Hi franzfume,
can you please explain "broken USB connector" a little more?
Maybe I can help out.

If you can charge the phone, the USB port can't be broken... Are you sure it's not your PC?
Also, OTA depends on your carrier. It may take longer than a computer-based upgrade.

Hi iead1,
I'm not sure, but I think you misread: "I charge the battery in a wall charger".
If I get it right, he takes the battery out of the phone and charges it separately.
I think more of a USB connector, which is ripped of the PCB.
Maybe it can be resoldered.
but that would be a very uncommon failure for this phone, as the connector is very good soldered:

Sounds like a broken USB-Connector-Housing.
Strange... I didn't think this could happen.

Err, yeah, I did misread it, thanks!
I'll add though... microUSB was designed to withstand much more abuse than regular USB, due to it's use in phones and always being inserted/removed.
yeah if you look at the plug plus the housing theres 2 little spikes that clip into holes in the housing one of them stopped catching which nacked it. Was always carful with it was only month old think it was just bad luck tbh

Sent the phone back to SE last Monday evening. Recieved back a brand new X10i this AM. No paperwork was included to say that it was a new phone but the IMEI and SN were different to the 1 I sent in!
Be warned when plugging in for "flash update" the USB port can fail; be very very gentle; much easier to remove the little rubber port cover first (which can be replaced)
I bought the phone from eBay for less than 1/2 price of RRP and was worried warranty would be no good... a needless worry!
I woke up this morning to find my x10 plugged in but the battery was almost dead. I tried a couple chargers but it wouldn't charge. I connected it to my pc via usb but it wouldn't recognize my phone.
I looked online and it appears to have happened to quite a few people so I called Rogers and they are sending a replacement. I wish I could offer a solution but I thought I'd share my experience.

I think you should be able to get a repair. I looked at the warranty and if it was bought in the EU then your rights are protected within the EU. I was searching for info for someone who had bought in Dubai but was now in Far East. If you go to SE's website and seach for X10 warranty you should be able to download a PDF. This is on Page 14....
*Geographical scope of the warranty
If you have purchased your Product in a country member of the
European Economic Area (EEA) or in Switzerland or the Republic of
Turkey, and such Product was intended for sale in the EEA or in
Switzerland or in Turkey, you can have your Product serviced in
any EEA country or in Switzerland or in Turkey, under the warranty
conditions prevailing in the country in which you require servicing,
provided that an identical Product is sold in such country by an
authorised Sony Ericsson distributor.

Anyone else noticed that it's really easy to pull off the USB wire from the phone? I hate it because I charge the phone while I'm playing with it on my bed and it always come loose. I've never noticed this problem before until I had this phone. Changing the wire doesn't really help either.

Actually, hate to say it but I have a hard time pulling mine out. Maybe because even though I've had the phone for 3 weeks, I only have to charge it once every 2-3 days. I get about 48 hours minimum out of a charge and never plug it into my computer for anything. All transfers are done over Wifi.
Gradually over time it's expected that the port becomes loose (no pun intended ladies) but this early in ownership? I don't know that's kinda odd. I have to really yank that cable out, can't do it with one hand either. Need two, one to hold the device in place and the other to pull the USB cable. Otherwise I just pull the phone with the wire lol

If you hold the Samsung connector up against say an htc connector you can see that the metal plug is shorter. There is actually a picture somewhere that shows trimming back some of the white plastic to get more length. You only have to trim the top of the shell to get 2-3 more mm.

There's been some discussion about MHL adapters recently so I thought I'd share the one I got since it works well and is affordable. It's a VicTsing MHL 2.0 Micro usb to HDMI adapter I got off of amazon for $10 shipped.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ENETITI/ref=cm_cr_mts_prod_img
http://youtu.be/GSetj1ehv5Q
It's the 11-pin version so it supports the Note 3. I had some screen cropping issues at first (not shown in video), but alittle tweaking of the TV settings fixed this. Also you may notice that it disconnected while I initially connected it, but that was because I wasn't pushing it in very much (user error). I've played real racing (tilt steering) without disconnection problems.

