[Q] NEED HELP with a unique G1 recovery problem. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok. im pretty good at computer stuff but not that good. first of all i am running a G1/Dream with the following:
Model number: HTC Dream
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.33.4-cyanogenmod shade at toxygene #1
Mod version: CyanogenMod-5.0.7-DS
Build number: EPE54B
my problem is that i lost my recovery which was RA 1. 6. 2.
now, if i try to reach the recovery by pressing power+home, the G1 logo just stays on. no recovery. the bootloader is from cyanogen mod...i think.
it says:
DREAM PVT 32B ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (DREA10000)
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Apr 20 2009, 15:30:43
i have a copy of DREAIMG. NBH AND DREAIMG-RC29. zip on the root of the sdcard.
i have tried a bunch of stuff to try to fix this and this thread is one of my last resorts.
recoveryflasher doesnt seem to work and terminal hasnt given me any luck (unless im doing it wrong)
sad to say, i dont understand fastboot and/or adb shells with sdk so anything else or a very very detailed instruction post about using fastboot/adb if necessary would be helpful.
**OR** if you know of a way to factory reset to stock ROM 1. 0 or 1. 5 or something else without using recovery. would also be helpful because i can always root again. SO PLEASE. HELP. ME!!!
btw, if you can help me install RA 1.7.0 that would also be helpful because when i tried is when i lost the recovery (oops)

[Q] Official ICS OTA - Help to Flash please

Morning All,
So after hearing that we got our official ICS i thought i would replace my Virtuous rom with the original (i know i know bad move!)
So I restored my phone to a backup prior to installing the Virtuous ROM which leaves my phone at this point:

I have 4EXT recovery installed version 1.0.0.5 RC5
I have found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732984
But I'm not sure if this will work for me?
When I tried to update via official OTA when it installed it went into 4EXT to install? and when it rebooted it locked up at the HTC white screen without getting to the "quietly brilliant part" so i have since restored my backup again via 4EXT
Can someone please advise
First you need to download the modified Software from the link in your post.
Then you need to download the firmware software from this thread. This firmware is needed by ICS.
Once you've downloaded this two files you need to put the PG86img.zip in the root folder on your sd card.
Then boot into BOOTLOADER mode. VOLUME down & Power Key. Your Phone is flashing the firmware. After this you need to erase the PG86img.zip from your SD-card.
Once you've done this step, put your SD-Card back into your phone, go into recovery mode and flash the modified software from your link.
Voila, you did it!
and this will work even though im not s-off?

base on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732984, you'll need to s-off to flash the OTA
You can take this method to get s-off. Look under
revolutionary and evo 3d in google
and follow the instructions there. It worked like charm on my device. It's not so difficult as it looks like.
The revolutionary method requires me to down grade which I don't fancy the risk of bricking I tried a few of the new custom roms but they just seem to freeze at boot with logcat saying somet about drm.drmmanager
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
I've downgraded my bootloader too. It's a bit tricky but I think it's the only way for you.
I'am not allowed to post any links yet. You can try it with this method, it works for me:
First download this file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28791009/PG86IMG.zip and if you have a Vodafone branded this file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13166134/PG8..._1. 49.0007.zip
Second backup the internal memory on your PC, since the above file format it.
Third Copy the file to your SD card
5.3 Disabled Fast Boot menu -> Power -> hooks for quick start to make out
4th Turn off the phone
5th Boot into HBOOT by first press and hold volume down and then press the power button hold (both together) until you are in HBOOT menu.
6th Wait briefly, it is now looking for several flashable files and then read the above and see.
7th Confirmed that it wanted to install the file (volume up). Then wait a bit, the process will take a few moments.
8th Restart the device, then reboot and fastboot selected.
9th Delete the file from the SD card
10th Boot back into HBOOT as in step 4 and 5 described and checked the version number
If all goes well, you now have version 1.49.0007 and you can going on with the revolutionary method.
Sorry for my bad english!
guys, just to confirm before i do something very stupid!!
1. i download the file mentioned in the post above PG86IMG.zip
2. i then put this in the root of my SD card
3. i then reboot my evo 3d into the bootloader - it will then install the new file?
4. reboot delete the file and say hello to my downgraded bootloader
Your phone will notice the PG86IMG.zip file on the root of your sd card. Follow the instructions on screen...
I think you need to use the volume up or down to start the update
And yes, it worked for me.
Notice:
My EVO is a GSM device. I don't know if it's the same for CDMA phones

It's very important to make a backup from system and you data on sd card!

