's alot of things you can do but since you just got the phone, you need to see how you're going to use it, in order to customize it.
Just my 2 from a beginner
Samsung won't say when or if a release of gb will actually come to US variants. I emailed them just the other day.
If you can live without GPS, then go with cyanogen mod
Sent from my badass Vibrant
I have been looking for a while and as usual with Samsung/T-Mobile the official word on GB is very deliberately vague.
I've been trying different ROMs and between my wife's Vibrant and mine, I have tried 5 ROMs so far.
Flashing some of the simpler Froyo ROMs is definitely easier and safer then jumping straight to CM7 or MIUI.
I would go with the earlier advice of getting familiar with your phone first and making sure you are comfortable with rebooting in recovery, wipe cache, etc.
One click root, back-up and re-install some apps so you are comfortable with all that.
Once you feel good, then try the simpler ROMs. TeamWhiskey - Nero is the first one I tried and it was easy to install and quite fast.
After that, went with Bionix.
Now I'm running SimpleHoney and on my wife's phone we are running DarkyRom 9.5.
All of these can be flashed through CWM which makes them simpler and safer.
Hope this helps! Enjoy your phone.
Sav
Thank you all for the replies. The advice and guidance are really much appreciated.
After one whole day fooling around, I finally managed to Root it and to install Simple Galaxy 2.8. I had some problems initially with the new 3e recovery from froyo causing unable to root problem. But I googled it and managed to workaround it.
I will play with the phone for a few more days before I decide if I want to go for the next level, GB
Go check out EDT's Asgard rom. Pretty slick.

[VIBRANT] What is the best Gingerbread ROM?

Hello guys, can you guys tell me by experience what is the best Gingerbread ROM out there like from 2.3.4 and up? I will like to be up to date. Currently Im testing in love of the Crisis Rom with the Sensation theme but is giving me soft reboots very often.
Im looking for a gingerbread rom that i can customize it with my custom themes..
Im into looks so the rom have to be a nice good looking interface
thanks
I don't see how anyone could over look CM7. CM7 plus Bali = Possibly the Best experience I've had with Android on my Vibrant. Plus it's got support for themes.
Simply stock great speed an battery an comes with good kernel that has all bells an whistles

If you want themes and customization go with MIUI REVAMPED. Not only is it an amazing rom but the devs are some if the best they answer any and all questions and update every Friday. Miui has hundreds of themes you can download straight from the app and apply within a min

Noobie question regarding CM 7
Hi,
I had a quick question regarding Cyanogen 7. I did try parsing through the threads but I'm hoping to get a few questions answered which didn't already find. I just rooted my phone and I'm planning on installing Cyanogen 7. However, before I do, I just wanted to clarify a few things.
1)GPS-I'm told this is fixed but still somewhat buggy. The current froyo stock ROM GPS really isn't all that reliable but it does work. If Cyanogenrom is equal to that, I'll be fine. However, if it's worse, that's a concern for for me. Can anyone give me an answer as to how it compares to the GPS on stock froyo.
2) I currently have most of my apps loaded on SD Card since I have the stock froyo. Will I have to reformat the card after the Cyanogen install or does it even matter?
3) Does the 3 button combo into recovery mode still work? If not, what are my other options?
4)Is Video playback still choppy in certain formats.
5) I've seen some youtube videos where people have installed the Voodoo kernel with Cyanogen and they've eliminated practically all lag issues. Does Cyanogenmod on the Vibrant have any frequent lag issues where the voodoo kernel is necessary?
Again, I apologize if my questions have been addressed before but if someone would be kind enough to help me, I would be grateful.

The only problem with this rom, is that every reboot you have to connect to data which is a technical inconvenience feature unlike the other roms. That rom is not as intuitive like the others. Once you get past that snafu, it does look nice and responds fair. Still has the cm7 / miui bugs and GPS is so so with other 2.3 roms.

GF has Vibrant, wants best stock like rom with best performance...

the girls phone is still stuck on 2.1 (ew)
im looking for something close to stock that is quick, optimized and up to date if possible.
looking for better battery life as well.
i rooted and installed cwm tonight, so its ready to go.
id prefer to keep it with touchwiz as she likes TW.
any ideas on what to look at as a good rom?
she likes landscape mode to reply to texts and stuff, ive seen how some can be buggy with that, so thats a feature i need to work correctly.
is gingerbread out for this phone?
thanks everyone.
We have CyanogenMod for this phone (2.3.7) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061889
Not an official Gingerbread release.
If you want a 2.2, stock-like but tweaked to run smooth phone, I'd go with Bionix; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925548
Do note, it's sort of outdated, because of a bunch of new stuff that's come out. But it's the closest to stock (In the way things run.) It's just been optimized and it's really responsive. It comes with a gingerbread theme, so that's nice.
And you can always update apps and whatnot, install a newer modem, kernel, etc.
I would suggest trigger 3.2 final it is what i am currently running and i havent had any problems with it
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
When it comes to TW roms I found Trigger 3.2 to be very good. Although Bionix is another good choice as well.
However, my favorite rom by far is MIUI. It's based on android 2.3.7 (gingerbread) and CM7. It's super user friendly and one of the best overall built roms I've ever used. Plus it is extremely customizable and smooth. However, it has no app drawer, that's it's flaw. Still you should have your girlfriend look at it and see if she would like it, even though it's not really TW.
Here's a guide to flash it & everything else you'll need to get started... "Guide- Easily Flash MIUI for Vibrant + Themes/Modems/Kernels/ and more!"
Project-V all the way. You won't find a better 2.2 rom
Seeing as its not your phone i wouldn't suggest any 2.3 roms. Even tho they are great and have great devs working on them they still have bugs due to a lack of source code.

yes i prefer not to have any bugs since she isnt really a dev when it comes to stuff and wouldnt know what to do if something started messing up lol.
thanks for the heads up everyone, ill be checking out every rom that was mentioned, perhaps a link included would help me faster access them.
ill show each one to her and see what she prefers.
I ended up with trigger, will let you all know how it goes for her.
she is very happy with how snappy it is, along with the visual voicemail lol