The Apple charger is only 1200mA when used with an Apple device. It's probably outputting 450 or 500mA (USB standard) because it doesn't recognize the charge capabilities of the connected device. Unfortunately, they only support proprietary signaling for Apple device charging capabilities. You should have known considering how notorious Apple is for such things! Granted, a standardized way for microUSB chargers didn't exist when they first needed it, but I doubt they ever added support in any of the revisions. FWIW, the HP TouchPad uses proprietary signaling as well.
I wonder if the MHL adapter is using 100-150mA or if the charger outputs even less than 450mA for non-Apple devices. Apple was notorious for doing just that on Macs back when they wanted to push their IEEE 1394 Firewire iSight camera and it continues today where Macs can charge an iPad but not a 10" Android tablet.

Sorry to hear that guys, guess it's a really inconsistent product. I've had a good experience using it, but I wouldn't have recommended it knowing it had could have such issues.Customer service for me was quick to replace my first one which didn't charge but worked without a power adapter. Also on the product description it says that it works without a power adapter for some phones "Supports use without connecting the charger with some smartphones." so maybe you could use that as an argument if you didn't decide to just return it.
I tried the Apple charger and I get 1200mA too. I guess they did add standard signaling for device charge capabilities. Once I even measured 1800mA (immediately went back down to 1200mA)!
They are sending me a new one. Hope this one works like the one in the video :fingers-crossed:

100% confirmed that the Official Samsung MHL cable works without an extra power cord.
There's a lot of these circling around eBay. Made to look like Samsung. Even has the Samsung logo and Samsung box. But just like previous mhl it still requires power. Complained to the seller and maybe a few others dud as well so they've taken it off their site. Maybe due to copyright thing as well.
In my review it, it's not a bad unit but some TVs it will only out put 720p but less stutter. At home on my Samsung it outputs at 1080p but stutters.
I wonder how well the OEM version handles 1080p. And I do like that OEM ones do not require power.

2-3 days ago i could charge through USB cable plugged into a laptop and a AC adapter to charge on the wall.
But the next day i couldn't charge, i tried plugging the USB in the laptop and the wall charger and it still didn't charge.
My tablet still has 11% of battery left, My tablet works fine, everything works fine smooth and brilliant, it's just the fact that i cannot charge through my USB cable anymore. idk why =(.
I could turn it on and everything is functional, except battery charging.
I also tried hard reset and factory reseting, that didn't work either.

Well, i have just tried everything you listed, doesn't work, i guess its either the battery is dead or the port has something wrong or wires wrong.

Solution: Buy an universal battery charger from an elecetonics store, and everything would be ok.

If you does not know what are you do, call an Onda Service. Helped you?

Well, you just put the battery in, then connect it to a wall socket, and wait until an LED flashes.
BUT this solution won`t work for you because, it seems that your battery it`s integrated in tablet`s hardware.
No sense in wasting any money. The usb port on the tab is probably bad,or the voltage regulation part. I will assume the port is the same for both USB and Wall Charge? If so, there's a hardware malfunction on the tablet.
If you can not return it for an exchange or the warranty is expired, then you could possibly open the tablet and look for any type of loose connection near the USB port.
Does the PC still recognize it when you plug in the USB?

The PC doesn't recognize it at all, and the port is used for both the USB and Wall Charge.
So you assume that it is hardware malfunction, so would it be the ports fault or the battery with the wires connected to the motherboard's fault?

Could be either. The port itself is bad, or a connection to the port. Without opening it up, you wouldn't know. Either way, if its under warranty, I would return it,

Oh i opened it up before and checked, but i didn't unscrew the motherboard since the ports were upside down, so i couldn't check whether the port or the battery was wrong.
Finally got my hands on the Magtron's Magnector X cable and adapter for the Z3. As promised, I would do a side-to-side comparison on these. Here we go!
The two boxes. It is interesting how the boxes say "for the Z1 and Ultra", but I am guessing they all have the same magnetic connections (?).

