[Q] Which Rom - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
sorry for the question, many people may hate me now, but reading about roms confuses me much more than it clears up my problems.
I'm using my Hero with Stock 2.1. Now I want to Upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3. Can you please recommend me a ROM which is stable like my stock 2.1 and has FULL functionallity (with Market, Cam and GPS) and Sense.
PS: Should I use 2.2 instead of 2.3, because it's more settled?
Thanks a lot!

There is no rom with 2.2 or 2.3 that has the things you want.

What is the problem stability or functionality?
2 years ago I tried Windows Mobile 6.5 custom and Android 1.5 on my HTC Tytn II - both are stupid. Android was slow as hell and Win Mobile 6.5 crashed once a day. I don't want that back!

Both. No 2.2 or 2.3 Rom with Sense is stable (or at least what I would call stable), and the Camera never works.
My experience is that only Roms based on actual stock HTC Hero Roms are stable, and that will never come for 2.2 or 2.3. They are based on Rom's for similar phones, and they always have something that is unstable or quirky.
I may be surprised, VillainRom is working on something. But I doubt it will be of the same quality as VR12 or VR13.

Pulser is working on a revamp of FroydVillain, with some new features not seen in froyo yet, although it will be a few weeks before it is released as he is busy with exams.

You can try 2.2 without sense. This roms are working very well and everything is working.

Why are 2.2 non-'Sense' Roms more stable and have full functionallity?

HTC does not release any further updates for the Hero or any device with similar hardware (last one officially supported is 2.1). Therefore, its quite tough, possibly impossible, to get all the hardware working when porting from devices with newer hardware.
CM-based ROMs (non-sense) are fully open source, so it is possible to get them fully functional even though HTC does not support the hero any more. Note, that I am not sure if the GB CM7 has reached 100% stability yet for the hero. I know that elelinux has done tremendous work in this area and I am sure that we are pretty close now.
I am sure that you'll succeed where all others have failed, and am eagerly waiting to try your Sense 2.2+ ROM with all the hardware working.
Until then, please post under Q&A or under the thread relevant for the ROM you are using/interested in....
Mods, please move this to Q&A.

Okay, thank you for your Info. So other way around. Which is the best, most stable full working non-'Sense' Rom for my Hero?
Should I concentrate my searching on 2.2, or are 2.3 Roms settled enough?

If you really want everything working and you don't want to flash a new rom every few days you should try some 2.2 roms. You'll find all roms on my homepage. Read through the description and decide what is the best for you

I've been very happy with Froyd 1.7.2, until I switched back to Sense again. Very fast, very stable.
As far as I know the 2.3 Roms still need some work.

Looks like that last update of [ROM]Elelinux-7.1.0-Hero-v2.3 Android 2.3.4 (2011-05-11) is now offering full (non-sense) functionality, speed and stability.

Im using Cronos 2.1.2 because its a fast ROM with those features I need and it got sense UI.
Make a poll This is probably in the wrong section! But then again maybe not CMH
cheers

Cronos Droid 2.1.2 because it is fast, has sense, responsive, Feeyo is always coming out with updates and it rocks.

I think he is leading in all versions whether sense or Froyo and now even Vanilla
there are a couple of roms i've tried and some i really like...
- modaco repack + oc kernel by behnaam = stable, smooth, good battery life
- kimera 2.1 = super smooth, stable + excellent battery
haven't tried any of the Villain stuff so can't really say anything about their roms...
currently i'm back on Cronos 2.1 with latest kernel; the battery really is excellent ( imho even better then before ) all works really well and smooth.

