Hi all,
Yesterday I tried upgrading my phone using the LG Mobile Tool but it completely killed my phone.
Has anyone else suffered from this? Does any know how to safely update the phone?
Thanks in advance,
K.

What do you want to upgrade. For new official firmware, you can simply run the LG software suite and install the latest firmware.
And if you want to install custom firmware, then you need the following:
1. Install Custom Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844483)
2. Install the custom rom (Megatron, Void, Prime, Amberhome, etc)
However before you proceed, do take out time to read about the processes. They are all simple and easy to use but one mistake and the phone might not start at all. Go through the various threads and will answer most of the starting questions.
Good luck

Yeah, but the LG suite bricked my last phone and I did all I was asked

It happens sometimes Guess all you can do is have it fully charged and not disturb the phone till the entire process is over. Official software sucks... and that's the plain truth.
Give it a try once more. You can always have it replaced if things go wrong
So I was just going to wait for the official OTA when I get the notification.
When I update to 2.3.3 will there be ROMs that I will be able to flash without having to update to 2.3.4.
To clarify,
When I updated to Android 2.3.3 I will be able to install any ROM that is made?
*I know this is a stupid question, I just have been confused on how the ROM process works on the Atrix. Im used to the Galaxy S method. Is it the same?
Thanks!
Please don't post any useless comments.

Yes, you can still install other ROMS. However, ROMs may have varying requirements. Usually, it will require an unlocked bootloader and CWM (Clockwork Mod) recovery which will allow you to install a new ROM.
That's the beauty of Android. As long as your device is supported, you can always look forward to the community creating great ROMs!

Would it be correct to say that not all ROM's will be compatible?
I would surmise that a ROM for 2.3.4 isn't necessarily 100% useable on a phone with 2.3.3 on it given that there could be subtle differences in builds/versions which could cause issues as with P-ROM's for 4.1.26 thru' 4.1.83. If I remember correctly the later GingerBlur P-ROM's could not be used with anything other than 4.1.83, but my memory could be blurred, (no pun intended)!
Not necessarily. The current operating system (2.3.3 in this case) has nothing to do with your eligibility to upgrade to a newer operating system. The main factors are whether your hardware is supported by the new build of Android. Another factor is performance. If you have a device that is antiquated, it's quite possible that the performance could be substantially degraded.
If you are at all unsure, I would recommend waiting for official updates from your service provider or manufacturer. You really shouldn't dig too deep into the ROM scene with your primary/only device your first time around. If you make a wrong turn, you could potentially permanently disable your device, and you usually will end up voiding your warranty.
Just got my atrix, installed greyblur. Does that mean my bootloader is unlocked?
Please correct me if im wrong, but im reading here if you install greyblur you unlock your bootloader and will not be able to update to 2.3 gingerbread or any future updates?
I read somewhere moto is releasing an update to unlock the bootloader anyways?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
No, your bootloader is still locked. And when new updates are released, you will be able to upgrade.

It's still gonna be a more of a "wait and see" on how the carriers are going to handle this...
Thanks for shinning some light on this for me. Ive rooted 3 devices, but the atrix was the more intense method.
So at this point its better to have a locked bootrom?
Is there a stock motoblur rom out there? I forgot to make a backup...

Hi, im about to buy an Atrix from amazon to use in my country (Venezuela), but iv been reading a few posts in the developers forums and i have a few questions before upgrading to gingerbread:
1.- Should i update from the Oficial Motorola Page 4.5.91 or should i flash a custom rom?
2.- Should i unlock my bootloader if i install the oficial rom?
3.- is there any rom better than the oficial rom out there?
4.- About the brick post i saw in the developers forums will i be exposed to the same chance if i update the original Motorola Rom?

1. I recommend using a custom ROM, only because its faster and you get better performance.
2. Yes. If you are will to do it, I have an easy way how.
3. Most if not all ROMS are better than than stock.
4. Only if you downgrade software from 2.3 to 2.2 you will brick your phone. Correct me if I am wrong though on this one other xda members. I am willing to help, just let me know.