[Q] Questions About Updating to 2.13 on Unlocked HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hi everyone,
Hoping to get a little feedback. I am a bit confused about how to correctly update to the latest firmware (2.13). I looked at the thread located here.
The download I think is the correct one is labeled "2.13.651.1 Firmware (No Kernel, Hboot, or Recovery.)"
Question: Since I am running TWRP recovery, does this get flashed in the same way as described by the thread:
"How to flash (install):
Download your zip of choice, and rename it to PJ75IMG.zip, and save it to the root of your external sd card. Reboot into bootloader mode, and accept the update. Let it run through, and wait for the successful message. "
PS here are my specs:
Phone is unlocked (s-off) and has root (Used RegawMOD) to achieve this.
TWRP Recovery installed.
Made backup of the stock rom using TWRP.

Unlocked and S-OFF are not the same. If you are HTCDev unlocked you will have to relock your bootloader and take the OTA. If you are LazyPanda S-OFF you can place the file on your ext sdcard and boot into bootloader and it will ask you if you want to flash the update.
I have only used the full firmware package from Capt_Throwback not sure about the one you posted. you can find it here

Ok just to reiterate the phone is S-OFF & rooted. RegawMOD used the HTC Dev method and flashed TWRP as its recovery program.
I want to keep the phone using the Sprint stock rom for now but want to update the firmware. I can't do OTA because TWRP has replaced the stock recovery from my understanding.

Did you use Lazy Panda to achieve S-OFF?
I am not S-OFF
Bigdaddy, Thanks for the reply again.
I just read on the original forum for RegawMOD that I am not "S-off" because I have not used dirtyracun or lazypanda. For some reason I thought that tool not only gave me root but also "S-off" since it showed tampered with when in the recovery screen.
Thought I had a good handle on this whole rom issue by now considering this is my 4th HTC phone but I guess I am not 100% there.
What should I do at this point? I am mass confused.
Could you share some light on what is the correct way to root and s-off this phone? what a F'in pain in the tail.

Trying to flash MeanRom onto my eve. Help!

Hello,
I just HTCdev unlocked and rooted my phone AGAIN because the first time i tried to flash a ROM (CM 10 Nightly) I bricked my phone. First i re-locked, Ran the RUU, and unrooted completely to stock. Now I Re-unlocked, Re-rooted, I'm S-ON, and I Put TWRP and SuperSU on as well as Flash Image GUI and GooManager. Now I really want to get MeanRom on my phone but the two methods i've tried had no success.
1st attempt:
I put the MeanRomv65 zip on my phone from my macbook, I factory reset, wiped cache, wiped dalvic cache, and then went to install. Found the zip file and swipe to flash.. everything seems fine until i get an error and fail message at the end. It also says there is no MD5 file when i do this.
2nd attempt:
I restored my phone to my backup. I already had the MeanRomv65 zip on my phone from my previous attempt to flash it. So then i go into flash image GUI and go through finding the zip and everything. Then i get an error right above the Flash Image button saying "zip file must contain only one of the following: recovery.img, zimage, or a type of boot.img!" So I go on my computer, unzip the file and looked inside and all I see the boot.img and some folders but no recover or zimage so i dont know what it is talking about.
I then tried to download the older MeanRomv34 zip to see if maybe I had to have the older version on first but I got the same error.
I really dont want to go through the processes of unrooting and relocking my phone again so i want to do this right. Any help from here would be greatly appreciated! (and i do not have a windows 7 32bit computer, only a mac and a Windows 7 64bit so i don't believe that going S-off is an option for me without going out and buying a new computer)
I dont know how much of this matters but here is some info on my phone:
HTC EVO 4G LTE on hBoot 1.19 Software v. 2.13.651.1 71ORD HTCdev unlocked, Rooted, and I have TWRP and SuperSU
Kernel Version:

SMP PREEMPT
Other info:
Baseband v: 1.12.11.0809
Android Version: 4.04
HTC Sense: 4.1

I know this post is really long and I probably put waaayyy more information then I actually needed to but I just want to be safe. It seems like everything I try for putting any Roms on my phone goes wrong with an error or failed message and I really want to do this right now.