I think so but I want to try out his new AOSP Eclair but if I am going for Eclair I was thinking about CMH, so I can't decide on which. =\
Cronos 2.1.2 : )
Has Sense and still fast. Of course the ROM I use has to be stable. And it has the 2.1 features, otherwise I would use SenseHero 1.6 that is the best 1.5 ROM for Hero
Ohh... and Feeyo made a 730Mhz step for me; overclock is an important feature
FroydVillain: Because FroYo has so many features that Eclair is missing. And the CM-team (lox) is rather slow to update (I don't count the nightlies in, as they are missing a lot of work)
And now sense isn't on my phone, my battery will last a day longer
Kimera 2.1. I try a lot of ROMs but this one is the best one with Sense UI. Batery life is incredible, it's fastest and smoother 2.1 ROM ever made.
FC = 0!
This is top ROM!

A variety of them because they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Another pathetic question and one which will never have an unbiased answer (aside from mine ).
Fusion ROM 2.2 Froyo, I've tried many ROMS and this is by a long way the best one. In my opinion of course
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I 'basically' use Cronos 2.1.2 as it is the fastest, smoothest, most stable and least battery hungry 2.1 ROM with Sense. It runs superb with JIT and overclocking.
When I say 'basically' I mean that I have done some tweaks to it myself in order to get FriendStream working and the patched Rosie that allows screen-rearranging in pich-zoomed overview, and have done lots of trimming to it to get rid of stuff that I don't want/need/use to save some memory.

whats the best froyo rom ?

am currently running VaniliaEclair 4.0, want to flash a new rom, but dont want to change after that for a while
a question. Whats new in froyo ? its better to flash a eclair rom or froyo nowdays ? how stable is that ?
which rom do u prefer ? that are most stable, fast and great batterylife ?
i saw a benchmark thread here a while ago, listed that vaniliaEclair 5.0 was the fastest one and got the most power of all the roms. But that was a while ago... which rom is the leading one right now ?
I personally like Floyo. Everything that matters to me works nicely. Haven't found anything that doesn't work.
Allot of people would say Froyd Villain, Though its nice, it hasent had any update for the past few months.
Ok a small text about the differences of the 3 that are out there who got atleast a name.
1. Froyd: Made by the well known Villainteam. It was for its time the best one (2 months ago) Still runs nice, had a wicked fast GPS fix, 5 to 10 sec. Has allot of preinstalled apps. On the villainsite there are allot of themes you can use with this rom. And I mean ALLOT
2. Elelinux: More up to date then Froyd, way less themes avalable then Froyd, though more stable for my taste. Still some preinstalled apps.
3. Floyo, My fav. Clean, basic fast, and up to date . Made by the creator of the awesome FlyKernel, wich i now even use with my Slide Port rom. This one had 2 awesome themes you can choose to use, its fast basic and stable like a good oiled up car .
I would say Floyo is the best, but thats my oppinion .
Have never tried Fusion rom, cuss the notes dont really atract me to use, and i havent seen any themes for it . Some say its nice some don't just try them all and use the one you like
I've tried them all. FROYO_2.2_Special_Edition_v2 by elelinux is the first one I'm using for more then a week.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I liked VanillaEclair4, now i have Floyo.
VE4 little faster, but no updates anymore.
But i have not test any else ROM, so i canĀ“t say...
all are great, try them all and choose the one suitable you
Wish these topic were locked immediately with the comment "learn to read"
FYI - i could link you to at least 10 topics from the last month discussing the exact same thing and nothing has changed - its getting frustrating seeing the same thing over and over again
FusionROM is pretty decent, but I like Floyo the best. It is very stable.
HWMNBN has a pretty good 2.2 ROM out right now (Cronos Froyo). It is very quick and responsive and has a really nice optional Galaxy-based theme.
hmm i have hard time to choose rom =) i really dont like to try each out it will take forever for me xD
so basicially the best rom to go is Floyo ? if i want a 2.2 rom ? i want to run with flykernel 11, is it ok ? how stable will it go ?
so is it more powerfull than VaniliaEclair 5 ?
btw i have read that froyo is 2.5 times faster than eclair, is it true ? i mean htc hero will never get the official 2.2

It's a good 2.2 ROM to start with, IMO. Very stable.
Pretty sure Flykernel-11 in included in Floyo. The ROM dev is also the kernel dev (Erasmux).
If you don't like it, just flash another ROM! Hell, flash all of them this weekend if you'd like to.