Thank you very much Voelker, and which rom would u recommend me? the fastest and stable rom?. Also how about the update, should i first unlock the bootloader then update to the oficial version of ginger? or should i unlock the bootloader then update to a custom rom without touching the oficial version ever?
cm7 is the best unless you want webtop or fingerprint scanner

judging by your signature i assume u have CM7, i read a post in the official CM7 rom thread that there was something wrong with the dialer? like the graphics were kind of weird or zoomed, can u confirm this?
Also, do u have the latest build? can u tell me if there's a 1080p option there?
Also have any of you tried this kernel? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257574&page=299

amazon..co.uk buy
Hello everyone i'm new to this forum and i would like to know what i should do with my atrix.
I bought it off of amazon.co.uk (i live in england) and i would like to know how to root it. (i run Gingerbread, by the way)I know you must be thinking oh what an idiot follow the tutorials, but i keep seeing AT&T everywhere so im wondering what's up with that, and why are some of the roms only compatible with AT&T. Oh, and i searched allready too.
Have you tried this? ... http://www.psouza4.com/Bionic/
At the top, it says "This method works on Motorola phones running Android OS 2.3.4 or earlier." There is no mention of AT&T.
Hope this helps
thanks! yeah i looked at that, but i still dont get the whole AT&T thing for ROM. As im in england i cant get AT&T but thanks anyway for that root method!
The AT&T thing is because there is an Atrix International and an Atrix 4G from AT&T. Its mostly same specs, barely 3g bands.

Hi I was thinking of buyinga atrix I just have a few questions if u can help me.
1.how well is the fingerprint recognition?
2.is there a official ginber bread or a custom working one with all features of the phone working.
3.is the internel memory different from provider to provider (I know the bloatware by providers use up a bit of the memory).
4.also is any features missing by any providers (I can remember tmobile sometimes would remove front facing cameras on certain devices).
5.I heard there is screen issues how true is this? Also are there any other issues.
Sorry for so many questions .
Thanks using htc sensation at the moment.

I'm not sure but I got it too. It failed when trying to update though. Probably because I already rooted it?
I went ahead and let it update, it's a small 3.5 MB update so definitely not anything dramatic. Changed software version from E97010l to E97010o. No change in kernel or baseband version. Will check and see if root method for international Optimus G still works...
EDIT: Root still works. Haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, so feel free to update without the fear of losing root.
Here's a question: How are these updates pushed? My E970 is operating on Rogers and has actually NEVER been registered or run on AT&T. Are these updates pushed via the AT&T network to registered/operating phones, or via the Internet to specific IMEIs? In other words, will my phone ever get updates like this pushed?
How do we opt out of updates?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
Hooray Arkansas! Anyway, I used Titanium Backup (after rooting and unlocking bootloader) to delete the LG FOTA app. I still get the FOTA notification, and it tries to install it. However, FOTA's install using stock recovery, and if you unlock your bootloader your stock recovery is overwritten by Clockwork Mod recovery so the device just reboots
Anyone else getting better battery life? It's been 12 hours since I last charged my phone and I've barely cracked off a 3rd of the charge.
This may be a question for another thread, but my update failed (guessing because my phone is rooted). If I temporarily un-root my phone and apply the update, would it work? I can then go back and root it again if need be, but I really just wanted to remove some AT&T apps and that was the only reason I rooted it in the first place.
Now I wonder if I've created a headache for myself in regards to updates. I should have done more research before rooting!

Like Deathmonkey said, the update fails because of your custom recovery. You would have to flash your stock recovery in order to receive the OTA. I think you can see how yo do this in the rooting guide thread.

That's a good question. All I did was root and uninstall a few AT&T apps. That's it. I haven't installed any custom recovery, but maybe that was done somehow?
Lesson learned for me: don't go messing with crap until I do my research
Edit: tried a hard reset, no luck of course. Only thing that did for me was buy me two hours now of trying to reinstall my apps. This is depressing.

