Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if there's a way I can make my phone work with different frequencies than the ones that come with the phone (1700 and 2100MHz). Here in South America 3G is used on the 850MHz frequency, is there any chance I can change that? Installing a new ROM, changing some settings, or sthg?!!! Im kind of new with all this ROM things, so please try to help me with this Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi All,
I've heard from a co-worker that the HTC Hero's modem baseband can be flashed in order to support a different 3G band (i.e. 850MHz), so I can use it, on AT&T, Rogers, etc.
Is this posibble at all? If so, can somebody point me on the right direction?
Thanks in advance,
Gabrio

No it isn't - in order to use a Hero on AT&T or Rogers, you need to purchase a Telus Hero. Whilst for the most part it is the same as the "regular" GSM Hero, it has hardware support for the 850Mhz 3G band.

Thanks for the quick response!, I see. So regardless of the firmware that you try to flash it with, the hardware doesn't' support it huh? I thought (hoped, actually) that it did :S.
I'm still fiddling and have changed my baseband to AUS2 which I believe is 850mhz only which in theory should pick up a signal because telecom xt network is 850/2100mhz only. The problem now I think is that the 850mhz radio frequency is not working?? When I change it to AUS band (pretty sure it's 850/2100mhz) my phone gets a signal and also all the other bands which have 2100mhz so my thoughts are that my phone is only picking up the 2100mhz signal which is only in a few areas in nz -.- Now I have read that you can access your phones service menu via dialler codes but I cannot find any for the huawei ideos x1 which is a shame because all of the codes havn't worked. Or I read somewhere that flashing a new modem to my device with the 850mhz band in it will also solve the problem but I have no idea which one will be suitable for me.......basically I need phone signal for work etc and have noo idea what to to do to resolve the problem and that's why I came to this forum in hope that one of you experts can help haha. If anyone can suggest something once again thaks

Hi there everyone,
I have a unbranded Aussie GT-I9100 that i bought in cambodia and use it alot here. But when i go back to the USA for a visit i plan on doing some travelling around and want to know if flashing a USA modem pack would allow me better to access more of the GSM networks in the US? I know several networks run on either 1700mhz or 1900mhz for 3G/HSPA+ and this phones modem is not setup to allow access to those frequencies for 3G/HSPA+ . Or is that just how the hardware is setup?
Thanks for the help
Shawn
The phone won't be able to use frequencies the hardware doesn't support full stop. No flashing of modems will change that. Choose a carrier over there that you know uses the frequencies the phone hardware uses (or you might be left with using 2G or even have no connectivity). The I9100 was never sold by carriers in the US (there are no specific US stock roms & bundled modems that you know will work), so you might end up having to experiment if you get poor connectivity with the modem you're currently running. Might want to download as many modems as you can get your hands on before you go & take them with you.
But best advice is as above, choose a carrier that uses the same freqs as the phone to avoid teeth gnashing.

Hi Everyone,
I am looking for a good quality high end smartphone running Android which supports Dual SIMs for the Telstra Network in Australia. More specifically I am living in Hobart Tasmania, and working in Port Arthur Tasmania (rural). I believe that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Dual SIM may suit my needs, and support my carriers frequencies. Here is a link to the frequencies used by my carrier, Telstra.
Any help and or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo
