No sir, you should be just fine, try to reflash back to stock using odin, pull the battery remove the sim and sd card, and then go into downloader mode, and try again.
stock FW here, good luck.

Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
still cant get it to work... i dunno what im doing wrong. but it seems like all the files needed arent in the link from above.
Keep trying
Try enter "downloading mode" with the sd card in the phone(after many attempts it worked for me), there is a thread in this forum about how to enter "downloading mode" and flash the phone.
still cant get out of the android system recovery mode.. ive tried holding buttons down while turning the phone on and off and theres nothng happening. still cant use the power button as the ok.
i got the same problem i cant use any button as ok
is there a way to get the ok button, or what i can do to get over this problem
thanks in advance
Let me know if these steps help:
Here is a couple of methods to get into download mode. Once you get to
download mode, follow the directions in second part of my post...
First Method
1) Pull the battery, sim card, and sd card.
2) Reinsert battery but do not press any buttons.
3) Plug into usb that is connected to your computer. If something shows up
on the screen (charging logo) then you should be golden.
4) Hold the vol up, vol down, and power until the screen comes on,
immediately release the power button but not the other two. Hopefully it
will boot into download mode and than you can use Odin to get back to stock.
Second Method
1) Another method that seems to work for some people is to pull the battery,
sim, sd card.
2) Reinsert battery and hold both volume buttons but do not press power
button.
3) Then plug in usb. The phone should boot into download.
Third Method
1) You will need the samsung ADB drivers installed for your phone and ADB.
Samsung Drivers for 32 bit Windows: http://files.androidspin.com/downlo...=SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
Samsung Drivers for 64 bit Windows: http://files.androidspin.com/downlo...ung/vibrant/&file=usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
2) Remove sim card and sd-card. Remove the battery.
3) Hold buttons vol up, vol down, and power.
4) While holding down those 3 buttons put the battery back in and keep
holding all 3 buttons until the vibrant disappears and reappears. Once it
reappears, release all 3 buttons.
5) Now connect your phone to your pc via USB cable.
6) Open a cmd prompt and navigate to the folder with ADB and type "ADB
REBOOT DOWNLOAD" caps are not necessary.
7) Your phone will reboot into the download
How to get back to stock once in Download Mode:
Download the files in the linked thread and follow the directions there or
the ones in my post below.
Odin and Files Needed Available Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
1) Open Odin and verify that one of the Com ports shows a device connected.
If it doesn't try using a different usb port.
2) Load the .pit and pda files. It should be pretty obvious how to do that
once you are in Odin.
3) Make sure that the option to partition is unchecked. The other two
options should be checked.
4) Hit start and wait.
5) Your phone will restart when Odin is done and you will be good to go.
Seems to be the same issue
I just tried upgrading to 2.2 using Odin and this seems to be the same problem. It seems that every solution starts with, "Enter Into Download Mode..." but no method seems to work.
I wouldn't say the phone is "bricked" as when it is plugged into a computer it will install the drivers and Odin sees it, but I can't get it into anything but recovery mode.
The buttons seem to be strangely mapped, the up and down buttons are reversed and the power button doesn't seem to be working as the "Ok" button. The menu toggles the recovery screen and the <!> graphic with the Android. Anyone figured out how to solve this? In the meantime I will continue attempting to get into download moad.
Hi, I have the same exact problem. Stuck in system recovery. Volume buttons reversed. Power button does nothing. Cannot get into download mode. Please Help
what happened?
I just got the same issue :S
the volumes buttons are wrong and the power (OK) button is not working on system recovery mode...

Folks, any update regarding this problem. I got very same problem, and could not find a solution yet.
hints?
I have the same problem also. I got into the problem by following a thread down grading to 2e version from 3e version. I've tried lots of things including going back to stock--or what I think is stock. I now have the 3e version again but when I bring up recovery mode the up/down buttons are backwards and the ok (power) key doesn't work.
Suggestions? HELP?
We can get into root console and manually tweak files if that will help.
UPDATE----SOLUTION
I got this working by reloading the stock t-mobile kernel from http androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/. This link provided at that site is single file so just use the pda and pit boxes in odin. In desperation I selected re-partion and Phone bootloader update.
I was unable to get into the recovery console with hitting any keys but adb did the trick. Volumn-up and power gets into the flash download
Finally Fixed it
I finally was able to get the phone into download mode by holding down the volume up key, the search key and the power key.
It seems the key mapping was just messed up.
After it entered download mode I followed the guide on androidspin /2010/08/09/ how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant (add the .com to androidspin, forum won't let me post links yet)
Hi How did you hold the search key. It does not light up till the vibrant shows on screen. Can you please explain how to managed to hold vol up, power and search together? thanks
Sivaavis its only a 3-button combo, not 4. Why u holding down search? Its up,down volume and power and then when the vibrant logo shows u let go of power.

