how do i install an app that i downloaded on PC? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys just got my x10 and was wondering how do i install an app that i downloaded on PC?
also, when in the dialpad, is it possible to type the name of the contact that i want to call instead of dialing the number or going to contacts?
Thanks

Copy the file to your sd card via usb then install using a file explorer. If the app is on market, connect your phone to internet (wifi if possible) and download directly to phone.
In dialpad just numbers, go to phone book and type the name, is just one touch away

Or easier is to download "awesome drop" to get the apk's on your phone and install from there directly. No cables, no searching in file explorer.

thanks!

Use appinstaller find it on the market.

I like to use dropbox for things like that. download the client on your nook color then whatever you upload to their website from you computer you can easily sync on your nook color.

Have no problem putting stuff on my SD card. I need to know where (folder) the xxxxxx.apk file is put and how do you run it to install it?

You can put it anywhere. Download Astro from the market to install it.

Using ES File Explorer and went to my PC to transfer an app to my SD card. When I clicked it to copy it ran it and asked whether I wanted to install. So I installed without moving the .apk file.
Question, should the .apk reside where the app will work from or is it not needed?
I personally use awesome drop. Love it on my wireless network.

After you install it you don't need the .apk anymore. Android takes care of it by itself.
The apk is like the original exe file of an installation program at windows system for PC.
After U install a program, U dont care to move the installation file.

[Q] how to install any file on newly installed 2.3?

i installed the 2.3 firmware but it is having no built in file manager, i am not having internet services in my mobile right now, how do i install any file in it??
Search in the marketplace for Astro File Manager or any file manager. I use Root Explorer for my needs but any of those file managers should work.
Edit: Oops, didn't read that part about no internet service. You might be out of luck if that's the case. Connect to wifi?
If you have internet access at all like a computer. Just download the apk and you can use flashtool to insall it.

..JusT Try 2 Help..
How come your GB 2.3 installed w/o File Explorer or Application Installer..
But..calm down..many Way to Rome DuDe..as long as you have..
1. SD Card = Flashdisk..use it to transfer apk file from PC (Public Internet Service PC) to your SDCard..then Install It..
2. You have Friends with Android Phone don't you..? Transfer the apk file via "Bluetooth" then Install It..
3. Yessss..Find a Public HoTSpoT..then Go OnLine..
4. Go to Sony Ericsson Service Center to Help you Install the File Manager apk..
You said you don't have "Internet Connection"..but why you can post the thread..
OK..the Internet Connection from a PC..and you have No "Data Cable" or a Card Reader to Connect to your PC..
Use flashtool to root it, then install any apps what you need from it, i recommend you to install file manager first.

Not able to install apk files

A family member has the Galaxy S3 and it is completely stock, non rooted and so on, and i know the phone does not need to be rooted to install apk files.
The problem is that i have copied over the apk file that i want onto his S3 but his phone, no matter what file explorer you use, just will not see the apk files at all, the fines worked fine on my Sensation and DHD and One X, but i just can not get the phone to see the apk files,
any idea's on what is causing the phone to not see the files?
cheers

you sure they are named as .apk file and not .zip? you should be able to see the filename without the .apk in myfiles for example (myapp.apk will appear as myapp), you will also have to check allow install from unknown sources in the security menu in settings..
yes its named .apk
i have not changed anything about the apk files from installing them on my other phones as i said, the DHD and the Sensation are both rooted but my One X is not rooted and that was able to see the apk file and install it, i seriously have no idea on why the S3 is not seeing them at all and that is after searching online for info
also i have enabled the use on non-market applications to be installed, but that is no use if the phone cant see the .apk files to install it in the first place
How you transferred the file to GS3? Is the file visible when connected to PC?

getting my files to show hidden files did not work.
what it is that i'm trying to install a game, there is a data folder that has to be transferred onto the phone as well, it goes into the Android\obb folder on the sdcard, i created the folder and copied over the files into the folder, the phone.... using my files, astro or es explorer still will not see that folder i created for the files or the apk file itself that has to be installed for these files to be used.
also i tried it on a friends stock, non-rooted Galaxy S2 and it could see the files and it installed first time with no problems so right now i have no idea on what is going on with the Galaxy S3
Sorted, i know what it was, me being a tit....
when you open astro, it starts off in the SDcard folder... the samsung see's the built in memory as the SDcard.. to see the actual SDcard (the removable one lol) i have to select extSCcard..
Am i a tit or what lol
Cheers for the help anyway guys
much appreciated

Unable to open files copied from phone over network share

Has anyone tried to copy files (for example photos) from their phone thru the home network to their computer as network drive but is unable to open the file? Did I do anything wrong?
Here is what I did:
1.open es file explorer
2.go to "LAN" and scan for the network computer.
3.Click in to make sure I can access the drive on the computer from the phone
4.go back to "Local" and navigate to the photo file stored under DCIM
5.long press the desired file and select copy on the popup menu
6.another window will popup and then navigate to the network drive location to copy to.
I did this and any file I copy to my computer this will will show me the message shown in the attatchment.
Anyone know if I'm missing anything?

I haven't tried this but there is a nice app called Airdroid on the market you might want to try. I will try this later tonight and see if I can reproduce.
I just tried airdroid. Its nice but I don't think it transfers as quick as it can if the phone acted as a network drive. Plus with air droid I'd have to go to the computer to operate the web ui to transfer files.
If the phone acted as a network drive I can just copy the file to the computer straight from my phone.

You may also do three registry tweaks to allow Windows/File Explorer to view your phone's memory and transfer files in and out that way to.