[Q] Best sense based ROM - non Froyo

I've been running xtrSENSE 4.1 for a few months. My wifes Eris is still stock. Thinking about moving to xtrSENSE 4.6.5.
Is there anything better?
Is there a post that compares the ROM's?
I see xtrTenzoRCMix2.1 claims no 50% without signal bug.

IMHO, xtrSENSE is the stuff! I ran it and xtrROM for the longest times on my Eris. I would make the move to 4.6.5. He has a beta of xtrROM v5.0 out now, so maybe there'll be an xtrSENSE v5.0 soon, too.
I'm using Froyo ROMs now, FYI, although sometimes it's tempting to go back to xtr.
I might consider a Froyo based ROM but I'd like to keep my wife close to stock, only better and faster. When I first loaded xtrSENSE on mine I had her compare the 2 phones, the xtr phone was definitely faster and smoother. We're not eligible for an upgrade until December, the Eris's will have to do for another 10 months.
I've been running xtrSENSE 4.6.5 and don't know why you wouldn't upgrade. No signif issues (you can check the appropriate thread to see if there's anything that might bother you). 4.6.5 feels very stable and quicker than my previous OTA 2.1.
I also flashed CELBFroyo 4.1 for a bit but didn't like the non-SENSE UI. To be fair, I didn't give myself much time to get used to it, but it didn't seem appreciably faster and so I didn't see the point in giving up the SENSE bits that I like. The only thing that I preferred is that Froyo allows the newer gmail app (wife has a HTC Inc, so I've seen and used it up close). But until they develop a Froyo, sense-UI ROM that runs smoothly and stably on my little Eris, I'll probly stay with xtrSENSE.
And FWIW, I don't think there's a 5.0 version coming anytime soon--that is currently xtrROM specific.
Good luck,
xtrSENSE is going to probably be your best bet for a very good and stable STOCK sense rom. i read Tenzo's sense rom is very good also but i dont know if it is a stock sense rom, i have not tried it and it kind of looks like it has alot of custom tweaks and and interface changes
best Rom
I have flashed them all . The Very best rom out of all those here is xtrsence5.0.1. it has everything a stock 2.1 eris has plus all the other goodies . loaded 100 app in memory and not a bit of lag . has wifi hotspot camera and video wired tethering apps2sd cache2cache Overclock or not and well its fast and no Fc'ed apps . Very Nice Thanks ZACK !! currently have 481 apps installed on it and sd card . no lag and plenty of rom memory left

Any good 2.3.3 ROM's?

I was wondering, is there any good 2.3.3 ROM out there?
I have now the Elelinux 7 RC0 2.3.2,
and I have reboot problem(the device reboots once in a while-2 times a day.)
Thank You,
Daniel.
Why not go pure CM7 , never rebooted on me for good 2 weeks. Well I dont use it as much though (firm phone)