If you are in recovery mode just go into adb and type in:
adb reboot download
You should be in download mode

well i am sending this one back to tmobile its rooted and its on vibrant r3 rom is that ok? because they will send me new one. i guess they will have to re-flash it to odin so it should;t matter because once they do that i wont be rooted.
why are yall posting adb instructions when we cannot acess adb since are phones are stuck on the vibrant screen?? i was able to use hardware key method until i just tried to reflash with odin now my phone just sits at the galaxy s screen and i cannot get it into download mode to fix now. swo does anyone have any more methods?
Hello,
Alright, so I tried flashing to the newest firmware and I ticked re-partition in odin (yea stupid me)... Now, I get the following
Code:
-- Movi_check Start..!!
checksum configuration need_checksum[0]
Not need checksum configuration
-- Movi_check already executed!!...
--movi_checking done!...
update media, please wait...
E:Cant mout /dev/block/st110
(invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:cant mount DBDATA:
copy default media content failed.
Now, I used adb to get into download mode, but now when I used adb reboot download, it sends me to recovery and i get this message...Is there anything i can do to at least get back to stock? Please Help D':
EDIT:
Would it be possible to somehow push the clockwork recovery to the sdcard using adb and use that to restore a nandroid backup?
i am having the exact same problem right now. i tried a adb install of a update.zip for clock work and is saying that i dont have a androidmanifest.xml. also tried straight push and said i dont have permession to put on sd card
Hey man try removing SD card and similar card. Take out battery and have it unplugged from USB.
Put in battery hold volume down and power while plugging in USB.
Worked for me. Flashed jfd then flashed ji6 now running smooth

Can you tell me what you did step by step? I'm doing it but I keep ending up on the screen from my original post...Also, did you get this problem because you checked repartition in odin or did you do something else?
I did have the problem from checking repartition.
1 pulled out everything from the phone (SD card, sim card, battery)
2 put in battery
3 hold down volume - and power button and plug in USB cable
hopefully this will put you in download mode.
4 used odin to flash stock jfd
5 rebooted phone
6 put in download mode through adb
7 used Odin to flash ji6
Last question, when you were doing it, before entering download mode, did you see a battery or vibrant screen?
EDIT:
Ugh...no matter how much I try I can't get into download...maybe my vibrant is hardware locked...
i got both but just played around with button combos till it went to download mode when i plugged in the cable
OK guys. So the trick about getting into Download Mode is to make sure phone is off, hold Power and both Volume buttons, when Vibrant screen shows up, release ONLY the Power button and you'll jump right in there!

No. Recovery mode happens when you hold all 3 buttons until Vibrant screen shows up.
Download mode requires you to just let go off the Power button and continue holding the Volume buttons at Vibrant screen.
Very similar, but works like a charm for me and others every time. I learned it here in XDA!
Okay so I went from onyx 4.2 to a nandroid backup of bionix findal. Then since the backup was a 2.1 rom I flashed a 21 kernel then I rebooted and its stays at the vibrant screen and keeps going into recovery when I hit reinstal packages it takes me back to stock recovery not Cwm. So what do I do from here
Hit refresh packages again. Sometimes it takes more than one time.
Same thing happened to me, I ended up using odin....again. Thank god for odin

If you cannot get into CWM recovery, than most likely you will have to Odin. If you know how to use adb, then adb the CWM update.zip onto /sdcard and select re-install packages from the normal recovery. If you don't know how to use adb, then you can either learn or follow the directions in this post on how to use Odin. You might want to learn Odin anyways as it is extremely useful if you softbrick without access to recovery.
Here is a couple of methods to get into download mode. Once you get to download mode, follow the directions at the end of my post...
First Method
1) Pull the battery, sim card, and sd card.