Sorry to bump this back up. Just got my phone last night and rooted it with this method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941699
This morning I saw that my phone has an update available. Is it safe to update if I defrost all my frozen bloatware (I did not delete any of them, just frozen)?
I've read that I should not do OTA if I unlocked the bootloader whichI have not done, only root. I also searched and found out that I should not do OTA if I have a custom recovery which I do not think I have from the rooting directions from the thread above. Just trying to be cautious.
This update does not fix our fast_dormancy problem. I tried it on my OG the first couple days. I am now rooted, unlocked and running nottach custom att Rom.

Thanks for the reply. Was your phone rooted before installing the update?
I'm new to rooting and the whole android scene. Just bought my s4 a month ago and rooted it this week. I've been trying to customize themes and icons and I know I need to deodex the files on my phone. I downloaded universal deodexer and dropped the files where I needed to but the program wouldn't run. My question is, is there any other way to deodex the files and how exactly do I locate them? Maybe I didn't locate the right ones.
First off, its pretty cool that you are actually trying to learn what you are doing. The initial learning curve is pretty big but you will get the hang of it piece by piece. I can't speak for everyone but I as still learning and started with the Droid years ago. Take a look at this post for some useful info. Credit to Obsidian for the definitions and links. Just take note that some of his definition do not apply to this phone since it was created for the Bionic, but most of the info is helpful and universal.

Now, to answer your question. Honestly I would flash a pre-deodexed rom and use it to modify things. A few are in the Samsung Development section that are basically TouchWiz minus the bloat. You may even find one there that suits you perfectly with no extra modding.

check out the youtube channel of DroidModd3rX... find his video titled "Verizon Galaxy S4 How To Unbrick, Unroot, Return to Factory Set"... even if you don't have a Verizon GS4 this will help you if you bricked your device. If you have a different Carrier than verizon then check out "wwjoshdew" channel on youtube........ check out his video titled "How To Unroot and Flash your Galaxy S4 to Stock Android 4.2.2"..... I'm sorry i didn't find you earlier.:crying: ........ this might help you to not pay where you "voided your warranty... please please please do this if you can get your phone back from the company. It will re-warranty your device.
It's ok, I found that video on you tube, and a couple others. I tried all their methods for I bricking, but to no avail. Now all it says is "firmware upgrade error. Please continue in Kies". But it won't let me do anything else.

Even ODIN?
Yea i tried Odin, 3.07 and I tried three different stock images and none of them worked. It got to a part during the process that said "Auth (fail)" and then it would close out the program. I just got my replacement yesterday but I'm kind of afraid to root it again lol.
Although I would really like to root it again, since half of the stuff I used it for had nothing to do with what caused the problem in the first place. I was just really excited to download and install a custom room that didn't lag as much as this nonsense from Samsung.

Your original problem sounded like you were trying to flash the mdk firmware on a me7 firmware which would cause auth fail in odin.
But I couldnt find any info above. If you did the the me7 root method you wont have write permissions because boot loader is locked. which would brick your phone when you flash a rom.
Is the me7 root method the one that roots through the micro SD? Is there a way to do so and unlock the bootloader currently or has one not been released yet for the newest Verizon update?

if you did it through terminal then yes. you are on me7 which is why odin gave you problems. currently there is no way to unlock the bootloader. only the firmware previous to me7 can unlock it. So you might be stuck for a while.
Well that's kind of a drag. Installing custom ROMs is the only thing that an unlocked bootloader does? Or is there another reason to root the phone now instead of waiting for a root that unlocks it? Sorry for all of the questions...

root still lets you uninstall or freeze that bloatware on your phone. Only thing I used iy for anyways. have about an extra 400mb of ram freed.
Well that is good to know in case I decide to go through with rooting again. Is there a way to uninstall that update? Or am I stuck waiting for a new method to root the phone that allows flashing? I might root again just to have some of the apps like gmd gesture and greenify.

I would just get titanium backup for now. and remove some bloatware a safelist can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314265 would not experiment with deleting random things it could cause brick problems nothing much else. if you are not comfortablr with that just try and wait for bootloader to be unlocked which has no eta
I may just do that. If I were to root again on me7 since there's no unlock method, if one were to be released would I be screwed or is there normally a way to do that at a different time than the root?