You've got to make sure TWRP is updated, you can do that with goo manager. There were lots of users that had an issue flashing Mean because they're TWRP was outdated. 2.3.0.1 should be the latest
Fyi and future use, download the rom directly to ur phone. I own a mac book and when I transfer files from it to my LTE I get double files, one of which is the the actual file and the other is some sort of no media file (4.00k in size). Good luck

I have 2.3.1.0 TWRP and okay i'll do that. You just download it like you would on a computer? Also I still need to know.. New version of MeanRom first, or go straight for new version?
Question: If i go with the process below to get MeanRom on my phone, do i need to go with the old version (MeanRomv34) or the new one (MeanRomv65).
"Use root explorer and extract meanrom move the boot.IMG to an easy location, browse to that location and try flashing thru flash image GUI."
also since I did the HTCdev unlock and TWRP on followed by rooting with SuperSU. Do i need to get rid of the SuperSU root first or something before trying to flash MeanRom? Or does that not matter? If i do need to get rid of it.. How?

Just flash the latest version of MeanROM just like any other rom boot to recovery wipe cache/del cache/factory reset/system then find the MR file and flash away
I would recommend getting s-off. It makes things sooooo much easier
I used dirty racun on my windows 7 ultimate 64 bit system and it worked flawlessly.

Impossible to reboot to recovery + RUU error 158

Hello All,
I've spent hours on this forum and other, reading related subject, and I've tried so much things (probably some of them worsening my situation) so I'm asking for help now. I'm kind of a newbie so please be comprehensive.
So I've an HTC Desire X and thanks to Hasoon2000's Desire X All-In-One Kit v1.1 I've unlocked bootloader and flashed clockworkmod 6.1.5.
My phone worked perfectly until there was an official update for my android version, and it was impossible to install it.
So i needed to go back to stock basically. And that's where i screwed.
Obviously i didn't make a backup or nandroid before starting to play around.
I think i might have install kernel and recovery from earlier version that the one i had and this caused the problem? any way now the status is:
I cannot start my phone normally. I can only start it in fastboot mode. When i want to reboot it in recovery the HTC screen with "starting recovery" appears for 1 sec and then i've got a black screen and the only way out is reboot it to fastboot mode again.
when connected to my computer i can load boot.img or recovery.img via fastboot in cmd; but it doesn't change the situation.
I think the problem may come from the fact that when i cmd "adb devices", he cannot find any device. Even though i've installed the HTC drivers!

So then in order to fix that i've tried to RUU using the only RUU availables (with relocked bootloader): RUU_PROTO_U_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_1.18.401.1_Radio_10.21.40.06U_1.10.40.23_release_295191_signed

but it doesn't work: a part from the fact that there's a blank after "From: Image version: ", when i try to update to image version 1.14.401.1, during the install it stop with ERROR 158 : IMAGE ERROR , telling me that i've to find a ROM that is adapted for me.
Well. Somebody have any idea how i can get my phone functionning again?

i'm not sure if you're able to install a ics-ruu when you're on hboot for jellybean (1.25).
get twrp-recovery for jellybean, install it via fast boot and install a jellybean rom via recovery, like the stock one

btw. using adb in bootloader doenst work, so its no surprise it doesnt find any device.
Worked out perfectly! My phone is working again!
Thank you so much realCyphox !

Now I'll try to see if it's possible to install the official updates.