Glad I could help you out. Just make sure you keep all the files on your computer in case you have to do it again. I had never had to use Odin until recently. Then I had to use it three times in one day.
I tried to upgrade to the 2.2 operating system using a guide on android forums.
I originally had a rooted 2.1 OS, I don't know if I unplugged it before the process was complete or if I had to return to a stock OS prior to upgrading; however now I cannot get to download mode to use Odin again.
I have read through some threads and I have a different case, I am not stuck at the Vibrant screen, I get past it. Upon boot up I get the Galaxy S screen followed by an Android System Recovery <3e> screen with some other texts. If I hold the power button, I will get the "Power Reset or Unknown Upload Mode" screen. If I continue to hold the power button, the phone will cycle between those three modes, the Galaxy S screen, the Android System Recovery screen, and the unknown upload mode screen.
I have and am still trying different key combinations to get back to recovery mode in attempts to reload the stock OS and then continue with the 2.2 upgrade.
I have made a video that I will post when I get home later today; any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

I am no expert by any means but perhaps the following might be of help:
try selecting reinstall packages when the stock recovery screen comes up, this may allow you to access CWM Recovery.
also try-- set up odin on Pc and plug in usb cable to Pc ONLY. Then with power off and phone not connected to Pc hold down both volume up and volume down and plug the usb in FROM computer this should take you to Download mode.
Try to reboot your phone with adb.
To get into download mode do this:
remove battery
replace battery
Hold both volume keys.
plug in USB
at no time touch the power button.
Takes me into download mode every time!

Holy crap... I'm so glad I found these instructions. Worked like a charm. Key instruction was to hold down both volume keys and THEN plugging it in. BEAUTIFUL!
Can someone assist?
I was going from bionix V, and decided to Odin back to stock. I used pit 512 and a kernel here - the last one on the list (stock+froyo uvkb1) on this post - forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-870480.html
I flashed the kernel here as the pda in Odin. I thought this was the right way to go, but instead, I'm now stuck in an infinite recovery loop where I can't reboot and can't flash any thing else. I just boot into recovery over and over again. I've mounted the drive, deleted all the files, added back in backups, and tried to flash a ton of stuff, but I keep getting this error:
E: can't mount /dev/block/stl11 ( file exists)
E:cant mount CACHE: recovery/command
cant mount cache:recovery/log
cant open cache:recovery/log
re-partition, auto reboot, and f.reset time were all checked in odin, but nothing else.
Oh, and I can't just use odin to restore - I cannot get into download mode using either the three button method or the adb method.
Can anyone help? I seriously don't want to have to go buy another phone - mainly because I can't really afford that sort of thing.
EDIT: Appreciate people helping here - just to clarify, I don't need help with 3 button method or adb into download - those methods aren't working.
There are 4 ways to get into download that I know of and 3 are on the phone itself.
1. Power down. Insert USB. Hold down vol up / vol down, and hold power until phone starts to boot. Let go of power and hold down volume until download starts.
2. Using a command prompt and ADB, tell the device to reboot into download.
3. Reboot into download via the CWM recovery menu.
The 4th way is the homemade jig, which I don't have the tools to create at the moment. However, I may try it shortly here.
I've tried all 3 of the ways above, and I'm stuck in a boot loop. I'm also unable to disable voodoo.
Does anybody know anyway to do a full on clean reset of the phone with Odin, nandroid, etc? The issue is, all of these methods on the boards would work if I could get into download, BUT, the phone won't mount the proper files for whatever reason (error code in original post) and so I cannot get into download, the home screen, nothing but the cwm recovery menu.
You should get in to download mode and odin stock jdf, those files you flashed are froyo builds. I don't think it work's that way, you must flash jdf first.
I know I need to do that - problem is, I can't get into download mode. That's step one - I'm stuck in the cwm recovery menu, over and over, and can't get anywhere else. Any ideas?
Try this
how to put in download mode- sure fire way
1- phone off
2- open Odin
3- hold vol button and plug in USB.
I just posted a thread. My phone just keep going to DL when I switch battery.
Thanks, but no - that method isn't working.
The issue is, all of these methods on the boards would work, BUT, the phone won't mount the proper files for whatever reason (error code in original post).
I really appreciate you trying to help, it's the right answer for a lot of issues, but just not this one.
power off phone
pull out battery

turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
What if you can get in dl mode but odin won't read your phone? I have the correct drivers intalled. It was working fine til I upgrated to cm7. Now my phone is stuck at vibrant screen and can't get in recovery. The phone boots in dl mode but its not recognized by my pc. Any ideas if I'm screwed?