does it have any bugs?
its just the nightly so I am afraid.
I am hopefully selling the device next week and the costumer asked for a good 2.3.3 ROM(I am getting my self a Atrix in august!unless something better will be available of course.)
Hmm, well, there is no real "good" alternative yet. But why wants the customer gingerbread, I get this will be his first phone? Why not try VR13? 2.1 though only but fast.
Or you could wait maybe something else will pop up
Well I think 2.1 is to slow,
and he prefers 2.3.
maybe there is a good 2.2 alternative?
Just try the VR13 and write me how slow it is...
The same team has also a good 2.2 I think 1.7.x
Oh and how can someone prefer gingerbread on a phone that has not even 2.2 official. Also there is one phone out with 2.3 and thats the Nexus S, why would the guy buy a Hero if he already prefers 2.3... where did he try the 2.3 or why he wants the 2.3 ?
Dont sell him the hero, be responsible, those guys which go for numbers wont be satisfied . Sell it to someone who appreciates what the phone can offer.
Oh and yes the CM7 has bugs, to answer your previous questions its a nightly
If you want to sell him, then sell him the stock Hero.
He should try Roms by himself.
Cronos cronosproject.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=865
Stable, but non-OSS. Best of ROM
Second Cronos . Been running all the Gingerbred and am currently running 1.9.0 and it is very stable.
Best 2.3.3 rom to my knowledge
I flash my hero with Elelinux 7.0.0 rc2 1.4 and Its the best for me, it has a normal dpi not the moded one in tastyginger which i love. its also pretty snappy and light since its not a sense rom and it also based on cm7 nighly but it rlly stable i installed all my apps and then fixed permissions through rom manager then booted on ra recovery and fixed mismatched apks and it runs as smoothly as ever never force closes.
any question on it just ask hopes the best for ur hero
I have a 2.3 rom for g3 test only. From HTC.
If you want try. You can ...
I don't know how to install it.

[Q] flykernel: cm6.1 vs cm7.1

if i installed cm6.1 or cm7.1 with the same flykernel, would anyone have an opinion as to which phone would be generally more solid/speedy?
i feel a bit frustrated by my experience with cm7.1 and all the ginger based roms, but it seems that many are wowed by the performance.
just looking for some opinons. thanks
i find myself in a similar situation, and am currently on the Heroine++ rom for the sake of speed, but it is quite outdated, and i've been wanting a good 2.2 rom.
anyway, from my expericen, everybody is wowed by 7.1.0 only because of how slow it used to be, it really has come a long way since GB for hit our heros, but it is still a tiny bit too slow and laggy for my liking, and i had some issues with the in call UI not responding fast enough, so i couldn't always answer phone calls or the phone would still vibrate/ring after i'd answered it.
as far as kernel goes, older roms such as 2.1 are better on the older kernel, and newer roms such as GB will probaby be expecting a newer kernel, and therefore run better with it. but i'm not sure how stable the lastest venturas/venturax is compare to flykernel.
anyway, I am rambling.
in short, i think the older roms 2.1/2.2 are the only solid and speedy roms we have, GB is still a bit too slow.
(shame that the least developed roms currently are the 2.2, espcailly the 2.2 sense roms)
Flykernel and cm6.2 cm6.1 ftw, seriously.
I've been alternating between floyo and froydvillain for a while. Froyd is slightly more smoother imo.
And then I put bharat's FroYo port on. It has been VERY good so far. There is even a great ICS theme for it by habarug. Check it out with flykernel.

How's it working for you?

it's working alright, i do occationally get a force close though.
i'm not sure how the other froyo roms are set up, but this one comes with dithering off, which could explain why it feels snappier (slows down a bit if i turn on the dithering)
finding several apps to do the job of sense is pretty hard though =/ fast dialers on the hero are few and far between.
doubt i'll change it any time soon, unless i break something or chocolatefroyo gets it's carmera fixed.
good rom, not sure how different the froyo roms are though (i have no idea what happpened between cm 6.1.3 and 6.2.0)
anyway this is a little off topic now.

it was my understanding that there was only cm6.1 and cm7.1?
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version#HTC_Hero_.28GSM.29
for the record my current situation is running cm6.1 with flykernel 13, and using setcpu to overclock. i would say it it like a racecar compared to my experiences on 7.1
still open to thoughts if anyone wants to continue discussing this. ultimately i just want a rock solid phone that is as snappy as possible, and i get frustrated when trying out roms that have various features that work poorly. as a result i have mostly stuck to CM stable releases.

Hmmm, I see your link says otherwise. When I made that statement I was just reading the CM version from the ROM I currently was running. FroydVillain I think. I just re-checked the build.prop and think I got the CM version and the Android OS version mixed together. Whoops.
