[Q] Limit Messages Pop-up - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I keep getting this when I go to messaging. Is there any way to stop it? I don't want to limit my messages.

in the messaging settings there's an option to 'delete old messages ' where you can also limit how many you save on the phone... just turn it off or increase it... its on by default...

Delete old messages is unchecked in Messaging options. Since it's unchecked and I have a lot of messages, the "Limit messages" pops up every time I open messaging even though I click "No Limits" every time. The max limit is 5000 (if I want to set a limit) which is too low for my liking. It is as though Samsung really wants people to limit their messages. I think they should add a remember-my-choice check box for this pop-up.

5000 is too low?
um......nevermind

I am not the only one with this problem.

I, like thegreatcity, am a packrat, so I have no limits on my SMS. I try to get around the pop-up by setting a high limit so that I can never get close to it, but 5000 is the max I can set it to. So the plan to get around the pop-up did not work.

Lol, yeah i hate that. also i think when the reserves are met all messages are purged. i lost all my texts and there's no way to recover it.

Yea i want to keep the msg at the beginning..but that pop-up is so annoying and i finally give up...u win Samsung vibrant

Impossible to see SMS receieved time for previous days?

Hi all, I'm just wondering if anyone can help me figure out this problem.
I can't seem to find a timestamp on SMS messages for any days other than the current day. So if I received a message at 7.01am today I can see "07:01", however if I want to look at a message I received a few days ago, all I can get is "Oct 3", and bringing up the menu and clicking "View message details" still only shows "Oct 3".
Is there a way to show the entire timestamp? This seems like a terrible oversight if it's not possible to see what time an SMS was sent/receieved for any day other than the current day.
+1. Incredibly annoying "feature".
I am sure it is available in the sms logs, it is just not being shown.
I guess they did it to remove clutter, in the assumption that people wouldn't care about the timestamp of messages from yesterday, but that is just not true. Particularly when it has just gone past midnight!
It is the recency of the message that is important, not whether it arbitrarily happened today or yesterday.
How about ChompSMS and those other SMS apps, do they show them?
Yep!
Handcent SMS is the way forward. The stock messaging app just doesn't cut it...

SMS Limit Alert

I have no limits on my SMS messages (cause I'm a packrat), yet every time I open the messaging application it asks me if I'd like to set limits on conversations. I select "no limits" every time, but it still pops up every time.

Are you using the default messaging app? It sounds like caused by a 3rd party app setting or some kind of data restriction that you've put on it.
And you do have unlimited text right? Check your t-mo myaccount app to see if you've put the alert on.
I tried to ask the same thing. Nothing yet.

This is only an issue for extreme SMS packrats....
In the message app settings you can disable the auto deletion of messages that run past the set cap (defaults are 200 for sms, 20 for mms). So, disable deletion and increase the cap.
The SMS setting apparently has a hard cap at 5000. If that isn't enough ...well.....although that not being enough would normally entice me to make semi sarcastic remarks about hobbies, spare time, and the relative power of ones sphincter muscles, there are at least apps that can backup your sms threads for you.
SMSBackup for instance will let you backup SMS threads to your gmail acct. Since you can always access your gmail acct from your phone, this should be as good as packratting every friggin text directly on your phone. If you need to remind someone of what they said to you 7996 messages ago, sheerly for the "told you so factor" this can work. A bit creepy, but this can work!
And this is but one of many apps to back up SMS....
Consider the hard limit a feature, and backup your SMS to get them off your phone. That's my two cents...
Thank you. That's a great approach to this problem. It solves it for me.

[Q] SMS Settings

Yesterday, for the first time, I realized that my X10 has a SMS limit. I could not send or receive any SMS until I purged out a few messages by deleting several conversations. I saw somewhere on this forum an app/tool that provided for SMS/MMS settings that would automatically purge messages when the limit is reached. For the life of me, I cannot find that thread. I have no idea why Sony Ericsson didn't provide more messaging options like my wife's HTC Inspire. I have no reason to save old message, but I want to receive them without limitations.
OK - Maybe there is someway to purge text messages automatically when the limit is reach; any suggestions?

Special kind of message spam (class 0 msgs?). Any way to disable?

Hi
I've been receiving lately some kind of spam messages from by provider. It's not a normal SMS (I have a blocker in whitelist mode, only my contacts get through). It appears, covering the whole screen, not letting me do anything unless I click "ok" or "cancel" on the message. It works like a fullscreen pop-up.
People from all other carriers in my country get it too, on some local forums they say it's a "class 0" message.
http://www.gsm-technology.com/gsm.php/en,unlock,subpage_id,smsfaq.html
At the bottom says:
What are the classes of SM-MT (mobile terminated) messages?
Classes identify the message's importance as well as the location where it should be stored. There are 4 message classes.
Class 0: Indicates that this message is to be displayed on the MS immediately and a message delivery report is to be sent back to the SC. The message does not have to be saved in the MS or on the SIM card (unless selected to do so by the mobile user).

At first I though it had to do with the "cell broadcast" thing, but I have it disabled and the spam still comes through. I looked in ALL Android options and no sign of anything to disable this. Also call & sms blockers don't seem to affect this kind of messages.
Is there any way to disable this? Even if it means installing a custom kernel or something.
Also, are these really "class 0" messages or it's something else? Btw, I'm on ICS 4.0.4.
Thanks
P.S.: Complaining with the operators doesn't work in this crappy 4th world country. They do whatever they want and no one cares nor regulates the services (like the millions of spam sms you get every day, at least blocker apps work there). Now this appears to be a new trend in spam here...

text messages loading time

Whenever I try to compose a new text message and I try to enter the recipient from my address book, or when I actually send the message, or open a text message thread...there is a lag of about 30-40 seconds. I used to have no limit on the amount of texts per thread, but I have took it down to 200 and I still get this lag. Why is this?
I'm stock by the way on the latest software update.
Sorry if this thread is a duplicate, I tried searching.
BTW I use mighty text and I have most of my contacts facebook linked.
so I take it that it's normal for a text message thread, no matter how long it is(10 messages or 200) to take half a minute to load....ok.

I think this is the same problem I'm experiencing ... Happens with my contacts too. Check out a thread called log all of a sudden ... There were a few responses but no solution

Does the stock message app have the same problem?

I'm talking about the stock message app. Mighty Text is an app that allows you to texts from your phone using your laptop.