It is nice to see MADE IN KOREA instead of MADE IN CHINA, although I hope it is true.
Taking out of its plastic box, it's all plain and simple, no text labels anywhere.
Cable and adapter. Each came in a white pouch.
Cable.
Adapter.
Cable + adapter (NSFW!!! ).
Adapter mounted on the side of the Z3. The curve on the mounting area of the adapter makes it flow with the phone. So nice!
Close look of the adapter to show the gap. Hopefully this will help those decide on which case to buy.
Cable mounted on the side of the Z3. A close look to show the gap.
Photos showing the strong magnets. They are strong, even at 45deg tilt.
All I have to say is that these are very strong magnets! Fitment is very snug and easy on both. I would highly recommend this product to those looking for magnetic chargers to save you from opening or closing those USB flaps. The big deciding factors will depend on preferences such as portability and cases you buy for the phone.
Feel free to check out my Xperia Z3 battery life and recharge experiments thread as well for battery recharge and benchmarks.
Hope you find this helpful!
Can you please install Current Widget (free on Play Store) and report back
what charging current both items give compared to the regular charger
from shop set?
Thanks in advance!

I'm getting variable readings for mA in Current Widget. It appears to be constant around 1089mA. This is charging with the Magnector cable and Sony charger from the outlet.
Is there a good app I can use to log timestamps, battery percentage, and current (mA)?
hanime,
Current Widget can log to file timestamp, mA, %, V and centigrades.
Can you compare values from Magnetor with regular Sony charger?
thanks!
Sure! I'll try the logs on my new Z3 (it's currently getting exchanged due to a defective camera unit), or I can try it on my GF's Z3 if she ever gets it fully drained.
I'll update this thread when it's done.
this is a great post. was considering the magtron but guess this post have convinced me to get one :good:
I got one and have to admit it is a must have.

Current Widget app is not doing it for me. Can't get it to log when I checked the log box. The notification icon shows "no data" when I charged from 1-100%. Half of the time, I don't even know if the Current Widget is working because when I open the app, it goes into the configuration screen.

Hi, do you have the Xperia Z3 Dual (D6633)? I have that one and my camera unit was also defective. I ordered from GSM Nation and live in the US. Where did you buy yours and who is exchanging it? I wonder if I am out of luck due to me being in the US and this being an international phone.
Thanks in advance.
@wutsup, this thread is about Magnector products - stop off-topic posts. Thanks.
Anyone use these for more than a week or two? I have heard reports of them failing, just want to make sure.

To answer your question, mine is a D6603. I bought it from an eBay seller techno.trading.house. Very good service and friendly, as they advertised hassle-free returns/exchanges. I just hope the new one coming my way is not another defective piece. It seems to be a hit and miss with this phone, any model (rolls eyes at Sony QA). I would ask GSM Nation about their exchange policy.
Can you confirm if you connect this magnetic charger to the phone first and then connect it to the plug socket afterwards, does the phone detect the charger?
Thanks, Hanime. I will wait and see how it works out for you.

I can confirm that putting the magnetic charger to the phone first, then connect it to the plug socket afterwards does not charge. It does not detect it. I can see this might be a bad thing when the power goes out and comes back in the middle of the night or similar case scenario. Interesting indeed.

Thanks for confirming this for me. I thought it was just me, that's weird it only works this way as I thought I had a faulty cable.

I don't know as I don't use a case. However, if the case supports the holes for the magnetic port, and its thickness can give clearance, it should work just fine. Please refer to the mounted photos to see whether it clears.

Yeah, this is a very weird behavior indeed. I wonder why it does that.

I don't know about the connector but I do know that the Magnector X cable works with this case. I have that cable and the Cruzerlite Bugdroid case.