[Q&A] [ROM][4.4.2] - AT&T 4.18.502.7 Stock Rooted

Q&A for [ROM][4.4.2] - AT&T 4.18.502.7 Stock Rooted
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM][4.4.2] - AT&T 4.18.502.7 Stock Rooted. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Soft-bricked HTC One M7, restored with stock rooted ROM, still having problems
[tl;dr]: Please skip to the bottom for a list of my questions. Specs follow that. Otherwise, please read the long version.
I tried flashing Android Revolution HD 6.1 Google Edition (that's the download link to the zip) and it soft-bricked my phone, sending me into a boot loop into recovery.
I wiped my phone and flashed the ROM found at [ROM][4.4.2] - AT&T 4.18.502.7 Stock Rooted, which brought my phone back to working order, though with changes from the ROM I'd had originally, from before unlocking my bootloader and rooting my phone.
Before unlocking the bootloader, I made a number of adb backups. After initially rooting my phone, before flashing any ROMS, I restored my backup with adb then made a backup of that in TWRP. Downloaded Titanium Backup and made a backup with that, too. I copied both TWRP and Titanium backups to my PC.
After the Android Revolution flash went bad, I had to use the AT&T 4.18.502.7 Stock Rooted ROM. I was able to again restore most of my data and settings with adb, but with the failed flash and soft-bricking, I lost the local backups on my phone. Since restoring the OS and being able to see my phone with my computer, I cannot copy my TWRP backup to my phone's /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS directory.
I was able to move my TitaniumBackup folder to /sdcard but, when I tried restoring the system data and apps + data, I wound up losing my IMEI, my Phone Number ... presumably because the radio firmware for my original OS and the ROM I used to recover were not the same.
I wiped again, flashed the stock ROM for my firmware again and restored my adb backup again. Adb backup did not save my contacts nor my texts but I made an HTC Sync backup, which restored them.
Perhaps none of this would seem like a crisis to a seasoned developer, but I am a total neophyte. I wasn't expecting this all to be easy, but I wasn't expecting it to be as difficult (or as roundabout, more accurately) as it has been. So, I've got some questions:
I thought making a TWRP backup = NANDroid backup, but output is not a zip file (it contains four files: boot.emmc.win, boot.emmc.win.md5, data.ext4.win, data.ext4.win.md5) and I cannot copy it to my phone: How, then, do I restore my own stock ROM?
Is there a way to save OS, apps, Contacts and texts (and anything else someone might reasonably want to preserve) in one place, easily restorable?
I cannot restore system data from Titanium because the stock ROM I used for recovery has differences that cause conflicts, particularly with the radio firmware: Do I have to just let my system settings go, and recustomize the phone manually?
Why did trying to flash a ROM that is for Android 4.4.2 -- which is the version I have -- brick my phone?
I'd love for this to turn into a conversation from which I can learn. I have more questions, but this post is plenty long enough, I think.

Would love to know how each of those properties affect what ROMs I can use. I'd love to know how not to brick myself again. Thanks in advance.

It's really very simple ..you need s-off to flash and use GPe roms
your hboot is 1.56 and the only way to get s-of is with Sunshine

Thanks for this. That's really good to know. Surely, I didn't look closely enough at the explanation of Android Revolution to see that it required I be S-OFF.
However, if I'm not ready yet to go S-OFF (and I think I'd like to wait until I can successfully flash a ROM), I assume there are ROMs for which I don't need to be S-OFF. I'm going to look for them but, if you know of a collection offhand, could you share the link with me?
Thanks again.

OK. I'm confused. Why would Android Revolution HD-One 84 work for me when Android Revolution HD-1 6.1 was what bricked my phone, and you mentioned required S-OFF?

ARHD 84 is a Kitkat sense based rom no s-off required
ARHD 6.1 is a GPe S-off required
Any GPe rom will require s-off

Thanks for being patient with me and explaining this.
Is there a canonical guide to what ROMs work in which state (S-ON / S-OFF)? I ask because the statement on the Android Revolution forum was ambiguous to me: "HTC One unlocked with htcdev.com (S-ON) or S-OFF".
